I am a fan of these 2 brands all day. But i use the JBL for Subs And EV for tops. I love the clear and deep bass the JBL produces and the clear Vocal the EV gives. Cant go wrong with either of the 2
Hey DJ Ell Ess I have a question for you, I have 4 subs. 2 prx718s and 2 vrx918s. When I play each series by themself they sound great but when I try to play one prx sub with the other 2 vrx subs they sound a bit off. I've realized that when I have them close to one another I need to switch the phase on the prx to 180 and if I have them spaced it sounds louder with the prx on 0 phase. But when doing this, even though it sounds louder, it sounds out of phase to my ears. Do the vrx subs naturally play with reverse phase? And is it a bad idea to mix the subs ? How can I combat this?
solavarria1 top end seemed more open on the ETX but the vocal intelligibility was better on the SRX. Much better around 1k. But I find the ETX to me a little too much mud around 300hz where the SRX was a little cleaner in the low mids. And then finally the ETX was almost a little tubby and had lower bottom end extension.
Yeah I preferred the sound of the SRX (then again I have the SRXs, so I'm biased). The punch isn't a huge issue because I always run subs. I'd love to see a shootout between the SRX818SPs and the ETX18.

For me, the new EV stuff delivers the best value. Not saying it IS the best, the JBL features are outstanding. From the same shop, EV ETX 15P is $1899, JBL SRX815P is $2993. Over $1000 more, 50% more, in Australia
"Both are great speakers. My money is on EV by a slight edge. Your right about the vocal clarity (edge goes to JBL) but I could offset that via the mixers eq. One has to account for their necessities : Do you need the bells and whistles/will you use them. For me, sound systems are works of art; their is a flavor for everyone. I have a specific sound that I search for in 8 thru 18 inch speakers, so diversity in brand systems is very welcoming. In one size I might be searching for a Picasso, in another size a Jackson Pollock. Events would be pretty boring if everyone had the same equipment: It's nice to see & hear different systems at events for sound comparison and style purposes. I must say that I disagree with your choice of music for sound checks. Having records (at least three) incorporated with bass, drums, horns and vocals (each record at a different tempo) playing the same 1 minute from each record for each speaker will give a broader sound quality picture for each speaker. A good example of a slow tempo record for this test is 'Sweet Sticky Thing' by the Ohio Players. All in all, this was a great shootout video; my compliments to you and your crew: Keep up the great work. *One* "
EV virtually opens up horizon that JBl ignores. It unwraps the sound on some tracks you played 🎼 🎵 🎶 But overall they both sound same on some other tracks
Thank you for posting about different gear. The information is very useful. One thing I never hear about when comparing or reviewing gear is about the warranty. When we have two speakers so close in comparison the warranty coverage may help a buyers decision. Thanks again
JBL's for sure. EV ETX are known for clipping especially when pushed hard outdoors. Next time please show the back of the speakers and see who is near clipping and still sounds the best.
One thing to keep in mind is the EV powered boxes "POLE or Tripod" setting is a midbass boost preset. EV shows response curves in the manual for the box. The EV "Live" setting is flat. Also set it for bracket to dump the midbass boost. The bracket setting takes into account the half space placement against a wall mounted on a bracket. I have JBL and Ev. I am a pro and not a DJ. I have been a JBL fanboy since 1978.

