Hey Brother thank you for this video. My cylinder went bad and wasn’t turning with ease anymore. Was only a matter of time before I couldnt start it. Got my 76 impala up n running.
Video was a huge help man! I got an ‘84 Jimmy, and there is no release tab on mine, but the little black screw just above the silver one was the retaining screw for the ignition. Again, thank you so much for these videos!!! Keep on truckin!
My friend has a 79 GMC C1500 Sierra Classic Heavy Half, and he had to replace the ignition tumbler on it a while back. Apparently I believe the pins were worn out or sheared. That meant that you could literally turn the ignition on and start the truck without a key in it!!!
Thank you buddy!! I watched you three videos on pulling the steering wheel and replacing the cylinder on my 85 crew cummins clark 5 speed flatbed dually.... Truck.. Thanks again and i will be visiting yall again LT Dan
🤣😂 I took the easy way out.. Hit the pick and pull, found one with the keys in it, 20 minutes later I was motor-vating again... But older GM vehicles are getting scarce.
Like a wise man once said: in the 70’s GM stopped making great trucks, in the 90’s GM stopped making good trucks and in the 2000’s GM stopped making trucks( but they’re still better than anything Ford ever made)
Just go to a Napa auto parts store and go to the door pins, clips door handle/window crank handle racks and that's also where they have the window switches for the pwr window trucks, anyways they usually have the turn signal cancelling cam and switch assembly on the racks
Instead of pushing the pinto remove the tumbler I’ve been taught to turn the cylinder forward and it t comes right out. Put the new one back in the same way with key I forward position.
Ahhhh then in that case your way is the way. Mine all the sudden just feels like everything let go. It turns forward and backwards but doesn’t seem like it’s push the switch rod anymore. I have to take it apart to see what’s going on ,
I'm thinking of replacing the ignition lock cylinder in my 1973 GM cab/chassis truck. The starter will always go, but won't disengage. Even key turned back to the off position. It's like the truck is putting constant power to the S-post on the solenoid. I don't know if that will fix it
@@SquarebodyStuff When I took off the wheel the whole thing looks identical but there is no slot in the gap where you're supposed to get into with a flat screwdriver. Do people hammer their way in there? On my column the 'slot' is solid aluminium (or whatever it is).
@@SquarebodyStuff No it's like the one you worked on through the majority of the video. Do I need to drill out to create a hole to access that black tab?
Whether people believe it or not the GMT400 88-94 tbi version is pretty much the same thing as swapping out the ignition key cylinder and key as the square body trucks are
Hello their friend your video is helpful I just purchased one from the tow yard I work at but no keys unfortunately…. Can I still change out the ignition switch with out a key I believe that’s how you did it correct??? Thanks for the help and time
77 C10 Custom Deluxe. Replaced cylinder. I have the choke power source connected to ignition. It cuts the power off but you can’t get the key out. If you want the key out it goes to acc with power. It’s draining the battery. Any ideas?
Ive been fighting with mine for days. I even took a dye grinder to the opening o give me more room to get anything in there. I can't fit any pick I've bought in a 10 mile radius into the opening. Everything is too big. And even when I get something in there. The stupid little spring loaded retainer goes absolutely nowhere.
Nevermind. The retainer isn't where you think it is. And a lot of jiggling from the lock. Twisting and such, really helps. If you don't break or scratch something. You probably didn't pull an og cylinder.
You're welcome. Yes I have some hats. Dm me on Facebook Instagram or email me and we'll figure something out. I need to get a website for the merch going.
This was very helpful.
I just successfully changed my ignition cylinder in my 1970 AMC ambassador station wagon, because of this video.
Thank you.
I'm glad it helped out.
Always interesting watching someone else take things apart. Especially when you know what you're doing & actually fix it !!! Thx
I got you fooled 🤣🤣🤣
I have a 73 K10 that locked up on me today. I will be using this video tomorrow. Thanks for taking the time share, Very much appreciated!
Good luck
Great video...this has inspired me to finally get around to changing mine!
Thanks. Glad to help out.

Sounds promising. Really cool project.

Enjoyed your video --- I have a 75, 76, 79 and 86 chevy trucks will be watching 👍

Great video Chad.. I need to fix that turn signal piece on my OBS Suburban... I bought one and of course it doesn't fit right
New parts are a pain sometimes

I agree somewhat. I do love my 2012 3500HD with the duramax.
90s chevy trucks are fantastic trucks idk wtf you’re talking about

Thank you sir
You're welcome. Thanks for watching
Congrats on the milestone 👍🏾
Thanks
Still waiting on that little stroker! Ok ok I’m done begging! Lol
Lol, be patient. I'm getting to it.
Great work buddy !
Thanks Homie

I didn't have a key for the old one.

Use a test light to verify that is the issue. My guess is that it is the starter solenoid itself getting stuck.
@SquarebodyStuff Oh okay I'll give that a go first. Thanks for the fast response
Great video, thank you! Off to replace one in my Elco
Thanks

There might be a screw there holding it in
@@SquarebodyStuff No it's like the one you worked on through the majority of the video. Do I need to drill out to create a hole to access that black tab?
I'm not real sure, I've not ran across one without the slot
what would cause the temp gauge on my 75 c20 to read pegged past high? it’s got new gm button head sensor and wiring is ok. gauge is also ok on bench

Same situation here, no key for mine.

I'm not real sure on that. Did you replace anything else or just the cylinder?
Always leave key out off lock when you remove or put switch in it brakes key buzzer
Great video! Does this 6 cylinder have the integrated head? Do you know what year they stared using those crazy things?
Yes, integrated head.
Here's a video I did on the history of the 250 in squarebodys

Thanks. I really appreciate it
@@SquarebodyStuff I’m a huge squarebody fan I had so many back in the day but I really want a 87 2WD long bed
I wish I still had all the ones I let get away.
@@SquarebodyStuff I know the feeling trust me, now they want thousands for junk. I used to get them for 100-600 bucks
Anyone know how to get through a lock cylinder that has been drill out?
Same as I did in the video. This one had been attempted to be drilled. No need for a key to get the cylinder out.
Thanks for the content are you getting hats to sell

That screw definitely has to come out
I need to do this my keys fall out my cylinder lol
One more reason Japanese became better, cause they made it easier to work on,
