Nice machine. The digital display is too small and difficult to see. I can't understand why they didn't put the cluster behind the steering wheel, where it should be.
Hey guys, let’s pretend for a second that budget is not a concern. Is the Fox Live Valve really worth it? (I value reliability more than comfort) Also, I’m in between choosing Honda or an X3. Which is best? (Or Yamaha?) -I intend to drive it like I’m in Baja 1000 -I don’t mind changing changing Belts or doing maintenance as long as I can do it at home and not forced to do it out in the desert due to parts breaking on the spot -When it rolls over I wanted to hold up and not become total trash Any advice is highly appreciated!
I would also suggest the Yamaha yxz1000. If you can afford it you can’t go wrong. Great power, very efficient transmission probally the best I; the business on a sxs and Yamaha reliability is hard to beat
Well I just got back from Cross Bar Off-road Park in Oklahoma. Seen a bunch of sport SxS’s this weekend. CanAms, Razor’s, Kawasaki’s and Honda Talons’s. 2 seaters and 4 seaters. Didn’t see any YamahaYXZ’s. There was plenty of recreational SxS’s as well. We Had a KRX 1000 running 35” tires, a Razor running 30” tires and I took my Honda Talon 1000R running 33” System3 XT300’s. After this weekend there may be a few extra Talon’s in our group. Now when I go to TexPlex I see quite a few YXZ’s. So in my eye’s the YXZ is good for wide open desert/wide open spaces. The Honda and Yamaha both are belt free running a DCT transmission. I like the Yamaha but you have to shift gears all the time like it or not. Now the Honda you can choose whether or not you want to change gears or keep it automatic which is 1 reason why I chose the Talon over the rest. I seen a few Razors on fire this weekend. Lots of smoking belts and broken axles from CanAm’s and Razor’s. This is the most Honda Talons I have ever seen this weekend. Honda may not have the most power but I never noticed it nor did I even miss it this weekend. My Talon is almost 2 years old now and I haven’t had a single issue. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
@@stgraves260 I agree with everything you said...and I like the Talon too. To me I’d pick the Yamaha or the Honda. I don’t want reliably issues even thou I admit the Polaris and Can Am run hard! I just prefer the YXZ and I’d buy the SS sport shift YXZ if I bought a new one. Honda in my opinion needs to redesign the air intake system and make the dashboard like the Yamaha YXZ. (Big fail by Honda) The Yamaha‘s duel filter intake system is the best in the business along with the dashboard and steering wheel layout. I feel if Honda took some of the ideas from the YXZ it could be easily the best car to buy. The only other thing I don’t like about the Talon is the engine and transmission are bolted together and are fairly complex. The Yamaha has a divorced engine and transmission which makes it much simpler to service and repair.
Worth it? Nope. Why? Here in PA (46,055 sq. miles!) too much $ invested for too few places to use one and state game lands only allow to use the them 60% of the year ( hunting season and wet spring time closed) better off buying a used Ridge Line & put on a 3” lift kit and use it every where all year long and you will thank me later and never regret it.
Better mpg when you can shift up and keep the rpm down. My hondas typically get more than 1.5x as far as my buddies with larger displacement and cvt. The main feature of this is they often misjudge their capacity and run out of fuel in the middle of a trail ride hours from base/destination. Then they have to borrow fuel from my spare fuel and luckily I generally don't need it because my honda atv's are pretty efficient.
This is good but the Can-Am X3r is still MUCH BETTER! The Honda is definitely better than the Polaris Razr but NONE of them can match the Can-Am X3r and Commander side-by-sides! Since I live in a winter climate I go with the Can-Am BECAUSE of its proven deep snow performance and that super-dependable 100 hp Rotax engine -- I also need to carry more survival goods such as food, water, camp gear because it's so cold here in winter. Can-Am gives me that extra payload. From what I understand the Honda is LIGHTER than either so in desert sandy environments, it would have an edge over the Razr or X3r but for rougher, rockier, muddier and snowier 4x4 routes, the X3r wins by a mile! It kind of depends what you want to use these for. If you are a hunter/fisherman or farmer, you get a Can-Am Commander series for the payload and distance capability. If you are a Winter Trail or Boggy Swamp runner, you buy the X3r. The Honda is a MOAB/UTAH/Arizona/New Mexico desert runner! The Polaris Razr, you buy for your fall run to the lakeside cabin in the Smokey Mountains! v
As a Canadian here's the TLDR: of the Talon, Is it worth it? No, is it slightly worth it? No. Is it worth it in the long run? No. Is it maybe kinda if for kicks? No. Honda has priced this thing so insanely you can have an XP Pro or an X3 DS 172 for 2-4k cheaper. Dear Honda.... get f************cked!
I’m sorry but this is such an uneducated review. It’s like they completely didn’t know that Yamaha was the first to put a manual in a sport UTV. Yamaha yxz also has launch mode. They do truck reviews pretty well idk why they don’t put that same effort into everything else they do.
What's up with Honda these days? 100hp? Did they not get the memo it's 2021? Geez. And the build quality is super bad. I have a pioneer 1000 and it is put together horribly. Comes with no options... after options it was 24k....... and it gets recalls constantly. I have a can am commander as well and that is built super good no problems and never one recall in 8 yrs....... c'mon Honda!
@@dsjeffress I doubt it. I have never once wanted a boat either. I have ridden in some fast boats, but not once have I gotten off of one and thought that I wanted to go get one.

