207: Rebor Tyrannosarus "Tusk" - Quick Look and Comparison with "Kiss"

- Frequently in the comments section, many of you have told me that such and such would be perfect, if only it had lips. This is especially a pity when the dinosaur is a very popular one, AND the model promises to be a really good sculpt.
So Rebor has done something very clever. Putting in as much quality as they can in one of the most popular dinosaurs ever, they also give both a lipped AND unlipped version on the same excellent sculpt. That way there is no need to fight and gripe, everyone can have their own way.
Last video I reviewed the lipless “Kiss” version in some detail, along with an overview of the lips vs no lips arguments. In this video, we take a quick look at “Tusk” and see how he compares with Kiss.

Honestly I love both colour schemes but as a big fan of lipped theropods I have to say I do prefer Kiss, it's just a bit prettier in my eey
There's just something so forbidding about it, and the black head is really quite striking in its way. Tusk however really shows the detail more easily with that colour scheme. I'm glad you now have a lipped T Rex! Not enough of them! 🙂
Both gorgeous! I really love that they have a new accurate sculpt to the rex.
It's wonderful, almost perfect. If only I can repair or modify that jaw issue somehow!
I got my "Kiss" model about a week ago. I have to say, even with the issues with the tail seam (mine isn't bad at all) and the mouth (mine shuts 98% of the way) I adore this model. For a while I was tempted to buy PNSO's Wilson figure, but I couldn't get down with the strange look when his jaws were shut. Don't get me wrong, Wilson is a great figure, but I feel like what Rebor has done with Kiss and Tusk will be judged as iconic in the future.
Aesthetically speaking, Kiss is the first tyrannosaurus rex model I have owned that can stand toe to toe with Nanmu's Jurassic Park T rex inspired figures... that is how much I admire it.
I absolutely agree when you say that what Rebor has done will be judged as "iconic" in the future. Every now and again, a figure comes along that represents a kind of breakthrough. Wilson was one, and now this is another. Indeed I like this so much I actually considered spending money to get the jaw modded to close fully, but I have to save money right now so that is on the backburner. This is truly an amazing piece and the few Rebors I have, I have never regretted buying.
@@DinosDragons I ordered Tusk as well and when it arrived, didn't disappoint either. I do not say this lightly, this sculpt from Rebor is the first T rex Sculpt I have seen that can compete with my nanmu JP rexes. What makes it even better is Rebor's model is supposed to be built the way scientists believe Tyrannosaurs looked.
Lips or no lips I like them both. Great review as always.
Thank you! They are both great milestones I think! 🙂
I really love it and I do appericate the homage of their first figure, which was a Tyrannosaurus
Also I wish yall are having a great day
It certainly is a very good start for Rebor!
great comparison, I still prefer the Kiss version, I think looks more menacing color wize looks better to me.
Definitely! Reminds me instantly of Mark Witton's haunting painting!
They both look dope I hope that the one with the black head comes with the lipless someday
Haha, it's hard to say if Rebor would do that. I think it should actually be more practical to get Tusk, then have him repainted.
Yes they should do a repaint of it so it’s re-paint looks more like the lip version just still has the lipless Features
Just scary. I love Rebor. I want both as a mated couple
I hope you put your preorders in. I hear tell that Kiss is sold out in many areas 😥
i would find it interesting to know from a sculpting perspective, if kiss and tusk have two different upper jaw elements or if it's identical. it's hard to judge from the video since the sculpt looks so similar, but because of the different paint apps i can't be sure.
Ah... I believe they would be the same, but unfortunately I can't check it for you now. I lent out my Tusk and I don't have it with me at the moment 😪
quick question: do you think the proportion (head size relative to body, etc.) of this model is accurate enough?
From some angle it does look a _little_ large, but I personally am ok with the general proportions. But I'm also not the most nitpicky person! The only thing that disturbs me a little is that rounded bump I show in the video, but even that will be overlooked after you're used to it. I wonder what that was; Rebor probably has some facts I'm unaware. Even their box art doesn't who that though.
@@DinosDragons the Tyrannosaurus rex is the largest and probably the strongest terrestrial predator to ever walk on earth.
Correct proportion this animal was an insanely powerful Tank(powerhouse)
I wonder what you think about the recent Rebor Triceratops
Do you mean the Trident? I would have to see more pictures. From the angles in the photos I have seen, I don't like the posture of the legs, the orange in the keratinous parts, and the fact that all the digits on the manus look like they are clawed. Otherwise it gives me a Sideshow Triceratops vibe, which is a nice callback.
