I do all the maintenance on all of my toys, but it’s nice to have a video like this to show you exactly how it’s done, thanks again for sharing, happy and safe boating!
Just a couple of small things. 1) I use a 1/2 inside diameter tubing for the drain (Slides on and off just a tad easier) with a clear container to check for any metal shavings. 2) Leave the cowling off and run the motor for about 5 minutes while watching the filter for leaks. GREAT video by the way!
Thanks for the tips! Much appreciated!
Thanks for the great video Justin... I just bought a brand new 115 pro xs and you helped me out.
Thank you! Glad i was able to help! Good luck fishing and tight lines!
Awesome Job Justin!
Thank you!!
Nice instructional video. Here's a neat trick. Use some 3/4 inch PVC pipe cut to length over your vinyl tubing. It will keep everything straight.
Mercury has a vessel view on the console of my boat keeps track of hours and well about everything. Other wise I think mercury dealer can tell you the hours when they hook it up to their laptop. Only thing I would add as I'm not sure if he mentioned but just like a car motor you should drain when the oil is warm or hot be careful.
Thank you
Great video I was gonna take my boat in now I’m not I will do it myself
Good video
Excellent video. How is the 115 performing? I have new boat coming in a few weeks with that motor and was curious how its performing for you. thanks
Thank you! I love the motor! Had a ground wire issue right when I got it, but other than that it's been great so far! Very quiet and smooth running. Easy to maintain with doing my own oil changes and lower unit oil. change!
Great video... Do you run engine afterwards or crank with kill switch flipped to load filter with oil??
Yes we do. We take it outside and run it with water muffs for a bit
Thanks for posting this, you made it very simple to follow. 2 questions for you. I had heard it is a good idea to put a little oil in the filter before installing it, can you comment. and, should I run the meter a bit before changing the oil. the boat has been sitting for about a month.
I believe it's always best to drain the oil when it's warm. I would definitely run it and warm the oil up. Also, it is not necessary to put oil in the filter. Just install and the motor will do the rest! Hope this helps bud! Thanks!
@@walleyewarriorsoutdoors9588 Thanks for the info, thing went great. followed your instructions to a T and no problems. :)
Nice video, thanks! Where did you get that slag cover? I damaged mine some and am looking for a cover like that.
Skag not slag. Autocorrect helping.
I bought in online. I think it's from Piranha. Easy to install
Great vid! Made it look easy! I’m getting ready to order a new Lund 2021 Impact XS 1775 with 115 pro xs.. curious what is top end on the boat with that engine.. how does it perform fishin or towing the kids around on tubes.. I’m from a 250 pro XS on my bassboat but also needed a multi species / family boat.. I noticed you had a impact also.. would like to know ur thoughts on that boat and engine combo.. thanks in advanced
With me and one other I get to top speed of 44 mph. Once you get 4 people in there the hole shot gets a lot slower and takes longer to get on plane. I tow a tube on it and it's not bad as long as there is only 2 or 3 people in the boat when I'm doing that. I do wish I had gone to the 1875 with a bigger motor. I love that boat and motor but just like any boat it gets bogged down with more weight added. Really hard to get on plane with 5 people in it too.
Walleye Warriors Outdoors makes sense.. it’s usually me and a friend, Team Partner or wife.. but when I take family it’s just me, wife and daughters.. glad they light lol.. yeah I’d like to get the 1875 but won’t fit in garage with my bassboat.. the dealer rep told me.. though the 1875 has the 150, he said its equivalent to 1775 speed because of weight of boat is heavier so need more powerful engine to push it.. but like they say.. you can’t catch a fish going 65mph.. so I guess smaller engine will force me to fish more rather then run and gun? 🤔😬🎣 anyways thanks for the Info! Great vid tip and channel!
Where can you get that drain hose?
@@dominichawkins131 any hardware store has it. Usually sold by the foot! Or you get one when you buy the mercury oil change kit from dealer!
Walleye Warriors Outdoors thanks so the correct size is 7/16?
hi>getting ready for my first oil change on 115 pro xs. looks like the quicksilver oil change kit comes with 25w40 not 10w30. Would you be kind to clarify this for me please.