@@Tru_Gamer JBL PRX will work fine and they get loud and sound great. SRX is a step above and are excellent. Both models aound great and are made for high output.
@@stuartmcdoniel6226 for FRFR and guitar modelling solutions won't a Coaxial design work better than the JBLs 2-way; sorry I'm really new to this. Thanks
I use the etx because it has an active dsp that is always processing and eqing its self. i know this because when i boost frequencies on the etx especially the subs it doesnt go well, but when i remove frequencies it helps clean it. i own jbls and ive noticed they are flat, when you play a bad file on them youll know its a bad file but when you play a bad file on the etx it'll sound better. SRX is better if you want the best out a speaker and is willing to tune em up. if youre someone like me who doesnt like to spend much time on that and would rather just cut out some harsh frequencies go for the ETX.
Listening to it from my PRX812... JBL professional line are flat, but you have a app to equalize it the way you want... JBL also has more SPL, which will give you more fulled sound room.... so...
EV’s are the shit bro, my buddy has JBL’s and he usually buys a new set every other year, he was so impressed with my EV’s and couldn’t believe I had them for 3 years.
finaly a right comparation, this models ar true rivals, both are with the same spechs, wood, coil size of driver, etc this comparation is very simple, it need more test, more sophisticated to be shure
Last time I went to Guitar center ready to buy a pair of powered 15s JBLs, I asked the salesman to turn on the EVs just out of curiosity, I was amazed at the low end and clarity of the EVs, I bought the EVs and now I moved up to the ETX 15ps 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
custom settings add an unfair advantage which is exactly what they are trying NOT to do in this video. I like the SRX but the RCF will beat it side by side.
Which is exactly why the RCF had an unfair advantage. The RCF comes EQ’d out of the box for more bass, lower mids, and higher highs. If the SRX was EQ’d the same way it’d be a whole lot closer. The SRX comes with a Flat EQ out of the box
I am currently looking to replace my speakers of 4yrs Mackies SRM450. Did some research between JBL vs EV vs QSC vs Alto vs Mackie vs RCF vs Yahama and honestly damn there's just too much info and videos on sound quality. If you can do a video with all these brand side by side with volume and EQ, you'd kill it!
Why doesn't this comment have more likes! I feel like a lot more are defaulting to JBL because of the more recognizable brand name and they could potentially be missing out on some other great options. So this review is definitely needed!
Hi Barr, Thanks for the review. Did you have a chance to lift the ETX 15P by yourself and mounted on the tripod? I own the ETX 12P and looking to buy the the 15 inches. But there isn't a store in my small city I can go and check the weight. I heard there are heavy, but how heavy? I am lifting the ETX 12" by myself without any problems and I heard they were heavy.

