No part of me would have EVER expected to see an aikatsu video in 2024. The fandom is so dead I am glad to see people have the same reaction as my own. I got into aikatsu purely just for the anime without even understanding it was an ad for their cards lol. i found myself keeping up with all the new seasons of aikatsu that would come out. I've grown out of it now but man i loved it.
It was honestly the reverse for me, i LOVE THE GAMES AND CARDS i also enjoyed the anime but there's nothing that makes me happier than to go into the arcade with my stacks of cards

To me the series was at its peak story-wise in Season 1, and design-wise S2-S3. My favorite dress is Akari's final premium rare in Season 4 tho, I feel like it achieved what Ichigo's final premium in Season 1 couldn't: an ethereal design, but in Akari's case it was harmonious, it didn't feel like too much stuff to look at.

Design anyalisis is my absolute favorite subject and im glad Aikatsu got explored like this because these designs are actually incredible and WORTH exploring. This also really clarified some thoughts i had about designs in general which i didn't think id get anywhere 🤭 great video as usual
This was a fun video ^^ Now I understand how the themes go into the outfits throughout the franchise as well as the characters ^^ Angely Sugar, Magical Toy, Dreamy Crown, Vivid Kiss, Rainbow Berry Parfait, Romance Kiss, FuwaFuwa Dream, Sugar Melody and Material Colour are my favourites because they fit into the characters who embrace it and I always imagined myself in the coords featured ^^ Great video as always ^^

SUBRSCIBED! Literally the reason why I was into "Japanese Idols" was because of this franchise and basically made me become a better artist when seeing their outfits because HELLO?! I really enjoyed this video :)
I feel like toward the end of season 4 the theme of all the outfits leaned towards making the idols look like royalty, since the ending heavily focused on the Starlight Queen Cup. Almost all of them I feel had some sort of royal motif somewhere in their designs, and I'm pretty sure all of them had an elaborate headpiece to represent a crown. It's almost intentional that Akari's brand Dreamy Crown, which is literally based around a royal motif, managed to win the whole thing.
Even through all the style evolutions, the lolita style remains a clear influence over Aikatsu's fashion, particularly in the silhouettes, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I love this bold, over the top take on outfit design so much, but not so overblown like how Pripara likes to do their coords. Influenced my sense of taste in outfits immenselly and I cannot go back. But Akarigen really did have the best designs. Though I'll agree the last PR's were a bit all over the place in quality, the rest are so strong I don't mind. Dolly Devil had so many coords I adore, and the colours they used were perfect. Dreamy Crown as a brand overall is just very impressive in its cohesion to me, the PR lineup has no misses, nothing below an S rank. Thumbelina Bouquet my beloved. Loli Gothic reached its full potential this generation. I mourn we didn't get more from my other favourite brand, Aurora Fantasy, this gen, I would have loved to see what more designs they could have come up with. I think an interesting route they could have gone with the final Akarigen PR's is they're meant to be the girls "final form" in some way, like this is what their efforts have culminated into, since that's what Akari and Sumire's feels like to me, and to an extent Hinaki. The White Sky Veil coord just fits Akari perfectly, how she's the wide blue sky to Ichigo's sun and Mizuki's moon. I love the way the white fades into darker shades of blue, and the flower petals scattered across the skirt and the edges of the top. Hinaki's final PR is just fine, I wish it could have been pushed further, but I love how it has a different silhouette while still looking like a PR, fitting Hinaki as a character. Sumire's last PR resembling an unconventional queen is great, and I love its gothic monarch vibes, but in the context of the theme I gave, this is one of the few times I'll say the Photokatsu upgrade would be superior; it encapsulates Sumire in her entirety, and like she is not only fully embracing her nickname as the ice flower blooming on the stage, but going beyond it. I've always thought it was sad how limited Stars was in terms of brands, but the way you explained it really put into perspective why making fewer brands with broader theming was a good move. Though My Little Heart had such a drastic change in direction regardless. I actually really like both era's, especially MLH's Girly Antique set, but they're just so different it feels jarring. I wish they'd either made a new brand for Aria or did something nuttier, like combine Aria's style with Lily's and rework Gothic Victoria, a brand that is already rigidly in the goth style compared to the other brands broader themes. Combine them and make an all-round fantasy centered brand instead, that could have been interesting. I usually don't like the modern, graphic style, but Material Colour is an exception, or at least its PR's are. I just love the bright colours and how sleek it all looks. Other than that, no brands in Friends really stand out to me as noteworthy. The theming and ideas felt lacking, even if a few PR's stand out. Classical Ange's first PR is really pretty, and I'm soft for Luna Witch's PR cause I'm a sucker for witch themes. But like half the brands felt almost... superfluous. Like why aren't Luna Witch and Moon Maiden combined into one brand. It feels silly they're not. They're not different enough to warrant making *two* brands focused around moon and night theming. Sugar Melody and Classical Ange are both cute type brands with an elegant air. And the concept of Friends (units, not the show) brands never really went anywhere interesting either. And Milky Joker's first PR is an abomination of a design, and I'm not afraid to say it!!! Nothing about your brand is "scary-cute" or different Mirai it looks like a bland eccentric Aikatsu Pop brand!!! 'Identity' is wasted on this brand!!! Ahem. Sorry. Great video, love the topic, Aikatsu fashion is such a fun discussion to have and listen to.

