  • A full guide on a 300 hour service of a 115 mercury 4 stroke. The 300 hour service differs from the 100 hour service in two ways. In addition to a 100 service, the 300 hour service also includes the replacement of the water pump and spark plugs. I have a separate video that shows the replacement of the water pump, so be sure to check it out.
    If you enjoyed the video or found it informational please consider, Liking, Commenting, and subscribing and I will try my best to answer any questions.

    I liked the tip on anti-seize on the plug thread. I would also add dielectric silicone grease on the tip of plug where the cable attached to help keep rust and corrosion (especially in salt water).

    That boat looked pretty clean for 300 hours. Owner must be keeping it off the bottom. Great dealer support.

      The thermostat is super easy to check on these motors. its two 10mm (i believe) bolts and it pops right off, but i will for sure make a video on it!

    very good video.During 300 hrs maintenance you should change also the thermostat and the zinc anodes?Am i correct?

    • @ajmcneil3147
      @ajmcneil3147  Год назад +2

      The thermostat and anodes should be inspected every 100 hours. As long as there is no damage or major decay to the thermostat or anodes they should be fine.

    • @ajmcneil3147
      @ajmcneil3147  Год назад

      My first guess would either be plugs or you have a fuel problem (old fuel/water in fuel)

    to take the prop nut off, is it 1 1/16 or 11/16? i thought i heard 11/16 but on someone else's video, i heard 1 1/16. I'm currently watching multiple videos so I can do my own service.

      The thermostat is a inspect item. So if the thermosat is giving any problems then yes it would need changed, otherwise pull it off and inspect it and if nothings wrong then its good to go!

    Great video but the part I needed most was getting the lower end back on. It seemed you were going to line up the shifter with a screw driver but saw it was lined up. ??? Was the third guy moving the shifter in the boat while you were lifting the lower end? ??? I replaced my impeller east enough but curious why you didn't show it? Did you replace the oil seal carrier? My 300 hr kit came with one. How do you know if it needs replaced? Thanks

    • @stevegreene6862
      @stevegreene6862 Год назад

      I found the impeller replacement in a separate video. Good job. Still need more info on getting the unit reassembled. Thanks

    • @ajmcneil3147
      @ajmcneil3147  Год назад +1

      Hey there! The kit does come with a new seal which can be replaced but not exactly necessary. You’ll know it’s time to replace it if you see gear lube leaking from around it. Getting the lower unit back on is a task in itself so I just cut out the majority of it to keep the length of the video down. I plan on making a video on doing just that. The main thing about getting them back on is to spline up the driveshaft. You can do that by spinning the driveshaft or the flywheel until it seats.

      @@ajmcneil3147 Thanks. I was able to get it back together yesterday. Whew! I'd get it together but didn't have full use of helm shifter. Through some trial and error and slowly moving helm shifter an 1/8" at a time, I finally got it with all gear positions working. I'd position The shifting shaft where I thought Forward or Neutral or Reverse was and put the helm shifter accordingly but realized it was moving ever so slightly when I'd lift the lower unit up. I'll watch for your video.

    Hello, I looked at a Godfrey pontoon today with a 2016 Mercury 115 mounted on it. Has 238 hours on it. I had them remove the top engine cover. I noticed oil sitting all around in the front of the engine to the right of the oil filter. Is there something in that area that's prone for oil to leak? I'm looking for suggestions before I would go to purchase. Thanks.

    • @ajmcneil3147
      @ajmcneil3147  Год назад

      Sorry for the late reply but from my experience when changing the oil filter, it can get a little messy. Now the oil filter has a little tray underneath it which is supposed to cath any leftoer oil but it can fill up pretty quickly. Another possibility might be from refilling with oil since the oil cap is on top up by the front of the motor. I have seen where people have spilled oil down the front of the motor.

    Question: Where is the flame/spark arrestor for an outboard 115 mercury located at??

    • @ajmcneil3147
      @ajmcneil3147  Год назад

      The spark/flame arrestor should be located on the front of the intake manifold behind the removable panel.

    Hi, thanks for doing such a great video , I have a question, Does a 115hp Mercury pro xs have a belt to be replaced on the 300 hours maintenance?

    • @ajmcneil3147
      @ajmcneil3147  Год назад

      Good question. The 115 pro xs does not have belt that needs to be changed as far as I know. I have only seen a few and had to run to work to check the manual to make sure there wasn’t. The only “belt” on that motor should be the timing chain which does not have a maintenance spec.

    • @ajmcneil3147
      @ajmcneil3147  Год назад

      A belt only comes into play when you get into the 150s.

    • @juanvargas-wr3yi
      @juanvargas-wr3yi Год назад

      I think that’s the reason why they sell the 300 hours maintenance kit without the belt so I was confuse because the mercury Mobil vessel view shows to replace a belt in my motor but I couldn’t find any belt on it , I appreciate your help , thanks again for sharing your knowledge and your videos