When you go in too a shop to demo speakers they are not gonna tune them for you there gonna show you them Flat so that you can make a decision on what they sound like out of the box. Good Video Barr as always.
To me the ETXs stole the show , I’ve used ZLXs planning to move to ETXs or QSCs but I say JBL has good subwoofers to me EV just doesn’t do good with subwoofers , I prefer QSC KW181s or the dual 18 JBL subwoofer that you have BARR, great video ! Keep up the good work
for thous who ask for some low budget speaker, best advice is to move on premium series, couse is not just about power, or sound quality, its about evrything... premium speakers are designed to run shurely all nights for many years, they sound better, louder, clear etc i start 4 years ago with Mackie Thump 15, and was happy to have them. I could't realise how to give a thousand euro for same size speaker, as profesionals do now i invest in Montarbo 2200 (3000$ per pices) and looking to buy Montarbo Earth 218 (4000$ pices) and i perfectly know why it cost that much and why it deserve that guys, with more expensive speakers youll hear new notes, new sounds in same song, that with cheap soeakers you just loose that
Because these are both so awesome my comments are on the micro-level. Really getting into the nitpicking here. EV sounded a little muddy compared to the clear, crisp tones of the JBL. JBL just seems to have that 'live' feeling while the EV sounded like playback. I am also familiar with JBL's method of flatlining the profile so you have the option of punching specific bands up...which is hard to back off from on the EV because you would be trying to EQ out the muddiness instead of boosting bands to enhance others. Quite literally sold on the SRX. Buying today.
That was EXACTLY what I was thinking...some guy posted that apparently the JBLs don't sound as good at higher volumes (they sound cheapy and not as crisp)!!!!! Not sure how true that is tho! It is a really frekin high end speaker after all!
If I were a professional mobile DJ, I would go for passive speakers and subs, and 2 amps. Some budget passive PA speakers with the proper amplifiers can sound better than high end active speakers. I’ve heard JBL MR15s from 1998 with a Crown XTi amp and that system sounded better than JBL SRX 815Ps and maybe even the Bose L1s. Also having that redundancy with a passive system is just awesome.
I wouldn't have guessed this coming in, but I think the JBL takes it. The low end was tighter and fuller. The high-end was more real. The EV sounded a little muddy in comparison.
Man. Is it hard to choose! They both sound so similar. Just because these are the best PA speakers I have listened to. EV & JBL are my favourite speaker brands. But I think I have to say that JBL takes it. But hey, I respect everyones votes, infact I can tell why people would vote for the EV. As always great video DJ Barr Keep it up!!
Jbl had a crispier and better bottom end on the JBL the EV had less bottom end more mid range than the JBL. EV can be more for a pop, rock crowd where is JBL you can rock a club dance, rock, pop, rap,hip hop, house and jazz etc etc
So close. Let's face it, these are two of the best speakers on the market and you will never notice the difference in the real world. Unfortunately they are both HEAVY and put a crimp in the back or a "Mobile" DJ. When you drop to the midrange version of each speaker (10-15 lbs lighter), I think the EV has the edge (even though I own JBL).
Consider getting passive speakers better sound quality, extra redundancy, and lighter. So even mid end passive speakers with a high end amp will sound better than high end powered PA speakers.
Can you do a vs video on the Rcf art 710mk4 vs Yorkville elite e10p vs old Yorkville elite 160p- Yamaha dxr10. The battle of the 10 inches.Winner will be my monitor lol!
DJ Barr, I have just a question. I really like 15" speakers because they have more bass, but recently I wish I had more bass and I decided to buy an 18" sub XLF and in Brazil it's very expensive. So I sold my speaker to add some money to it and buy a couple of brand new JBL speakers (x2) and a sub xlf (x1). My question is: should I get 12" speakers or 15" if I will have sub xlf? I love how 15" sounds, but I was told that the mids clarity from 12" are just perfect, differently than 15". I'm almost getting the 12 speakers for this reason and also because it's cheaper, but I'm afraid I'll regret it for ocasionally interested in use it without a subwoofer and find myself bothered about poor bass. Speakers in interest: (x2) prx812 or prx815 and (x1) prx818xlf sub
The EV sounds cleaner to me. The JBL sounded muddled. That could have been because of the mic they used. Question: Can you send audio to the JBL networked to the computer? I haven't heard of any powered speakers that can do that, but someone should, and I'm sure it is coming down the line at some point.
I am a fan of these 2 brands all day. But i use the JBL for Subs And EV for tops. I love the clear and deep bass the JBL produces and the clear Vocal the EV gives. Cant go wrong with either of the 2

for me ev is the winner, there are new versions of this same spekers in EV with bluetooth and the jbl app for speaker have some trobules
Great video Barr! Thanks for doing it. Yeah I agree these two were neck & neck. I liked the bottom end on the JBLs, but the EVs sounded a little less muffled to me through my headphones. Respect to both JBL and EV for making great speakers. I’d probably go with EVs tho 🤓.
Wooow I love booth i have one on each but honestly im incline a lil bit for the EV I love much more how they sound.. that doesn’t mean that jbl is bad.. i like it too
EV ETX, I own the 15 tops and 18 subs - Things BUMP!
I got the ETX 15p tops and just got an ETX 18sp sub and I'm loving that deep bass. I wish I could afford another LOL. I just wish I could get the next 18sp sub at the same deal as the first $1,150 w/tax.
@@djaftermath4313 wow man!! That's cheap

