  • A fish tape is a tool used to pull wires into a conduit system after the installation is complete. They come with a nice factory hook that is designed not to get caught on anything inside the conduit when pulling in the wires, and avoiding obstacles such as the space between couplings, box connectors, etc. With any prolonged use, you will end up bending and breaking that factory hook. In this video I'm going to show you how to properly fix that broken fish tape, restoring it back to factory condition. As with all tools, it's very important to keep your fish tape in good condition, free from kinks and bends, and keep it coated in some light oil or lubricant.

You know Terri, I have been fishing wires a way longer than I wish to think about. I was never prepped on a fish. I have had to pull through conduit, but in most cases I use vacuum and rope, so I don't worry about the bumps and lumps in the fish. However, I mostly pull through walls and I have always cursed the hook which snags other wires, edges of holes and worse, insulation.
I thank you for this video and it should be put on a disc and supplied with every fish sold. 46 years I have been pissing in to the wind.

Nice but the whole time you were bending the new hook I was waiting for it to snap.
I always anneal the end with a torch or have even used a welder to heat up the end to annel it first before I bend it.

I just take it slow while bending. I've never had an issue doing this way, but heating it up works as well. Thanks for watching!
