I bought my 70 year old neighbour’s 2001 S15 for $1000 AUD a few months ago. It had a low speed crash 8 years ago and the radiator support was caved in, plus he drove the car home with a busted radiator.
It spent the next 8 years in a garage. When we pulled it out of the garage it was literally covered in thick dust. Gave her a wash. Paint came out good.
I’m in the process of resurrecting her. It’s going to be awesome when it’s said and done.
It has high mileage 225,000km but was always looked after.
A true barn find
Great buy/find! Would be a good YT series of finding it and documenting the rebuild if you have done so @ThumperBros
stoked on this
Would be so cool : The rebirth of 'Mona Lisa' from Fast and Furious - Tokyo Drift right ??!!!.. ;0)
@@poplaurentiu4148 nope.
@@poplaurentiu4148 yeah…no.
@@poplaurentiu4148 no sir.
@@k1wi_steve Steven & Larry.. c'mon guys what was so bad ? i was talking about cool tuned Silvia before got wrecked in that movie.. in movie, unfortunately got destroyed but that is another story, what is important that car was nice when Han give it to Sean.. and since Throtl build the Eclipse replica, and other tuners the orange Supra somone should also include somehow somewhere the 'Mona Lisa to be a classic cult.. ;0)
lol that’s from where I live here in Japan , got same color with sunroof S15 also and just finished up at the paint shop. Tochigi is north of Tokyo away from the ocean and if it’s clean underneath it’s most likely not from the mountain area up here. PS back wheel arches between the Spec R badge and the wheel underside rust loves to form just above where the front of the subframe joins the body..., just got mine sorted before it became an issue , might be good to get a light up in there and check carefully.
Isn't that. near Twin Rings Motegi?
@@popoclay5532 it is it’s about 30 minutes from my place so is Nikko actually kind of spoiled here 1.5hour away from Ebisu and 45 minutes away from Tsukuba also.
Pro tip, as I lived in Japan - google translate app uses your camera to translate japanese text in realtime. Useful for reading japanese stickers etc.
Beware Google translate will give you really ugly things and even wrong translations. Better speak Japanese IF you live in Japan
Japanese streets have messed up high curbs as in they are up from the road and then back down to the ground, looks like this guys driving your S15 might have mounted them , super easy to do. Rear rails they are made from tin the part the slots into the main rails and too many times people try to lift the car up from that point and they just crush in.
Alternatively the old owner use to drive this car at Nikko circuit lol it has a massive drop off after the straight so could have been that for the damage also , I do my best to stay off that drop off as much as possible 😂
I like the Nismo bumper and the oem tail light. The aftermarket tail lights looks cheap.
I must be the only one who likes a nice, clean, stock body S15 🤣
See my comment 👆🏻, you aren’t alone
Same
No. I wish they’d keep it 100% stock body, just restored. Looks way better. See too many with those kits on them and rear wings.
Same
You're not alone
I think you need a lower profile rear wing. the fiber glass one looks too tall. Just my thought.
I think the wing makes it look too dated. I think something more subtle would make it more timeless.
I agree. A little duckbill would be perfect.
No wang!
Dmax
Agree, stay wingless.
@@evanlegault2257 duckbill is mad underrated on s15
The tire wear on the inner edge looks to me like it's caused by toe so it might have always been on stock suspension but with the wheels out of alignment. Great find!
I feel the era of JDM cars is coming to an end, your average joe can't afford to purchase these vehicles anymore & has been priced out of the market. Ask yourself why would I spend $30k+ on this very old "used" car with high miles, when instead I could buy a brand new 2022 Subaru WRX/BRZ or Honda type R for the same money?
We keep saying the same thing. The whole fun of these cars was they were cheap so you carols use them without a care.
Because it’s a better car. Many people can afford a $30,000 car.
Millennium Jade is the colour you're looking for
Can’t go wrong with any speed academy videos these days. Definitely has moved as one of my favorites
You guys have so many parts, you just find them in the back bin.. so crazy! Your collection of cars is off the hook. Can't wait to see this and the FD finished.
I’d be lying if I said I liked all the extra body panels, I like the stock look. Lowered on a nice set of wheels. But that’s why everyone’s opinions are different, keep up the good work!
I literally subscribe just because of this JDM Silvia what a beauty.. my dream JDM can’t wait to see all the upcoming videos. Love all your clean projects my type of Statics😍🙌🏻
This channel is hands down the best when it comes to builds build quality and vehicle types. There just isn't a better more consistent channel imo.
