Would replacing just the ignition cylinder fix the problem of the dash lights and car not starting up? Or would I have to replace the whole ignition switch module? (Car does crank but will never start if dash lights don’t turn on unless I turn key off and on until dash lights turn on then car will start)

What if the replacement lock cylinder doesn't slide all the way into its place? I did all prior steps, but the replacement cylinder won't slide all the way in. It did the first time but the key wouldn't turn all the way to the off position so I couldn't turn the car off. So I had taken it out now the cylinder won't go back in.
while driving all lights went out car tripped out, lights came back on car resumed as normal... the vehicle jerked a bit too and i assumed battery / alternator since all the lights were flickering but i think i just got damn lucky and the vehicle got signal back while moving got home checked my alternator and battery cables to start and then i thought ignition switch as well because i can already remove the key from it and the vehicle will stay running ( 2000 chevy malibu 3.1 ) tried to start it in the driveway and all sorts of crazy shit was going on gauges would lag and fly all over, vehicle would stall immediately. other times it would start up just fine. ty for the relearn instructions too replaced ignition switch and you have the best video! so good and to the point
My car will still run with the keys out n plus when I'm driving my car will just cut off for no reason. The car battery will die fast n when I boost it off it will take a while for it to started back I have a black key for it n other key I don't know what chould be the problem

Hi, I got 2000 Malibu, turn key, dash lights up, no crank. After 75 tries, it finally started. I'm thinking starter, or ignition switch. It doesn't have a starter relay, does it?
Hello David, it does have a starter relay. It could be the ignition switch, the relay or the starter itself. You can check the signal wire at the starter, which is the small wire, it should have 12 volts when you hit the key to cranking position.
tried for 2 hours to get the key to turn.. tried EVERYTHING, tapping, vibration etc etc etc etc... only thing I can think of next is to try and drill it out! anybody else have this issue and key just wouldnt turn.. LIKE ITS THE WRONG KEY!!!

I am a locksmith and I will tell you that I wouldn't have replaced the cylinder . I would have repaired it that way the customer would have one key to start the car and still unlock it and also would have been cheaper for the customer
I had a very similar issue with my old Toyota Tacoma, and the local locksmith saved me ! It was going to be alot more money because the dealer had to overnight the switch from California, then it would still need to be installed, then it would mean an additional key for the p/u. The locksmith just rebuilt the lock and the purposely left out the last set of tumblers so that it wouldn't happen again. Much less expensive plus I was still able to use the original key. Thank you LOCKSMITHS !!! Now PLEASE tell me how to get my key to turn in this Chevy. I can't do anything until that happens. Thanks !!!!
@@WPGinterceptor460Interceptor so what I did to get the key out of the ignition was I noticed that on the shifter there is a button on top that allows you to switch gears. Well upon looking further into it and I believed I removed some piece from the center console and I used a quick drying silicone wd40 on the shifter cable and it allowed the key to be freed. The cable is getting sticky causing the key to be stuck like it thinks it’s still in gear.
I have a few suggestions for you. First, wear a hat with a big American flag on it. Then, prepare a script for yourself, so that you don't have to fumble for words in your narration. Preparation is everything. Any tools you use should have the USA logo on them. You have a charming way about you, so viewers will automatically like you. Your voice is great, and your personality comes through strong. Nice video!

In your video you have the stereo removed. Is that required to get to the hole to depress the pin or did you do it for camera

It should work try it again. If not you will have to connect a scanner and scan the anti theft system
Weirdly I didn't have to do any relearn sequence at all. Car just fired right up after installation of new lock cylinder.🤷🏾♂️

Use some WD-40
