That said, it comes down to your personal preference.

Great review, you did exactly what I have been after, and gave the direct comparisons between the two amps in an A/B side by side. It's really annoying Marantz didn't put HDMI eARC on the Model 30, as this is my preferred amp, but it's not a deal breaker.

Excellent comparison. They both sound like good units, but I’m sure I’d likely prefer the 40n based on my preferences. Thanks for the thorough comparison!
Thank you! - I think your assessment of the Model 30 is bang on. I use slightly rolled-off Elac Uni-Fi UF5 towers and Dirac room correction which solved many of the 'bright' issues you discussed. Leaving me with all the goodness the Model 30 has to offer. Also using the Topping D90SE DAC which is fairly analytical giving amazing detail and sound-stage with layering\separation... I know what you mean about modern music vs jazz, acoustic, etc. Thankfully the later is my general preference... Once again thank you for making this video! :)
I was using two Dual Rel Subwoofers with the Model 30 thesourceav.com/products/rel-t-9x you can set the crossover manually by ear via the back of the subwoofer based on the the speakers you are using and your room. It's actually quite easy and I find no need for any DSP once you get the hang of it. @charles king
Great review, I was watching as I currently have the Marantz 7000n and want to connect two subwoofers, I noticed you have two, how did you connect the two Rel subwoofers to the model 30?
I'm using a single Rel T7x and I tried hooking it up to the 40n both ways...I much more prefer the sub out and using the built in low pass sub filter output...When I used high level connection coming off the RL outputs...it integrates well but seemed to take away power from my speakers
If i have the Cinema 40 which one would make more sense? I would guess the Model 30? Both have an HT bypass but i wouldnt need the streaming ability of the 40n as far as i see it.
Get the Model 30 and add the Rose 150B or the Atoll ST300 Signature as digital (hi-res) source player and you are good to go... Furthermore, the damping factor is 1'000 (!) and power is 2 x 283 watts @4 ohms as tested by the German Stereo magazine - enough to drive / control demanding speakers.
We are not a JBL Dealer but based on the specs I pulled up online the 40n should have enough power to drive your JBL sensitivity: 88 dB, power handling: 25-125 watts RMS, impedance: 8 ohms depending on your distance to the speakers and room. The I/50 would also likely fall in the range as well but again will depend on your room and distance to the speakers. Here are the specs on the 40n: 70 watts x 2 channels into 8 ohms (20-20,000 Hz) at 0.02% THD, 100 watts x 2 channels into 4 ohms. The I/50 is 50watts x2.
Great in depth review! Thank you! I have the Model 30 set and you are absolutely right. I feel it lack bass. I was wondering how you connected the REL subs to the Model 30 amp?
Glad it was helpful! You hook it up through REL's High Level Connection. REL high level connection means that you’re actually taking the output signal from the same amplifier terminals that feed your main loudspeakers and you’re feeding that forward into the REL sub so you are time aligned. Here is a link to the high end cable thesourceav.com/products/rel-bassline-blue, but when you buy a REL sub it will include the basic cable which can get you started. @SSS