My vote is spoilerless or like a simple lip/duckbill. Stoked for this one. Gives me chicken coop vibes with the sr and this chassis. Great video boys! Stoked to see it back from paint. Maybe a more dark gray silver. I feel like Mercedes has some cool silvers that could work we’ll
Put whatever wing you would like, it's your build! But personally, the tri-point spoiler is what makes this car unique and what made me fall in love with it as a kid.
You guys have the one of the best JDM collections out there!!!
How just a couple of years have changed the market! So happy to have been able to get you something decent and cheap for a build. Can't wait for the next episode!
Yes indeed, what would this car go for these days landed?
@@speedacademy For one of the absolute cheapest Spec R, R grade, high kms, possibly other issues, maybe around $18,000 cleared customs price CAD to Vancouver, BC. Worth noting that 80% of the units with public sales data are R grade these days.
One of the cheaper Spec R's with 120,000km and grade 4 sold for about $30,000 CAD cleared.
Once you get to the minty units with low kms and no repair history, you're in the $40-50,000 cleared customs price range CAD from auction.
A number of the really minty and low-km units are at dealerships in Japan. They're notoriously expensive, going up to $50-85,000 cleared customs price CAD at the top end if you didn't want to spend time looking, and purchase something right now.
To bad you guys don't deliver to the US or have a dealer here, trying to get my hands on an s15 and there are some shady importers showing up now over pricing everything smh.
The stock tail lamps are awesome and most aftermarket units cheapen the look of the S15. Also the tri-prop spoiler is very cool and makes the spec-R kit look complete. Highly recommend keeping the car looking OEM+.
I am going to start pulling out the seats out of the car Well that doesn’t make any difference I will Show you the NEWEST Car Nissan Silvia S15 SPEC R Coupe that I Choose for 2024 in The Next Year
And I will be Buying the Nissan Silvia S15 Spec R Coupe Brake Light Wing that I have buying at Dandenong Nissan
I am going to show you my newest colour car Nissan Silvia S15 Spec R Coupe
Another great car video and thank you for sharing this with us. Congratulations on such an awesome find.
I wish I was in a place to do these kinds of builds. (:
I might just be getting old, but I like the look of it as it is without the kit.
Think about how excited/relieved you guys were to find an unmolested example.
I feel the same. After seeing too many kitted ones of questionable taste makes appreciate stock more these days.
This is cool little car. Good luck on the build!
Hell yeah run that obnoxious wing, love it. Also agree on the silver bumper cover, that Nismo piece just doesn't go visually. This is gonna be great!
Hey guys, yellow sticker shows the manual transmission oil was changed with GL-4 at 204,840 km on March 3rd, 2018. Also the PitWork sticker says long life coolant on it. Maybe it was changed with long life coolant on that day as well 30年 is Heisei era 30 which equals 2018 and 3月 is March. Hope this helps a little bit.
That garage is now filled with all the JDM legends.. dream garage!
Heyyy just met Peter at my local Canadian tire!! Hi Peter lol so crazy seeing one of my favourite internet celebs in person. Weird to think we live so close anyways love the channel
Yeah not feeling that Nismo rear bumper. OEM with the spec r spats is the way to go like you said pete
Instead of the mesh look into getting a brake vent 3d printed i think that would make it look good and be practical
About time 😃😃 im on my second petwer s15 but will be getting painted. Rare to even see an undertray on one. They all rust id say dry ice blast the underneath and bay.
Heck of a deal you got. I say go bold and paint it Midnight Purple with black trim, wheels, intercooler, etc.
Uh they're not trying to get on the cover of Super Street lol
Love me some s15. Spec r bumper and oem rear lights is the way. This car is a beauty for a good price! Good find guys!
The not that cheap now
For how many cars you guys pump out, I think a "Speed Academy Edition" is needed for each car customized. They all need to be a uniform color going forward👌🏻
Yessssss everything you doing is perfect
The first time you see a circumcision is definitely a surprise; actually doing one is on a different level. Had to learn how to use a Mogen, Gomco, and Plastibell long ago.
Speed bump is a possibility.
Thanks for the vids guys. Always a treat. Cheers 🍻👍
Yeah, and by the way that wing is horrific. Think it will look its best with no wing at all. Sometimes we have to acknowledge that we're not 12 anymore.😁🥰
Love it and that's coming from someone who doesn't know anything about S15's. I am less a fan of silver, black or white. But I understand why sticking with silver is the way to go. Looking forward to this build.
