I watched this tribute to JT on AXS TV earlier today. He was chosen as Person of the Year by Music Cares back in 2006, and several artists paid tribute to his music. This song made me weep with its beauty. She's lovely.

algonacchick Thanks for sharing the background regarding this performance. I hadn't heard about James' selection for this tribute, but he sure deserves it. He seems to genuimely be one of the good guys in the music business and his gentle and kind spirit comes through in this and many of his songs to the point of making me weep a bit when I think on them and especially when I hear them. I live in North Carolina but spend most of my time on the highway in my 18 wheeler.
"Dark and silent late last night I think I might have heard the highway calling. Geese in flight and dogs that bite."
Just last Tuesday outside Knoxville I saw a flock of Canada geese, flying under the quarter moon migrating south.
Two weeks ago, I was at a IMS check station in Texas. The guards had a German Shepherd up on my running boards sniffing my cab. I petted the dog on the head. The guards yelled "DO NOT pet the dog. He will bite!!"
Well he didn't bite me I am the buddy of all dogs, and cats too.
Anyway, the highway is calling, geese are in flight and dogs may bite. But, I am going to Carolina in my mind.
Forty years ago James Taylor wrote this song for me. Thank you, James, Alison, and Jerry.

Scott Lewis Beautifully said, Scott. I've been through the Carolinas twice, when I was in college, age 20, fifty years ago. But the beauty of the mountains along I-85 around Salisbury was spectacular, and I remember them still, to this day. They left an indelible imprint in MY mind, and the words in the lyrics were almost ironic. I was on my way to Louisiana to visit my uncle, and I estimated it would take 2 and a half days. It did. But going through Virginia and the Carolinas was worth the effort. Absolutely pretty country. It was difficult to concentrate on my driving. I remember making a mental note to consider the Carolinas for my retirement, but a bad back and chronic pain burst that bubble. So I can only dream about them, and talk about them on RUclips.

I’ve listened to this song by Alison many times and I’m always amazed at this young lady’s perfect ( to my ears) voice. I don’t think I have ever heard a bad note sung by her. Jerry Douglas, dobro maestro supreme. Just a wonderful collection of musicians and singers. I think James Taylor definitely would approve of this rendition.

Saw her play at Sanders Theater at Harvard in 1988, when she was 17. I stepped out of the headliner's set to go to the restroom, & bumped into her in the hallway. I told her she did well land she gave me a shy thanks and a shoulder squeeze. An affectionate, sweet girl.

I can't even watch this anymore. After watching her do this I thought I was going to stop breathing it's just too beautiful. 20 years ago my 13 year old son Sam went to the mailbox to see if his Xbox magazine had arrived. A newly licensed driver tried to take a 90 degree turn at 70 mph and lost control. My son had no chance to run, no chance to react. I didn't witness him getting hit. His head was trapped underneath the car for 4 minutes. I got home right after the driver drove forward to free my son. I got out of my car and everyone that lived in my apartment building parted like the sea. I saw my son on the ground. I ran to him, threw everything I had in my arms everywhere and straddled my son's body. His head was smashed 4inches in the ground. I dug him out,his body was lifeless,eyes glazed and his face was ripped apart. I held him and told him " Mom's got you" "Can you hear the sirens?" " Can you hear the helicopter blades of the lifeflight helicopter?" They're all coming for you Sam& I refuse to let him go. They put him on life support so my huge family could say goodbye. He died the next day April 11,2003. James Taylor was the only musician I could listen to for a year. Then I saw this. I never thought JT could be topped but Alison Krauss blew my mind. I love you Sam❤ Love,Mom
