The only show I know that always had the saddest ending. Bill Bixby created the template for David Banner - there will never be another like him. I liked the Marvel movies (at least some of them) but as much as I liked the adventure and hi-jinx that version of the Hulk and Bixby's are on two completely different levels. Bixby's version had a lot of gravitas. He took the sci-fi feel and turned it to more human. As an audience you just couldn't help but to sympathize with him.
My ABSOLUTE favorite T.V. show as a kid!!
I would run home from school to watch this show.

RIP BILL BIXBY. If another actor had been cast as David Banner you wouldn't have got the respect and professionalism Bixby bought to the character.
What makes the Incredible Hulk so special? It could've treated the Hulk as a joke or a kiddie show character.
Instead, they chose to explore the Hulk in a realistic way.
TRUTH I would love to see a continuation of the series.
I think it would work, because as you said, it was ahead of the times.
Now, they'd be able to take the realism and down to Earth angle to new places which the original couldn't explore.
"Trial of the Incredible Hulk" was the closet to a modern and some would a depressing version where you see Banner is homeless and basically a victim of the Hulk.
The Hulk keeps him alive. Yes. But also is a curse.
The Incredible Hulk is a tragic story if you remove all the comic book elements.

@@davidaston5773That's like Get Smart. Barbara Feldon once stated that Tom Poston was originally cast as Max before the role went to Don Adams. Being cast as Byron Glick on The Bill Dana Show made him the perfect choice for Max, and I can't imagine 99 being as adoring of Poston as she was of Adams.

Bill Bixby was a terffic actor and was the perfect choice to play David Banner. His mannerisms and reactions were impeccable.
Bixby's acting was phenomenal in the
"Dark Side" episode playing the "evil" Banner!

@@dannyboyy8465 And watching David witnesses the cure he so desperately want all the years destroyed made his transformation gut wrenching. Bill Bixby made David's plight to be free from his curse moving and made him sympathetic and a tragic hero.
3:52 That's a further indication that David Banner always had the potential to develop a split personality. The gamma radiation just unleashed what was already there.

@@seensay2132 Most likely, yes. His mother died when he was a boy, and he always blamed his father for not letting a doctor stay on the grounds. So he rebelled and went into medicine. Then the death of his wife, Laura, during a car accident that he felt was his fault. Six months following the accident, compound that anger with the knowledge that he himself had the potential for that hidden strength that all humans have - more so than the others he and Elaina interviewed - only to be unable to call on it because there was a low sunspot gamma activity that day. That had to only add to his own self-hatred of himself and feeling of powerlessness. People ripped away from him because he could not save them. The mind can be greatly affected by so much trauma, this much survivor's guilt, after a while.

@@Artisan1979 Eh could be, but I think he's too level headed to let that control him, I think all this would have happened regardless, I mean he was a doctor/scientist, he experimented with medicine, if you're saying it was all in his mind and imagining it, that's pretty ridiculous.
@@Mrd9960 Humans only use 10% of the brain power. Emotion can affect somebody so traumatically without them even realizing it.
At 5:10 is when the scene becomes unrealistic. He says "Hey Doc!" and she shows up instantly.

I think he was afraid that the Dr would run more tests figuring out that he transforms into a hulking green creature and that also he would transform after having his premonitions or a nightmare in the hospital.
That's why he wanted to leave.

I thought this was the episode where the doctor told David he would be crippled because he got hit by a car. But by changing into the hulk, & gaining strength, it helps him recover, & he's able to walk again in the end of the show.
That episode was "The Harder They Fall"
The Dr is surprised, yet not really curious why banner is perfectly fine after being electrocuted... You would think she would prying, to find out why. I like David's face he's like " yeah I am made of pretty tough stuff...lol.. gamma stuff... 😆. The Hulk saved his life more than David knew at this point. It's a blessing more than a curse.
Professor Ken-Look at it this way-after Banner was electrocuted, he could see into the future.

How come the dr didn’t detect the gamma ray radiation in him
Even still today I buy Bill Bixby more as Banner than Mark ruffalo especially since we never saw much of Ruffalo as Bruce anyway & even when we did they did it more for comedic purposes least now and now he’s always Hulk which is annoying lol
