I'm thinking of buying a 2010 Lexus RX 450h with 70k miles on the clock for £15,000 ( $20,000 us) . Is this too much to pay?
Scotty i see alot of newer engines having oil consumption issues, do you think it is the O.E.M synthetic type oil the manufactors use in newer cars contributing to these oil consumption isuues ? Dont the piston rings have to seat right using conventonal oil for the 1st 300 miles of a new motor & not a slipery dexos 2 gm type oil.

I’ve been to the factory where they make these models. Super clean and well maintained facilities. Japanese engineers all over the place even in the American plant. You can always count on Toyota.
I wonder how this will compete with the C-HR since it’s similar size and engine.

I got my Cross fwd this past October and I love it. I had a 1500 mile road trip and it averaged 33.5 on the trip.
How was the car in inclines/hills/mountains?
My little Toyota Matrix just saved my life last week. A transport cut me off causing me to slam into the back of it at about 50mph totally writing my poor Matrix off 👎 Hopefully will be able to replace her! I lucked out big time with a broken right hand and some scrapes and bruises but the paramedics and police were shocked I was alive 👍

You sir, provided the exact review I was looking for! I was the proud owner of an illusive Toyota Matrix and it was my favorite commuter. I have been searching for a week for a review that compares the Corolla cross to the matrix and sort of explained the difference you you have 100% given that to me! Everyone else has kind of acted as if the matrix was never even a thing lol. Thank you kind sir! You have no idea how much I appreciate your review 😊

I had a 2003 Matrix XRS automatic and it was impressive! I loved it. I lent it to a friend whose BMW was in the shop (just for an errand) and she was shocked how peppy my Matrix XRS was :) I was surprised when Toyota stopped making the Matrix too. I instantly liked the looks of the Corolla Cross when it came out.
I love my Corolla Cross XLE. I watched a zillion reviews leading up to the purchase and just shake my head at the common complaint about its acceleration, which is more than fine (I live in one of the nation’s aggressive driver hotspots and have zero issue merging onto the local highways). The other huge upside is the cabin. The Cross has more driver legroom than the RAV4! I haven’t been able to drive a Toyota for decades because the driver side legroom has been so bad, but the Cross is VERY friendly to long legged tall guys and the headroom is great even with the sunroof. Highest recommendation.
How much did you get it
@The Real VR I’m actually much more comfortable in the Cross than the Highlander due to the cabin layout. The literal size of a vehicle doesn’t really correlate to driver space. There’s entirely too much focus on rear seat legroom at the expense of the driver.
@@BrianCinBengals totally agree. As a guy who is over 6'2" I've been really frustrated that newer vehicles skimp on driver legroom. Now I'm really excited about the Corolla Cross
Love my Cross too…just wish Toyota would hurry up & bring the hybrids over to the US.
@Brian Creamer I have a cross on order but it doesn't have a sunroof. I found a rav4 for a little more with sunroof, would it be worth it to switch to the Rav4 you think? I'm 6'3. I've sat in a cross but not a rav4. I can't find a dealer that will sell to out of state people with models that have a sunroof.
I bought a brand new 2021 RAV4 Hybrid a few months ago. With 1500 miles on it I am averaging 38 mpg city/hwy. I love the car. Big improvement over my former 2017 Honda CRV with the oil dilution issue.
I wanted a rav4 hybrid but dealerships are crazy with the mark ups rn, so I’ll wait 1-3 years to see if things are calm by then.
Considering the Corolla Cross is about 500 lbs heavier and a lot roomier than the Matrix, the mileage is pretty impressive.

The biggest problem with this vehicle they lack power my motorcycle has more horsepower it's ridiculous they cheapen out on horsepower that's why I won't purchase one they can make it more economical and put more horsepower in it

PS my current car is a 2000 Corolla and it'll just keep going forever. My previous car was a little tiny Toyota pickup truck. I'm in my sixties and I've only owned two cars my entire life I expect them perform well for 20 years.😊 I guess I'm spoiled with Toyota.
I recently drove a 2007 Toyota CVT and I totally couldn't tell it was a CVT. Toyota really did a good job with it. I was thinking it would feel rubbish but it didnt.
Agreed. I've driven a few older Toyota CVT equipped vehicles, and they are excellent to drive. The 2008 Allion 2.0L was a bloody rocketship. CVT's can't be beaten for rolling acceleration.

I gotta say that for how cheap they are (compared to their competitors of course) it's really nice.
My vehicles need to be suvs because I need carry space and this is def on my list of potentials.

If you go to a certified Toyota dealer their MSRP will be factory price not market price. It should not be inflated
"when it settles" I don't see it happening... I only see high and higher prices...plus dealerships raising the prices...

