Just a side note: I could have gone into way more detail on the diference in drivers, price, weight, ex.. All of which play into why one series is better than another. Example: the JBL prx cabinets are using lower end transducers and drivers vs The JBL srx which are using the same driver technology found in their high end touring systems. Makes a huge difference in sound and how well the speakers can take advantage of the amplifier power available to them. Also this video was not meant to cover tour grade powered speakers: Such as RCF TT series, JBL VRX, or JBL Vertec. As these lines are very expensive and not really mobile DJ realm.
DJ Rick Web can you please explain me how your forgot the Yorkville Parasource and Elite Series???? I mean with all due respect as a dj Woking in Canada for over 30 years, Yorkville blows EV and JBL out of the water.
+Elisha Soussan well I stated that this list consisted of speakers I have heard and seen be popular in my area. I know yorkville is a killer company and I did demo them once about 3 yesrs ago. But I havent actually hesrd them out at gigs and no one in my area uses them. So for me to give an honest opinion on them... I really cant unfortunately. Same goes for rcf, turbosound, fbt and many other really good vrands out there.
@@lexveldhuis5818 what about the ELX model specifically the 10”. What do you think about those?? I know EV has smooth sound and good bass. I had cerwin Vega CVE 10” which had more bass than the EV ZLX 12 but the ev was louder. What do you think about EV compared to QSC tho As far as sound quality
My favorite powered mobile DJ speakers are the Bose F1s, you can fit both the 2 subs and 2 tops in the trunk of even a compact sedan along with the DJ booth, cables, a DJ console, and some DMX lights. You can use them in large venues to the point where you have to use line array systems. Also, I prefer the Bose sound over JBL although I like the sound of both of them. I would definitely bite the bullet on Bose F1s if I were to be a mobile DJ. I’ve heard Bose PA systems in person and they sound very smooth and crystal clear.
MY opinions:QSC=very nice sound, deep bass...very good for weddings,a little bit too pricy JBL-lighweight and good for big rooms, very natural sound, big thumping bass..good for mobile DJs EV-clean and loud, lots of models, good for instalations and they look very good FBT-very good sound, natural and clean, lightweight and everything they has is amazing but they are too expensive(normaly worth the price) RCF-about the same as FBT but they has some cheaper models and they sound different...RCF speakers are good for bands and outfoor events TURBOSOUND-very loud and ok sounding speakers for affordable price but maybe too heavy and subwoofers are not really that good but tops are amazing ALTO-good speakers for the price you can build awesome budget system YAMAHA-very loud and goof sounding but they are very loosing in sound from big distances and outdoors....that are just my opinions about different speaker brands that i somehow find out during the fifferent tests events and videos...sorry for my bad english im only 15 years old and im not from a country where is english speaken
@Appoddigare well im 16 now...i love speakers(they are my passion)and i go to a lot of gigs(dj-s,concerts,smaller events...)...i also work(summer kind of job-just for fun,not really for much money)at a sound company that has a lot of different speaker models (electro voice, yamaha, turbosound etc) and i also have my own sets of alto speakers that im very happy with and sometimes i do dj and sound events for up to 200 people. Im not that much about dj im more about sound and thats why i have some experiences, but all those were just my opinions about different speakers and what i think of them
Gents, I’m relatively new at DJing, but I been a sound system enthusiast for 40years. I currently run 2 QSC K-subs (2 12” drivers in each cabinet) with 2 EV ZLX15 tops. In general it works, however it lacks to impress me. I don’t ding the bass gets to the dance floor, and I find the highs a bit harsh in the midrange and dull in the high clarity. It will be time to step up in both tops and subs. I have 4 Cerwin Vega AT-12 home stereo speakers my dad purchased in 1988 that still play great. I would like to also consider the new line of CV active pro audio speakers. I have always been partial to JBL in Mobil, Home and pro audio. It is a tricky choice to make when buying speakers today. Thanks for the reviews, it helps greatly. One think I can give the older Ksubs I have, they are very well built and reliable. Casters, good amps, robust construction. I wish they delivered more bass fwd.
Great vid and info. I will disagree on the QSC line. Having parties of 500+ using two KW 181s and two K12s I had more than enough space with the sound. Excellent DJM 900 Nexus mixer and nice cables help. I consider them pro line for sure. Not saying they're the best, and they're pricey, but they are the best for me. I've been spinning for 30+ years too. Check out the new QSC KS118 new subs. Thanks and keep spinnin' and making vids.
Hi Rick, great video again! Owning both RCF (Evox) and EV, I can share with you that the high/mid sound output of the Evox series is truly amazing. One downside for me: Although the system is featuring a subwoofer, it feels more like a mid-bass unit which can hit hard, but it lacks in the deep end. Combining the Evox system with one or two big subs, and you have system that has huge out capability. I live in Europe, in the Netherlands where both EV and JBL a very popular too. Another popular EU brand is HK. Keep up the good work for the DJ community!
I use to use EV alot when starting out. Sold them all when I personally scaled and now default is JBL STX. We use bigger array's such as Meyersound, db audiotechnik and CODA Audio for bigger shows. However I'm saving up to get VRX mini arrays!
For my standard 2-300 person setup I run 2 QSC KW181 subs with 2 K12 Tops.. I agree with you when it comes to their misleading marketing strategy, but I have to say that I would definitely put these two models in the Pro Line category. The sound they are capable of producing is of exceptional quality and I have yet to have an event that required me to turn them more than 60% up. Not discounting the SRX line, I have heard great things, although I have never heard them in person.
I run the same thing and have done parties that size and even larger with no problems. Many of these brands have the speaker you need. A lot is personal preference and the sound it produces.
