Neal Schon is an exceptional guitar player BTW. Not really a Journey fan, but his solo / instrumental albums are fantastic. I still listen to his guitar work on those albums and consider it his best and most original stuff.
Jesus, those Tim Shaw PAFs sound amazing. I'd only heard about them before but I'd say they sound even better than I'd imagined. They are the archetypal '70s/early '80s Rock sound, you can hear so many different great guitarist's tones in them.
Got the honor of playing the same exact model of this guitar, the guy told me that there are only 24 of them, so it could have been slightly different or he was wrong, it plays like a dream and is heavy as hell, it had the gold pick ups and the dark tobacco finish, I have photos if you want to see them
Love this guitar one of the best looking ones I’ve seen in a while and the history on it is amazing you got A good one there buddy thanks for all the info
This one is currently for sale. reverb.com/item/7139088-video-1984-gibson-les-paul-limited-edition-super-custom-neal-schon-any-way-you-want-it-model feel free to make an offer. Best, Austin
His is a first run super custom. In the 2nd run there appears to be some with the higher markings as well as the same as the first run. Here is one from his same run: ruclips.net/video/aefDI4zt79A/видео.html
I bought a used but close to mint condition Les Paul copy from Japan but the frets were low yet it still had the plastic peel on the pickguard and the backplate then I sold it and felt incredibly regretful about doing it I think the frets were either vintage size or just worn in perfectly it was hard to tell . anyway this torn me up for awhile since it was in a rare TS color finish and I got it for very cheap price and I had bought black and white Gibson pickups and their pots and wiring harness readily to modify the guitar. Guess have to save it for the next project.
1984 was a Japan Exclusive 'Reissue' of the original Super Custom Model. The Original small run of Super Customs were done in late 1979 and 1980. Here is a video of an original run one from 1980 ruclips.net/video/aefDI4zt79A/видео.html The first super custom made: ruclips.net/video/k6oTYeee_Es/видео.html
Neil's solos are a song within a song not just a bunch of showing off. But he can he more than do that. Trogleys is the best guitar gear site on the internet.
The Super Custom used the same inlays as on the 25/50. They are called the Super 400. The guitar used in that music video is indeed his Super Custom though I believe Schon does also have a 25/50
@@YooTooobJeff I actually have an original non reissue from 1979 that's identical to Neal's and I'm like 85% sure it was the actual one from the video. The OG markers are similar to the 25/50 but has a split diamond HS and no coil tap
5 piece necks are common on the higher end guitars. They have 3 pieces of maple and then two small strips of walnut. You can see them on things like the first run of super customs, 25/50 Anniversary Les Pauls and high end arch tops
I used to - I had to sell them for the down payment on my house. My favorite model is the Spotlight Special from 1983. My goal was to buy every single one made ~211-300 and then open a museum of them. Once the house is paid off, then, I will build a collection again
Is that right? For the last decade I believe he switched over to THE ELECTRIC GUITAR CO. That's what they are called Ironically. I forget the gimmick, they are all fiberglass or titanium or something. I think the Early Melvins albums Bullhead, Lysol and Houdini had a better heavier sound. Must be partially due to the use of the heavy LP.
Troglodyte means cave-dweller, A member of a prehistoric race of people that lived in caves, dens, or holes. Could be used to describe a person considered to be reclusive, reactionary, out of date, or brutish. There is a funny song about a Troglodyte. www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCV6paTX...
It also means a deliberately ignorant or 'old-fashioned' person. The Old-fashioned part is the reason why I decided to use it - most LP player's are very 'traditional' and want 50s specs
That whole guitar needs to be refinished by a pro. all the holes need to be plugged w Dowels not wood fill or Paper towels. I could make that guitar look brand new. you might not even see the repairs or dowel repairs.!!
@@Trog That's all in your HEAD. Love the show but People that make RULES have RUINED the trade. If all these Lps are worth so much than why are there about 1,500 high end lps for sale in a GRAVEYARD on ebay. Once Gibson was a guitar company. An older one would sell for a reasonable price. Just because it said GIBSON didn't mean its worth thousands. 70s lps are worth 2,500.00 the idea that now because the 50s and 60 have some value now the Norlands are worth that much. U should do a real break down of why the real bursts and reissues cost what they do. The wood, the Build, the die that made thin finish easier. The reason they bleed the die into the clear and why they changed to trans color lacqur There's a reason the 70s will never be worth what they think now on ebay. And id get you with your black light trick. Your just running into People who Do ASS refinish work. Ive repaired Cracked heals and after u sand em a couple passes the line disapears.
The last word I would ever use to describe a finish with checking is "beautiful", it is crazy language that eventually normalizes the poor finish now lauded as vintage and cool. Gibson needs to get into the modern world and get to poly finishes, nitrocellulose is not a great wood finish with more downsides than benefits. All those rubes with Murphy Labs guitars will cringe at my words, being quite offensive when you laid down almost double so some Joe can flail your axe with an old set of keys, so it is "aged" as would be described as a fraud in the art world.
If you don't like Gibson, pretend they don't exist. You don't have to watch videos about them or even look at them. Imagine the arrogance required of someone to honestly believe " x company would be great if they just operated the exact way I think they should and completely change everything they do ". Gibson haters are a unique bunch.
Super 400 inlays are ugly on anything but a Super 400. That headstock and Truss Rod cover are ugly too. 5 piece necks are lame man! Ugh Brass nut too? So 70's man. That body is nice too, too bad.
Neal Schon is an exceptional guitar player BTW. Not really a Journey fan, but his solo / instrumental albums are fantastic. I still listen to his guitar work on those albums and consider it his best and most original stuff.
I started playing guitar in 82 because of Neal Schon love his playing

It’s got a choked sound because the stop bar is cranked down too far and the strings are making contact with the back of the bridge.
Very angry The Office Theme at 26:10
in the anyway you want it video, it looks like Neal's les paul doesn't have fret markers higher up on the fretboard, do you know whats up w/ that?

sounds good .
The Song & Video for Any Way You Want it were released in 1980-...how is it a 1984 guitar?

I love late70's Gibson. I want cool LP 80. Of course Neal is my guitar god.
I wish I could have that!
interesting, that is a model I wasn't aware of.... like this one....
I like the mystery behind these. I learn more and more every time I find one, but I think I'm getting closer to 'the truth' haha
Neal Schon called!!! He wants his guitar back!!!
sounds great
26:15 starts playing

God I want one
Is neck zebra in the bridge? Or is my dean wrong? XD
I want a Schon Guitar :)
Anybody interested in '82 speed tune tuners (i beleive they're being called 'spider tuners') off my 82' custom?
They are Called Flip-Out Winding "Crank" Tuners. Those keywords will help you find a buyer on Reverb reverb.grsm.io/Trogly
Schon wasn't playing the Super, his was a 25/50...

I think Buzz Osborne uses one of this
Yup but it's in black

The audio video desync bothering. Great vid tho
The love child lmao