While this model is still amazingly detailed & sculpted, I think Rebor dropped the ball with this one. So many issues & complaints from consumers. Tail ( for both) not connecting into the body all the way leaving it very noticeable, For Tusk, his mouth doesn't stay open as wide as Kiss, and for Kiss, her mouth doesn't close all the way for those who like a Rex with lips. While both of them were in production stage for a while, I must say it seems Rebor didnt spend enough time making sure everything came together. Doesn't help that Rebor has been having financial issues for years now. This is why ive moved on to other options like Nanmu who provide more quality in their work. I gave Rebor a chance again cause by the product images, it looked stunning. But often at times companies will edit those images to make it look more amazing than it actually is. Also gonna mention, Rebor chose very strange color schemes for this rex. I wish Kiss was entirely black. I know her colors are bases on a Komodo dragon it looks like. Even tho im not too fond of orange, I went for Tusk cause his colors look more natural. Would have loved a grey or green colored one instead. Thats another thing about Rebor. They choose very strange color schemes. Well, I ordered Tusk. He should be arriving soon. But cause of these complaints on the models, I do regret my decision buying it. Next time I'll just wait for the ''In hand'' reviews before determining that. I thought Rebor was better than that. Thanks for the HD review!
You're most welcome. One of my motivations for doing these videos is hoping it can help people make a decision, especially for something really expensive, or to moderate expectations from overhyped models to cushion the blow.
To be fair, the tail does seem salvageable to some extent, if you see my update video and Tusk looks a lot better.
As for the mouth, let me say that when I opened the packaging, and I saw that the mouth was kept shut with a rubber band, I had a bad feeling about this. At first I thought t was that the mouth was too loose and would keep falling open, but I quickly realised the reality was more disappointing. Loose mouth that still closed fully my friends can fix. Mouth that can't close tight or springs back from fully open, that will need a bit more work. Yet I like the rest of it so much that I'm considering if I should pay a friend to mod it for me.
Nanmu, if they ever choose to do high-end realistic dinosaurs, will be a force to reckon with. I only bought the Once-in-Future-King T Rex and Watchment Brachiosaurs to have two iconic representative from JP, and the T Rex especially, when you look at the complexity of the paint, just can't be beat.
Since when are they available ?? 😭🥺 did i miss something ?
It was released in China this week. However preorders for your country should have been up a while already, so if you haven't ordered already then you might want to do that. Otherwise it may be sold out, especially Kiss.
I absolutely love them!!!!
They are truly a milestone in T Rex models that's for sure!
the colour scheme of kiss is more appealing to me than Tusk...Tusk has boring and bland orange shades that has done to T.rex million times with no pattern...i already own PNSO wilson with very similar colour to Tusk...however i like the lipless version personally...so now i am confused which one to choose...i hope REBORE release these beautiful models with more colour schemes.
You know I actually felt that the colour scheme of Kiss gave my PNSO vibes, especially Andrea, and if only they had Tusk's colour on Kiss, I might have just bought Kiss. Or if I had wanted a lipless verions, I would have just bought Tusk.
However in hand, I have to say that this colour gives Kiss a very brooding, forbidding mood, which calls to mine that painting by Mark Witton, and so I am very happy with it. Meanwhile, if you look at the other video on Tusk, you'll see that the colour they have chosen does really bring out the wonderful detail in the head and face.
But yes it would be something if Rebor would re-release the two with swapped colours. It should be minimal expense for them while maximizing gain. However I heard tell that Rebor may not have subsequent runs of this. If this is indeed true, I think your best bet is to just get Tusk if you prefer the lipless version, and then get someone to repaint it.
@@DinosDragons i think repainting Tusk is the way to go...actually this color scheme on Tusk is very similar to the previous PNSO version before winter Wilson...PNSO had re-released old Wilson figure in orange colour scheme very similar to Tusk. And i owns that model...so i think repainting Tusk in shades of green will be better for me.
Definitely more of a fan of Kiss than Tusk.
Same!
Me too! So much so that I am thinking if I should get the jaw modded. The colour scheme is so forbidding and I can't not think about Mark Witton's work when I look at it.
I just can't choose which I like more lol
But I definitely would choose kiss if i were to buy one since I already have 2 lipless tyrannosaurus, pnso wilson and safari Ltd feathered trex and pnso wilson is the only out of all that I have that displays an accurate shape of a tyrannosaurus so kiss won't be the accurate shape of a tyrannosaurus again just with lips this time
If I had to choose one, I would also go with Kiss just for the lips.
