The most heart breaking part of this song and gets me every time 😥 I know someday you'll have a beautiful life I know you'll be a star In somebody else's sky But why Why Why can't it be Why can't it be mine
This is it, this is the passion and the genius required to be a star. This blows me away every single time. It’s like an out of body experience for me. Eddie Vedder is the best ever.
i feel this is the only live version of black that almost captures the true emotion of the studio recording. most of the other live versions i've seen can't even come close to replicating the power of the original.
+Sam Ace Rothstein Agreed. I prefer this to the original. I was 18 when Ten came out. I always preferred Alice In Chains but, this song always called to me.
Stevesk0011 the unplugged version is definitely up there too. that was a great performance. Hampton AZ same here, i usually prefer alice in chains myself, but they really outdid themselves with ten.
Eddie had stated in an interview that "Black" is a true story. I decided to Google it and read that his ex had died. Not sure if this song was actually written for her but I sure can relate. I lost the love of my life during Great White's pyrotechnics at The Station in Warwick RI. I was called in to work early that evening. So my fiancé and a friend went in my place. I got the call right at my bar. My bar mate turned on the television and it was already on the news. I don't remember much after that. All I know is when I arrived at the club, the smell of the dead was overwhelming. By the time I had arrived my fiance had been taken to the hospital. I didn't know if he was safely taken out or dead just yet. When his sister phoned my bar, she just told me there had been an accident and to come quickly. When we were all at the hospital we were taken into this private room. I knew right there he was gone. You see he had chronic asthma. The Dr. told us he went fast. Evidently he had time to kick out a small basement window and saved our friends life. He never made it out. That's the kind selfless man he was. We lost 4 good friends that horrible night. I ask myself why was I spared? I was angry that I would have to go on without my baby. I never dated again. Still haven't. I tried but my heart was never in it. The irony of this is, he used to sing this particular song to me all the time. When you lose anyone to tragedy, there's no coming out of it the same..ever. RIP my baby.
I’m not saying I personally do it myself, but if smartphones were around at this time generation has nothing to do with it.. this generation would have been recording it too if they had the opportunity :)
God damn, every note, every word sung by Eddie just strikes you the core in this performance; it's definitely one of the best live performances I've seen on youtube. You can clearly see he is feeling whatever that girl did to him in this just as much as the day he wrote this song.
if you look at Eddie Vetter at [ 5:09 - 5:15 ] - he is NO longer on the stage - he has no idea who all the people are in front of him or why they are clapping - he has wholly transmuted himself and GONE back to that place from where this song emerged - just LOOK at him - he literally transmuted himself off the stage at 4:21 - he is so GONE - that is what makes this song so stunning and it must be incredibly difficult and painful for him to sing this song and release all of that internal pain each time he sings it - has to be one of the greatest singing performances in rock-n-roll history tbh
ive listened to many many different versions of this song and videos of this song. This is still the best one. This is even better than unplugged imo. The band killed it in this one.

Елизавета Деркач I can feel his pain because like Eddie I lost my wife who I loved thank God we have 2 kids but don't have her. That's life u know
I’m there with you guys , I’m there with you ....
I lost the love of my life to pancreatic cancer last November 13. She was my best friend my soulmate😢 and the mother of our only child, and I will never get over losing her and this song is heartbreaking and I listen to it repeatedly because it reminds me of just how much we were in love not just with each other but with the love of the life we had with our family. A truly heartfelt song for me. Keep on Rocking the world Eddie my friend.
Esta canção e interpretação é das melhores de Pearl Jam❤❤
U keep going as well with the same energy it took to express that!
So very sorry😢
Deepest sympathies to you... She is still with you, just on a different plane no longer in pain...
'I Want to Eat Your Pancreas', watch it.

Obra prima do rock. Vou morrer escutando essa música.
Menina !! eu tirei um print dessa teu pensamento; Bateu na minha alma , é o que estou passando . . . Dói demais !!!!!

I am sorry 😞
This right here is the best version of this song
JahJah agreeed
Pearl Jam performing "Black" from their 1992 MTV Unplugged concert in New York City is better.
@@kimeiriklarsen7499 I agree Kim. Way better.
@@lilflower25 It's actually one of my favorite live recordings ever. Just incredible performance, especially by Eddie.
@@kimeiriklarsen7499 Mine too Kim. Beyond awesomeness.
Hey, oh
Sheets of empty canvas
Untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me
As her body once did
All five horizons
Revolved around her soul
As the earth to the sun
Now the air I tasted and breathed
Has taken a turn
Oh and all I taught her was everything
Oh I know she gave me all that she wore
And now my bitter hands
Chafe beneath the clouds
Of what was everything
Oh the pictures have
All been washed in black
Tattooed everything
I take a walk outside
I'm surrounded by
Some kids at play
I can feel their laughter
So why do I sear
Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin
Round my head
I'm spinning
Oh, I'm spinning
How quick the sun can, drop away
And now my bitter hands
Cradle broken glass
Of what was everything
All the pictures have
All been washed in black
Tattooed everything
All the love gone bad
Turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see
All that I am
All that I'll be, yeah
Uh huh, uh huh, oh
I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
I know you'll be a star
In somebody else's sky
But why
Why
Why can't it be
Oh can't it be mine
We, We, We belong toguether, toguether, toguether
We, We belong toguether, toguether, toguether
Thanks

I know, i've been saying that since i saw this. like 90's Vedder...just for a second come lay over here lol
Yeah, he can lay by me any day.
Eddie Vedder - one of the most beautiful men to ever live. Just sheer unparalleled beauty and talent. This is the ultimate heartbreak song. So many fans can't listen to the last two minutes without breaking down in tears. Just have no words for the ending...
He really was gorgeous as a younger guy. He keeps himself in good shape still. I wish he would grow back his hair again😁
Gawd I LOVED him...my favorite tee shirt sophomore year said "Mrs Eddie Vedder" 🤣🤣🤣 my dad HATED it 🤦...he was way too old for me but I would have runaway with him in a heartbeat lol.
Más que hermoso, me enamoré de él desde la primera vez que lo vi de niña 😍🖤
Eddie's gaze during "I know someday you'll have a beautiful life..." really shows the emotion behind this song. Ugh.
2:11 The way Stone looks at Eddie. As if to say its gonna be ok mate. Am here
Eddie gives him the thumbs up, saying he's okay. Hard song for him.
So strong emotionally painful. Yes I saw it too
True. Made that comment m self too . However with Ed you never know if he’s stoned . Stone (lol) may have been like holy shit is this dude sober enough ( you can understand me if you check the whole set ) or it may be holy shit is he okay
Saw that too...he was fighting back from crying on stage.
Exactly what I said to myself!
So true!
that guitar at the end. no one talking about that.....
edit 2020: 3 years later and the last min and 20 seconds still makes me cry.
jerry Reyes I think you mean throughout the whole song ;)
McCready’s guitar is fucking epic!
The guitar when they did Black at MSG back in 00 or 01 is the best. The solo was amazing
You just did jackoff... jerryoff.
Oh Mike is killing it at the end. He’s much more reserved today. They were as good as this when I saw them on the Yield tour in ‘98 at Continental Airlines Arena, NJ.
Just check out the killer set list!