Of all the PA that I've heard the QSC E215s with the E118SWs sounded the best. Obviously passive PA isn't ideal for a mobile DJ, but in terms of sound quality, that setup is hard to beat.
i have two turbosound ix12 with a bass boss dual 18 powered sub woofer and i use them for bigger gigs and have no problems as my first setup i had two rockville powergig 12s with no sub woofer my new setup puts the old one to shame i highly recommend turbo sound powered speakers
Cerwin Vega is really good too. It’s not really marketed but its reputation still lives on. The CVE series is good and the CVX series is even better. I’ve been in a lot of clubs that use Cerwin Vega speakers but most people don’t care to use them since they’re considered more of an old school brand
I like how much you love JBL. I made my living with JBL Altec Peavey EV when they were made in America. If you want to really want compare apples to oranges: 3000Watts Digital Peak Power = 200/300 True sine wave RMS WATTS compared to how a Class A/B Amplifiers perform on the job.
Bose is a league of its own when it comes to portable PA speakers. They sound better than RCF and QSC, a breeze to setup, and they are also lightweight. F1s for medium and large venues, L1 compacts for small venues, and S1 pros for wedding ceremonies or tiny ass venues.
Glad to hear you stuck with the JBL. Great speakers. With today's technology, almost ANY of the name brand speakers are loud enough to do medium sized gigs, so I worry about sound quality vs watts (or even SPL). It's rare that we ever run at max power.
I choose the ETX 12p over the JBL due to my personal preferences and I thought the EV’s had a little more clarity at higher volume. But it’s all about personal preference and what you’re using them for
Sam Santandera I agree I spent a hour deciding which speakers to get. EV or JBL, after hearing a clearer sound for several songs I went EV etx line, I got 6 mains 12in. And 2 18in. Subs .i've DJed outdoor events and bands played live with my set up for 600 to 900 people , sounded great, I think I was pushing them really hard but 4 to 5 years later and tons of compliments on how great it sounds from wedding's, partys and running sound for bands with them. I think I picked a great brand. My opinion tho
no. they are simply outdated, DSP wise and driver wise. QSC isn't really that good in the pro audio community but i definitely like their cinema series.
RCF smoke everything else other than Danley, Function One, Void, etc. Unbelievably clean and clear sounding. Like a HiFi kind of sound. QSC seem to be the gold standard but imo they have a really, really harsh high end to me. After about an hour at a rave my ears are tired from that. My .02
Greetings from England Hi Rick I love your advice, but bro to say QSC K2, is only intermediate is insane man... I run 4 x k2/12 4 x k-subs. These are by far the best speakers I've EVER used.. And that's in 40 yrs a mobile...
You can always combine speakers to make them louder. But I am talking 1 to 1 speaker match ups. The k12.2 doesn't have the output or bigger factor vocal clarity that the pro line speaker I listed have. A to B them and you will notice a difference
Yes! RMS/Continuous is what counts in real world use. The claims of 1000 watts or more are based on Peak, meaning that the speaker can handle a few sharp hits, some can only handle one sharp hit - say, from a Microphone feedback or accidental pop from interference during connection. 1000 watts usually translates to only 200 to 300 watts of good clean clear sound, anything beyond that is distortion or muddy sound. Plus, most P.A. active/powered systems can get really hot if pushed beyond heir limits, causing that distortion or muddy sound. There is a reason why most big concerts in huge stadiums still use S.R. (Sound Reinforcement) Systems or passive speakers (Crossovers, Equalizers, Separate Amps, etc.) instead of Active or Powered speakers. Powered speakers have come a long way, but don't let them fool you with those plastic cabinets and unrealistic Watts ratings. Heavier cabinets that have real wood can offer better acoustics, there is a reason those bass bottom subwoofers feel so heavy. Another thing to consider is the decibel levels and speaker placement.
I have just purchased Mackie a pair of DRM 215s. I totally recommend you guys. I am also using their studio monitors (HR824) and they are flat and clear. It is perfect for music production.
@@fordmondeo3320 Yes, I compared EV, JBL, Bose and QSC. I can say that all of them sounded amazing however, Mackie sounded more flat to me, as well as QSC speakers. The reason that I have chosen Mackie is because it's price-performance. They were on Labor Day sale and I had a good deal. Besides that I have been using Mackie studio monitors that never made any problem for more that ten years. I trust the brand. If you are look for flat sound, you can also go for QSC speakers but you will definitely need a sub. I think they produce max 12'. If you have more questions, let me know.
Amen Once Again, good insight JBL gets a bad rep sometimes due to brand addicts. I only buy what works for my events, I'm not worried about anybody else concert certified recommendations. Thanks for keeping it real!!!
Great video 👍 I heard your comments on the column array at the end, different type of speaker, looks great for weddings! I'm from the UK and went for the Turbosound Ip3000. They are powerful and sound great.
I've got a set of RCF HD 12-A MK4 - 12" 2-Ways & a set of RCF 708-AS II Subs that'll out perform all of the mentioned "Top Powered Speakers" but like you said you haven't experienced RCF yet.
Best Active Powered Speakers by BRAND: 1.) QSC, 2.) EV (Electro-Voice), 3.) RCF, 4.) JBL, 5.) Cerwin-Vega!, 6.) Mackie, 7.) BOSE, 8.) Yamaha, 9.) Peavey, 10.) Behringer with a notable mention to Rockville. I personally own JBL (EON612), Mackie (Thump 12), and Cerwin-Vega! (P1500x and P1000x - Pair of each) for Subwoofers I use Cerwin-Vega! (CVA-15 and CVA-18 Pair of each). I find myself using the Cerwin Vegas more often, since the sound is so clear, clean and the bass is amazing. I know that QSC and EV's are more popular but they lack the power that I need.
