It is incredibly odd that you have your dog in the intro this video with his red rocket front and center.
This just happened to be in my recommended feed and it answered so many questions on undermount sinks! Thank you! Love the custom bumpout on the butcher block for the stove.
Thanks you very much, glad it helped answer a question or two.
WOW great job. I smashed the notification 🔔
Love it.. looks really nice.. looking to make something like this of my office.. 26” deep by 10’
Thane Makes thanks! Home Depot for the raw countertop was the best deal I could find once shipping was accounted for.
Informative and entertaining. Thank you, and good job.
neal huff thank you!
Verrryy nice, beautiful, well worth getting that oscillating what's it, great job with the bump outs. You will need to get some nice, hand made, earthy pottery for that kitchen. Can't wait to see what project you take on next.
potters journal thanks! Also, a guy can always use more pottery!
Danny great job sir!!!
Brian thank you!
He made it looks so easy.
Thanks
Danny
I just found the info after clicking on "show more", Thanks Brother great job
Roadking1970 thanks!
The threaded rod to hold the sink in place is a great idea.
Dennis Nestor I can’t remember where I saw that trick, but I can’t take credit for coming up with it. It does work like a charm though.
Gorgeous
Thank You!
I cut mine out by rough cutting with a track saw and jig saw (you could jig saw only, of course, just slower) then used the actual sink with a template bit in the router to get the final shape.
Jeremy Specce ahh, track saw is still on my list for tools I want to get.
Damn dude! You got some skills. Looks amazing. Catching up on all your vids thanks to Coronavirus.
Mark Kahny Jr thanks brother
Super Nice Job !!!.....Question;....After gluing SS sink bowl to bottom of counter top...How do you prevent mold & rot from forming around the wood to sink edge ??
Thanks, I actually finished the wood on the edge before gluing. I would 100% tape that edge with painters tape if I were to do it again. Also, the silicone just squeezes out enough that mold or other issues like that have not been a problem.
hey danny! great video. giving us the confidence we would never otherwise find to tackle this project. in the beginning - you mention that the wall was wavy. how did you get to the part where you have the line on the wood that represents the waviness of the wall? i suspect ours is not straight ...
Thanks NettaP, I placed the counter against the wall and then scribed a line from the wall onto the countertop.
Good tips...
Thank you!
You should be going clockwise with that router. On an inside cut you'll get much smoother edges.
Agreed, lessons learned.
How did you have enough space for faucet thread bottom the butcher block is 1 3/4 thick and faucet bottom thread is 2 inch. Not enough for the nut tighten up and hold the faucet? What did you do? I have butcher block with 1 3/4 thick
Hey man I'm about to do a butcher block countertop but am considering joining the two at a 45 degree angle, any tips?
Hi Danny! We're looking into putting a wooden countertop in, but we're not as experienced so we were thinking of installing a sink with a lip to cover the potentially ugly jigsaw cut out for the sink. Is there a specific reason you went with the under-sink style for your kitchen reno?
Caitlyn Ridgley Hi Caitlyn! I just really liked the clean look of the undermount look. The way the edge of the counter just drops. Farmhouse style sinks are also popular now, and that could be a little more forgiving because you would get to hide the saw cut edge with silicone caulk where the sink and counter meet.
Wow it’s beautiful 😍 love it I live in San Diego lol 😂 just in case you want to came and do my kitchen too seriously if you live close . I would love those countertops
Familia CarrilloVlogs oooh San Diego is only about 2,500 miles away! Lol, be right there!
What type of router bit did you use, downward spiral? Also looks like you cut the entire depth of 1.5 inches in several passes? Getting ready to do the same thing for a wet bar I built Thanks Danny
Roadking1970 no problem man, I think I used an up-cut spiral bit. I can’t remember how many passes I did, but quite a few. To do it again I think I would mark my line, then make a rough cut with the jigsaw making sure to stay away from the line.... then get the router out... I did it this way because I wanted the router support on both sides, I’m not sure that was really necessary or not.
how does it hold up to hot cookware? If I did this, can I set a pot right off the stove onto it?