Nice Barr... I tell you what.. I think it's cool that he let's you do your videos there... I used to buy all my stuff from them.. when they were called..CANAL HI-FI...still the # 1 store out in new York... thanks for the flashback you just gave me..keep up the awesomeness..
*One* "
Both are good speakers but JBL’s better. I think you can’t go wrong with any of them as these are the top of both brands for portable sound
EV virtually opens up horizon that JBl ignores. It unwraps the sound on some tracks you played 🎼 🎵 🎶
But overall they both sound same on some other tracks
Did a sound test at guitar center and settled for the EV EKX 15"s and 18" subs. Love them!
Same for me as well. 🔥
Drinking game! Take a shot each time Barr snaps his fingers!!!.............. Then die! Lol! Great job Barr!! Keep up the good work!
Might give that a try with the homies soon. Lol
Hey bro some guy posted he had these JBLs and they were basically crap at higher volumes......what are your experiences? I want to use my guitar modeller through a FRFR system, and this JBL is one I'm lookin at the most along with EV PXM-12MP and possibly a Yamaha DXR12!
Thanks
When I saw the comparison I said JBL SRX all my life.. When a watch the video.. I said again.. JBL SRX..
The EV ETX totally took the win here
Hey. I'm in search for 136+dB SPL speakers. Louder than JBL SRX 835 & EV 35

Congratulations that was a professional comparison!!!!keep it going a like to see more videos like this one!!!!!
JBL also has more SPL, which will give you more fulled sound room.... so...
EV’s are the shit bro, my buddy has JBL’s and he usually buys a new set every other year, he was so impressed with my EV’s and couldn’t believe I had them for 3 years.
finaly a right comparation, this models ar true rivals, both are with the same spechs, wood, coil size of driver, etc
this comparation is very simple, it need more test, more sophisticated to be shure
I love both as well- i started with the 800 series prx and started incorporating the srx into the mix and I always get great comments on the sound!!
use pink noise and some RTA tool, and chek RCF in flat, so youll see that they are not liniar, they have been tuned on highs and low's
Man I got the ev ekx’s 👌🏽
Last time I went to Guitar center ready to buy a pair of powered 15s JBLs, I asked the salesman to turn on the EVs just out of curiosity, I was amazed at the low end and clarity of the EVs, I bought the EVs and now I moved up to the ETX 15ps 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The EV has the edge in highs, and it sounded a bit clearer to me, though it was very close.
Let’s see a rematch between the RCF and SRX (with RickWebbs custom EQ)
Junior Macias Yes
custom settings add an unfair advantage which is exactly what they are trying NOT to do in this video.
I agree

I am currently looking to replace my speakers of 4yrs Mackies SRM450. Did some research between JBL vs EV vs QSC vs Alto vs Mackie vs RCF vs Yahama and honestly damn there's just too much info and videos on sound quality. If you can do a video with all these brand side by side with volume and EQ, you'd kill it!
Why doesn't this comment have more likes! I feel like a lot more are defaulting to JBL because of the more recognizable brand name and they could potentially be missing out on some other great options. So this review is definitely needed!
Hi Barr,
Thanks for the review.
What’s ur height and weight? And do you lift two 12p’s one in each hand?
Srx815p the best dj speakers for dj's, turn up lil bit the Bass up and we good to go, I'm glad this djs that speak for there personal experiences that's y I bought the srx815p 100% QUALITY SOUND 100% (JBL👍👌) (EV👎)
When you go in too a shop to demo speakers they are not gonna tune them for you there gonna show you them Flat so that you can make a decision on what they sound like out of the box.
Good Video Barr as always.
Soundtastic Events id tune them myself. I’d never make a $1000 decision based off a flat eq.
@@DjCBlaq I did when I bought my rcf I am super happy
EV is better. But JBL has a lot of history and quality when it comes to professional equipment.
Keep up the good work
china scrap😆
I have QSC but watching this video it sounded to me like EV sounded deeper In sound which i prefer as long has it's not distorted.
for thous who ask for some low budget speaker, best advice is to move on premium series, couse is not just about power, or sound quality, its about evrything... premium speakers are designed to run shurely all nights for many years, they sound better, louder, clear etc
i start 4 years ago with Mackie Thump 15, and was happy to have them. I could't realise how to give a thousand euro for same size speaker, as profesionals do
now i invest in Montarbo 2200 (3000$ per pices) and looking to buy Montarbo Earth 218 (4000$ pices) and i perfectly know why it cost that much and why it deserve that
guys, with more expensive speakers youll hear new notes, new sounds in same song, that with cheap soeakers you just loose that
Because these are both so awesome my comments are on the micro-level.
Exactly that lively sound keeps JBL heavy favor on competition
bang spot on
That was EXACTLY what I was thinking...some guy posted that apparently the JBLs don't sound as good at higher volumes (they sound cheapy and not as crisp)!!!!! Not sure how true that is tho! It is a really frekin high end speaker after all!
Those electro-voice etx are the truth. I just did 300 people with two of them, and I have four.. you have to hear them in person