I can personally say that the new Turbosound speakers are pretty good, but as you said they're not as popular, I've worked with the JBL SRX, PRX, VTX and VRX, Turbosound Milan and IQ, QSC KW, Yamaha DXR and DSR, EV ZLX, EKX and ETX series speakers (and also some JBL AE stuff a little while ago) and all of them are great speakers, but I have to say that JBL, QSC and Turbosound own my heart, from price, to SPL, to clarity of sound, to DSP, to weight, to repair and servicing(especially) they've just been the best to me (I am from South Africa)
Nhut Phan The IQ series is better, because of the better DSP, but I would say that the only thing that would determine whether they are better than the Milans would bet the price you. (But the Milans are not in any way bad speakers)
My two cents just from experience - Sound wise - Highs and Mids are better handled by smaller speakers 8inch- 10inch. The bose l1 compact has small approx 2- inch driver speakers and an 8inch bass speaker so good to get the higher fidelity range. The 15inch speaker size is an ideal sub for that bottom end punch and the 18inches are for that very low boom so not that needed in most cases. I now use 2 x 8inch speaker ( for mids and highs ) tops on poles 1 x 15inch sub ( for punchy bass for dance floor) and and a bose l1 compact for ceremony and monitor speaker/ to fill in the sound gaps for reception. I think you need a range of different sized quality speakers to produce a great sound. Just from my experience popularity doesn't necessarily mean better. I bought the Bose L1 model 1 also however would not really recommend them for the dancefloor/DJ. DJ wise - you need portable ,( can you lift the thing/wheels) no more than 30-40 kg durable, aesthetic/cable tidy, balance sound - to cover situations like ceremony and and dancing. Loud ain't everything so RMS is probably over stated.
You should really invest in The Yorkville PS15P, it's is by far by a long shot the most powerful of the speakers you mentioned I've used them in EVENTS of 600- 800 people and these speakers kick hard with never hitting the limiter while playing hip-hop music. The 4400 watts of peak power really give you alot of headroom, it's active 1400 watts
As long as they are used in conjunction with subs, those little DSR112s are killer boxes. 2'' VC compression driver can really dish out the top end. Loudest 12" I've reviewed personally. Great combo with the DXS18s
Yep you know what you are talking about.... pair mine with some EV subs though easier to carry - in my opinion and I dont know what you think but the old wood cab Yamaha DSR 12s are much better than the new plastic ones with all the dsp rubbish on. I say this for two reasons the sound resonates better in a wood cab and they are easier and less prone to damage on the road and when used in monitor config.
For Australia the popular brands are, RCF Speakers, Nexo, DB Audio, AT Professional, Turbo Sound, QSC, EV X Array, L Acoustics, Dynacord, JBL, Adamson Speakers
@@djilyaz Nexo are another level and yamaha are engineered by nexo ...thats why I got mine ...best 'just about' portable speakers on the market - especially the older wood cab ones they spank the ones Rick mentions.
Jimmy Spin Exactly what Kris said. There is a lot of controversy of how companies are measuring SPL and Watts. So it makes it really hard to compare different brand solely on numbers. On a general note you could argue that you're only paying for output (SPL) if you compare speakers from the same manufacturer: e.g. the EV EKX and ETX are very similar in terms of sound quality. But the ETX goes a bit louder. For subwoofers this can be interesting: why go for a very very expensive subwoofer that goes a bit louder. Or just go for 2 that will only cost 2/3 of one expensive sub, with similar output.
SPL is usually measured at 1 metre but that's not a good way to measure all these new column arrays that are hitting the market cause their sound doesn't develop till you are several metres away due to the number of speakers in them.
DJ Rick Web Just my two cents (one year later from the original video post) i agree with you on the rankings (even here in Canada) i shopped for my speakers in 2016 and hesitated between the JBL and the QSC finaly deciding on the QSC KW serie due to their response with my music of choice (house and techno). I also tested the FBT as a friend of mine owns some and they're pretty good too. The EV and YORKVILLE ones did sound as powerfull but lacked in detail and transparency and i didn't like them as much as the others i've tested. I do dj, music production and mixdown / mastering for a living for years now so the views i express while certainly well informed apply mostly to the kind of music i play and produce (house and techno) and it might differ from someone playing other genres (pop or country music for example). I realy appreciate your videos and i'm happy to see that your channel grow. Keep it up!! ;)
Great review Rick, just curious why you didn't list Yamaha DXR range for intermediate, DSR for pro range. I believe Yamaha are easily available in the US.
I also run the DXR10 tops with DXS 15 subs and they sound amazing. For the price point and a 7 year warranty from Yamaha, its hard to beat em. Only complaint is the DXS15 subs are 87 pounds a piece but then again, they are made from wood enclosures so to me, its worth it.
Bruh ...... I have to apologize to you homie ....... I just got 2 828sp Jbl and bruh what a mind changer ........ lol ...... you are so rite the srx series speaker is way!!!!!!!!!!!!!! More everything ,you name it is it
Yorkville tops and QSC Subs absolutely love the sound and the portability. Run my QSC ks112 in a cardioid pattern. 1 sub faces front 1 sub faces rear with a small delay. Amazing sound. This video is a little old and QSC now has a 3600 Watt peak KS 118 that I hear rattles every bone in your body. But it's definitely not very portable
Nice review. The only number that matters as far as power is concerned is the db SPL. Peak power is pointless, RMS is better but SPL tells you how loud they go. Also try and look for continuous SPL not max. 40 years playing to big crowds and screaming kids and I will only use RCF night after night, never a problem and you can clip them to death and they will still come back fighting. Just my preference.
My Brother DJ Rick Web. Great video and great advice. I am looking at purchasing one of two types of powered speakers, the JBL PRX series and the QSC k series but leaning more torwards the JBL's. I am in the Wheeling Wv. area and most Pro DJ's around here are using the QSC or Mackie. I like to stand alone and be different which is another reason why I am leaning torwards the JBL's. I know, I might sound like a cheap DJ or non-professional DJ to some other DJs but I am currently using 2 Bose L1 series and I absolutely love them, I have neverhad any problems with them performing. They always deliver a crisp clean sound, They are light weight and very easy & quick to setup. I have used them for local swimming pool parties, weddings, proms and graduation parties and I have got a lot of positive feedback from every gig. Though I never had an oppurtunity to do a wedding of 250+. I think that being said you might want to consider them as Pro intermmediate level. The only reason I am buying new speakers is because in case I do get a wedding of 250+ wedding, I will enough sound coverage without a doubt and also to offer to my customers a $200 ceremony package using the Bose L1 serious. What do you think?
