is no one going to talk about the peacocks?! They are soo pretty
Hello, Michele, I just got crayola air dry clay today, and I have never worked with clay before. This video is the only one I can find that goes down to the absolute basics with this clay, which is what I need.
I understand that this is likely for a class, but do you plan on continuing to teach this clay through videos on RUclips? This video was remarkably helpful and exactly what I was looking for. I would adore if you plan to continue this clay series.
Thank you. =)
Thank you, I will most likely add some more videos as the semester progresses. I'm so glad that it was helpful for you. I appreciate the feedback.

What a sweet woman you are! So calming. I feel like this is the sort of video I should follow when feeling super anxious and just need something to keep my mind and hands busy. But it’s also great at just learning how to work with crayons air dry
Thank you!
Hey 👋 thanks alot for going through the real basics! I swear I had ceramics in middle and high school but you're better!
My pleasure! I'm so glad that you found the video. Keep on creating! It's so important for our mental health! :)
This really helped, I’m making a Baldi’s basics school with the school made out of cardboard and paper and paint and the charecters and items are made out of clay, the box I’m making it in is huge, thank you for giving me some great tips (dude Ik I sound like a bot but I’m not idk why I type like this)
That's great!
Just starting this thank you so much for explaining so beautifully appreciation and gratitude from Cali!🥰🙏🏾
Thank you Cali! It makes me very happy to know this has been useful! Happy creating!
Thank you for creating this video and sharing it with us!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey I’ve had that clay for 3 years and the container that it’s in is air tight and my clay never dried out so by the way this is The most easy clay to use like literally ever
That's great. Even if it dries in the container, you can add a little bit of water to re-hydrate it.
Can you use water to smooth it out? (when your doing it) 💖👑
why are their so many likes but no replies?! Like, i want to know too
Yes! You can also use water to connect the pieces. You can use a paint brush to smooth it out as well!
Yes, as long as you don't get it too wet. Too much water will turn it into slip, but a little at a time will smooth out the surface.
I am thinking the same when I bought it
Hello! thank you so much for the tutorial. this helps a lot and I got air dry clay not knowing how or what to do with it. this really helped. and by the way your peacocks are beautiful.
Ty
I totally got sidetracked after seeing your peacock! How beautiful! Are these your pets? Now I need to know where you live? Oh how enchanting! Are the white ones also peacocks or some other bird? Sorry, your tutorial was very good, tfs🤗🐾🐈⬛🐾
HA! that's funny... the peacocks roam my neighborhood. I live in a jungle. ha ha The white ones are peacocks too. Yes.
Thank you for this video. I have a tiny ornamental tea set. The handles are broken off the sugar container. Can I attach handles made from this clay directly to the container or do I need to glue them on?
Hi Roz. If your ornamental tea set is made with air dry clay you can glue to make repairs. However the bond will not be strong and will probably continue to break. That said, if it is made out of ceramic you will want to use an epoxy glue.
@@MicheleOgilvie-Artist-Teacher Thank you for your reply. Since you say gluing is possible, I will glue the handles on. I will use a mixture of E6000 glue and baking soda. I've used that on occasion with some other ceramic figurines. I saw a video which said that pilots even use this mixture on private plane parts. It is super strong. But I never tried it with the air dry clay. After I glue the handles, I will sit the little set on a shelf. So I don't think the handles will get disturbed after I glue them on. Thanks again.
Hi Roz, Yes E6000 is great glue. That should work as long as it's not disturbed while curing. A favorite fast setting glue that I use a lot is "Bob Smith Industries BSI-157H Maxi Cure/Insta-Set Combo Pack (3 oz. Combined),Clear"... Available on amazon. I like this system because it is so strong and instantly cures with the spray activator. Good luck with your piece. Sounds like you have this figured out!
Hello! i bought this clay yesterday and tried making a mask with it i put all the clay on top of a plastic white mask and i was wondering will the clay stick to the mask? i did this because i saw a tutorial of a guy making it with air dry clay and currently i left my mask to dry and the clay started to fall off after i touched it so im kinda scared.
The way I would approach something like this would be to roll out a slab of clay no more than 1/2 an inch thick. Make sure to cover the plastic mask with some Saran Wrap to prevent it from sticking to the mask. Lay the slab on top of the mask (over the Saran Wrap) and press into it gentle until it's snug against the form. After it firms up a bit...several hours you can lift it off by grasping the Saran Wrap. At this point you can smooth out any cracks with a touch of water and fill in any week spots with extra clay. After you perfect it you can let it air dry.
can you use water to smooth it out???
Yes, as long as you don't get it too wet. Too much water will turn it into slip, but a little at a time with smooth out the surface.
Do u wait for it to completely dry before painting it or can it be a bit floppy?
It's best to make sure it's completely dry first. I would not recommend painting damp or wet clay. The paint will most likely smear with the wet clay.
I cover some basic painting tips in this video:

I bought this clay but it's very sticky to work with what can I put on my hand so that it wont stick. Thanks
Generally it's only sticky when it's too wet. You could probably use some talcum powder or cornstarch. I've never had that issue, but adding a little non-toxic starch seems like it could dry it out a bit and make it less sticky. That said, you want your clay to be moist and malleable so that it doesn't crack while forming.
Fun
Can you use water to soften it out
Yes. water with rehydrate it. Use it sparingly.
I bought some of this clay and it is so sticky to work with.
Is it okay if I don't put cellofane to properly close it? We don't have cellofane and only zip-locks. 😁
yes. saran wrap or anything else that keeps it sealed from air is great.
My teacher in school used to lay wet paper towel dampened with just a bit of water and peroxide (I guess to inhibit mold?) and she’d lay that right over top the tubs of clay too, then put saran wrap over that. Edit* saran not sedan lol
where can i buy it? i live in europe so is there any website that ships in europe too
You can probably find a different brand of Air dry clay on Amazon that will ship to Europe. Pretty much all air dry clay has similar properties.
Please do a video on horse items for Breyer horses out of that clay
I plan on using this clay to make a crown wall decor. Since some parts will be thicker than the other, I was thinking of bulking the thick parts with aluminum foil. Is that okay? What’s the pro and cons to that?
You can use this clay with wire or foil armatures. If it cracks as it dries, you can use soft clay to patch up the cracks. You cannot do that with earthenware or stoneware clay, but I have had good results with patching air dry clay.
It don’t need a water
Drying time ... ?
It's best to let it dry slowly. It depend on how thick and how large your piece is regarding compete drying time. I would say a few days to completely dry.
