+James P its hard not to talk up a qsc from a sales prospective they have had the same model out for years and its a solid model. But seriously I think that solid model is starting to get beat out by better technology not just from JBL but EV too.

+Vivek Mangipudi either method will work that is also know as daisy chaining. It is used all the time in the dj world. Depending on manufactors recomendation they might say the go either sub first or tops first. Wither doesnt matter. Some subs will have a high pass out for the speakers which affectivly will cut the bass that the sub is already producing from the subs aloughing them to be the louder since the speakers arent try to rproduce the bass that the sub is producing. Like wise sometimes manufactors such as qsc put this high pass option in there top speakers so you could run to the speakers first then the subs. Overall either method works but if theres a high pass available either on your tops or sub. Sometimes on top speakers its called sub mood which is what my eons say. But the high pass will help your tops a bunch with making them louder and improving the sound of your setul.

+Fernando Velasquez thats a solid set of speakers there. Personally the qsc stuff I think is solid equipment and has shown it through the test of time now. Although I would say with that age the price point there are newer competitive models from jbl and ev that are better for same if not cheaper prices now.
Sorry I'm so late catching this vid. I'd like to see a video explaining what wattage speakers I would need to select for given sized rooms, as well as speaker placement, and sub setups. Thanks.
+ThomasGrillo there is no such set thing to determine wattage to room size. Way to many perrameters to determine. Like how many people what type of music room layout dimensions of the room. Where you will be placed. The goal of the event. For instance this one venue for a wedding I bring 2 tops 2 subs only. For a prom in the same place I bring 4 tops and 4 subs. More people in the room and I need to fill the room with sound verse the wedding where it needs to be loud on the dance floor but in the back of the room it just needs to be loud enough to make announcements.
I have already hooked power to power with Mackie 608 To my JBL powered speakers on the phone with Mackie worked fine 6 months ago but have never used this since then just wanted to try it tonight will call them tomorrow
Very well explained DJ..RW My request???s I need to connect my Mix5 Mixer, that has (L/R 1/4" outs) to a single powered speaker with ONE (1/4" input and one XLR in/out). Plus I need to connect to a house speaker system. But my single powered speaker will be my monitor. Is this possible? and if so what do it need to connect these and will I be able to achieve stereo sound? So MIXed up rght now, pleez help
Couple questions whats the input for the house system and does it have output of any kind? If there is no output option you are going to have to connect to the powered monitor then the house system. And in that route do to the single output of the speaker you will only be able to hook up the house system in mono. Honestly I prefer mono over stereo. But to do this here is what you will need. 1 - 1/4 to 1/4 cable 1 - 1/4 to male xlr cable you can run the L channel to the 1/4 input on the speaker and the R channel to the xlr input. Then you can run the xlr ouput to the house system. Depending on the inputs of the house system there are a lot of adapter cables to meet the needs for that input just give it a search on amazon. Hope this helps
Hey great videos. I am new to Dj-ing. I have newmark pro 3. looking to buy set of speakers and can’t decide and need your advise. Which ones are better. Jbl eon 615 or ev zlx-15p? And what else would I need to get these rockin.
Hey one more question. What about between ev zlx-15p and jbl SRX815p? Which are better. And what you suggested in your video JBL srx818sp sub. I want some thing good that can also handle bigger parties 300+. Thanks!
Question is it your mic at your events because all your music distorts. I hope its the mic because it doesn't make a difference what speakers you use only to have you distort them
What about how to set the bass, treble, mids on controller (denon mc4000) and powered speakers (ev zlx 12)...are these functions set at 12noon on both components?
You shouldn't use a controller to adjust eq since you really need those controls for mixing. A seprate eq mixer should be used in the audio chain or adjusted on the speaker itself
Hello again Ive seen this video about 5 times and shared it with other friend djs . It is very helpful. You mentioned that there was a video coming of the PRXs. I know you now use the SRX but I would love to see if you have a review of the PRX App DSP . They had updates made. Thanks A lot!
thank you for the information it helped a lot but I also have a question? how do you hook up the denom mc 6000 with another denom mc 6000 to play at the same time?
+Freddy Gonzalez hmmmm not familar with the output and inputs of those mixers. But if you can link one into a spare channel on the other that would work. Or just get another mixer like the yahmaha and like both into that.