Being a matrix owner for 14 year I loved it so much. But an accident totaled it and now I’m getting cross. It’s bittersweet. I still miss my matrix.

I got this Corolla Cross and I love it! I have the LE trim front wheel drive and I drive a lot of highway miles and I’ve gotten up 45 mpg. It’s awesome

One thing I did want to mention is that for the most part, all KY made Toyota vehicle engines have been made in the KY powertrain plant for the last 25 yrs or so. So that 90's Camry wagon did have a KY made engine in it. Lol. Toyota has 3 engine & 1 transaxle plant here in the US for decades now. The Toyota quality is still very good even if made here in the US...Just wanted you to know. Thank you for your videos. I always enjoy them.

got the fwd Cross XLE and I'm thrilled with it!
I've had my XLE AWD for like 6 months now and I'm averaging around 34 mpg. It's my daily and i love it.
Edit: I live in a fairly rural area so I don't deal with a lot of stop and start traffic. Also, I try to keep it in the Eco band when getting up to speed. Seems to have a pretty significant impact.
I’m have a 2019 RAV4. I agree about Eco mode. I love my vehicle.
It’s excellent in every way. My only issue with it is the cvt. I prefer the old school 6 speeds

Im new to your channel and I absolutely love it... I have the 2020 Hybrid RAV4 XSE...it’s been 2years now and I have no complaints 😀
I just had one of these as a rental and put on 2000 miles in a week, driving through mountains, highways, etc. and still averaged 35mpg. Very enjoyable to drive and just the right amount of tech. I’ve been tempted to buy one. The only thing I didn’t like was how buzzy the engine was and how much of it you hear in the cabin.
NICE car !!! But Scotty, the replacement for your Matrix is the COROLLA HATCHBACK made in Japan and imported to USA. Available in manual shift with clutch!
He discussed this on another video and the hatchback is not as reliable so he doesn't really think of it as an honest replacement. At least that's the way I remember his video.

Thank you for all these videos. We’re in the market for a new car because we had a Scion XB a partner of Toyota.
Long story short the engine blew up. At first I was considering the Kia Soul but after all my research no thank you because it was in competition with the Scion xB and have the same issues!
Now I’m doing either Toyota Corolla or Toyota Cross . I appreciate you. Keep the videos going……

I've been binge watching your channel... love the videos. Thank you! I'm trying to decide to buy one of the following vehicles and want the most dependable/long lasting engine choice. Id appreciate you sharing your thoughts as your expertise is second to none. Mainly if any are real standouts over others or some should be avoided:
1. 2020 Toyota sienna AWD
2. 2021 Toyota sienna AWD hybrid
3. 2021 Subaru ascent awd
4. 2021 Toyota Highlander AWD
5. 2021 Honda CR-V AWD (non 1.5L)
6. Subaru Forester awd
Forget gas mileage ratings, it depends how you drive it
thats right, i get 34 MPG on highway with my Rav4 2.5.
Try to drive very conservatively accelerate and brake and take turns slowly and gently and I get 45 mpg on highways
I have gotten as high as 34.5MPG on my Corolla cross. It is possible.
I bought a Cross and drove it 400 miles right out of the dealership, averaged 30 mpg on the highway without trying.
This is great replacement for the matrix. My 2004 matrix has been sitting during the pandemic and I've been loving it lately. I'm at 210,000 miles and have been giving it a good tune up and maintaining it and I'm loving driving it again. I forgot how amazing the matrix is.

I would always opt for the trim with the darker interior and seats to look more upscale. Everyone, get the upcoming hybrid model as it is a more perfected and improved version. More power, quieter, MPGs for a little for money.
Scotty says it's decent and it's a massive upgrade from my 2013 Corolla CE. I'm willing to take a gamble on the Hybrid AWD version of this vehicle. Toyota has never disappointed me up until now. I don't need a psuedo-truck like the Maverick, but I want a higher ride with AWD and decent fuel economy that has far better storage than my Corolla. Checks all the boxes for me.
Went to see the gas version in person at the dealership today. Awesome looking vehicle. Handles really well in comparison to my current vehicle and the XSE trim with the JBL speakers and nicer tech package 👌. Also had Safety Sense 3.0 and newer, far more responsive software for their displays. Been waiting for a vehicle like this for a while. I'm going in for it.
I had a CHR and let me tell you, this saved me in snow up to my door in Vail, CO!
I saw this at the Houston Auto show. It was great looking and very nice inside.

I'm still trying my 2008 Tacoma with over 350k miles. Just do oil changes, no other maintenance. Thinking about buying the Cross, but a little leery about the CVT
transmission.

