Man, I really like the way you document these LP, that is why I can't help but pray that you put your hands on a TransPerformance LP. Too bad they are hard to find, but in Trogly we trust.
I feel you could have gotten more than $8999 for this, hmmm... I mean I personally would rather play something pretty close to a '59, but wouldn't SOMEONE want to spend more?
Hey Trogly, what are your thoughts on Sweetwater's "signature" Strat (the cherry burst one with roasted maple neck and fretboard)? Have you ever played one, and would you consider featuring one on the show? I believe it has the same pickups as the custom shop you had recently
I love this era too. I like rather plain guitars and I'm not into modern flame maple tops as they've become so cliche, but these late 70s to early 80s Gibson's are special pieces of art.
Really enjoyed you opening this guitar up and highlighting everything. Very interesting when you explained and then showed the thickness of the maple sides of this instrument. What a piece of work that guitar is, wow. I totally understand how some people are sort of turned off by all the "bling". Myself however, I can't get enough of what Gibson did on this Super Custom Les Paul. Again, Thank You for sharing this piece of Gibson History.
I never was a fan of SB Customs. Only liked them in black. This axe is thru the roof !!! I love eveything about it !! btw, i'm going to look for that Journey vid. I dig Neal's playing and always loved this, Written after opening for Thin Lizzy,,,"We need something that ROCKS!" I think it worked :)
Holy shit!! You always make me geargasm with these models!! You are still perfect with my morning coffee!! Keep it up my friend and keep em commin… Well job done mate!! Best wishes from Denmark! :)
I also think the Norlin years were amongst Gibsons best.. they did alot of new and experimental guitars, and like the LP in this video, did some outstanding customs and standards. It's the old school Gibson purist that knock the Norlin years. They give BS theories about the volute being bad and certain glues being inferior etc.. I think the Norlin years is right there with their pre 1970 products....
Considering its age and the era from which it comes,it's still(just like all the other supers and such)are a great part of Gibson's history and are fine peices of are and fine craftsmanship.and I really dig the shit out of them.great reveiw, love, and respect of these supreme instruments.
WOW holey smoking 🎸 man Gibson really needs two build that Les Paul 🎸 again . I was young back then . I can buy one now . Yes I like how the inlays block split white binding & I guess the tea stain color of it 👍🎸🤟 . lol TroyFrost / Troyster 😎 CoolRiffs 😎 Cool 🎸 🤘🤘 🤘
I would definitely keep it if money were no object - but it is up on Reverb reverb.com/item/6863579-steve-howe-s-1976-gibson-the-les-paul-wine-red-used-live-and-on-recordings-with-yes-and-asia?_aid=growsumo&gs_partner=Trogly
Ending at the 17th is traditional - however, you can occasionally find ones with additional inlays. My '84 run Super Custom had them up the whole neck - though I never was convinced that was factory
I recall that in 1978 there was a Les Paul Custom at Playground Music in Pensacola, FL. It was listed for $832.00, but there may have been a markup for it being in a "Mall" music store?
Head knock. In 1980 I bought a BC Rich Bich Doubleneck for $3200. Way more than this thing cost. In 1981 I bought a BC Rich Bich Singleneck for $2200. Man, I forgot how much things have changed.
I can't really find a clear enough photo to judge what era his guitar is from. I doubt they painted Super Customs black and it is definitely not a 25/50. I'm not really familiar with his work, but if a 1991 Gibson would line up correctly they did a run of Black Customs with Super 400 inlays then. reverb.com/item/9149318-les-paul-custom-super-400-inlay-gibson-custom-shop-plek-d?_aid=growsumo&gs_partner=Trogly
The TP6 allows for tuning while playing without having to reach across with your right hand to the headstock or stop fretting to do it. Like when the infamous "G" string decides to shift that little bit in the nut. I hate it when it does that. ;-)
Bullshit. What were doing? Andy Frain security. Neil has been playing and endorsing Gibson customs for decades. Search the video "anyway you want it". The super custom is what hes playing. "Working the back line". LMAO. More like holding a flashlight and pretending to guard the catering room.....