Hey How are you doing, I have the numark pro 3 it uses USB to laptop and RCA to powered speaker. How would I hook up and/ or Daisy chain my 2 Rockville powered speakers and a Rockville(1) powered subwoofer... Thanks!
Hi I see you're using vdj. I just purchased two 12 peavey and the sub. What settings are you using for your output? I'm running into major problem with sound. Any help would be appreciated
+JoshTheGreat33 powered spekaers/sub means the amp is built into the speaker/sub. All you need to do is send and input single to them. And every powered speaker/sub made has inputs and thru puts on them so linking the 2 together is as simple as plugging the input into the sub and taking the tru put through the sub and hooking it into the input of the speake
Just saw this video in my feed today. It is not possible to destroy most speakers (if not all) due to active speakers containing a hard limiter set to when the peak light illuminates
Not the case with all. I have seen prxs, eons, qsc k12s. And others blown. But it also comes down to distortion.when using a proper gain structure you limit distortion.
Yeah! True gain structure is a must for anything to do with audio. But i have never lead a speaker to blowing itself yet in my career of sound of 4 years
hi mate, really like the info thanks. I am having sound cut off problems for couple of months with my active speakers. Really annoying as it happens in the middle of event. I use VDJ8 with DDJ SB2 controller and subzero active speakers. Tried everything but still have the same problem. Can it be because of high volume ? or something else ? Thanks
Hi rick, greetings from Ireland. Question... I’m using a pair of Alto T15 active tops & I’m using a Hercules RMX controller linked to a Gemini 2 channel mixer. The controller doesn’t have an led display for the 0db thing so where should my knobs on the mixer/speakers be set. Should I turn the speaker volume to about 2 o’clock & control volume thru master vol control on mixer? Should my master vol on my controller be at max, thanks
Like I said in the video with out a led readout all you need to know is keep any volume knob at or below 75% or 3/4 turn. You never want any gains at max. If you can run both at 12 a clock and get the speaker to limit that would be ideal.
how does the bass sound on these will this sound good in small hall with high ceilings. I got two Samson Expedition old speakers need to do a small halloween party 150 ppl any recommendations for setup. Need the bass to hit hard. One subwoofer or two for small budget. I have the Rane one what wires would I need??
I use a Mix Track Pro 3 and the only inputs and outputs is one set of RCA if I wanted to connect to power speakers would I use something like the Little mixer you had use that and connect the speakers to that and then RCA to the little mixer then RCA to my Mix Track Pro 3?
DJ Rick Web Okay Thanks, if I was going to have two tops and two subs and had the tops and subs linked to wear I was left with only two XLR cables then would I need a mixer ?
DJ Rick Web interesting. Cause I go from my SB3 to a 5 channel mixer and then out to the sub. My connections are rca/quarter inch. I was just wondering about which should be the ultimate master volume. The mixer master or the mains speaker master?
+Jose Navarro trim is mostly to adjust the gain of the channel dont touch those to much just leave them at like 12 a clock or maybe 3 aclock. Never go past 3. Then just follow my guide in this video on master and speaker volumes
+Koua Her sarcasm? The title is powered speakers meaning this is for powered only speakers. Which are speakers that have the amps built into the cabinets
wish i saw your video before i used my EON 615, after 30 minutes i start smelling very strong electric burning, now when i turn the bass up there is little rattling very little that its hard to detect but you could if you listen carefully, now i dont know if that its blown up or its just some stuff rattling with the bass.
Thanks for the great video! I have a question for you; When you turn on your speakers at 3:41 where is you volume fader at on your controller, mixer, etc.? Did you leave it all the way up at full volume? Thanks again. 😊👍