I use 10w30 based upon the recommendation from my dealer. I am not sure if there are different model years that require different oil weights. I would double check with your dealer.
Didn't see anyone mention in the comment but you kept saying 5 quarts. My sticker on the engine shows 5.5 quarts. And when I put the 5.5 quarts in and after I start the engine to fill the filter I just make it to the "Add" mark before the cross hatches. I end up putting a total of 6 quarts which bring my level on the stick to half way. Doesn't seem right?!?
Old post, I know, but I just changed my Pro XS 115 oil for the first time. I also added all 6 quarts because 5.5 quarts was far down the dipstick on the crosshatches before I ever started the motor. 6 quarts got it to the full mark without yet cranking it, so that should be just right, and the same as yours once the oil filter is full.
Hey nice video. I just did my first oil change super easy. What prop are you running?
I have the mercury spitfire 17p
Ok cool. I have the same motor on a tracker v175, i threw on the turning point hustler 13.25x17p. Seems like the last 3/4 of the throttle doesn’t do much, I wonder if it could handle a 19p 3 blade.
one more question bro. I have the same motor on Lund adventure and it doesnt tilt nowhere near as high as yours. tilts just enough so that the prop/skeg wont drag when boat is beached if you know what i mean. Is there a limiter that can be released when tilting up? I had my boat rigged in the factory I suppose.
I am not sure. I do not have anything on mine that I can adjust or have to do specially! Sorry, wish I was more help!
@@walleyewarriorsoutdoors9588 I found out from the dealer there is some kind of electronic upper range tilt limiter. I have it on my boat because it came with ski pole(removable) and it prevents the motor cover from colliding with the pole. I will ask to have this limit removed as i dont anticipate using ski pole often if at all.
Do you pre-fill the oil filter before installing it?
I do not. No need. Thanks!
Mon garage prêt de chez moi m'a vendu de l'huile mercury 25w-40 4 - stroke pour le moteur pro 115 comme toi je me demande pourquoi toi tu mais de la 10w-30 est-ce que ça dérange quel sont les différences?
where is the running timer for this engine so you when to service it
I do not know of a timer that you can see. That is all stored in the computer chips. Definitely recommend changing the oil at least yearly. I change mine twice a year because I use it heavily!
If you have newer Sonar/GPS unit you can set up a network on the boat and plug the engine right into the network and you will get ALL the information from the motor... temperature, oil pressure, hours, everything.
What kind of prop do you have on that 115?
A mercury stainless spitfire
I’m having trouble locating a oil change kit for my mercury 115 Pro XS4 stroke engine I’m looking for the correct oil filter and oil but unable to locate it online does anybody know a good website where I could obtain all this and more pacifically for my engine
There are links in my description of the video that have the correct oil and filter for my motor. You can just click on them! Thanks
Where did you get the synthetic 10w 30 4 stroke Mercury oil I'm having a real hard time finding all these products online
@@samuelbush7044 i buy from my local marine dealer. They take good care of me so I repay the favor. I googled it and I found a lot of places that sell it though. Hopefully you can track some down.
@@samuelbush7044
Amazon and Walmart. Mercury does not make a synthetic outboard oil. Its a synthetic blend. Quick Sliver and Mercury are the same oil. Typically Quick silver is less money.
Hello. You show a mercury 115 PRO XS engine with a black bottom plate, I've also seen it with a silver bottom plate ... what's the difference?
The silver lower unit has a different gear ratio and you get a few more mph out of them.
@@walleyewarriorsoutdoors9588 So the Mercury 115 PRO XS with a black bottom is a weaker unit of the PRO XS inscription?
@@walleyewarriorsoutdoors9588 ok
What Prop are you running?
I have a 17P Spitfire
I want to know top speed of your boat we own same boat
I get 43-44 mph with 2 people and perfect conditions. It seems to ride better with 2. I'm a big guy so it must ride different when it's just me. Lol
Take the damn filler cap off and the oil will drain faster.
Awesome. Thanks for the tip! Much appreciated.