Definitely not the only one without a belt transmission. The Yamaha YXZ is a gear driven UTV

Exactly...like the YXZ
@@DUNEATV Yup, and just about everything else.
Aftermarket takes care of that,,, yes, sad it was not stock
I didn't think I would like the center gauges, but after owning one, I think I prefer it.
you're right, but there's an easy solution! There's a relocation kit available to put it over the steering wheel!
Hopefully they bring out the wider stance 1000R live valve in 4 seater form with the much rumored "factory turbo" for 2022!!
With a launch process as convoluted as that, I'd just as soon just stomp the gas from a stop.
Why would launch assist even be needed?
Why do honda can do a sport utv but they cannot upgrade their atv?
Excellent question
Sales numbers dictate where they spend their budgets.
The YXZ has had launch control and a traditional transmission with paddle shifters for a few years now.
But it's suspension is God awful lol
@@MiL7z depends on what you’re using it for. They dominate the short course. With a little work they do pretty damn good in the desert.
Yamaha has a traditional transmission Andre.
And the Yamaha has launch control too.
I love your side by side reviews! Keep It up 👌
Andre YAMAHA also has a gear box no BELT!
And launch control

Looks like a lot more fun than climbing rocks in slow motion
The YXZ Yamaha is also not a belt transmission. They were the first to offer pedal shifters
That would be paddle shifters....... ; - )
Too bad the Honda isn’t the only side by side to have launch control or the first one the yxz has had it since 2017
There's so many aspects that makek the Talon incomparable to the YXZ. The Yamaha is a child's toy compared to a Talon
Launch mode seems silly.
Well for us older and slower 🙄 folks that want a little more than the pioneer would appreciate full cab enclosure with heat and air 😀
Give it maybe 5 years from now and Honda will be absolutely DOMINATING the SXS world!!!
You guys should be testing the raptors, TRXs and other “Baja” inspired trucks where you ran the talon. Let’s see some high speed desert driving vids🤙
Totally right with the lack of OE accessories. I love my seizmik mirrors. First thing I added.
25K is not worth it. this sport used to be affordable
Yxz has launch control has had it since 2017 no belt either

The yxz1000 is sequential trans

64 inch max here in quebec, Canada.... they just cut themselves off a 8 million people market

I have to disagree about the transmission. I like the CVT much better. It's just smoother shifting.
Cvt don’t shift. They are 1 gear automatic.
Cvt are dogshat, literally throw away technology
Smoother isn’t always the best when performance is the goal
The automatic won't be busting belts