I mean it doesn’t travel like you’re standing in the middle of a big venue you can’t really feel the bass out far but if I stand behind the speakers I feel tremendous base. I feel like there something in my dbx blocking
Sounds like a speaker placement issue. Depending on where you set a speaker in a room you can cancel all bass. See my subwoofer and speaker room placement videos
I said the Mackie 608 powered amplifier will also run powered speakers just not sure where to plug them in have not used my new powered amp yet I talked to Mackie they told me how to do it but that was 6 months ago I never did do it going to have to call mackie again but this Is compatible that is why I bought this to run my powered JBL speakers
No mixer, but it is sounding like that is the better idea. I picked up a pre amp ( with rca input/outputs) but my powered speaker is XLR input. With rca being unbalanced and XLR being balanced, is that an issue? Even if it works, I would still be losing out on the " balanced" properties, correct?
Hi Ricky, I have a few questions in regards to a 21st birthday gig I did a few weeks ago at a house. I used two Mackie Thump 15A. The Mackie Thump 15A has a main volume knob and two gain knobs for each channel. On both speakers, I set the channel knob and main knob to the middle. On my Pioneer DDJ-SR2 the master knob was in the middle as well as both channel gain knobs. Throughout the night as I needed more volume, I was raising the master on my controller instead of raising the volumes up on the speakers. I noticed the highs were a little too much on the sound. I also felt like I wasn't getting enough bass as I would normally expect from Mackies (I used to use the older Mackie Thump models). 1. Is there something I could have done better here? 2. The two speaker stands I used were not that tall. Does speaker stand height effect how much bass you'll get from the speaker? 3. Is this how the new Mackie Thump 15A sounds? Maybe I should use a mixer board next time like the Yamaha mixer you showed in this video?
Number 3 is your answer. If you dont have the ability to adjust how the speaker sounds on the speaker you need a mixer/eq somewhere in the chain to adjust the eq to your liking. Number 2 no it doesn't matter on height once your off the ground you loose that effect. Distance to a wall beside or behind the speaker can increase the bass though
@@DJRickWeb I will try that next time. I do have a small Mackie Mix5 mixer board I can use. I'm sure you have used the Mackie Thump 15A before since you recommended it in your beginner DJ speakers video. Did you ever mess around with the four EQ presets on the back of the speaker to see which one worked best for you? (Music, Live, Monitor, Sub)
@@DJRickWeb hello friend very good video I want to ask a question I have my american audio vms4.1 controller and I have amplified speakers it is necessary to use a mixer yes or no thanks
how do you get the volume so loud at parties if you are keeping it at 0 db? I dont really know how to set speakers up, but you have it hitting 100 db or something, but how do you achieve that when you are only at 0db on your mixer?
Mixer db is just how much gain you are adding or subtracting to the sound signal. What you measure on the output end (what your hearing from the speakers) that db does not correlate at all to the mixer db. The output is a measure of how efficient and powerful your amplifier and speaker combination is.
Question on my speakers i have an (input knob) which im guessing is your signal knob you put at half way then turn the volume knob up till it hits the limit. Also can i put the input knob past half way to say 75% or will that bring the limit light on sooner. Is it best to also do the subs before the tops or other way around?
Subs vs tops doesn't matter. Just listen to the sound and make sure the subs sound even with the tops. As far as the volume knobs. There is no said rule. You just dont want to go past 75%. The whole point of that is to avoid adding any unnecessary gain to the system that can distort the audio.
thank you bro...It's absolutely ridiculous to me how copyright prevents you from literally giving an educational tutorial like this!