+James Dietrich first off whats up I have gone to wheeling for a few weddings now. There is nothing wrong with the L1s I just think for the money you can get way better. That said they do there job of sound dispersing very well amd are good for weddings up to 175 in my opnion. If no one is using JBL I would look into it. Better sound quality then mackie. About equal to qsc but jbl is a little cheaper. You will really like jbl when you get there subs. They hit way lower then qsc. If you want hit me up I work for a JBL dealer can get you some cheap prices.
I agree anymore than 175 people I need JBL's. I appreciate the offer and will definitly hit you up when I have the money to get the JBL's unless they can work out somekind of payment plan, also when you get back to the Buckeye State!!!!! LOL Ealrier this year another DJ and I did a wedding and we had Theo's Catering there and I had talked to a few of the staff that remembered you. They spoke very highly of you and miss you. I told them that I watch all your videos. You and I will have to meet in person sometime since we don't live that far away from each other.
Imo you should have bought the 12 inch version of the SRX. This is because they reproduce vocals more clearly. You also have existing subs you can use them with so the additional bass gained by using a 15 is made redundant.
Can you do a video about how to mix songs that you might use for a wedding reception on Virtual DJ and Serato? And how to use a dj mixer for mixing the songs?
Good video, I've had really good luck with the JBL Eons 515xt and now the EV ZLX. I know the low end, but they are tuned right and I use good sound quality music. I've been DJing at events and get told how great it sounds. By the the JBL 515XT is better than the JBL EONS 615.
Hey man, good morning greetings from Cabo San Lucas México, I love your Videos, I have a question for you.... What do you think about the bose L1 Compact???
Celebration Time hello, I’m curious as to what your decision was? I know it’s been awhile since you posted this question. I’ve owned two l1 compacts and they’re great for ceremonies, cocktail area or small parties but that’s it. For about the same price of you negotiate you can get the RCF EVOX 5 which is a 10” woofer but it plays MUCH bigger then it is. I’ve given my l1 compacts to my nephew who does house parties and I’ve bought a set of Evox 5’s and a set of Evox 8’s. I’ve used the Evox 5’s more the the Evox 8’s. I’m more then happy with my purchase. NOW, if you’re just starting out but have the funds I say go with the Evox 8’s that way you’re not limiting your gigs.
Backing you up here Rick with some science of RMS vs Max power. Wattage is how much power the amp produces and yes RMS is a better amp rating. Decibels are the right way to rate a speaker. the ear hears on a logarithmic scale and also the smallest smallest change in loudness an ear can detect is 1 dB. Double the power gives 3 dB, this is what we perceive as turning up a notch for a noticable difference the same effect as adding a second speaker. A speaker is rated from having 1 watt into the speaker and at 1metre away (40 inches away) the DB meter is placed and measures the dB sensitivity. As an example, if the driver is made well it will be efficient and have a stiff and short excursion cone and say it gives 100 dB at one watt. a second speaker has a large surround and big excursion usually it is less efficient (Car sub style) and say it gives 90 dB at one watt. 10 dB apart. Double the loudness is 10 dB and that is 10 times the power output of the amp at the starting level. example of car speaker 1watt=90 dB 2watt=93 dB 4watt=96 dB 8watt=99 dB 2 times the original 1 watt power we started with will bring it up 1 db to 10 watts which is 10 dB above the start value and 10 times the power of the first power lever used. This is where the Pro audio or hi fi speaker starts 16watt=102 db 32watt=105 dB 64watt=108 db 2x the original level of 8 watts is 16 watts and brings up the power to 80 watts and 109 dB 10 times the power of the original 8 watts 128watt=111 db 256watt= 114 dB 512watt=117 dB 2 x original wattage of 64 watts is 128 added to 512 which is 640 watts at 118 dB which is 10 times the 64 watt start power 10 dB lower 1024watt=120 dB so the higher the wattage a good speaker can pout out the dB but if a manufacturer doesnt show the dB rating it is because they cant hit the pro level output fo that speaker. 130 dB or better is a pro level SPL and has a tru RMS amp. RMS is sustained power and DB output Max is what it may hit with transients but is again only 3dB every so often so is turned up a notch every so often and not really a big difference
Over here in the uk im running IMG Stageline 15" tops, the part number for them are PAB-15P There not very common as far as i know, there part of the brand Monacor if you heard of them? The stock subwoofers that come in the box arent very good, i blew a pair playing Faithless-insomnia, with a very matched amplifier But i changed the subwoofers for Eminence 500 watt subwoofers The actual cabinets are very durable, there wooden cabinets, old style rectangular cube shaped, they have good carry handles on them, and they have enough volume to produce good bass, and the horns are excellent, the horns have never let me down There passive speakers, so they have a 1/4 inch jack in the back, and bare wire spring/clamp connectors Since buying them i have fitted Speakon connectors to them, and there up to todays standards I have never had them on stands, i have never been able to afford stands for them, and there way too heavy to lift on to stands anyway, but even stood on the floor they push the music through the crowd I have done weddings in massive hotel function rooms, at large village halls, small bars packed with people, and everyones been able to hear me, even did a disco at a venue that caters for live bands with a massive auditorium, that was cool So yeah, like i mentioned on a previous post, there gonna become carnival speakers, i have registered a business as a travelling showman, im building my first ride as we speak ready for next summer, and those speakers and amplifiers are gonna join the carnival, when i was doing discos i only ever had 2 of them, but now i have 8 Im undecided whether to buy 18" subwoofers or not, i think with 8 15's round the platform it will be loud enough
most retailers are saying November-January is when things will be coming back. meaning every damn thing except RCFs are made in China, so that may also be a guideline on your choice of builds
that's another (sarcasm) reason why capitalism works so well, corporations don't care where its made, as long as its done cheaply no matter where. Yay for capitalism
Hi DJ Rick, good day to you..I’m from the Phil. Can you pls.include the prices on JBL speakers 15 mid high ang 18sub speakers Including thier respecte amps.thanks a lot & God bless to you..
