Lisa Peacock Well thank you!! So many are intimated by the coverstitch machine I want them to like their machine and use it, not get frustrated and push it side or pack it up and never let it see the light of day again.
I found that having the silver screw on the top of the machine set 1/2” off the top machine is the best place to have it so any fabric feeds thru nicely. That screw controls your presser foot and to adjust it, measure from the right side of the screw until the top of the screw is 1/2” off the top of the machine. Once you get it there, leave it, you’ll find fabrics flow nicely under the presser foot smoothly. I sew all types of fabrics and have never had to adjust that screw.

@@DiannaAtherton no video needed, just hold a roller up next to the silver screw like I did in this video. What needle size are you using for this demo? I noticed you did not change needle size for the organza/netting and then for the organic fleece, and it seems to work just fine!.
Hi again Jeanette, I forgot to ask you where I can easily find the tiny screws that holds the needles. Each time I change the needles I am scared to death that I loose one and cannot find it as it is so small. I currently use an allan key because my friend cannot find her hex screwdriver. I found a site that sells both screws and screwdriver but first international shipping is suspended due to pandemic and second they charge at least 23.99 US$ to ship to Canada.
Dear Jeanette, I bought Brother CV3550cover stitch. I was watching you video very carefully and followed same way how to finish and lock the stitches. But every time when I finish my stitches and tried to pull the fabric from back it doesn’t come loose at all. To loose the fabrics from underneath foot I have to open front cover and pull side my looper and then I can loose the fabric out. I have to do this every time and my stitches keep breaking. Can you advice or any suggestions to prevent this step? How can I do easy Coverstitch? I am so frustrated that all money I have spent to buy this Coverstitch gone into drain. I show your video and I thought why can’t I do it like you and I followed exactly the way you have shown. Can you please help ?
Yes. jeanette. My main problem is my fabric keep getting stuck under th foot as soon as I start. I was watching your video very carefully and I started same like you and put my fabric leave at least 1” and then drop the needle using hand wheel for 2-3 stitches . But as soon as I start my fabric jam and when I release my looper button it frees the fabric but leave lots off tangled threads.
Hello Jeanette, I wonder if you can help me. I am new with a coverstitch, same as yours, and it is going very well so far. However, I am not quite happy with some stitches. I mainly work with light to medium weight stretch fabric for garments for my grandchildren. My stich is fine when I make wide seems (yellow and green) but when I try to make narrow stitches (yellow and pink) I find that the looper thread is quite loose on the back of the garment and it is not as pretty.. All tension disk are currently set at 4. So what tension disk should I change to make that looper thread sit properly on the fabric instead of being a little loose. Thanks so much, your videos are so helpful.
@@andreab919 I found that there’s a sweet spot. If you have the top of the silver screw 1/2” off the top of the machine you’ll never have to adjust again. When using the narrow setting, you may have to adjust the differential.

hi lovely .......question re setting and diff feed and needles and looper numbers for stretch fabrics for lycra and spandex......what would you recommend for your machine???......all new to me and am getting the same machine xoxoxoxoxoxox
Renee Polomski first, if sewing Lycra or spandex, I use an 80/12 sharp needle because the ballpoints seem to leave skipped stitches. As for settings, I recommend that you take scrap pieces of that type of fabric and practice so you can make adjustments to the needles, looper and differential to get them set where you sew without skipped stitches.
Not enough information on the settings. I use 70\10 stretch ballpoint needles on lightweight and seer knits , use decreased tension and still have skipped stitches on my coverstich 3550. I have no idea what else I could do to fix this
I don't have the Brother 3550 so my settings may not work for you. Refer to your manual for correct needles and as for settings, it's trial and error. This video was made to show others that thin fabrics can be coverstitched without tunneling by adjusting one setting. Again, my settings may not work for you it's something you have to experiment with thru practice and patience.
Hi Nino, I just bought Brother CV3550 too.