I love the facts that you guys have literaly every jdm legend, one car miss the collection tho 😯 maybee its cuzz im an owner myself but the fairlady Z 300zx twin turbo veryy underated forr my personal opinion 😯😏
OEM parts are the way to go! The factory Aero kit (it was not Spec R specific) is hard to beat and really adds a lot to the bare body. A subtle aftermarket lip on the standard front bumper would be spot-on to match the Aero - I use an Aero Workz piece and it flows very well with my OEM skirts and spats.
You guys made some epicly timed vehicle purchases. God tier lineup! Hey Pete, sell me your 930!!
Yeah their collection of '90s royalty is almost complete, they just need a clean ZR-1 boat motor late model LT5 C4 Corvette, 300ZXTT, 3000GT VR-4, and a NSX to complete the stable!
@@anydaynow01 lol C4?? Come on... even the 3000gt/dodge stealth is a stretch. I personally would much rather have a clean 90s turbo MR2 and GC impreza with a clean sti swap (see Bucky Lasek's white GC). The 300ZX is still very affordable and likely due to it not being friendly to work on - those TT engine bays were packed real tight.
SO EXCITED!!!
I would go pearlescent silver over a more gunmetal base, something that will make all the trimlines and sharp edges pop in the sun. The s15 has amazing bodylines that are dulled by flatter colours
Cool vid! Idk why but the back end reminds me of my dad's old 2001 Pontiac Grand am hahaha!
I personally would run the Nismo rear bumper but drop that wing....but as I said before, looks are very personal.
Interested in what wheels you're going to run on it .....
I think this one would be a good choice for an RB25Neo when the SR craps the bed
No love for the deliciously dated center wing stand? That’s what gives it its unique character 😊
Oem rear bumper spatless is the best. Looks proper and doesn't cost more. Have mine original aero but removed the spats. So good now
Looking forward to next eps !
Mine looks the exact same but without the fog lights and sunroof! Awesome cars
I honestly think that OEM silver on it looks really well especially with a pair of dark grey or black wheels! So in my option I’d get a respray of the oem colour tbh!
I own a silver 99' SSS n15 Pulsar that was repainted but the previous owner actually added some blue flake into it... I was definitely happy with that idea, maybe an idea for this s15. Would love to have this thing, what a steal man. super jelly.
It's about time!
The Nismo bumper looks decent in my opinion, plus you already own it. I agree with painting the car a Skyline silver color, perhaps a three stage paint, if that's an option. Also, you could ask your painter to shoot an extra coat of clear for visual depth.
Audi Nardo Grey color would look amazing ❤️
I want these guys to do a full build on this Silvia so bad, on any car in general really
I work on the street that your shop is located. I see the Lexus all the time :) super cool
That is a good buy, so clean underneath.
Come on Pete you know you wanna do a full colour change. It's only three extra jambs. Do ittt
looking forward to this build
cant wait for the next episode
Inner tire wear is usually toe not camber. Love you guys and all the JDM goodness!!!
Silver and black two tone. Similar to the shiro special on the 300zx.
I like vintage styling on these cars and two tones are the long forgotten cool factor up until the 80s. And you can always do the two tone as a wrap so if you don't like it you can remove it.
The rear bumper isn't as agressive as the front. But it could work.
You're so right about the spoiler, the 3rd leg and high level brake light looks soooooo goofy on the standard Spec R Spoiler.
Spec R kit is perfect 👌
Fantastically I just liked them and they weren’t bad inside the Car Nissan Silvia S15 Spec R Coupe with the brake light wing on the back of the car
It's so hard not to like the S15. It's just got such an elegant and utterly timeless design and it's fantastic. The platform is also quite good for tuning. Such a shame that the US market never got them.
I like your ideas
I love s15’s
Waiting for us legality and not $100k😂
Then buy cheap 1...type s
Your rear tail lights are a winter back with intergrated fog light on the drivers side you also have the twin front and rear fog light stalk maybe.
These are extremely rare and worth a bit! As is the Sat Nav dash. The door protectors is another factory option
good job saving the windscreen that heated glass is another item worth a bomb !
I've seen damage like that caused by a driveway entrance over a culvert .
The little bridge over the culvert will have a raised edge of about the right height so that if you enter the driveway at too much angle the sill will hit it as the rear wheel enters the culvert instead of the driveway , you can do it coming or going and one side then the other and when elderly people start to misjudge distances they will do it multiple times.