OK Rick, after studying this video as well as my homework, I'm considering this setup: 2 -JBL SRX 815P & 1- SRX 828P (Dual 18s). To cover 150-200 ppl small venue (without sub) the 815s ( so I'll have enough bass to cover). For 300 - 500 ppl I bring the 828 sub. Which I hope can cover my bass needs when positioned correctly. When traveling alone, I can fit in my SUV (Durango) with my Prime 4 controller & Dbx driverack PA2. I'm curious as to what do you think. Thx in advance for your reply. PS. I'm also considering lighting and a trailer. But that's way later.
Nice video, three popular brands I can think ok off the top of my mind here in the states... I'm using the fairly new Peavey DM115 Mains and have had pretty good luck with them. I run them with a Mackie Thump 18s that I love the sound it produces. So with those 2 brands down could you guess that the third I'd throw out would be Yamaha. Have read great reviews on them and respect the brand. I went with the Peavey DM Series after much reading and research and was able to get a steal of a deal on them brand new as they wanted to move them after a less than anticipated response to the release date kept seeming to get knocked back and a lack of push from Peavey after the release.
As many have mentionned, Yamaha and Yorkville should be in there, or rename the video The top DJ speakers I've used lol. The JBL PRX are good boxes, but I've always found them a little too forward in the midrange overall. Good for getting vocals out there I guess, but I prefer a smoother ear pleasing sound. Yamaha DXR15s or DSR115s Or Yorkville Parasource 12s or 15s are excellent in that regard. RCF also has some amzing sounding products other than Evox. Good videos, keep it up.
The Yamaha data look great but for less money you can get the alto 315s with a higher spl and wattage..... The only thing Yamaha have is they name drop alto
hey where did you put some EAW speakers , i mean it is probably the the best company ever since 25 years . they make the jf56NT wich is impressive ! well they cost 6K each but they are impressive.
Ok i hope you can answer this when you do have time. I know your busy. Been following you for along time and know your a fan of the jbl speaker line. Just 3 questions. Is there a big difference between 15" to 18" subs? Jbl 618s vs jbl prx418s. Which do u prefer? Jbl vs ev elx118. I trust your judgement. Been djing for 3 years now (mobile) now im looking for something more top shelf vs when i started something that just got me started. Thanks so much for your feedback.
Because watts don't mean anything I looked for the DSP or DSPL ratting. And if its at 1 meter away? That tells you more of the output it can produce. Now remember a cheap off brand speaker can have a high output DSPL but would it sound good is the question. That's when picking your brand is your own preference. What sounds good to you might not be the same for others. And what music you play mostly is a factor in making that choice.
Hey the big deference between the int. And pro , is the drivers inside . Both EV and JBL on your pro list have bigger more advanced and quality woofers and compression drivers. Yes a little more amp power as well , and great explanation between peak and rms
I use peavey dm 112 series there really good speakers don't have a mixer board yet thinking of getting a pioneer ddj sb 2 is that good for beginners thanks
Thank you Rick for this nice video :) I need your advice, I'm searching for whole speakers set for a big outdoor event , I don't need few speakers with top power (high watt) I'm searching for high no. of speakers with low watt , so sound can be distributed & clear anywhere. Which speaker model & optimum watt do you recommend if I'm planning to have 24 speakers ?
Great vid man. Coming from a live sound perspective, nothing beats RCF. Especially their TT and NX series. It's a whole other ball game than JBL, EV, and QSC. A pair RCF nx series can do a crowd up to 800 easily. Alot of what you mentioned in the video you compared by watts, but we should really be comparing their SPL.
Yeah their tour lines are really good compared to the pro level mobile speakers from other companies. But in the tour category those RCFs are like mod tier. L acoustics, nexo, martin, void and others dominate the tour level.
am confused about QSC KW QSC K.2 , RCF , Yamaha DZR i have a big Room and we play live music drums and violin guitar singing what u prefer i want clear sound and by the way the room is for party live music performance and i have alot of guests friends and others maybe from 70 to 80 persons
As far as top powered speaker's go the Chinese manufacturers that make these can make a" Rick Webb Signature" Speaker Line rather easily. This is about marketing now days. All of these new high tech speakers sound great. Some sound inherently different but still good.
All of these speakers , are mostly entry level , the intermediate speakers are the ones that you've just mentioned , but never had , or presented ( RCF , FBT , Montarbo ) . If you want to mention some Pro ones , what about Meyer Sound , or the Funktion one (with xta amp modules ) , RCF TT series , KV2 or Fohhn !! The QSC K.2 just have 2 ohm celestion made in china woofers , to squeeze just a bit more output from the same amplifier !!
Fohhn probably the best I have heard, used by a local company, but which small mobile dj can afford those things, top professional gear at top pro prices, for mobile dj's for the money RCF is difficult to beat, great sound, won't wreck you wallet or back ;-)
Let me say that EV / DYNACORD / QSC Is popular around EUROPE but when it comes the dj gathering or club meetings 300+ people around the VOID music system is far away in crisp sound quality power and endurance , Function one is also popular but not as good as VOID , the last are the ones (those are the ones that are working for the public @ UNTOLD ) . I also have to mention the Outline co from ITALY wich are producing very good dj speakers .
Nice review keep it up and I herd the fbt dj 15a it's a beast 400watts rms it sounds and hits harder then any 15inch I've heard yet I was blown away to bad not a lot of places don't demo or carry rcf or fbt am in NYC Brooklyn b&h photo shop has them available not sure if they demo I've herd them n the Bronx n a local store hey get the dual 18 jbl man you'll be set ✌🏻
Had a pair of EV ZLX12 (active) I've never had a speaker blow more then 4 times in a span of 1month. Sold those and got myself a pair of Wharfedale Pro EVP-X15 and a pair of JBL EON 15G2
They're just a shit box, I've turned a few people away from those boxes, they're just good for being used as door stops lol. Those aren't the boxes i'd take to a high end jobs, especially when we do corporate work, not good. 2 months of having them, i sold them and got myself better sounding speakers. ZLX are the cheap range of speakers from EV, wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
I've heard them (zlx12p) at various gigs, and they sounded pretty good, it's a toss up now between the zlx12p and Yamaha dbr12, same weight, Yamaha is slightly more expensive.
DJ Rick Web
So what if u don't want to use subs what's the best speaker to use?
