Such a beautiful guitar. The look alone is worth the video. Thanks fact that it was the last one made in the original plant is hugely significant. Thanks for sharing this guitar!!
I used to live near Kalamazoo. When they closed down, I got one of their last black beauty Les Pauls from a factory worker who needed the money. My best friend of 30 years stole it. I still miss that guitar. My friend,...not so much.
Austin, I don't know if Mark Agnesi is subscribed to your channel, but if he is, Gibson may want this for historical purposes, and you'd probably be able to get more than 12K for it.
I love the three pickup black beauties. I think if I owned one, I'd have to wire it up Mickey Baker style. Gives you control over all three pickups, and can be put back to stock easily, with no other holes.
That just sounds glorious, and today I think your oft-repeated assertion that "the guitar inspires the player" is correct - your playing today is great too!
I'm going to give you my thoughts about this guitar, which is worth no more than a personal opinion: don't sell this guitar ! You love it! It's a fantastic piece of history. It's collectible. It's something you'll pass on to your children. I mean, man : the last KM!

Oh my god, produced the day after I was born! The Black Beauty. I love these videos, going into all the detail you do. And I was surprised when you played Kall of Ktulu (which is from the same year again I suppose).
You are now my go to guy for anything Gibson, you helped me prove my Gibson was real Florentine cutaway pointy! I have tons of so-called experts telling me it was an Ibanez.
Beautiful guitar. When I see triple pick up customs I think of Steve Clark (RIP). His were custom ordered in the mid 80's. Lovely video. I'm a new subscriber. 👍
The late great Steve 'The Riffmaster' Clark fell i love with Customs in the 'Pyro era'. He had Gibson mod out all his Gibsons. But he had x4 very special Customs for the 88/89 In The Round In Your Face Hysteria' tour. He had triple PAF pick ups, they were all modded with a Kahler termolo, and he has x2 black ones and x2 magnificent creme ones, the best guitar I've seen his creme Custom Kahler Custom. They did it all for him as he and Collen were not 'guitar tech savvy'. A beautiful guitar.
I've been notoriously looking for vids about the LPC BB before getting one - hard to find, with the Standard taking center stage. Thanks to you I not only got an unexpected, but entertaining and informative history lesson, but also a pretty good sound demo. Thanks for this awesome video!
Really enjoy your videos. Happens upon them a week or so ago and can stop. Really informative and love seeing you go over so many beautiful guitars in great detail.
Didn’t see it mentioned but that plant manager (Jim Deurloo) that signed that letter became one of the owners of Heritage when they took over the Kalamazoo shop and started making their own guitars.
A 3 pickup Black Beauty is a dream guitar of mine and hearing the Call of Ktulu (one of my favourite songs) played as the demo was mind blowing. Great video, great playing, great guitar!
That is a real beauty...though I learned years ago when I had a DiMarzio pickup installed in my L6s Gibson electric I hated the 3rd pickup...it gets in the way of my picking and I'm sure it'd be the same with the Les Paul...but to be fair, I just got a 2019 Les Paul Custom shop black beauty from Gibson with only 2 humbuckers...I have once again found love

I personally think these are one of the best looking Lps, but I've never been blown away by the sound. I'm lucky enough to own a pre-historic 1992 trip pick up. Compared to my '89 custom it seems to be lacking behind. But I think it has its own unique tone, maybe the way the mid pick up is out of phase. They're great guitars but I'd be lying if I said I'm not tempted to upgrade the pups.
I played a Black Beauty when I was in Nashville at their huge Gibson store when I was a junior in high school back in 2008. I had to get them to get it out of the glass case and I was awestruck.
