finally a tutorial that really helps.. been lost for days here and there on the net trying to find a starting point and simply breathing the right way... clear, simple, helpfull..and adorable :)
Oh my goodness this is game changing for me. I have had asthma since childhood and always find myself breathing through my belly this just feels so much better. It's really tricky to get the hang of because I've been belly breathing since I was a kid. But I get so much more oxygen when I breathe through my ribs. And I noticed my posture straightened up immensely. Thank you 💗
Amy, thank you so much! It is one of the best explanation (apart those given by my Pilates teachers) I’ve ever seen on the web. And, everything is 7 minutes. Well done!
Excellent, she is breathing correctly & is also demonstrating in how people breath incorrectly. It's spot on! The only exercise where the Pilates Breath is/can be ignored is the One Hundred though the TVA are always engaged.
This is brilliant. I’m in training and I’m having trouble with breathing with some of my friends that I am teaching, two of which I am practice teaching this weekend. I’m aware of the band and ball for ribcage feedback, but the bag of rice is great. I’ll probably use my flax heating pad tomorrow to see if it gets good feedback.
Hello Amy, I would like to learn to engage my core for the purposes of dance. However, when I try this exercise, breathing doesn't feel natural or particularly comfortable and I obviously need to be relaxed and breath quickly when I dance. Does it become more comfortable/natural with more exercise?
No Arch in back ? I was diagnosed with osteoprois , as my husband viewed the swan, that seemed it might not be good for this arching the back like that can you explain.
So your basically breathing through your chest using your diaphragm and exapanding it as I see instead of belly breathing like what runners might practice doing is that correct?
Those muscles haven't been working like they for many years. Give it time. Do some pilates workout. Good luck. Avoid plyometrics till your body is strong

OMG This video is 10 years old, and the best explanation I've watched thus far. The epitome of evergreen content! Thank You!!
This was the best demonstration and explanation I've found yet as I try to learn Pilates and explain it to my fitness class.

Such a clear explanation. Bag of rice is a perfect aid for practicing without supervision.
Getting back into teaching mat classes. Thank you for the refresher🙏🏻❤️
This video is really the best explanation I have seen as well. Thank you!

正😄多謝,好仔細🙏🏻so details👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks for this. Belly breathing is relaxing and lateral breathing is more focus to engaging your abdominal muscles to strengthen and tone.
I just started to practice pilates and this video helped a lot. Obrigado (thank you)!

Is your back suppose to hurt a little bit after practicing this breathing technique?
I'm a little confused about the 5 inhale/ exhale, I imagine it is a count of five in and five out which is sorta the depth... Is that correct.
so the abdominal muscles are always contracted either in inhalation and exhalation?
What if I don’t feel the breathe expanding around my upper oblique area like you first demonstrated?
very good, explanation :)
