How are you not more popular? You and Marty taught me how to play!

According to his interview with Smartless, Vedder said that many of the lyrics in Black were largely meaningless as it pertained to the potential of a personal relationship. He just said he thought they sounded good. Will Arnett specifically asks Eddie about the famous “I know you’ll be a star in someone else’s sky, what can’t it be mine” and Vedder essentially replied “they (the lyrics) sounded good”. However, maybe he just said that because he really didn’t want to delve into it.

Black is when everything lines up and magic happens. Smart not to push it makes them want it even more

Interesting story. I assumed it had to do with something of the sort.
Well…this song has helped me a lot recently cause I’m going through a divorce. 13 years together and now it’s all gone. Certain words/lyrics in his song hit me very hard. “I Know Some Day You’ll Have A Beautiful Life, I Know You’ll Be A Star In Somebody Else’s Sky, But Why? Why? Why?! Can’t it be…Can’t it be mine?!”

Thanks so much for mining such great songs! It’s how many gems are roaming the wild. And once again many thanks for explaining them in such a straightforward manner.

My favorite song for sure. It’s why sex shouldn’t be tossed around. It’s a soul bonding, and when it’s torn away, it doesn’t heal. ✝️

The music you are playing has nothing to do with EV. The guitar player should be getting the credit.