I use my srx 815ps personally.
HI,I want to ask which voice is better, QSCK.2, BOSE F1, JBL PRX, RCF NX.
EVs are the Real Deal very powerful with a clean crisp sound. I recommend EVs to anyone that is wanting to buy them.
Danny Romano I agree
Also EV make truss adapters for the EKX / ETX Series and the ETX has drivers that EV & Dynacord used in there touring speakers and line arrays.
@@matthewvaladez8209 Best advice I can give you. Find a place where you can compare them.
Im not that much about dj im more about sound and thats why i have some experiences, but all those were just my opinions about different speakers and what i think of them
I run Yorkville PS12P with two yorkville 15” subs. Good powered speaker in Canada.
The k subs still to this day are quite impressive for size to output
Hello, pauluz, do you have fase issues when adding subs to the evox system?
Speaking the truth earned my respect. Never compromise that. The truth is your credibility.
+Mike Sanders thats probably tge most popular combination of speakers out there. Lol. Great punch and sound output.
I run the same thing and have done parties that size and even larger with no problems. Many of these brands have the speaker you need. A lot is personal preference and the sound it produces.
Totally agree with QSC ! It’s worth!
I would like to hear the new Cerwin Vega line. I have 6 of their home stereo speakers from the 70s and 80s I really like them they held up well to.
I can assure you that the RCF EVOX 12s and 8s are legit and professional speaker systems. 👍
Turbsound sounds amazing RCF sounds even better
Bose is a league of its own when it comes to portable PA speakers. They sound better than RCF and QSC, a breeze to setup, and they are also lightweight. F1s for medium and large venues, L1 compacts for small venues, and S1 pros for wedding ceremonies or tiny ass venues.
RCF has some clips of 1/4 mi gathering attention.
@@davidperry4013 If Bose sounds better to you than RCF, I suggest you check your hearing. Also, everything sounds better than QSC.
@@DestroyerOfLiberastsTotally in agreement! 😂😂😂
Dj ARI-G I live and Dj in Italy. The MACHIE THUMP PA 1000 watts speakers are not to be left out too, it's popular in Italy with musicians and DJs.
I run Yorkville PS12P too with subs.. an absolute beast, much better than Ev or JBL... If you want pro stuff, start there and go up (EAW, Meyer, etc)
Glad to hear you stuck with the JBL. Great speakers.
With today's technology, almost ANY of the name brand speakers are loud enough to do medium sized gigs, so I worry about sound quality vs watts (or even SPL). It's rare that we ever run at max power.
+DayNNyteDJs I agree with you. I always tell people the best thing to do when it comes to speakers is to go listen to them your self
QSC Is definitely Pro Audio bro!
kalvin1916 I agree.
Same here QSC is a premium
All about QSC. Two KW 181s and two K12s cover outside with no problem. Inside I have to be careful not to crush anyone! 😜
no. they are simply outdated, DSP wise and driver wise. QSC isn't really that good in the pro audio community but i definitely like their cinema series.
Try rcf very good speaker i have the rcf art312 and the rcf art912 best speaker ever
My .02
I can't stand all of the earlier QSC lines at all, except for the new LA series. I believe QSC has something to offer now with these.
Greetings from England
Hi Rick I love your advice, but bro to say QSC K2, is only intermediate is insane man... I run
4 x k2/12
4 x k-subs.
@@DJRickWeb what do you mean when you say A to B them? Do tell in detail or make a video. THANKS
A to b or head to head test
The 2-in-1 array-type systems in recent years have really blown my socks off.
Peak Power doesn't mean much in actual audio output its all about Watts RMS rating.
exactly
He does say that a bunch of times....
it's all about SPL i'm affraid !!
I have just purchased Mackie a pair of DRM 215s. I totally recommend you guys. I am also using their studio monitors (HR824) and they are flat and clear. It is perfect for music production.
did you compare it with other brands like that SRX815 or ETX15 ? , cause reading that these MAckies are good , but I never heard them
@@fordmondeo3320 Yes, I compared EV, JBL, Bose and QSC.
+James P that was the whole point of this video. Keep it real and recognize all the great brands out there
Great video 👍 I heard your comments on the column array at the end, different type of speaker, looks great for weddings! I'm from the UK and went for the Turbosound Ip3000. They are powerful and sound great.
I've got a set of RCF HD 12-A MK4 - 12" 2-Ways & a set of RCF 708-AS II Subs that'll out perform all of the mentioned "Top Powered Speakers" but like you said you haven't experienced RCF yet.
never seen these but my Yorkville 801;s use RCF drivers and I think they kick
What about the new BOSE line?
Marco Casarrubias lol
Marco Casarrubias lol, qsc are chinese speakers! Made in china
Alto?
Bollocks...
I can personally say that the new Turbosound speakers are pretty good, but as you said they're not as popular, I've worked with the JBL SRX, PRX, VTX and VRX, Turbosound Milan and IQ, QSC KW, Yamaha DXR and DSR, EV ZLX, EKX and ETX series speakers (and also some JBL AE stuff a little while ago) and all of them are great speakers, but I have to say that JBL, QSC and Turbosound own my heart, from price, to SPL, to clarity of sound, to DSP, to weight, to repair and servicing(especially) they've just been the best to me (I am from South Africa)
great insight
Hennie Wagner how is Milan speaker? Is it as good as the Iq? Thanks
Nhut Phan The IQ series is better, because of the better DSP, but I would say that the only thing that would determine whether they are better than the Milans would bet the price you. (But the Milans are not in any way bad speakers)
How much are the vtx? I also live in S.A. and the economy is bad bra and I would like to know how expensive are those
+Regomoditswe Masilo etx?
The first order of anyone's DJ business regarding sound quality is to have all your MP3's High Definition, 320kbps not 128
crap that... waves & AIFF / lossles files
thats how you do the job
You forgot flac files are the best
FYI: @@alexnadeau8019 flac &/ alac = lossless files.greetings from bali
Great tip man I do not pay attention to peak man I look for RMS
You should really invest in The Yorkville PS15P, it's is by far by a long shot the most powerful of the speakers you mentioned I've used them in EVENTS of 600- 800 people and these speakers kick hard with never hitting the limiter while playing hip-hop music. The 4400 watts of peak power really give you alot of headroom, it's active 1400 watts
You should listen to the Yamaha DSR line. Loud and clear. Pair the with the DXS18.
