You are truly a gem, God bless you for sharing, I had already called a tow for my husband, came home, studied RUclips awhile, saw your post, I went back across town and with your tip, I started his 2003 Chevy Malibu, Canceled the tow. Happy Dance, and that ain’t easy for a 49 model 🙏🏻 🌹🙏🏻
Wish me luck going to the dealership to get the recall worked on, mechanics will tell you it’s EVERYTHING and look you in the eye and tell you it’s not the ignition. You WILL know if your problem is the SAME as this. This video is a LIFE SAVER.
Same thing happened to me on my 2000 base model Malibu. Thanks for sharing about the "turning the key(but NOT to the Start position) eight times to reset! I called AAA towing thinking my car was conked out and when the truck arrived the driver said to try again AND it started right up! I have also had issues with the "Theft" light coming on when driving(no shutdown happening) and sometimes when starting up "almost All of" the instrument panel dash lights staying on for several minutes while driving. I did receive the recall post card and they just glued a little piece of plastic into the original key keyhole.
@@danielreiss3443 I waited 4 hours thinking they were fixing the recall on the ignition to find out they only added rubber around the key hole as well, so "the keys weight won't hang unevenly from ignition causing ignition problems" Chevy said! What BS! I have '03 Malibu that just turned over 100k miles! Has had two headgaskets blow, cooling system issues even after replacing the cooling system and hoses twice, etc with good care care! Its worked only half its life! 😮💨 Now interior deteriating fast! We need to make CHEVY great again! Lol! Looking at Toyota now! Hehehe

Just had a problem with my 02 malibu. left parking lights on and ran down the battery. Got a jump from a co worker but car would not start. Was getting fuel and spark. Apparently when the electrical system is drained it activates the anti theft. Did some searching on you tube and found out to leave ignition in on position for about 20 minutes or so the system will reset. Turn key to off then try starting. Worked for me!
In my 03 Bu I am tired of replacing batteries, coils, gasket seals, etc. The recall on ignition swith, all Chevy dealership did was fill in my key holder so its not elongated. They said that would take care of the issue! Never made sense to me. Only 99k original miles on it in 2024 and I'm done!
@@seanreviewscars Yeah, fuel pump good, injector pulse good, spark good, took the valve cover off and timing chain is loose. I'm going to check my valve timing next. Not sure if this car is worth the trouble of replacing the timing chain.
I just bought a 2007 malibu 3.5 v6 and it won't start this morning, starts then shuts off, does the dampness have anything to do with it? And, yesterday evening, the low gas light went on for a moment even though its a full tank, 10 mins later it died at a stop sign. Started right back up and went home no problem. Today it won't stay started. I hear the pump noise intermittent. 37,000 miles on car
There’s another problem these cars have that I faced today looking at this video is that the gearshifters locketloves to bind the ignition and prevent the car from going into OFF properly. There’s an insert at the back bottom portion of your lock cylinder that is to prevent your car from slipping out of gear when off is also the reason why my car or maybe other cars won’t properly turn off or get their keys stuck in the ignition. After fumbling with it for 20 minutes deciding to leave it unplugged and the car works fine now and even goes in and out of gear properly
So a bad ignition switch can cause this ok so how do you kno if it's not the fuel pump or anything like that because I got a new battery but for my car to start I have to press down on the gas for it to start
I got 2002 Chevy Malibu I did turn the key to on position on and off for 10 times 😩 the gas gauge went up and down every time and I have 1/2 tank of gas Then after that I thought it got reset the anti theft alarm got reset NO ! When I try to start only cranks and doesn’t start sounds like the ie no gas going to the inyectores I may need to replace the torque converter clutch circuit ( could be stuck on ?)there is electricity going to my fuse breakers under the hood 😖☹️
I have a 2003 malibu and it stop cranking. I changed fuel pump, battery and it still wouldn't start.then about 2 days later i try it and it ran fine that day then when i got back home that day it won't start anymore just spins over....can. Somebody help me please
Your PASSLOCK II system doesn't recognize the key .. Do you have a second key / fob ? If you do try using that key the sensor might recognize it .. Have a key made at Wal-Mart or any key place make sure the key is not worn down and use that key .. Go thru the relearning procedure in the manual .. If you want you can try cleaning out the lock cylinder with some electrical contact cleaner spray or graphite .. Debris might have built up and is keeping the sensor from recognizing your key ..
there has been 77 deaths related to faulty ignition switch, they sent a post card saying they will replace a ring. tell them you want new ignition switch
Ive read many reports onine where people saying they replaced the ignition switch up to FOUR times and still the problem happenned. I dont have the car myself, this is just what ive read
What if it's not the problem? In 2004 Malibu Maxx, it is just ridiculous. If the gas pump works its should start on, but it doesn't mine it does work but don't turn on what should I do🤔?
I have an 2000 chevy Malibu and the car died I tried jumping it also my my fuel gauge was working now all of a sudden its not now I'm hearing there's no power going to my fuel pump its kinda weird cause it was just working... Could something have shorten out? I do not have the original key? What could this be
I appreciate the tips, but realize what this shows. This is truly a safety issue. People should not have to wait or cycle anything to start their cars? What if the car needs to be moved immediately? Weather dangers, or imminent threat of physical harm from a predator? Say you have your kids in there, and you can't go? Not good and GM needs to be held accountable.
We definitely advise contacting Chevy in order to issue an official safety complaint about the exact issues you've mentioned and more. This tip is used to help people who might be stranded somewhere and not know how to get their car started.
my car has a problem with this but my car lights and gas needle won't come up unless the car has been running then it cuts on or if it's been in the sun. I've changed the fuel filter and we checked the pump and it shut gas through the line no problem. my car wil sputter and it still won't crank even cycling it won't work..I think my security light could be on or have something to do with resting it.
This is happening to me right now. I have a 2005 Chevy Classic 4 cylinder. I need to get the recall ignition changed but the dealer says since I don't have the original key to the car, they can't do it. I purchased the car from someone in 2017. The car runs very good accept when this ignition problem happens. The mechanic I took the car to has taken apart the wires to the car alarm system and the automatic engine start and now the alarm system and automatic locks are not working.