I love it. I bought a 2022 LE with sunroof and awd in Jan. (I drive a lot) bought it at 35 miles and now have 8k mile's on it. In winter it gave me roughly 25+ mpg. Now in summer I am getting 31 mpg ( roughly 325 Mile's in one full tank). As always, mpg depends on how aggressively I drive or if I have the heater or AC on. It mostly drives in fwd mode and switches between AWD and fwd when the onboard computer needs it to.

I'm getting 35.5mpg average in my 22' Corolla Cross, so it's better than what it's rated.
I just got my new 23 cross L less than a week ago. I’m still adjusting to it coming from a 15 Sonata sport that caught fire 🤯Definitely a learning curve but this video along with the comments confirm I made a good choice.

My brother recently got the hybrid version of this - had to wait 4 months for it. But he is very happy with it.
The hybrid doesn’t come out until November in the states.

Another great video. I ordered a LE model in Nov 2021 and it ships in April from Longo Toyota, the supposedly biggest dealer in the nation. This car will replace my 22 year old 2000 sienna which still runs great but is to big for us and has over 435, 000 miles.

this is not really Toyota's innovation. It's a car made off of a Mazda CX-30 in Huntsville, Alabama
I wouldn't call oil consumption/oil dilution problems "innovative." They've been going backwards if you ask me. I don't find their modern cars appealing at all. Super overpriced and the reliability has been getting WORSE over time, not better. How in the world do you justify spending all of that money? The older vehicles have ugly and uncomfortable interiors but at least they were reliable
Everybody is just copying each other.
Scotty’s only partially correct: it is a GDI engine (which gasoline direct injection), but it also has good old port injection to keep the carbon buildup that GDI engines get from happening.

I drive a 2018 Toyota iM - it also has a CVT engine. Never has an issue. Think this will be it's new replacement. Main reason is I'd prefer AWD for winters & higher up.

I’m still driving my manual 92’ Corolla which has great acceleration and gets at least 30mpg. But looking for a car to replace it this year, I’ll have to go test drive the Cross and see how that acceleration feels.

I have the Pontiac Vibe 2009, which is basically the Toyota Matrix this car came out in the right time! My pontiac is all rusted out from NY winters so this is a great option if I can find the car anywhere
Sorry to hear about your Vibe. Next time try Krown Rustproofing or another quality product. My 2005 Vibe here in Ontario is still rust free because I take it to Krown every year.

I had Pontiac Vibe, sister car to the Matrix. I think the Corolla Cross is a great idea. I would not get all wheel drive. I would get the front wheel drive model. The Vibe was an excellent car for my Vacations. 38mpg and comfortable, with enough space for an 11 day trip to Yellowstone National park. Very soon Toyota will have a hybrid version of this car. The corolla hybrid is rated at 53/52 mpg. I know epa ratings don't mean much, but this would make the car even better than it is.
I’d buy one. But curious back when you said all Toyotas are dipped in zinc. Doesn’t anybody else do that. Cause that’s a game changer to me

A family member has a Corolla Hybrid it is so amazing because you have little helpers at the tip of your throttle so I try to start moving with those then when the gas kicks in you give it a little lift until you are on the freeway and you can just let the computer control the pedals all automatically which is way safer because they never signal with their brakes wrong.

Scotty forgot to mention that the 158hp Matrix has displacement of 2.4L (Camry 4cylinder engine), while Corolla cross has 170hp out of 2.0L with better gas mileage. AWD vs FWD, weight and aerodynamics are not to be overlooked as well.
Incorrect, the 2003-2008 Matrix only had a 1.8L engine. The 2009-2014 Matrix had the optional 2.4L.
No, the Matrix has a 1.8 L engine.
The 2.4l engine only came in the XRS trim and S trim for latter models
And the fact that it has both gdi and port injection, he only mentioned gdi

I have a 2006 Toyota Matrix that has 287,650 miles. It’s still going but aging. Bought it new in 2006. I just ordered the Cross to replace it. Couldn’t test drive it because they had none in stock this review, priceless.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed with my mom's 2017 Corolla she gets about 27mpg if she's lucky. But, she mostly drives city. I'm able to get over 31-37mpg of my 2005 civic I'd rather them just go back to smaller engines. I have no issues getting up to speed on my 1.7L engine. but, I do believe my Civic is much lighter than the Corolla. Also, I can probably get better mileage out of the Corolla with my driving style. But still I thought cars would get at least 30mpg but, I was wrong. Not with "normal driving"

The worst CVT I have experienced was in the Mitsubishi lancer and I hated them from that point on. I then tried a Honda Jazz with a CVT and that was actually great. But I am curious to see how these new ones with the launch gear perform.
I still have my 06 Highlander hybrid with 300k and cvt has never given me any problems

