It’s that time again… DRAG RACE TIME! We’ve got Mat’s new daily driver, the new BMW M3 Competition, going up against a tuned Nissan Silvia S15!
Think it’s pointless? Well trust us, this will be closer than you think! Starting off with Mat’s M3, it’s powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six which can produce 510hp & 650Nm. It drives the rear wheels only, and it’ll set you back about £75,000.
As for the Silvia, well it’s powered by a 2.1-litre 4 cylinder that’ll put down 600hp and 700Nm of torque. However, having bought the car for about £10,000, the owner’s spent about £65,000 on the build, so it’s also effectively cost him £75,000!

Hello Matt, I remember just this very week where you said, in a recent drag race video, we should comment what other tests you want us to suggest for you to do , so here are my 2 suggestions:
1. 0-100-0 test
2 . Do a U-turn race where you do a 1/2 mile drag race then after passing the half mile you brake as hard as you can and turn around and floor it , the winner is the first person to come back and cross the starting line.

That Silvia is a beauty, I almost feel like these races should be done without launch control because it takes out the human element, every new car with launch control will beat any other car without in the drag race even with lesser specs

I have added launch control and boost by gear to my 1984 Mitsubishi Cordia and is just as quick off the line as a gti golf, i30N or Civic R and at 950kg 300whp will walk away from them on the 1/4 mile.
@MrLewisBate Fine I have the original first ever Japanese hot hatch of the early 1980's with a modern evolution lancer 4g63t engine why would I be embarrassed it's worth more than more modern Honda's and quicker.
@MrLewisBate I don't care what my car looks like or it's brand name's reputation, I get lot's of people who use to own one saying they haven't seen one in year's on the road .
And surprising people on the street most give the thumbs up when I gap them , but there are a few that hurl abuse or road rage usually the one's with a their mate's in the car bagging the driver out for getting smoked by such an old car .

The brake test made me realize how unusual it is these days to see a car without ABS. Seeing a car in brake skid seems so "retro" now :) ABS saved so many lives, and here you can see why
Not really. With no abs you can control your car exactly how you want. You can't do that if you have abs.

Also "trying to brake hard while cornering", anyone into cars knows you only have so much grip and you have to divide a portion to braking and a portion to turning, Many driving schools will tell you to only brake without turning until you get to your corner entry speed, then once at the corner entrance you are rarely on the brakes at all (except maybe trail braking if need be) but you won't be braking hard AND cornering hard, its one or the other.
If you're still trying very hard to slow down as you're already into a corner that means you overcooked the braking zone because you're "still learning".
I've had cars with and without ABS, I like and understand the benefits of both.
Car enthusiasts (like people who watch car based youtube videos allot perhaps) can get by without ABS 99% of the time if you understand the limits of grip... say if you came from riding motorbikes aswell as cars (bikes haven't had ABS until very recently and you are VERY aware of grip limits). As such you can learn that when you start skidding quickly let off and then reapply gradually, The ability to feel and control that grip is a benefit... IF you are capable.
The other billions of people in the world who are not car enthusiasts won't understand this stuff, will just panic and slam on the brakes, In which case the car is typicaly smarter than the average joe which is why ABS is so helpful.
It's traction control in reverse (quite literally using the same wheel sensors).

Racing team with a larger budget vice a tuner making it happen. Quite a difference. Also I am sure this car has to last more than just one race.

Really do start to appreciate modern brakes...and especially how 4wd and launch control makes us forget how tricky rwd is to modulate off the line for the best times. It's a skill many are now losing...🤔

Loud fart exhaust noises also add nothing but headaches, and people hating you. That Sylvia build is ruined by that exhaust.

@@Roomer645 well its just pretty hard to get that all to the ground from a standstill without all the modern gearbox launchcontrol gizmos. in the roll race the power seemed very good in control.
i bet getting that silvia moving is ultimately more fun then just putting your food down in that boring m3.

All things considered, I respect how polite was Luke was. That Nissan Silvia S15 is beautiful. The microphone didn't quite pick up the exhaust sound and bass of the Silvia correctly though.

Please go in detail for like 10 seconds and tell us what kind of turbo(s) are on these cars, I'm sure a lot of us nerds are very interested in that.
That S15 responded very very well with a 600hp capable turbo/2,1l engine, I need to know these things!

My son has an S15 stroked 2.2Ltr, G30-770, tens of thousands of AUD spent and mine is a E92 M3 Comp pack proper V8 sucking air and I have never ever used launch control. I bought it after a ride with Tiff at Thruxton. Cheers, Rob Watson

Many people don't know that this Silvia is a beast at drifting - it's not made to perform at dumb quarter mile tests but the angles that Master Luke can pull in this S15, that Beemer will be in hedges in a few mins.
It's crazy how much grip the M3 has :o I've seen many videos now and this thing delivers every time. Still I would choose the Silvia 🙈

Really? Motec with traction control and wheel sensors will solve the S15s launch problem. Also better camber, he has too much negative and the car squats on power reducing contact patch. Its just not setup for drag racing.
Looks like the S15 has really been sorted out engine wise that looks really good.
I would certainly get something sorted out about the brakes having the abs reactivated will be good!

@@eminsergi9015 11.4 sec. 1/4mile For RWD m3 vs 11.6 sec 1/4 mile for x6m XDRIVE. The m3 is almost as quick as the e63s 100-200 km.h, so the x6m has no chance. The m4 xdrive did 3.07 sec 0-60, while the x6m did around 3.4-3.5 sec.

I've watched plenty races. In good conditions X6M runs like 11.4-11.7, X4M runs 11.6-11.9, and M3 RWD runs from 11.4-12.0 in different situations. (not that stable due to RWD)
My opinion is that it's not unwinnable for all three cars, which could make the race more interesting.

@@CARSHOPcambodia it s literally an apartment on wheels, it would be unusable in the uk, it would make no financial sense to sell the full size land cruiser in Europe. We get the Prado, which is a smaller version of the Land Cruiser, and it has a diesel engine

The "GO" is usually anticipated, saying 3, 2, 1 then pausing for go makes it harder to kick off when he say go

Not that it would of made much difference. He would of still won but would of made the race a bit closer that would of been better content, but yeah always went on 1 😆
And they went only to 120mph that was so short, they should have gone more like in the other races