I bought this car a few days ago n rn having this issue lmao I left my car at the gas station the people helping me where saying it was the fuel pump or the ignition sensor but now tmr I'ma check if this theft shi works hopefully
I got a 99 Malibu.. my theft light is always on even when It was running, but it was a solid light , it never blinked ..now my car not starting .. tried resetting it,and still doing the same thing , any ideas anyone?
Does anybody ever wonder why GM was never made to recall these cars for this issue? I've had mine replaced at the dealer 2 times now. If you count the switch that came in the car from the factory, I'm on my third complete ignition switch. Costs around $800 each time. Where's my recall and my bailout? By the way, there never was an actual ignition switch recall for these cars. The recall fix is what amounts to installing a plastic insert within your key, adding a page to your owner manual, and giving you two small metal rings on which to hang your remote fob, and keys. The actual ignition switch is never touched or deemed bad. GM is so deceitful.
chickenfarm09 They are deceitful. My 2001 Chev Malibu is doing this too and they put the plastic ring and metal ring on my key as a fix. Recently I was on the Interstate with my baby in the car and the car cut off while driving do to this issue. I almost wrecked. Ny husband called to report this and they said they did what they were willing to do. People can die because of this.
Its the ignition lock out due to the PASSLOCK II system .. The sensor in the lock cylinder goes bad .. A garage did the fuel pump on my car .. Big rip off .. $800 .. The manual tells you how to start it but until you replace the sensor you'll have to repeat the process all the time .. Getting a new key can solve the issue for the most part .. I used my second key after the first key started not working and it starts 95% of the time .. Get a new key made from your unused key fob if you have one to make sure the key isn't worn down from use

That is my case, I wanted to even replace the spark plugs, my car dashboard reads anti security theft on light.