Oh so that Les Paul that I found in the closet of the house I bought is NOT some just mixing of parts piece of junk some guy made but it is a Super Custom? Wow, Too bad I stripped it all down and used the parts on other guitars and sanded the finish off of it!! OK, OK Austin get up off the floor I am only kidding. In going through a lot of LPs I've seen the higher designation as in 1 2 3 1 being lower and three higher the higher the price. I'm no expert on these but reading a lot of descriptions seems the higher priced models get better appointments.
How, in God's name, do you afford these amazing guitars? I'm still squeezing notes from my '06 Epiphone Les Paul Standard. I really love it, it's been my go-to for years and has seen many upgrades. But I drool over a simple Gibson Les Paul Standard these days. Just too many bills to pay.... love the channel though! Great videos.
The bridge is ugly and I can’t stop looking at it. I keep trying to just get over it because besides that it is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
The laziness of some people drives me nuts. Rather than take out the first screw on the switch plate cover, they just redrill the other holes. 🤦🏻♂️ Absolutely lazy!

I was just wondering if you got your Slash Les Paul back I was just reading about it yesterday that's a damn shame. Sorry to hear about that Austin !!
I had contact with the guy that had it a few weeks ago... but no luck recovering it, yet
Is there any way you could review a a ESP Gary Holt liquid metal? Love the show btw!
For real. There are no good pictures of it out there or video really showing off how insane that finish is.
Do the inlays on the super 400 always end at the 17th fret or are there some that go up further?

If you watch the Journey 1981 Houston videos of Lights, Where Were You, and a few others, you can see him playing one his trademark Customs

Some very good all original riffs here ;)
Jeezus that is a beauty! I imagine they did not swap the lathes, routers, and what not during prouction though. Bummer.
HE SAID THE LINE!!!
What a beauty!!
wouldn't mind a 1980 les paul for myself (my birth year!)
I'm not sure if King Buzzo from The Melvins also used one of those or a 25/50 Custom

I think I’ve found my dream Les Paul
Just watched journey 1981 in Houston . Neal’s looked like it had a huge back plate , like there were added electronics .

The Customs are the cream of the crop. They look so much better than a standard Les Paul.
Hey trogly! What's your guitar pick of choice?
My fav lp..
nice reverse edit at 2:56 lol
That neck pickup was born 4 days after me!
If I had that guitar you would not want to see it with a blacklight...

Magnificent
If you ever get the chance get your hands on a standard 82. They actually have 82 standard on the truss rod cover.
I'm sure one day I'll document one. There is also a "Standard 83" but you don't see either show up too often!
Nice sunburst, or at least to my taste, as well. I like it a lot and I wouldn't play it with a pickguard.

the bridge pick up has my 20th birthday on it.
If only Gibson would reproduce the Super Customs or Super Standard. Hell, I wish Edward's, or some Japanese manufacturer would make tributes to these.
Greco made Super Customs similar to these

*Would you put out a hit on me if I were to buy one of these and routed it for a Floyd Rose tremolo for a true Neal Schon guitar?*
It would almost be cheaper than buying one of this true custom shop signatures haha

Find it guys, Journey - Anyway you want it
You still havent sold the Steve Howe The Les Paul?
Surprisingly not. Can't say I'm too sad though either
Lol
Heyo
Whoops, you scratched the clear coat with the pickup mounting screw. $50 off. Yeahhhh. 🤣
So Austin, you selling EVERYTHING?
12:50 Journey song right?

Mr. Trogly, do you have a personal guitar or two that you own that you will NOT sell? It is your baby. If so what is it or what are those guitars?
Yeah,I'd like to know too
It looks great but i just wish i liked the tone more
60th day of the year? The this guitar was made on Leap Year Day!
Not my thing, I think that thing is fugly and the wood parts are gaudy.
I'd rather have a regular old 70s wine red Deluxe any day (value aside).
I keep forgetting that Austin owns a guitar once owned by Steve Howe
Take my money
I love this axe. Therefore, I can't afford it
