    The reusability of it is great for beginners. You aren’t as scared of messing up or really just going for it and experimenting because you know, meh, who cares, I can just smash it down and rewet it if needed.

    My teacher in school used to lay wet paper towel dampened with just a bit of water and peroxide (I guess to inhibit mold?) and she’d lay that right over top the tubs of clay too, then put saran wrap over that. Edit* saran not sedan lol

    Hi Michele, great video, thank you for taking the time to make this. This may be a bit off topic but i wanted to use the clay to make a piece of water proof slate for a bonsai forest. Can the resin be applied with a brush after the slate is made or does it have to be poured on?

    • @MicheleOgilvie-Artist-Teacher
      @MicheleOgilvie-Artist-Teacher 9 месяцев назад

      Hi. If you are going to use resin you should follow the instructions on the product. Some resins are best poured and some can be brushed on. If you are starting from scratch, and want your slate to be totally water proof I would suggest making it out of epoxy clay. There are several brands to choose from such as Apoxy Sculpt, Milliput, and Epoxy Clay. www.amazon.com/Epoxy-Clay-Self-Hardening-Sculpting-Repairing/dp/B0C7ZDQCTF/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=1TLOL4ZKWYVTP&keywords=apoxie%2Bsculpt&qid=1699921379&sprefix=apoxy%2Bsculpt%2Caps%2C133&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1

    Thank you for this video. I have a tiny ornamental tea set. The handles are broken off the sugar container. Can I attach handles made from this clay directly to the container or do I need to glue them on?

    • @MicheleOgilvie-Artist-Teacher
      @MicheleOgilvie-Artist-Teacher Год назад

      Hi Roz. If your ornamental tea set is made with air dry clay you can glue to make repairs. However the bond will not be strong and will probably continue to break. That said, if it is made out of ceramic you will want to use an epoxy glue.

    • @rozchristopherson648
      @rozchristopherson648 Год назад

      @@MicheleOgilvie-Artist-Teacher Thank you for your reply. Since you say gluing is possible, I will glue the handles on. I will use a mixture of E6000 glue and baking soda. I've used that on occasion with some other ceramic figurines. I saw a video which said that pilots even use this mixture on private plane parts. It is super strong. But I never tried it with the air dry clay. After I glue the handles, I will sit the little set on a shelf. So I don't think the handles will get disturbed after I glue them on. Thanks again.

    • @MicheleOgilvie-Artist-Teacher
      @MicheleOgilvie-Artist-Teacher Год назад

      Hi Roz, Yes E6000 is great glue. That should work as long as it's not disturbed while curing. A favorite fast setting glue that I use a lot is "Bob Smith Industries BSI-157H Maxi Cure/Insta-Set Combo Pack (3 oz. Combined),Clear"... Available on amazon. I like this system because it is so strong and instantly cures with the spray activator. Good luck with your piece. Sounds like you have this figured out!

    • @MicheleOgilvie-Artist-Teacher
      @MicheleOgilvie-Artist-Teacher Год назад

      Generally it's only sticky when it's too wet. You could probably use some talcum powder or cornstarch. I've never had that issue, but adding a little non-toxic starch seems like it could dry it out a bit and make it less sticky. That said, you want your clay to be moist and malleable so that it doesn't crack while forming.

      It's best to let it dry slowly. It depend on how thick and how large your piece is regarding compete drying time. I would say a few days to completely dry.