But what do you mean by "accurate shape"?
@@DinosDragons you know bulky, correct shaped head etc etc
@@firegator6853 Oh do you mean just the bump in the head? I was puzzled by that. And the musculature of the hindlimbs also seems a little off in some areas. Overall though it's really such a wonderful model that I would still buy it again if I could travel back in time 😁
@@DinosDragons no i meant i think they are both fine looking, the bump on the head sure is unique but it doesnt bother me in negative way i just view it as more buff neck muscles for hindlimbs i cant find anything off in the figure
I'm sure you can do something with that tail seam line 🤨 Other than that this figure is a must-have to us collectors. And damn these Rebor teeth are the best 😍 Eagerly waiting for the next review, Sir.... ❤
a must have? naaaahh..
@@gertruidagertruida3920 I said 'must' only because this is the first T-rex figure with accurate lips (IMO) and this amazing color scheme. Because most of the time we get brown, green color versions and this is quite refreshing. So if you think this is beautiful you must. 😉
I would definitely agree with you! It depends on individual taste, but I personally like models I consider little landmarks, and this for me is one such. I have put up an update on the tail, and have managed to improve the connetion with Tusk thanks to hot water and lots of force, but Kiss still has a gap I may ask a friend to mod for me.
Looks like the T-Rex from Dino king.. One eye. I like this look.
I know nothing about video games save a little of Monster Hunter. But yes this is a fantastic model overall! 😁
@@DinosDragons it's a movie. Kinda like Lion King but with dinosaurs.
Tail not connecting well to the body for a such good and pricey model is ridiculous. I've bought from aliexpress vanilla ice clone for 15 usd and the tail connection is almost better... It s a shame because the model anyway is stunning...
The tail is rectifiable to an extent but for different people the results vary. For example, Tusk now looks acceptable, but Kiss is just incredibly recalcitrant to the usual heat, force, and so on ☹ My main gripe is still the jaws not fully opening or closing though.
My good sire you made a typo on the title !! It's 207 not 107
Thank you for paying such close attention! I've fixed my continuity error! 😁😁
I can’t get over that tail seam, it’s a no for both. How ever “controversial the PNSO Wilson is, I would buy two of them over this.
That's truly a pity, However if you watch my latest video update, you can see that at least for Tusk I managed to narrow that gap. Not sure if you would find that more acceptable. Not so with Kiss, so it might be individual variability. I find the mouth articulation more a dealbreaker though. The tail at least should be modifiable relatively easily. Not so for the mouth.
@@DinosDragons the mouth articulation as well, it’s just if you charge that amount I feel the tail should fit (quite an easy part of the body to work with).
With rebor I find you pay enough where there shouldn’t have to be seam modification like this one. My opinion anyway, not a huge deal.
That terrible tail seam though.....wow.
I have posted a video update on that following various suggestions I've received. Check it out and see if it's more acceptable now. 🤞
So many issues with them it seems like, Rebor dropped the ball with this one. Its a shame cause its a beautiful model. There is no reason why they couldn't have spent more time making sure the tail fits to the body correctly. They have done this in the past (Ex: Killer Queen Rex) where the tail connects to the body & it perfectly aligns with the body. Rebor just got lazy with this one & hid it on the product images where you buy it. Im disappointed with Rebor. Which is why ive moved onto other options.
Мне кадется что губы у теропод это перебор. Хотел бы я посмотреть на губы цератозавра, зубы верхней челюсти которого значительно выступали за нижнюю при закрытой пасти
Oh I talk about that in the video. Go to the science part where I discuss lips vs now lips.
choose Tusk.
Haha, well I would say it is definitely also a winner, especially if you watched my last update on the tail. I used heat and lots of force and it sits a lot better, but Kiss sadly needs modding. It may be variable though!
Tail seam and mouth not able to close on kiss makes me not want to buy it. Let's see what eofauna can pull up for a scientifically accurate rex. Good review
Please check out my update on the tail 🙂
Wow, the tail gap is just atrocious. Lost all interest in this model because of it.
Check out my latest update on that. Hopefully it's just my Kiss, but Tusk looks good now!
@@DinosDragons watched that too and the seam looks the same on both to me. It’s just too distracting. Thank goodness for your reviews! I was about to buy this (the prototype shots basically lie and don’t include the seam)
I think kiss is female and tusk is male
Haha well... tt could certainly make sense if males have tusks, but I think the extent of lip coverage wouldn't be different across sexes. But I would say this is such a landmark piece you should get them both if you like both, and then think of them any way you like! 🙂
