One feature he did not mention ,perhaps his brother failed to tell him, is the increase in volume you get from your main speakers when you use the active sub woofer to process the incoming signals from the mixer and send only the mid and highs to your main speakers! Because these main speakers do not have to handel the bass signals they have more volume output! And trust me its nice to have that extra voluume! Also with a good crossover in the sub or subs the bass should not be a problem regarding volume or muddy bass! But having said this i think this is a excellent video tutor!
Great demonstration. I've been doing this for a few years now, and I love the way how you can separate the tops from your subs. It makes the sound of your set up so much better. Keep up the good work.
Makes sense…relearning adding in a mixer to my gear…using a 10 channel for weddings and about to change up how I use everything to optimize sound and performance

Can you show how to hook up 2 tops & 1 sub to one channel (left)on the mixer and do the same thing on the (right) side of the mixing board consisting of two tops and one sub. Do you run 2 separate aux lines to the individual subs on individual channels then connect the two tops on each side?
I did give a verbal description on how to hook it up with 2 tops and 2 subs, but maybe soon I’ll show how I run my cables at my next gig log. Keep watching to find out!
I learned a lot now what if you are hooking up 2 subs and 2 tops the tops I'm good the sub u showed comes out quarter in aux what about the other sub cause the quarter in beside the aux on the board it says foot switch
Good guide, im running 2 passive speakers or tops but i want to add a powered Subwoofer and 2 stage mornitors to the system, how do i connect them especially if the monitors are slso passive
Great break down. I just recently got a pre amp Behringer mixer. The pa speakers do good on my DJ controller which is a numark ns7 but It seemed that my bass cabinets wasn’t getting a strong signal. I would hook up the pa speakers to master and the bass cabinet to booth. But on either one the I had to turn up the volume all the way for the bass cabinet and it did decent but wasn’t full potential that it could be. So that’s why I got a pre amp mixer. Also the mono advice was great I never thought of that but makes sense. But good video very helpful advice
Hey, Can you show how to connect 2 subs with two tops along with another speaker for the dj? As well as the setup for a dj mixer for that? I work with my father at a dj/audio company and I am struggling to grasp how to pass the xlr cables to make the speakers and subs connect with each other. Thanks!
Hello, beautiful video... I would like to ask you and ask if it is possible to connect subwoofers to the mixing desk also in the control room? Thank you Lada
Lately I’ve been running mono out of my dj mixer and using booth output to my subs for the same effect. Essentially the booth knob becomes the bass knob.
I’m using only LP records and players via mixer to power Amp then speaker. Haven’t added any sub woofer yet as I’m confused about the Base performance form sub will I achieve or not I’m sure from CD signal I can get good bass from sub I don’t play CDs anymore Please suggest a normal mono sub woofer for my set up considering that I’m using only records and turntables I use Behringer DDM 4000 mixer It’s only for my home use not for DJ.
So how does the amp come into play ? This looks like your mixer is the amp : it doesn't show an amplifier connected here. Also, in this setup the stops and the subs would be on the same EQ right ?
If you’re running monitors, then you’ll need a larger mixer that has multiple Aux sends. Usually you start seeing multiple Aux sends in 16 channel mixers and larger.

You said use a mono for the subs how does it work with more than one sub? Do I daisey chain and only connect one quarter inch to the mixer? I am guessing that is better so you can control just one knob.
Thank you for explaining everything. I have a question. When you are connecting your computer or an iPad to the external mixer, do you need to use left and right channels on the mixer or just one channel? Would that be the left input channel on external mixer? Thank you
Depends on your external mixer. You can use either an XLR to 1/8 inch cable into 1 channel or you can use a dual 1/4 to 1/8 into 2 channels. It all depends on how many channels you will be using.
Depends if your external mixer has a 2nd aux out or not. If you only have 1, you’ll have to decide which is more important to you. My DJ controller (DDJ 1000 SRT) has a “booth out” option. I would run my monitors through there if I had the option.