+Kim Carlsson I heard them once but it was over a year ago now. No one in my area has them so dont know what they sound like
As long as they are used in conjunction with subs, those little DSR112s are killer boxes.
I have a pair of the rcf 12inches they sound amazing great bass
For Australia the popular brands are, RCF Speakers, Nexo, DB Audio, AT Professional, Turbo Sound, QSC, EV X Array, L Acoustics, Dynacord, JBL, Adamson Speakers
+Brandon Tan I want to here some high end nexo's heard great things
Nexo's are amazing. I'd grab myself a pair if i had the money, but they do come at a price point. definitely worth checking out
Brandon Tan You do know that dynacord and Ev are both owned by Bosch right,
Yamaha owns Nexo, and yes they kick.
@@djilyaz Nexo are another level and yamaha are engineered by nexo ...thats why I got mine ...best 'just about' portable speakers on the market - especially the older wood cab ones they spank the ones Rick mentions.
3 Letters... SPL that's how to truly rate a speaker... 120db and higher
+Jimmy Spin very true
Yeah, if you couple them together, it boosts their spl.
Yup, I agree this is a better method generally but sadly there are as many ways to inflate SPL measurements as there are ways to inflate watts.
SPL is usually measured at 1 metre but that's not a good way to measure all these new column arrays that are hitting the market cause their sound doesn't develop till you are several metres away due to the number of speakers in them.
QSC are my favorite those never fail and they throw a punch but expensive...
Dynacord FE 15.3 with Electro Voice T18 Sub are best :D I Like The clear sound with clear bass
The ETX also has more wood in the cabinet compared to the EKX.
RCF all day! They are the loudest things ever! Specifically 932, 935, 945
Keep it up!! ;)
Wow. I didnt even realize this was made over a year ago now..... I need to update it since I have gained more experience with other companies now
DJ Rick Web Whats the best bang for the buck powered speaker with great low end bass.
Get a 3 way speaker.
DJ Rick Web which ones do you recommend?
DJ Rick Web I want something for indoor/backyard parties. That has good bass for around $300
Great review Rick, just curious why you didn't list Yamaha DXR range for intermediate, DSR for pro range. I believe Yamaha are easily available in the US.
+leds hex not popular in my area of america and have on heard a pair of dsrs once
Yes i own a pair of DXR and DXS Yamaha and they sound great!plus 7 Year Warranty!
Awesome video! Fantastic information, especially the peak & rms values, even within the same brands!
So what’s the best speakers for church
+ewsclass66 I plan on using just the srx 15s for a majority of my weddings now. Trying to cut down on stuff needed for an event
Ah right yeah 15s perform better than 12s without subs by far.
Great info... I love EVs probably my favorites...
This is 5yrs old can you please do a updated 2022 please
Already did. Its the choosing the right speakers video
Once again, great video! Getting the SRX series speakers. Beasts!
Thanks for the video. Which are the lightest powered speakers do you recommend?
Qsc k12.2 if you want light with good output
Awesome ... tnx DJ Rick Web
I'm not a DJ I wouldn't mind hearing some opinions on powered speakers to be used for a piano keyboard that has accompaniment. Great video for DJ's.
I really am not sure based on the output needs of the sound system. A good 12inch top is always a great buy
Can you do a video about how to mix songs that you might use for a wedding reception on Virtual DJ and Serato? And how to use a dj mixer for mixing the songs?
+Jeff Washington maybe. That is a technical video and more than likely would use copy right music....
Good video, I've had really good luck with the JBL Eons 515xt and now the EV ZLX. I know the low end, but they are tuned right and I use good sound quality music. I've been DJing at events and get told how great it sounds. By the the JBL 515XT is better than the JBL EONS 615.
For me the XTs are still the best sounding speakers out there. Definitely as good as the prx815s.
Hello, love your videos. Have you done any gigs with the Yamaha dxr12 mkii speakers?
Not myself.
what is the sound difference between these speakers ? that would be nice to know
Hey man, good morning greetings from Cabo San Lucas México, I love your Videos, I have a question for you.... What do you think about the bose L1 Compact???
Not a fan. Too much money for not a lot of speaker.
EV ZLX great sound!
Two ekx 15 tops, one cerwin vega 21 inch stroker sub kicks ass.
I love my Mackie Thump 15s for personal use. 🇺🇸
I’m looking for a 12 top and 18 bottom which brand sounds the best...
@@mchild1983 I would use a Behringer for the crystal clear top and any 18 Subwoofer of your choice. The behringer top is ear piecingly loud and clear
Double the loudness is 10 dB and that is 10 times the power output of the amp at the starting level.
example of car speaker
1watt=90 dB
2watt=93 dB
4watt=96 dB
8watt=99 dB 2 times the original 1 watt power we started with will bring it up 1 db to 10 watts which is 10 dB above the start value and 10 times the power of the first power lever used. This is where the Pro audio or hi fi speaker starts
16watt=102 db
32watt=105 dB
64watt=108 db 2x the original level of 8 watts is 16 watts and brings up the power to 80 watts and 109 dB 10 times the power of the original 8 watts
128watt=111 db
256watt= 114 dB
512watt=117 dB 2 x original wattage of 64 watts is 128 added to 512 which is 640 watts at 118 dB which is 10 times the 64 watt start power 10 dB lower
1024watt=120 dB
so the higher the wattage a good speaker can pout out the dB but if a manufacturer doesnt show the dB rating it is because they cant hit the pro level output fo that speaker. 130 dB or better is a pro level SPL and has a tru RMS amp.
RMS is sustained power and DB output
Max is what it may hit with transients but is again only 3dB every so often so is turned up a notch every so often and not really a big difference
can you make a video on subwoofers and what you would recommend for a beginner intermediate and pro level line up
+_KaiCooper_ got ya.