How is the noise on the highway? This car was on the top of me and my wife’s list but some reviewers have been saying it’s incredibly loud with wind and road noise. My wife has a hearing condition so noise is a huge factor now in purchasing a vehicle
I'm expecting my new Corolla Estate in February 2023. It was ordered in March 2022, but due to the shortages of certain electrical components I have AGES to wait. Having had 4 new Toyota's in my life; & found them virtually "bulletproof", I'm looking forward to driving the Estate on a daily basis. The test drive was A M A Z I N G. Very comfortable. The Dealership had a device that recorded my journey on the test-drive, from start to finish and evaluated my drive.
My return = a near 50/50 use of both systems and I returned close to 59 MPG. My experience was a Positive + one. The lack of engine noise wasn't a problem as the car was super-quiet whether in Petrol or Electric mode. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Folks, I recommend the very least you should do is go and have a test drive. With leasehold on cars an inviting option these days it's worth thinking about. Y'all enjoy what's left of Summertime and safe driving.
I have a 2022 corolla hatchback xse, it's my first toyota car, corolla are nice to drive and it's a great cruise car. Plus, just paid it off
@@mcc7762 well my 2018 Honda civic trade in was 22,000. So it payed more then half the car. At closing I owed 7(bought the corolla in November)
@@mcc7762 that civic was brand new off the truck when I got it. Same for the corolla, but I'm hoping gas prices go down big time. I never in my life go over 30 dollars for gas in the 3 cars I owned
I wish they would have included the 6-speed manual option on these.
Sadly, manual transmissions are a dying breed. I think that electric vehicles will eventually replace gasoline and the shittiest thing about that is no manuals.
Yeah I completely agree. I drive a manual subaru crosstrek because I need AWD but I also can have a manual transmission.
I would have made the switch to a toyota years ago if I could have gotten Rav 4 or something of that ilk with a manual transmission and AWD.
I really like this corolla cross though I will probably buy one used for my daughter when she is old enough to drive in 10 years..

With the modern computer controlled automatic transmissions they are more efficient than a manual transmission. Just about every sports car which had a manual transmission option has gone to totally automatic transmissions.
Automatic transmissions now have 8 to 10 gears, imagine trying to shift through 8 to 10 gears manually.
I just sold a Corvette with a six speed manual transmission, a real powerful fast car. I didn't find much interest from dealers for the car, it is a limited edition 427, 60th anniversary Vette. I asked them why and was told it was because of the manual transmission. Corvette buyers want to drive the car fast and the manual transmission shifts slower than the modern automatic and the new C8 Corvettes don't even offer a manual any longer. And many younger drivers today can't even drive a manual.
@@johnphillips4342 yeah that's what I like the most about driving a manual. Nobody can borrow my car because they don't have a clue how to drive it. Besides I like feeling more connected to my vehicle just automatics just don't give me the driving experience I'm looking for.

Kinda weird seeing the battery almost in the middle of the engine compartment. Still nice ride. I'm holding my suspicious nature on the new motors and cvt tranny's. Gonna want to upgrade sometime but I'll be waiting and watching a while before I jump off the dock on that.
This vehicle is great for a starting family if your first child is around 7 years old or under
Maverick would be better. The bed comes in handy for all the dirty stuff you will have to bring home with the kids.
I thought Scotty didn't like DI engines due to the carbon build-up on the intake valves? He didn't mention if this has both DI & port injection as do certain other Toyotas, which would be smart. I do like that it has a launch gear for their CVT trans.

I had a 2006 Matrix, great car. Got about 40 mpg highway. I often wish I still had it.
@Darrell I have a 2006 silver Matrix base 150K miles, no issues aside from a heat shield rattling during the cold start. I’ll fix that later. I would never sell it for anything. I wash the undercarriage regularly, change the oil every 3000 miles, & i do all basic maintenance. Combine with detailing it regularly.

Hey Scotty, I have a 1995 Corolla DX wagon, got the oil changed about 600 miles ago and now it has a slight ticking noise coming from top of engine. Is this normal? Car has 238k miles but she runs like a champ! Btw if you’re in Clarksville I would love for you to take a look at it 😁
Using Mobile 1? Switch to Pennzoil Ultra, silent is a virtue. Amsoil will also work but expensive.
yeah.... no way in hell i'd trade my Corolla IM for this. I love my manual handbrake and my 6 speed. i don't know what i get for mpg but its enough to make me forget which side my gas cap is on.

Are there many complaint on the roof leakage of the Corolla Cross in the states ?
There were many cases in Taiwan. The use of simple o-ring to mount the roof rack was the root cause.