I also with the Friends twins would've stared a brand like Nono and Risa (who even got TWO Jewelry BOOM coords). Material Colour was really hard to describe for me but now I appreciate it a lot more

Yeah, it's possible they wanted the brands to be more unique in the audience's eyes. Since the only time brands were shared was during transitions like Ichigo Gen to Akari Gen and S4 to the new girls in Stars

They have SUCH AMAZING fashion in this show, it breaks my heart that it’s not talked about as much as I feel it deserves I really hope the day comes where I run into aikatsu fans/cosplay for purchase/cosplay groups/song covers/dance covers and stuff as frequently as I do love live I don’t hate love live but I def prefer aikastu over it in some aspects and I’m bummed that it’s harder to find people who share this interest(aikastu fashion/music/dances/plot/characters..) than it is for other idol anime 💔

Once again nice video and I really do like the way you talk about fashion in your videos. I like a lot of premium rares from the show but I love the cool type brands such as Dance fusion, Futuring girl, material Color, and Spice Chord.
This show, pripara, love-live and the lolirock all lived in the same category for me so I ignored them while airing but I remember them. The only one I watched was pripara because I loved the main character's (Lala?) design, I ultimately dropped it for a lack of expected magical girl precure-ness, but you mentioned pripara here, could you explain how it differs from Aikatsu?
at 10:12 i would disagree with some of the designs being weaker! i feel like maybe some of them are not the most conventional ways of displaying the theme (say, not as straightforward as the dream crown odettes dress with the swan textures) but they had some interesting interpretations going on! specifically for loligothic and futuring girl i think some of the shapes/motives used are more subtly hinting and the theme and i enjoy the variety honestly clicked on the video because im curious about peoples stars outfits opinions but i love the analysis points you bring of the first season! very enjoyable watch (also hey, we crossed pasths on tumblr haha)
sadly also in the later series they fell victim to the dreaded PRs being recolours of previous coords of the past... I have been watching since the start and loved it so much and I still do when its good its amazing with its coords but when its bad... we see recoloured rares becoming prs...
@@cureice sadly a lot of the cute coords suffer from this as wither the brands are very similar in themes or mainly because out of the starting 4 types it has the most to take from in general
@justthinkingaboutthings Yeah, I can definitely see that. The types get really self referencial especially the "spade type" brands. It's all butterflies and roses which are also used in gothic and cute coords so it's not that distinct
@@cureice its so heart breaking too because the brands deserve to shine for their idols and be their own things not.. worse versions because they just have copy pasted parts that are recoloured and more importantly allowing the idols to be different and not feel like copies of the past
After seeing Decade fusion form, any design isn't tacky enough and acceptable 😂 I wish there are more normal coord, last year game Fashion Dreamer (from creator of Pripara games) shows that there are still market for this, I would like to see more mix and match between different set and also options for colors. where is new aikatsu game for switch!!!!

I like s3 concept, angel alice and magic midnight is my favorite, but they introduce many new brand just for 1 character instead explore old brand

Once again nice video and I really do like the way you talk about fashion in your videos. I like a lot of premium rares from the show but I love the cool type brands such as Dance fusion, Futuring girl, material Color, and Spice Chord.

This show, pripara, love-live and the lolirock all lived in the same category for me so I ignored them while airing but I remember them. The only one I watched was pripara because I loved the main character's (Lala?) design, I ultimately dropped it for a lack of expected magical girl precure-ness, but you mentioned pripara here, could you explain how it differs from Aikatsu?
Pripara is a zany humorous show with more personal narratives.
The music and outfits are also a lot more childish. It's a lot funnier though

at 10:12 i would disagree with some of the designs being weaker! i feel like maybe some of them are not the most conventional ways of displaying the theme (say, not as straightforward as the dream crown odettes dress with the swan textures) but they had some interesting interpretations going on! specifically for loligothic and futuring girl i think some of the shapes/motives used are more subtly hinting and the theme and i enjoy the variety
honestly clicked on the video because im curious about peoples stars outfits opinions but i love the analysis points you bring of the first season! very enjoyable watch (also hey, we crossed pasths on tumblr haha)

sadly also in the later series they fell victim to the dreaded
PRs being recolours of previous coords of the past... I have been watching since the start and loved it so much and I still do when its good its amazing with its coords but when its bad... we see recoloured rares becoming prs...

@@cureice sadly a lot of the cute coords suffer from this as wither the brands are very similar in themes or mainly because out of the starting 4 types it has the most to take from in general
@justthinkingaboutthings Yeah, I can definitely see that. The types get really self referencial especially the "spade type" brands. It's all butterflies and roses which are also used in gothic and cute coords so it's not that distinct
@@cureice its so heart breaking too because the brands deserve to shine for their idols and be their own things not.. worse versions because they just have copy pasted parts that are recoloured and more importantly allowing the idols to be different and not feel like copies of the past

After seeing Decade fusion form, any design isn't tacky enough and acceptable 😂 I wish there are more normal coord, last year game Fashion Dreamer (from creator of Pripara games) shows that there are still market for this, I would like to see more mix and match between different set and also options for colors.