Over here in the uk im running IMG Stageline 15" tops, the part number for them are PAB-15P
There not very common as far as i know, there part of the brand Monacor if you heard of them?
The stock subwoofers that come in the box arent very good, i blew a pair playing Faithless-insomnia, with a very matched amplifier
But i changed the subwoofers for Eminence 500 watt subwoofers
The actual cabinets are very durable, there wooden cabinets, old style rectangular cube shaped, they have good carry handles on them, and they have enough volume to produce good bass, and the horns are excellent, the horns have never let me down
There passive speakers, so they have a 1/4 inch jack in the back, and bare wire spring/clamp connectors
Since buying them i have fitted Speakon connectors to them, and there up to todays standards
I have never had them on stands, i have never been able to afford stands for them, and there way too heavy to lift on to stands anyway, but even stood on the floor they push the music through the crowd
I have done weddings in massive hotel function rooms, at large village halls, small bars packed with people, and everyones been able to hear me, even did a disco at a venue that caters for live bands with a massive auditorium, that was cool
So yeah, like i mentioned on a previous post, there gonna become carnival speakers, i have registered a business as a travelling showman, im building my first ride as we speak ready for next summer, and those speakers and amplifiers are gonna join the carnival, when i was doing discos i only ever had 2 of them, but now i have 8
Im undecided whether to buy 18" subwoofers or not, i think with 8 15's round the platform it will be loud enough
Great video. We are looking to move up from JBL, QSC and the like to much more “audiophile grade”. do you have any suggestions?
Rcf
QSC and EV are very good sounds!!!
It’s so hard to find and decent speakers in stock these days, gotta order everything
most retailers are saying November-January is when things will be coming back. meaning every damn thing except RCFs are made in China, so that may also be a guideline on your choice of builds
that's another (sarcasm) reason why capitalism works so well, corporations don't care where its made, as long as its done cheaply no matter where. Yay for capitalism
Hi from the Philippines Dj rick. Im planning to buy jbl prx815 what sub should i buy? Or do i need one? Sorry not fluent in english.
At first you dont need on but prx818xlf pairs well
EV ETX is the truth!! That shit is amazing!
Hi DJ Rick, good day to you..I’m from the Phil. Can you pls.include the prices on JBL speakers 15 mid high ang 18sub speakers
Including thier respecte amps.thanks a lot & God bless to you..
Hi great vid!
I want to ask what's your opinion :
Ev etx 18sp ?
Or qsc ks118?
Thanks
Etx
OK Rick, after studying this video as well as my homework, I'm considering this setup:
2 -JBL SRX 815P & 1- SRX 828P (Dual 18s).
I dont have any experience with Yorkville tops, but their 21" sub is AMAZING.
The Yamaha data look great but for less money you can get the alto 315s with a higher spl and wattage..... The only thing Yamaha have is they name drop alto
I'm suprised the K.2s weren't considered pro level speakers, but great video it helped a lot!
+DJ Bubzz thanks
Great vid thanks for your opinion on these speakers.
Thank you!! Helped a lot! and ALTO is Popular in England
what do you think about alto? i think im going to buy the ts15
And Mackie
hey where did you put some EAW speakers , i mean it is probably the the best company ever since 25 years . they make the jf56NT wich is impressive ! well they cost 6K each but they are impressive.
would the yamaha DXR 15' be better for electronic music like house or techno than the ones u mentioned? 10x
Idk
Ok i hope you can answer this when you do have time. I know your busy. Been following you for along time and know your a fan of the jbl speaker line. Just 3 questions. Is there a big difference between 15" to 18" subs? Jbl 618s vs jbl prx418s. Which do u prefer? Jbl vs ev elx118. I trust your judgement. Been djing for 3 years now (mobile) now im looking for something more top shelf vs when i started something that just got me started. Thanks so much for your feedback.
Yes big difference in sound between 15 and 18. JBL 618s over all you listed
Thank you Rick for this nice video :)
I need your advice, I'm searching for whole speakers set for a big outdoor event , I don't need few speakers with top power (high watt)
I'm searching for high no. of speakers with low watt , so sound can be distributed & clear anywhere. Which speaker model & optimum watt do you recommend if I'm planning to have 24 speakers ?
Not a clue man. Need more details on the application.
You should hear l acoustics gear
Then rcf will sound like a toy to you
Yeah their tour lines are really good compared to the pro level mobile speakers from other companies. But in the tour category those RCFs are like mod tier. L acoustics, nexo, martin, void and others dominate the tour level.
@@DJRickWeb yessir you are right
Honest. Try FBT. They have dual 18”S. Heard them over in the Uk and there up in the pro category especially the DBT mitus system.
am confused about QSC KW QSC K.2 , RCF , Yamaha DZR i have a big Room and we play live music drums and violin guitar singing what u prefer i want clear sound and by the way the room is for party live music performance and i have alot of guests friends and others maybe from 70 to 80 persons
As far as top powered speaker's go the Chinese manufacturers that make these can make a" Rick Webb Signature" Speaker Line rather easily. This is about marketing now days. All of these new high tech speakers sound great. Some sound inherently different but still good.
Yorkville's are great too
Why you did not mention the Mackie SRM ?. Sounds as good as K12.2 plus an internal and external mixer, Bluetooth... etc
They didnt exist when this video was madr
@@DJRickWeb Oh... Ah.. OK.Thanks.
Serious? I was about to get the zlx12p because they are light. I have the eon g2s now.
I have had the same 2 zlx12p for the last 3 years, never had a blow, if you blow them, learn how to use them.
@djilyaz We have the EON G2s and they sound and have lasted much longer then the EV ZLX series.
We've gone with JBLs and RCF Speakers.
I've heard them (zlx12p) at various gigs, and they sounded pretty good, it's a toss up now between the zlx12p and Yamaha dbr12, same weight, Yamaha is slightly more expensive.
Which are better for my garden?
I'm curious about the Barefaced LF1400 active subwoofer - expensive but very light!
ok nice vid thanks got all of the speakers that you said thanks keep on making those videos :)