+Fernando Velasquez thats a solid set of speakers there. Personally the qsc stuff I think is solid equipment and has shown it through the test of time now. Although I would say with that age the price point there are newer competitive models from jbl and ev that are better for same if not cheaper prices now.
What are yours favorite speakers in 2021? Thanks for answer
Not sure

So, If i get a JBL SRX 828SP and two JBL SRX 815's, is it recommended that i get a dbx drive rack or am i good w/out it?
Good without it. I would suggest making a tune for the tops and saving it to the speaker. Check that video out

Can you do a video of subwoofer placement, I've seen a couple of videos but their all drawings and are very boring.
+Joel Guerrero (DJ Twist) very much so I know exactly what your talking about I have watched those videos too
Sorry I'm so late catching this vid.
More people in the room and I need to fill the room with sound verse the wedding where it needs to be loud on the dance floor but in the back of the room it just needs to be loud enough to make announcements.
how will you connect the 4 tops and 2 subs to the mixer? thanks
I have already hooked power to power with Mackie 608
To my JBL powered speakers on the phone with Mackie worked fine 6 months ago but have never used this since then just wanted to try it tonight will call them tomorrow

1 - 1/4 to 1/4 cable
1 - 1/4 to male xlr cable
you can run the L channel to the 1/4 input on the speaker and the R channel to the xlr input. Then you can run the xlr ouput to the house system. Depending on the inputs of the house system there are a lot of adapter cables to meet the needs for that input just give it a search on amazon.
Hope this helps
That it did, thanks a lot. Just a side note. Should i be concerned about feedback from the monitor with this set up?
Yes. If your using mic. Just watch your placement. And volune level on the monitor
Thanks, can you please do a video on how to chain connecting powered speakers to another?
+Daniel Merriweather Washington its pretty straight forward xlr in to out. On the back of the speakers nothing trivial
Thank you very much man, and thank you for the help with the videos
Hi, should speakers be above head height or lower?
Above

Hey great videos. I am new to Dj-ing. I have newmark pro 3. looking to buy set of speakers and can’t decide and need your advise. Which ones are better.
Jbl eon 615 or ev zlx-15p? And what else would I need to get these rockin.
There both pretty even. I swing more to the evs just for better features. And you need stands and cables
DJ Rick Web thanks!
Hey one more question. What about between ev zlx-15p and jbl SRX815p? Which are better. And what you suggested in your video JBL srx818sp sub. I want some thing good that can also handle bigger parties 300+. Thanks!
Srx is 2 levels above zlx. And no I wouldn't get the srx sub it's not any better than the prx.
Can i use only one powered speaker for good sound ?
Yes

I love that scratch intro😂
Question is it your mic at your events because all your music distorts. I hope its the mic because it doesn't make a difference what speakers you use only to have you distort them
Yes the camera mic is what is distorting. Cant handle heavy bass or high db

So for the DJ controller you don’t need a mixer? Since it has EQ software I’m assuming you don’t need a rack with compressor, etc?
You really dont need anything additional. The other stuff is overkill

What about how to set the bass, treble, mids on controller (denon mc4000) and powered speakers (ev zlx 12)...are these functions set at 12noon on both components?
You shouldn't use a controller to adjust eq since you really need those controls for mixing. A seprate eq mixer should be used in the audio chain or adjusted on the speaker itself

thank you for the information it helped a lot but I also have a question? how do you hook up the denom mc 6000 with another denom mc 6000 to play at the same time?
+Freddy Gonzalez hmmmm not familar with the output and inputs of those mixers. But if you can link one into a spare channel on the other that would work. Or just get another mixer like the yahmaha and like both into that.
DJ Rick Web ok thank you I will try it.

Have you got gain brings out bass mid hi loud better don't need to use master volume as much

That's just the break in smell. All new speakers are like that. It goes away after a couple uses. If it doesnt then your pushing the speakers too hard

Is it possible to connect powered speakers and a powered subwoofer together? Do you need an amp?
But i have never lead a speaker to blowing itself yet in my career of sound of 4 years
Tis possible. Working for a production / muliop company for 4 years. Its impressive to see the things people find a way to break....
hi mate, really like the info thanks.

Would there be a difference between a 12 and 15 inch powered speaker if you are using a separate sub?

+Sweeney Music you could do that or get a rca to xlr conversion cable.

I have a ddj-sb2 it has a trim volume and the master and I have 2 pa speakers I really don't know how to set up the volume can you help

Do you need an amplifier?

Is compatible that is why I bought this to run my powered JBL speakers
Hey man, does your knowledge extend into turntables as well?
Having serious trouble trying to set up powered speakers to my turntable >.>
Your not using a mixer before outputting to your speakers?
No mixer, but it is sounding like that is the better idea.
I picked up a pre amp ( with rca input/outputs) but my powered speaker is XLR input.
With rca being unbalanced and XLR being balanced, is that an issue?
Even if it works, I would still be losing out on the " balanced" properties, correct?
You would lose the grounding of the xlr. You can buy a rca to xlr cable though. I used it multiple times
thanks bro!
(Music, Live, Monitor, Sub)

how do you get the volume so loud at parties if you are keeping it at 0 db? I dont really know how to set speakers up, but you have it hitting 100 db or something, but how do you achieve that when you are only at 0db on your mixer?
Mixer db is just how much gain you are adding or subtracting to the sound signal. What you measure on the output end (what your hearing from the speakers) that db does not correlate at all to the mixer db. The output is a measure of how efficient and powerful your amplifier and speaker combination is.
DJ Rick Web I just go out from my dj controller into the speaker

I have ×2 LD active speaker with bluetooth. How do i connect my android devices to it so it can come out on both speaker.
You can only connect to one. And link the other with a cable or wireless xlr
Thanks for your feedback
