Yes, Yes, Yes to next year’s holiday cooking. I am 1/2 Norwegian, but my ancestors moved to America in the late 1800s. My father’s mother died when he was very young so we essentially have no Norwegian traditions. I would love for you to share even MORE cooking, celebrations and Norwegian traditions year round. I’m only a crocheter, but love watching you guys. Merry, Merry !!
Arne, Arne! Sneaking bites of the cabbage and apple! I burst out loud with laughter! I grew up with a mom who is a German gourmet cook and we learned to cook at 9. The purple cabbage is my favorite. My mouth was watering as i watched you two taste the dishes. Yum, yum! Yes, I would love to see you cook next year. Off to market for both cabbages!
I served the Red Cabbage recipe as a last minute add-on to my Christmas dinner menu. It was superb and a surprise hit with my family and friends! It was a beautiful accompaniment to my rib roast and other side dishes. This one is a keeper! Thank you for sharing this lovely Norwegian recipe.
Why do I always forget about cabbage? It is delicious! I should always have some bags of both of those recipes in the freezer! They are also good cold and a little bit on a cold meat sandwich is great!
I grew up with both kinds of cabbage dishes in Germany and Grünkohl. Now I live in the US and still prepare them. You can also make delicious salads with cabbages and there is a delicious dish with white cabbage , butter, salt, and lots of pepper. Thank you both 🌸
You both do a wonderful job with the cooking tutorials. It is not easy to explain what you’re doing, keep the sous chef in task, and manage the moose hunt all at the same time. And then viola, beautiful, flavorful, appetizing Christmas dinner. The whole family will be watching next week as we travel together to Victoria BC to start our Solstice and Christmas getaway. It will make great entertainment in the car. Good third week of Advent to you both and Freja too!
My parents were Dutch immigrants to the U.S. so I grew up bi-culturally. I enjoy the cooking videos because of the similarities to my mother's and relatives' cooking. Yes, more would be nice. Thank you for your podcasts. I hope you enjoy your holidays.
I like to see you guys cook, I like to learn to make different types of meals, from different countries. This time Arne behaved well, but he still made me laugh when he secretly ate the cabbage slices and then the apple pieces. Arne, you are a big man, with a little rascal inside you, and I love you, and love Carlos. ¡ FELIZ NAVIDAD!
I love watching your cooking shows due to the entertainment factor and to see designers truly displaying the art that is in cooking. Your dishes always look as beautiful as your fiber arts!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
It's amazing how the cook's assistant in every family loves to nibble away on the raw veggies and fruit. My 3 year old granddaughter loves to "help" chop the veggies for just this reason. Too bad the smells cannot come through RUclips
these are dishes that I grew up with -- my parents were Polish and cabbage of all sorts were a part of our meals.. so happy to see you cook cabbage the way my mother (and I ) do. thanks for bringing these "peasant" foods to more folks!!
I grew up in Oswego, NY and my mother's family is Polish. My bachi used to make pierogies and galumpkis for big family get togethers like Christmas and Easter. I have also made a Czechoslovakian dish of a hollowed out cabbage stuffed with ground beef and butter and cooked in the oven. Cabbage is so versatile and delicious. Merry Christmas!
I watched this morning and it looked so good. I didn't have red cabbage or an apple. I substituted a grated carrot and some apple juice. It was delicious, and very pretty. My husband is a carnivore so his had bacon bits and it was tasty also. Great recipe and the video was lots of fun.
Sure! I love watching you cook! I love cabbage and both dishes look very tasty to me. I am the only one in my family who likes cooked cabbage though. But just as Arne, I could eat either as a meal! 💜💜💜💜
Thank you! I could smell the red cabbage all the way here! Rotkohl is what we call it in German. Sometimes I put a couple of spoons lingo berry sauce or cranberry sauce into it. It makes it a little richer. Grünkohl or Kale is also a favorite and I make a slaw or kohlsalat from the green cabbage, with lemon juice, a bit of mayonnaise and fresh dill.
I love your cooking videos please do more! It’s always fun to watch you and listen to Freya! I hope she gets to chase a moose for Christmas if only in her dreams.
Almost finished a knitting project watching this really great video. The problem, not really a problem, was that I could not look down to knit the increases without missing part of your show. Thank you, as always, perfection!
I love your demonstrations of Norwegian cooking. It updates and reminds me of so many of the foods I ate as child, but have lost track of here in America. Keep teaching me. Thank you very much and Merry Christmas.
My father and I have been making our versions of cabbage side dishes since I was a child.. I'm not Scandinavian but of mainly German heritage, it's a main stay in our family for generations. I'd like to see more baking recipes ...!
I love the cooking videos! Thankyou for all of your great videos. My husband would agree with Arne that the sauerkraut is better. His German side of the family served red cabbage for all holidays. He says he is never eating it again.
Thank you both so much for sharing your life and work through your videos. They help me remember our shared humanity at a time when so much is uncertain for our future. Especially here where I am, in the US.
Thank you Arne and Carlos I love your cooking videos. I really enjoy seeing what dishes people eat in different parts of the world, for the festive season. Wishing you a relaxing and peaceful Christmas 🎄and Happy 2020 🥂🍾🎊 and of course, Moose guard Freya too.
Wonderful recipes, thank you Arne & Carlos! On a different topic, several commenters have asked if you can post photos of the moose around your property, sometime. It would be great to see them.
