AWESOME!!!! This is such a great review!!! Ive had 6 of these, by far the Isle of Fiji is my favorite. Pineapple is def a close 2nd. So many flavor to choose from with this lineup!! CHEERS!!!
I totally agree!
Really like your channel! Recently got into rum and just bougt the plantation 5 year. I personally enjoy the longer videos you two have been putting out.
Thank you so much. We really appericate it.
Taste the XO again and think toasted coconut! That’s like ALL I get when I taste XO. Love it!
Will do.
9:37 “it makes me happy” is EXACTLY the right phrase. My favourite rum hands down!
So so good. Cheers
Wow! That is an impressive line up!
I'm happy to have all three of them.
The 5 year is my all-time fav rum neat sipper and the 3 star for mixing - I like the Xaymaca also neat for Jamaican style rum. Nothing tops that 5 year neat or on the rocks.
Thanks for sharing!
Pineapple, XO and OFTD are great, for a daq, I'd use 3 star, or 5 yr. with a OFTD bump. Orig dark I don't love. fun review.
BTW probably got some added sugar in these, Plantation is in to that for sure.
It does seem a little sweeter
Great review 👏. I've tried the XO, Xaymaca, and Pineapple rums in a classic daiquiri and rank them in that order.
That XO is really really good. You might like the 5 year if you can find it.
@@carl_busch I tried that 5 year and now it's one of my favorites!
@@Toukon4ever it is really really good
Loved this review. I have four bottles, now I want the rest :)
Which four do you have?
@@carl_busch I have the Three Star, Xymeca, Fiji and Grand Reserve.
O.F.T.D is my favourite Plantation rum!! Delicious! I adore it and I use this fantastic rum in an Old Fashioned! It makes a spectacular Old Fashioned variation! :-) I also occasionally use the Original Dark in an Old Fashioned variation, but I prefer the O.F.T.D. for that cocktail. The Plantation Pineapple is lovely, and I really enjoy the Isle of Fiji. I love the Plantation 3 Stars and the Grande Reserve. They lend themselves to such a range of amazing cocktails. Plantation Xaymaca Special Dry is a fabulous delight! Demerara syrup is lovely with most of these rums. I use Demerara in my Plantation O.F.T.D. Old Fashioned cocktails. Deelightful!! Terrific video Carl and Riley. You are both lots of fun!! Yes to Riley's caramel observation! You definitely need to have a palette cleanse between tastings, otherwise it's sensory overload. There should be a limit with tastings because all of these do create an overload. 3 at a time would be my preference!! I liked this longer video!!
Totally agree with limit of 3 but it was super fun to do.
@@carl_busch For sure!! It looks like so much fun!!
Fiji single cask 2008 is my jam as they also age it in ex Islay whisky cask. Though I do also enjoy the XO for the coconut funk.
Hope to try that.
A PLANTATION RUM flight to end all flights ! ! ! AMazingly good ! !
It was LEGENDARY!!
Great video and I been wanting to try some plantation rums. I have just started drinking bourbons for last 6 months but I have had rum mixed drinks for last 4 yrs but I have not had any rum by their self. But if you see this comment can you tell me what is the “funk” that you are talking about in the rum? Is it something good or bad. Just a newbie trying to learn and thanks again for the video.
I love the Original Dark Plantation Rum.
It's so so good
Drinking 3 star mojitos right now and they're awesome
So so so good!!
If you're going to go, go the whole way!
Go go go!!
Late to the party, but Pineapple is so insanely good in a daiquiri!
It really is and better late than never
In it to win it😎
Yes sir!
I did a old fashioned with plantation pineapple, Mai Tai twist and Corn'n oil with plantation overproof
That sounds great. What was your specs?
@@carl_busch like the recipe or who am i? Then I can answer for two senses im bartender but I do these two at the house party, Corn'n Oil and something like Well Oiled Mai Tai from diffords guide but I used overproof and instead of orgeat I used amaretto
I had the Fiji, oftd and the zaymaca and my favourite was zaymaca then Fiji and finally oftd.
