    "Carolina in My Mind" will always be one of James Taylor's signature songs, but this cover by Alison Krauss' is a beautiful tribute to the original. Of course, Krauss could sing twenty pages randomly selected from the phone book and it would sound beautiful. Truly one of the best and most original voices country music has ever produced.

      +Sean Rumney If you do a search on Douglas, the instrument he plays is called a resonator guitar, but I call him a dobro player, too, because he plays it flat. When you watch others play resonator guitars -- really good players like Colin Lindley and Bruce Cockburn -- they hold the resonator just like any other guitar.

    • @Umuliuz
      @Umuliuz 8 лет назад +5

      +Jeff Samin I´ll add to this. Jerry also plays a flat neck, wish is made for laying on the lap, not rounded like a normal guitar neck. And the string height on that ting is ridiculous. Probably awesome for clean slide playing, but I like to be able to fret the stings once in a while :p

    Jerry is rated one of the best acoustic Bluegrass musicians in the world, and he supports her vocals as well... And Alison has no comparison; she puts her own signature on every song she sings. The voice of an angel. Together they perform like a finely tuned instrument.

    Truly a gift from God. This made me weep it was so beautiful. Heaven must have this playing on loud speaker. James Taylor helped me go through the weary days after the sudden accidental death of my 13yr old son Sam. He was 13yrs old, 2003. He went to see if his X-box magazine arrived in the mail and was hit by an out of control car that tried to take a 90degree turn at 70mph. He will be 31 the 26th of this month. I miss you baby. Love, Mom❤💋 I can't believe it's been 17yrs. Thank you so much for posting this for it is yet another restless night for me. ❤

    I used to have a bumper sticker on my car which read "Minds Are Like Parachutes, They Only Function When Open". Those who dislike this song are entitled to their opinions, BUT what a terrible waste, what they are missing out on my being narrow minded and not able to appreciate true talent. There is SO much good music out there from the big bands of yesterday, to blues, to jazz, to rock, to country. This is a song that is pure artistry, pure beauty, an angelic voice and just such an awesome arrangement. Please be open to the music around you, the world around you, the talent around you and the beauty around you. I had cancer 3 1/2 years ago and lost my husband last summer to cancer as well. Listening to this song brings peace to my heart and mind. Thank you Allison for sharing your gift with all of us.

      +Sharon Lea Music is a powerful thing, isn't it? It sustained me through over 150 days of hospitalization, for surgeries and chemotherapy (bone cancer) way back in 1974-76. The old Service Book Hymnal Lutheran liturgy became sung prayer for me, and we had a great alternative rock station in the Seattle area, which introduced me to Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Leo Kottke and so many others. I turned 70 yesterday, and I'm still listening, and still singing.

    I, a true Carolina Tar Heel boy, was languishing away in Tehran before the revolution, miserable in the summer dust, heat, and oppressiveness, plus a serious homesickness coming on - Fourth of July is not the same there. I was listening to USA radio letting homesickness overtake me, then the JT version of this bittersweet melancholy yearning for refuge of a song came on. I just dissolved into weeping of the sweetest longing, which comes back vividly every time I hear it. I still think of my vision of the great green oaks, and expansive lawns on North Campus that contrasted so much to the heat and traffic and noise and dust of Tehran, a virtual image of heaven. As much as JT means to me, Alison sings with more longing and soul - the things I treasure about this song. And listen to Jerry's magnificent lines that perfectly complement this angel voice! Seems I have something in the eye.

      Please check out Eric Clapton singing and playing a dobro on "Running on Faith," on "Clapton Un-Plugged." It's the best dobro playing that I've ever heard. You're welcome.

    • @rickbrown1486
      @rickbrown1486 10 лет назад +13

      theoriginalbadbob While Clapton plays wonderful slide guitar on a dobro for "Running on Faith", for sheer expertise, playing ability, breadth of knowledge, nobody trumps Jerry Douglas as a dobro player...nobody.

    • @theoriginalbadbob
      @theoriginalbadbob 10 лет назад +2

      That's because he plays it like a steel guitar.

    • @manningbartlett522
      @manningbartlett522 9 лет назад +5

      theoriginalbadbob That how dobro is meant to be played.
      Clapton played it like a regular guitar because he never learnt to do it the proper way (no disrespect to Clapton obviously, you can'do everything).
      But Jerry Douglas is the undisputed master - Clapton himself says that on his official website. (BTW Clapton guested on Jerry's last album).