It’s still just wood, I can’t recommend putting hot pots and pans on it. That would damage the finish and potentially leave a burn mark on the butcher block
Very nice, was this a pre fabricated counter or did you make it yourself? Im thinking of putting a butcher block counter in my basement if you bought the counter where’d you buy it?
Jeremy Samuel It’s prefabricate, came unfinished. I got it from Home Depot, they had the best price if you include delivery into the overall cost. IKEA has some excellent prices too, but I could never find their solid wood counter tops in stock, and they wouldn’t allow ordering it because of the back order....
Danny Four Square which IKEA countertop were you interested in? Do you remember the name?
What did you use to cut that pattern for your router to cut out the sink hole?
Tom Stephenson I used a x-carve CNC router.
Hey I have a question, what was the stuff you used to hold the sink before you cork it?
Junior Luc before I cork it? I’m not sure I understand your question. I used silicone and the sink hardware to hold the sink to the countertop. I used a piece of all thread to hold it in place while I worked on it.
do you mean CAULK it?
A nice little Bluetooth or USB mic for your phone would make a huge difference
What did you finish the top with? Thanks!
Debra McCormick I used Waterlox
What did you seal it with?
Ogichidaawag [Spry] Waterlox, there's a link in the video description.
Hi Danny it’s been over a year since this video can you do an update, how are your countertops now and how are you taking care of them? I just installed butcher block countertops on my kitchen and I’m freaking out cause I’m scared to damage them 😃
I am planning on doing a update video when I’m done with a few more things. I think the butch block is going to require a little more upkeep to keep it looking good though. Mine could use a light sanding and another coat of finish.
@@DannyFourSquare I’m worried about doing undermount with BB due to the risk of the wood getting damaged at the exposed inner edge. Have you had any issues or done anything like re-sealing that edge? I have considered doing a drop in sink and just routing the top so it sits flush instead as an alternative.
@@joffsie the exposed end grain hasn’t been an issue for this sink. It got the same finish as the tops and it seems to be holding up fine. It could use a light sanding and an additional coat, I think that might be the standards upkeep for butch block.
I don’t know much about CNCs but if you can use it to cut out the template, couldn’t you just have used it to cut out the actual sink hole??
Someone with better CNC skills could. That was one of the first and only things I have used a CNC for, so I was worried about using it on my counter top.
Where did you get the wood for this and what is it exactly?
These are unfinished maple countertops from Home Depot. I finished them once they were installed.
hey, where can I also get that template to cut the butcher block? thanks!
sk8m4ng I made that template specific for my sink with the CNC, you could also just a jigsaw if you don't have access to a CNC.
@@DannyFourSquare I've seen in multiple videos people cutting with both a circular saw and a jigsaw. Are both needed to have an accurate cut? Or can i use the jigsaw all the way around?
sk8m4ng generally speaking, I don't think you necessary "need" this tool or that for most projects. There's almost always a way to get it done. This could be done with a hole saw and hand saw too.
What router bit do you use?
I think I used a flush trim bit. If I were to do it again I’d cut it very close to the edge with a saw, than use a upcut spiral bit and a collar.
@@DannyFourSquare ok cool thank you
Where donyou got that wood? Countertop wood?
Gabriel Diaz Home Depot was the cheapest I could find unfinished countertop blanks once shipping was included. IKEA has some great deals, but I could never the solid wood blanks in stock.
@@DannyFourSquare thank you so much!!
@@DannyFourSquare Lumber Liquidators also has Maple Butcher block - I need a 12ft piece - and they had one.
What kind of wood is that?
Maple
what are the clips needed for this
MrZanyZain clips? I'm not sure I follow?
@@DannyFourSquare Sorry I mean the brackets used to secure the sink in place
MrZanyZain ohhh ok. That is just the mounting hardware. I'm 99% sure it came with the sink. Has held up great too, plenty strong for a sink full of water and dishes.
Hello👋
Finn K. Hi!
I can't hear you
says "budget"kitchen reno..i don;t know what kind of budget you are???
The total cost wasn’t that much considering what people pay for just cabinets…. It went from an almost unusable kitchen to one that functions just fine for less than 3k.
