    This is one of my favorite rums and I enjoy just sipping this neat (slowly). Fun story, supposedly the "Old Fashioned Traditional Dark" was just to get past the TTB. The rumor is that when the master distiller tasted the original rum for the first time, the first words he said was "Oh FUCK, That's Delicious!"

      Sipping slowly feels like it's particularly important for rum in general. Even for Foursquare if I sip too much at once the burn kind of drowns out the other tastes because of the proof, but if I take smaller sips it's amazing

    Surprised to see you score this as a sipping rum. This is my go to rum for a Bahama Mama, Painkiller, and a few other Tiki drinks. It is not as funky as some Jamaican rums, but does punch through Tiki Drinks with good rum flavors. Looking forward to seeing the specific scores for this one.

    Oh man I want to love it, but I just can’t do Rum PERIOD... It’s sad, I’m a 36yr old heavy-drinking dude and just can’t, it’s my kryptonite! It’s all because when I was twelve I got into that first bottle with other neighborhood kids, and EVERY time I smell or try it again it always brings me back to that AWFUL experience, like drunk PTSD.... Seriously it’s all I can do to even muster down a light rum cocktail today, and it’s all because of that one harrowing experience(first drunk, puking, getting into ass whoopin trouble, all that) from my childhood

    Great timing. Just yesterday I went looking for some rum because of you guys and this channel. I couldn't find Foursquare, so I tried something on the manager's recommendation (at half the price, he didn't even try to push a different $100+ bottle!). I'm still a bourbon guy, but the El Dorado 15 year that I ended up buying was quite interesting, and quite different from the Bacardi 151 I used to mix with cola. I almost grabbed Plantation just because the bottle looked cool. Maybe that'll be my next one.
    Also, why is rum so much cheaper than bourbon? That 15 year was $42, and was one of the most expensive rums in the store that wasn't in a glass case.

      The labeling rules vary from country to country - some are more stringent than others. Regarding the age statement - there are some rums that simply list the oldest rum in the blend - while the reality is there is much younger rum making up a bulk of the product.

    • @BradWilson1969

      @@CuriosityPublic The labeling on this one (El Dorado Special Reserve 15 year) says it's a blend of rums aged at least 15 years, so that's nice. I was just shocked that there didn't seem to be anything over $50-60 on the entire shelf (ABC store in FL, so not a small store), yet there are plenty of scotch and bourbon for $60-80 or more on their respective shelves ($100+ bottles all seemed to be in the glass cases). I guess rum just isn't as in demand as bourbon.

    I want to like rum but the fact it’s mostly not natural as 90% cheat by adding additives, and it’s too exhausting to have to do my own research to find a natural one. So thank you for this recommendation as this seems like one that will help change my mind.

    • @CuriosityPublic
      @CuriosityPublic  3 года назад +2

      Yeah - the added sugars in rum are frustrating. You can also consider trying Foursquare rum - they don't use added sugar. Also, rum labeled as "Jamaican Rum" cannot have added sugar.

    Hey Dillon, I found the Maker's Mark Cask Strength at 109 Proof!!! Also, the bottle is gorgeous. They placed it in a bottle that looks similar to Maker's 46. Wish I could send a photo of it

    Great research and preparation obviously went into this video . Just buy the rum, it's fantastic, it's a bargain. If you like tiki cocktails , go big. If ya like rum and coke, buy Bacardi, save a bundle.

    Was Dillon given a jar of jam and a spoon for an after school snack as a kid? That must be why he’s always looking for the.... ‘jam’..

  • @BradWilson1969
    @BradWilson1969 3 года назад

    I'm guessing that Dillon would consider this blasphemy, but as a sipping rum, would it be ok to add some water or ice to this to proof it down? Then it could serve as a mixer and a sipper for us n00bs.