They are really good for certain reasons. Zaymaca is a sleeper people don't try.
In Riley’s defense, that is sensory overload. I used to do wine tastings with 10 or more bottles and my palate would totally be like, “you serious fam?!”. 😂
Oh for sure but it was fun to give it a try.
It was so hard! And my sobriety took the day off before we even started trying daiquiris 😅😅😅
Yes it did.
LOL that's a pretty awesome job LOL
Agreed! My days of wine tastings are over. Palette sensory overload!
I really enjoyed the banter between you two. It's funny that you mention "funk" on the Barbados rums bc they really aren't funky at all. The Xaymaca definitely has Jamaican funk for sure. One piece of feedback, the loud clacking sound was very distracting, I think it was the stool one of you were sitting on. Keep up the great content.
Glad you enjoyed it! You are right the stools are cheap. Gotta find better ones or just tighten them up more often. LOL thanks for the kind words.
Up here in Canada, plantation 3 star and Bacardi White are the same price. So it's a complete no-brainer. I've never even bought a bottle of Bacardi because this is available
I wish 3 Star was around the same price as Bacardi. Oh well, totally worth the money.
@@carl_busch unfortunately it is just about the only plantation rum available of any of the stores I've gone to. I would really like to try the OFTD
@@victorvannatter312 That is one of my favorites.
This was like the powerhouse of any tastings you all have ever done. What I want to know is, how long will it take you to go through all that rum? Feel free to send some of that XO our way.
Not as long as most would think. LOL
What is that noise? Chair creaking?
Ya I forgot to tighten up the bolts 🤦
”This is the definition of not drinkin responsibly” You guys bought a bottle and had it sitting for months before opening it. That’s responsible if anything 😂
You don't even want to know how many bottles we have sitting that we haven't open yet.
$23 for 3 star??? I believe it's priced around $16/17 which I always felt was a steal!
The Xaymaca is 100% pot-still, which makes it the most Jamaican funky rum of the bunch. Great in Mai Tais!!!
Loved this episode guys! Was able to watch the entire video also. I remember when you started and we talked about how rum wasn't your thing, and now here you are with full 30 minute episodes about rum. I'm like a proud parent!!!! Lol
Surprisingly 3star is only $28 here
@@RobsHomeBar yikes!
@@TikiDrinksatHome well that’s Canadian … so only like 5$ US
FIRST!!!
I was just about to comment that! Next time 😂
720 seconds late......
Let me channel my internal Tim.. hrrrmm “Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!”
@@stephane.foisy.186 Lolol!!!! CLASSIC!!!!
Haha
Great video and we love our Plantation Rums too! We laughed along with you…keep having fun!
BTW check out the “Tiki With Ray” RUclips video when he hosted Rocky the Plantation Rum Rep I had the pleasure of introducing the show🍹🧡🍹
Haven't heard of that channel. Will check it out. 👀
Xaymaca was the original island name, the English settlers changed it to 'Jamaica'
Ohhhh wow. Had no clue thanks for sharing.
To clarify for new rum drinkers here:
Oftd and xaymaca do NOT have added sugar to the rum.
Every other plantation rum (in particular the Fiji and the xo have 20/30g of sugar per litre added.
While it makes it more palatable for many new drinkers it is considered by many in the Caribbean as sacrilegious.
Also the 20th anniversary is definitely NOT 20 years old. It is 5/6 years old and is pretty misleading marketing from plantation
Did not know about the added sugar. Thanks.
@@carl_busch this is actually over the year becoming a big and contentious topic in the world of Rum. Some brands like plantation made it their shtick and are quite transparent about it but others are totally not and some aficionados and professionals in the market find that adding ANYTHING is an absolute travesty.
@@jcloiseau Appreciate the info.
Island company rum is the only rum with no added sugar
Interesting. I haven't heard of this company. Will see what we can do to get some.