Really wonderful presentation. Can you give me some advice, I'm not sure whether to buy this Yamaha amplifier AS 1200. or the Marantz 30 amplifier. The price in Serbia is similar. It seems to me that the Yamaha has a more powerful transformer and many more components inside, while the Marantz is stronger for 10 Watts. Your advice would be very useful to me, greetings.
Guys I need some advice, hint6, this marantz or nad399? I was told by a retailer that sells all three the nad399 sounds the best..... so happy I saw this vid, guys from this channel, I am buying soon, please direct my on my choice.
@78 Sound wish I could help, but I haven’t heard the NAD399 and we don’t sell them. I have personally owned NAD products in the past and found them to be decent but only when using Dirac with them. Otherwise they didn’t sound as good as similarly priced products. This is my personal opinion, not representative of TSAV. -****marcello
B&W 703 S3 with 40n is great combo. No mistake with that. Have this combo at home and its great combination. Worm sound of 40n and great mid and highs of B&W 703 S3 make it perfect for guitar music (rock, hard rock, industrial, metal...) and other modern like electro... Think that 703 S3 tweeter and model 30 would be to harsh on top (but didnt hear that combo just guessing). Maybe if you pair model 30 with CD 50n DAC (Maranc Network and CD player combo with great DAC inside) it will sound close to 40n but didnt hear that too so cant be sure. Should sound better because CD 50n have better DAC than 40n. But if you like warm sound of 40n you can pair model 50 analog amplifier (almost same like in 40n) and CD 50n. This would be better than 40n in resolution and sound quality but more expensive and two components. But trust me 40n sounds perfect as it is with 703 S3...
Your content is amazing. Keep up and in a year or two you be among most popular audio RUclipsrs. Currently I'm looking for an amplifier upgrade and can't decide between model 40n (I can get it with 30% discount) and famous chi-fi willsenton R8 tube amp. I'm using B&W 703 S2 loudspeakers. Any thoughts?
@Armands Eglitis thanks for your support! This is Marcello from TSAV, I personally own the 40n and love it! I also owned the Wilsenton R8 for a time but ended up selling it off actually to buy the 40n. I haven’t been disappointed with that choice. I do love tube amps too though and have a ARC I/50 which is better than the R8 in just about every way for my preferences. Not sure about the synergy with your speakers but it sounds like you can get a great deal on the 40n and it’s worth giving it a shot imo. Hope that helps!
Hi, great review of the 2 Marantz Amplifier. Very educational and insightful. Keep it up! Just need your insights, which of the 2 amplifiers pairs well with Focal Kanta no. 1? Which of the 2 can slightly tone down the high frequency and which of the 2 can drive the Focal Kant no. 1 at Low Level Volume? Thank you.
Hi @ralphlee4110 I didn't get to listen to them with your Focal Kanta no. 1 however if you are looking for the integrated amplifier between these two that may slightly tone down the higher frequencies the 40n sounds warmer and more organic than the 30, whereas the the 30 sounds more analytical, drier and detailed. Based on your speakers efficiency and specs either amplifier should be able to drive your speakers with the Model 30 having more power. I hope that helps!
Thanks for the review... a lot of info in 15 min...I have the model 40n...I like the class B amplifier...Sometimes I wish I had more power for tighter grip on my Dali rubicon 2 speakers...so the model 30 sadc makes a big difference Vs the model 40n? I didn't realize marantz model 30 was there flagship over the model 40n? I'm not a big fan of class D Amps so I'm guessing my model 40 has better overall sound quality? Although I'd love the extra wattage and hope the future replacement to the model 40n has a higher power output...I'd love to here the difference of the two...please tell me why one would need a DAC with these when it's already built in?
Hi, @Brian Campbell the Model 30 Integrated Amplifier has no DAC and is designed to be paired with the Model 30n Steaming SACD Player from Marantz, so it will need a DAC unless you are just listening to CD or Vinyl. Like you I preferred the sound of the 40n, which does have the built-in DAC and streaming capability, and bought it for one of my listening rooms at home.
@@TheSourceAVDesignGroup hey...tell me something honestly please...do you like the any of the Lyngdorf integrated amps sound better than the Marantz model 40n ?

With b&w 703s3....model 30 or 40n???
The Dali Rubicon 2 pair quite well with my 40n
Great points and review! Thanks!!!
Thanks, @Griff glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks a lot for providing me your insights.
Marantz model 30 or a Yamaha as1200 to drive some Wharfedale Lintons……thoughts anybody?
I own the model 40n...it's nice but not capturing my attention anymore, weak on power output...I would love to hear the 3 brands for comparison Advane Paris Myconnect 250 ....Anthem AVM 90 ... and Vincent SV-700
@Brian Campbell the 40n has great power output as long as it's matched with appropriate speakers. If you are looking for more powerful options the Model 30 from Marantz has more power or we also have McIntosh amps for loads of power and current. We don't carry those other brands you mentioned.
@@TheSourceAVDesignGroupPor ejemplo con unos Monitor audio silver 7g?, te recomienda un amplificador de 80 a 200 watios.
They release a CD60 for the 40n but not read SACD so is very silly
@John Smith I was hoping that it would be able to read SACD too, however the model 30n remains a terrific SACD option with a different flavor DAC too to change things up a bit thesourceav.com/products/marantz-sacd-30n-silver-gold
Its a shame both these amps look so ugly!
lol beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Would you have prefered the Macintosh look, lol
