      Never Underestimate Uncle Iroh
      Iroh is the most in-depth character built in the show
      after Aang and Zuko of course.
      I like that Aang and Zuko are always portrayed as Ying-yang of each other
      And showing that they are just two side of the same coin

    Mark Hamill (Ozai's voice actor) once said that he read the script for the pilot and thought the show would be cancelled after a few episodes because it was too smart for Nickelodeon, and this episode was one of the reasons why. He wasn't wrong about Avatar TLA being too smart for Nickelodeon tho. The showrunners suggested that the episodes be aired in chronological order and Nickelodeon did the exact opposite and ran it like their other shows which were made to be episodic. This ended up tanking the viewership until they buckled and did as the showrunners suggested. That's just one of the many mishaps that occurred with Avatar. They have a love hate relationship with the series since it's their biggest show thus far but it's so counter to how they operate that they stunt its further growth.

I just got out of adolescence when I watched this series religiously but Uncle Iroh's words hit harder when you are a bit older and understood those words of wisdom with much more deeper understanding and applying it to practical everyday life. Sometimes, after every good decision I made, I silently thanked Uncle Iroh under my breath...

    There are two Zuko moments in this episode that hit hard for me. When he is struggling with shooting lightning and it keeps blowing up in his face 'Like everything always does" the little crack in his voice feels so real. The frustration and disappointment come through in that moment. Then when he screams at the sky at the end daring the storm to strike him. Dante Basco is so great. Of course everything Mako says as Iroh is amazing too.

    The reason earthbending is so hard for Aang to get is because he grew up as an air nomad. His culture and upbringing was all about detacthing oneself from the world, being light on his feet, dodging and avoiding violence, being free and finding clever solutions around problems.
    Meanwhile, earthbending requires him to be very rooted and immovable, very much attached to the world and to the earth, rigid, substantive, and direct.
    One could imagine if the avatar was born an eartbender, they would likely have the most difficulty learning airbending for similar reasons. Like, could you imagine Toph as an air nomad? Airbending?

    Oh trust me, you can mess up tea easily. Loose leaf tea isn't like bag tea. The bags actually trap a lot of the tea liquid. So you have to pay a lot more attention to how long you steep it and even the temperature of water you use. I would really recommend trying a loose leaf green tea and a loose leaf black tea at least once, because it's a much different experience than bagged tea imo. More aroma, deeper and more complex flavors

    reason aang is struggling with earth is because it’s the opposite of air, with air u need to be light, swift, with earth u have to be firm and strong, when iroh makes the chart with all the bending the ones opposite of one another will be harder to learn(if an avatar is fire, water will be the hardest)

    You had a bad version of pumpkin soup - it needs to be hot and it's best spicy also - I make it with pureed pumpkin, curry powder, chopped spicy Italian sausages, chicken broth and heavy cream - simmered long enough for all the flavours to blend. It's great!
    As for tea - I'd say Suko used way too much tea leaves and likely steeped it too long. I've experienced that myself many years ago - the person who made it literally used triple the proper amount of tea and steeped it for about 15 minutes - it was super strong, very bitter and going cold - well, it was warm, but not hot.

    I personally don't see doing a placebo earthbending as positive reinforcement, kinda sets him up for failure if he never feels what it's like to earthbend on his own. Plus, pretty sure with how in tune benders are at how they exert their own energy, Aang being a master in one would know immediately that it was not him... Katara just meant praise him when he succeeds, mildly correct him when he doesn't. Katara perhaps babies him a little too much but that's why Toph is there, she makes him EARN it🤷‍♀️

    It's actually Toph made Sokka stuck (you can hear some typical earthbending sound). It was her "gentle approach" to force Aang stand against danger. He couldn't deal with animal with airbending until he used earthbending. That's why she was near and mysteriously smirked after Katara's question.

    This is where the different philosophies of the bending affect the order in which Aang/ The avatar needs to learn the bending. Aang is an air bender who value freedom and detachment, he learns water first which is the element of change ( Eb and Flow). He needs that to be able to master earth which is his opposite. If he didn’t have the philosophy of change he wouldn’t be able to do earth which is proud and rigid instead of free and detached. It’s very connected all of it

    • @ssjgoku276
      @ssjgoku276 3 месяца назад +17

      Adding to this further. Earth teaches fortitude and discipline which is crucial to eventually learn Fire bending which is the element of power and drive (please note the key word, Drive). Fire needs to be kept under control otherwise it will burn everything indiscriminately.
      When Aang started fire bending back in S1 after learning from Jeong Jeong, one can see that fire had no discipline, no control at all. That ultimately caused pain and suffering (Katara in this case).
      I cannot say further about Fire because of spoilers.

    • @juancamilogomezmunera1260
      @juancamilogomezmunera1260 3 месяца назад +7

      @@ssjgoku276 Backwards works too. Airbender philosophies give power to the wrong aspects of firebending. Free and uncontrollable fire is the weakest. That's why Azula is so powerful but then falls so hard at the end when she loses control of herself.
      Firebending passion and power make earth control an unstoppable force, but that usually ends up hurting everyone because they can't empathize with others, are too stubborn, and are full of themselves, like that earth general at the beginning of the second book.
      Earth philosophies were seen in the Northern Tribe water people. They closed themselves off from the world and kept strict rules, which made them unable to "flow" and adapt, dooming their future. Developments of techniques like those we saw at the swamp or the ones Katara uses are proof of what they were losing with that mentality.
      Water philosophies would make air detachment a plausible option, just ignoring the rest of the world and living by themselves. Maybe traveling freely, thinking one's actions wouldn't have consequences, or just avoiding them.

    • @ssjgoku276

    3 episodes into a flawless run starting with Toph's intro and going to the end of the season. Banger after banger and really one of the best stretches of any show ever.

    Ange I 100% agree soup is not food. At best it is a warm up to the actual meal. I hate someone want to eat out at a soup place, better come with a damn bread bowl at least.

    .....I've literally never noticed that throughline between Iroh's quote about kinds of cups and what they're drinking out of in this episode. That's so cool! Major props for noticing!!

    Damn I forgot how relatable the ending Zuko moment was. I've even caught myself yelling at the world, the universe saying it's screwed me before so why not just drive the final stake in and do your worst. It's insanely relatable...

    Toph got Aang to train by touching his nuts and his staff.

    About Lightning bending, I see as needing purpose… Clear mind. Not peace as no aggression.
    That’s why Azula can do it but Zika falls behind

      which is also interesting since Azula could do it but we can clearly see girl does not have a peace of mind💀Further showing how much of a perfectionist she is

    Iroh is a calmer and much more tame version of Jordan Peterson. Of course, young men will find him as a desirable role model! (I know that JP is a controversial figure but they have similar personalities)

    • @KongFuzii
      @KongFuzii 3 месяца назад +2

      @@kairostimeYT The comparaison is completely worthless. Iroh is simply a good man. You dont have to look for a controversial, hot take loving internet persona to draw a comparaison. Lots of people had a Iroh in their life. Good teachers, fathers, coaches who take their role seriously and look for ways to guide younger people are much closer to Iroh.

      @@KongFuzii Remember that Iroh wasn't always a good man, we can see him in the past laughing about burning a city