BARR i agree with Dj Rick Web i have one SRX 835P and after watching Dj Rick's Video on tuning the speaker, it made a big difference in sound. "ITALO"
I wouldn't have guessed this coming in, but I think the JBL takes it. The low end was tighter and fuller. The high-end was more real. The EV sounded a little muddy in comparison.
Is there a big difference from the EV ZLX compared to the higher ETX model
JBL uses a much bigger compression driver than the ETX, JBL was supposed to pump out more highs
Most of the layman DJ’s don’t know about this. The JBL probably has a lower crossover point for more vocal focus and intelligibility…

Loved it and I voted for JBL.
El mejor EV ETX 👍
Jbl had a crispier and better bottom end on the JBL the EV had less bottom end more mid range than the JBL. EV can be more for a pop, rock crowd where is JBL you can rock a club dance, rock, pop, rap,hip hop, house and jazz etc etc
Both a lil to heavy for my taste but to each his own..38lbs is Max for me.. unless it's for night club install..
Awesome I have the EV elx!!!

i'd prefer my Yorkville EF15p's to both of them (even tho i'm not thrilled with it's rugged look..)
EV has more clarity, tighter bass response. -only my humble opinion.
The JBL's are more durable and flexable. Ive got both. You can go into your JBL and eq it to sound anyway you want. EV's sound good though.
Hey Bar how does the JBL SRX815P compare to the Qsc kw152?
Which one limits faster? I’m interested in one of them
That's what im looking for... the real battle...
You failed to mention what preset was on EV speaker - Music or Live. They sound different.
After a little research, I found out the "live" mode does a flatter EQ, but the speaker defaults to "music" mode, which cuts some of the mids.
the professionals NEVER use "Music" mode. That would be for low-volume background music. At a dance- LIVE is the only option
When it's safe to return to NY, I will be visiting Canal Sound.
FBT Mittus 115 are the best! What you know about them bro?
Can you a comparison of the EV ETX15 vs Yamaha DZR15?
EV all the way!!!
I owned 2 EVs and one just went bad... After a lot of research I found that EV/BOSH cheaps out in a lot of components.
Which series speaker? If you're talking about the ZLX that was definitely an issue with the older ones.
#teamev baby lol For Tops That Is. You Can't Touch EV When It Comes To Voice . I.E Electric Voice hehe. But i do prefer JBL SRX for Bass.
Love the electro voice
thank you!
Need to do a sound test with one distance and two using a db meter when you fine tune the ev's very clean and punchy
I bought the ev etx when they came out but I returned it and get the srx and happy with it.
I am a fan of both. It does seem as if the ETX speaker is turned every so slightly off the location of the mic/camera...its angled none the less.
agreed
Jbl is more clearer....I have a pair of 835 srx and a pair of EV 18 inch bass bottom....the performance coming out the JBL is superb...

Ev ETX.. clear and crisp
Honestly if you adjust the eq in the srx it will blow the ev out sadly. Both great speakers though.
The EV sounds cleaner to me. The JBL sounded muddled. That could have been because of the mic they used.
Question: Can you send audio to the JBL networked to the computer? I haven't heard of any powered speakers that can do that, but someone should, and I'm sure it is coming down the line at some point.
I just got a pair of prx815’s and now im rethinking my purchase. Should i have gone with srx’s instead?
