Id probably go for the 42099 as its cheaper with a fair fight against the other one and theres many more models of 42099 then there is the other one and lastly the 42099 has gear swaps super quick can decrease the speed and increase the torque and you can increase the speed and decrease torque so overall 42099 best option in my opinion
You can flip the gears for more torque
42070 has greater modding potential. 42099 is too small to do anything major with it, except switching the gears to make it an actual crawler. 42070 however, has more space to work with, and the motors are not a major part of the chassis.

it is strong but you can gear swap it aswell
The problem is that the buggy's/crawler's motors have potential but if there's too much stress on them it will cut power as a safety feature. So for the buggy the problem is the software. This can be solved by swapping gears. there's a video about it by the Racing Brick.
I've tried it and it works well after swapping
The performance is equal considering the size and power of the ATVs.

But the crane functions on the 42070 make me so indecisive. This vid doesn’t go over those.
As someone who RC Crawls, these look amazing but are painfully disappointing as soon as they move. Would love to mount one on an Axial chassis though.

one of these sets is significantly heavier than the other...
This comparison is odd and dumb. One is clearly built for off road, the other a service vehicle made to pull a vehicle. It’s comparing Apples to Grapes. 👎🏽

You’re right, funny enough I just got it for Christmas. It is in fact awesome. I recommend it. But be weary of the price tag. It’s 200 usd.

In the 42099 model, if you switch the beige and black wheel in the front and rear motors, you'll get better "offroad" performance, but losing some speed.
I haven't tried it yet. I will do it when 42110 defender will be available.

XD the 42099 is better in performance lol in stock class but the modification potential of the 42070 is better... if only lego used a v2 pf ir on it... it would make the xl pf motor a total beast and increase performance by a lot.

Oh man. Bad comparison: 42070 has only 1 motor, is heavier and has a completly other purpose. 9398 has 2 motors and is way better designed for offroad stuff
9398 has only one motor, is over 8 years old and it still is better than 42099

I heard this before, maybe you're right. I would do video, but i don't have 9398.
It is slower but much more torque.
Der Abschleppwagen hat nur einen Bruder zum Fahren der andere hat zwei Motoren und ist leichter also ich würde sagen es steht fest warum außerdem ist der Abschleppwagen viel älter

1) why the comparison? One is sold as an all terrain vehicle not the other
2) why not compare the crawler made out of the pieces from the tow truck to the actual crawler? Better test!
3) motor turned off... Well,as we see you click the side gearbox, it means that not only was it off, it was disconnected from the wheel, so it was easier for the crawler...
4) wow... I didn't expect the tow to win the strength test...

Here's the thing. The buggy/crawler has a not enjoyable safety feature where it cuts power to the motors if there is too much stress.

2 of the worst Lego technic models of all time. Oh my God, how much Lego has fallen from grace. Basically every crawler that has come out with power functions instead of powered up or control+ ist superior to these disappointments.