Looking forward to this Mona Lisa build 😌😎
Look up Nissan colour code LH1 (misty gray), my S13 came with that and it's a beautiful silver with a blueish hue and looks stunning in the sunlight.
Tochigi is also where the Z/GT-R factory is located. I’m not sure if they also built the S chassis but I know they are where the Z and GT-R are manufactured.
Jsai aero in Australia do the aero sideksirts and end caps. Shipping might be bit high but Check them out ,! Fitment is great
Man I really dig the Spec R S15. Right up there with the Type X S13 for looks. Also the only S-chassis I'd feel guilty about engine swapping. Just a mild build on the SR20 would be tits. Like 350rwhp.
Might've had a set of wheels stolen at some point. Those types love to set the pinch weld down on bricks when they're done to get their jack back out.
My only wish is that you guys had more time and budget and interest in domestics lol. The internet/world could use some tasteful OEM+ builds on some Mustangs and Camaros and Corvettes. Your Mustang project was cool, but you need to revisit the later version of that chassis with the 5.0 Coyote. My uncle has a 4.6 3V and it doesn't respond well to anything besides boost. Unlike an LS and a Coyote. Gains can be had for a reasonable price with those engines. And like boost even more lol.
I dig the wing!
Really don't understand the online young generation kids hating on rear wings. It just looks atrocious without them, especially on the S15. That was the first thing I did on my S15 after importing it last year, bolting on an OEM-style Aero wing like yours. For the taillights + headlights I went for the 78 works, they totally transform the look with it's sequential indicators and DRL's. Will be following this build as I'm also contemplating on getting a respray!
Will have a look at the 78 works stuff thanks!
Millenium Jade is very good paint with Volks Rays CE28 Bronze Wheels 👍
Leave the car OEM silver. Though honestly I feel like this is another case of you guys already having made the decision and is already in the paint booth.
Car is still at the shop and we have months to decide on paint, theres alot of prep that still needs to happen before it gets sprayed.
Sunset fade please
@@speedacademy paint it white
Im going to apologize right off the bat for advocating scope creep, but is a 200k km SR20 due for a rebuild anyways? The front bumper might be expensive, but aren’t SR’s getting pricey as well? A “bit” of preventive maintenance could give it a chance at another 200k.
And while it’s out, you could make the colour change…
I like the stock sleeper look tbh
Never thought we would get circumcision talk on Speed Academy 😂
Just FYI: there are also Foglight surrounds to re-house the factory foglights for the spec R frontbumper, might be able to source them out and will look much cleaner than the mesh!
EDIT: Gunmetal Grey
EDIT2: those are either DMAX crystal taillights or ebay specials, also, might wanna get a trunk with the holes pre-drilled before drilling into a wingless boot
I don't know if you've decided on wheels yet but I would love to see a set of enkei rs05rr on the S15 it would look killer
Simply lovely Nissan!
For the color change I vote for Silverstone like the E46's had. I think that would look good since it has a light blue hue.
Second this. Silver highlights the curves that would be lost in another color
Tochigi is the prefecture east of Gunma (Initial D's prefecture). soo, mountains, natural hot springs, nature, traditional, etc. most likely or rather, of course, a good chunk of the odometer was made in mountain runs
you should go with the mid to late 00s bmw "sparkling graphite metallic".... super nice deep grey/silver
The yellow sticker was for transmission fluid, and the red Pit Work sticker says "Long life coolant"
The tyre wear isn’t camber wear, it’s excessive toe scrubbing the inside of the tyres. 👍
I’ve been wanting a s15 since forever
the tension rod bushings are done, they leak out tar like "stuffs" when teh bushings are torn
I would see if you could get a similar silver but with a colored metalic flake added, maybe not colorshift amounts of flake but somthing that will make it pop a bit more. I'd pick a different wing though.
What a steal.. big fan of the s15
Try hockenheim silver from the M2, looks different and great in all lighting
Cars engine is good -we did a drag race and everything seemed to be fine (love you guys lmfao)
I think a dark colour like gunmetal grey or anthracite would look awesome with some other black or carbon fibre highlights (lowlights?) around the car
Brilliant Silver with a blue flake in the clear.
It's not perfect, but you can use Google Translate on your phone through the camera. It will do a live translation of things like those stickers. Super cool!
Keep it silver! I know it can be boring but man it’s such a clean color to have