Today you took me back to childhood Christmases at my grandparents farm. Grandma Elma (Ankerson) Hanson made a creamy coleslaw with slivers of carrots and apple that was so delicious. Glade Jul!
Once again ,I so enjoyed being in your kitchen. That red cabbage looked beautiful as did the white one. I too am cooking red cabbage plus savoy cabbage for Christmas Dinner. I shall try one of your recipes . Thanks for sharing , Bone Appetite.
So interesting to see you cooking saurkraut! We ferment ours for many weeks before it's ready. Also interesting to see it done with red cabbage. We always use white. We also eat it with pork, and in the U.S., it's a tradition for many of us to have it for dinner on New Year's Day. I'm excited to try it your way. Much quicker! Thank you for teaching us!
Delicious, glad that you are broadening your horizons with us, love both sweet and sour cabbage. When you said carob, I was thinking of my ‘hippie’ days when I would give my daughter carob instead of chocolate for Easter...poor child. 😂 Enjoyed your fire crackling at the end.
This puts me in the mood for cabbage now , my mum used to cook potatoes, white cabbage and boiled smoked ham ribs ( use water as a ham stock for soup - lentil or pea and ham with ham bits ) yum yum :)
That looks SO good! My little chihuahua had her attention on the video the whole time while Freya was barking. LOL She growled once. I'm just knitting on a pair of Christmas socks for my husband while I watch your video. Take care!
This was so entertaining! My mother is full Norwegian and we only make lefse and krumkake for Christmas. I'm going to venture into cabbage dishes! Thanks! 🎄
Good evening to you both and Freya of course. We are definitely going to make the red cabbage dish this week. Arne, your facial expressions make us laugh all the time.
Poor Carlos soldiering on with a cold ; and wonderful Freya in the background. I have Lily (Jack Russell) that also thinks she sees Mooses in the garden here in Holland .
Watching some episodes that I haven't seen yet and happen to have 3 cabbages in my fridge... some apples, too. Thanks for the delicious food ideas. I'll be thinking of you while I'm cooking. Quiet dog here, no moose in S. California. Love the video. All the best!!
It's nice to hear that Norwegian and Dutch sound almost the same. ;) In Dutch it's rode kool and zuurkool. In our rode kool there is an option for cloves or apple. I like it with apple. :) The zuurkool we eat with bacon and smoked sausage (the way I used to make it) ;) But it's been a while since I've eaten it. :) So maybe it's time to make it again.
Wonderful to see you making both the sauerkraut and rotkraut (spelling?) I've made the red, but I'm going to have to try making your white cabbage. My family will be thrilled! Thank you for giving us a peek into your lives and for all your wonderful videos. Now all I have to do is finish the never ending scarf...next time I will do the math for my cast on. I have yet to count the stitches...the yarn really grew.
I love cabbage ! I will be trying both of these, I love sauerkraut and I've never had it this way. I like it raw as well Arne, I always sneak some too...lol Thank you for the recipes, have a wonderful week, Christmas is almost here !
Good evening guys boy you had my mouth watering both cabbages look scrumptious. I am having a sort of Swedish meal for Christmas with meatballs and swedish sausage boiled egg potatoes. So seeing you doing cabbage might just be right with the meal. There must have been a herd of moose in the garden as Freja was having a ball barking bless her. So another evening has finished can't wait for the pod cast next week. Stay safe, keep warm and look after each other kram x
some vegetarians do eat butter but yes it's easy to replace with plant butter right or most likely coconut oil. Thanks for sharing your wonderful recipe and selfs with us. I love cabbage anytime mostly though in a simple stock and then i eat it like crazy, it kind of already has a butter flavor that way.
I so enjoy watching your cooking videos. The cabbage recipes are so familiar to me. My father used to make several of these when I was young. His name was Arne and was from Oslo.
Yum. Thank you for the new recipies. I made your lamb and cabbage recipe last year. I am listening to you both as I bake Christmas cookies. Love to you all including Freya. Happy Christmas and a wonderful new year.
I just looked your video and I was astonished to hear that Sauerkraut and Rotkohl are typical for Christmas in Norway! Just 2 hours ago I prepared rorkohl for our Christmas dinner on 24. December. And I will tell you what I used. Aceto balsamico rosso, only a little bit sugar and salt, sliced onions, the same spices as you and at least some dried cranberries or jam from dark berries. For me Rotkohl must be sweat!! And I cook it a little bit longer than you until it's dark red and really 😋. Have a good time and enjoy your life with beautiful snow at Christmas. Greetings from Berlin 🎄❄️🎄
I love your cooking videos! I replay the old ones sometimes. Those dishes looked very tasty. In 1969 I was lucky enough to live/study in Denmark for 6 months. The red cabbage was always served along beef. Yum!

If you sprinkle a little bit of baking soda over cooked purple cabbage it will turn blue. It's fun to eat in the winter when snow is falling.

Most of us grew vegetable gardens and visiting friends meant being treated to fresh sauerkraut, perogies, cabbage rolls, sausages, fresh Italian pasta and sauces...food that my friends parents might have thought humble but we thought were better than any restaurant anywhere. I still love a good homemade sauerkraut with fresh ground pepper.

Lol... cleaning up the kitchen while watching this video. Guess what has been simmering this evening... rode kool (Dutch, meaning red cabbage). In Flanders it’s not typical christmas food. But we also use apples and more or less the same spices.
Our dinner tomorrow: red cabbage, boiled potatoed and... sausages.
Smakelijk!
