Bought one in South Africa where I reside this past December I can vouch The Corolla Cross in any guise is currently beyond doubt one of the best cars money can buy period.
I bought my first car which is toyota corolla cross 2023 last month, I wanted to get Toyota Rav 4 but im short. I didn't regret it, its really easy to drive.
I have CCross basic for 11 months now. I logged all gas fills and oil changes(3: @1k, @3k, @5k miles). Now I am in 5k/6mnth cycle as CCN guides us. It has now 6k miles lifetime averaging 32mpg. I just love this CCross. No nonsense, comfort, safe, reliable, economy, ownership headache free and good looking mini SUV. I recommand to anyone who's looking for no nonsense reliable and a good car. Bty, I also have RAV4 2019 and I don't tell a noticable difference in passenger seat riding. My wife insists that there are none 😂
Just a curiosity as im waiting for my unit to come in (LE AWD). I was told that first service is at 4k miles while first oil change isnt until 10k or 6 months. Nothing wrong with changing your oil early but yours seems a little premature, just wondering if my dealer is full of shit or not.
We’ve had ours for a month n half now and love it, if you are a speed freak don’t buy it. If you want a comfortable ride, quiet, built like a tank quality and great fuel mileage buy it. We get from 30-35 mpg already at 2,600 miles. We got xle and enjoy everything about. Thanks for the review

I sold my 09 Corolla XRS at 180k miles, drove 60k miles only needing an alternator and the initial set of new tires. I seem to always need a new alternator at 150k miles.
Love BASIC! No frills just a vehicle to get ya from a to b, reliably. (Key word there.) The more computerized thingy-ma-giggy, the more expensive to fix when it doesn't work. I think the abstract etching looks like a CH-R too.

100% agree. Not sure why people expect a Corolla to be a speed demon. I’ve got no problem merging onto the freeway/interstate or passing someone with mine. No, it is not a Toyota supra, it’s a Corolla
Toyota never disappoints! My first car was a 1965 VW bug. It was really slow but it was very reliable and I loved it. It was basic transportation just like the Corolla Cross. Hey! Even Scotty said he would buy this vehicle when his own Toyota wears out.
Cross is what the RAV4 used to be during Gen 1 and Gen 2, before it started getting plussed up for Gen 3, and becoming a head turning near-Lexus that it is now.
Man, you always nail a very in-depth honest review. This is why I prefer Toyotas over other manufacturers, they put their technology into reliability. Like so many other manufacturers, Honda puts their tech and research into flash and glitter to sell their cars. Toyota always puts reliability and safety first.
Thanks for Mentioning the SPARE TIRE ASPECT because you and me BOTH WANT A SPARE TIRE AND "NOT!!!" an inflate kit. I would have been Very disappointed if this cross didn't have a tire. An actual deal breaker for me to now have to find one in a junk yard someplace
Excellent assessment sir - spot on with how its been for the past 5 months with my wife’s XLE and the reason we purchased it: “Basic and dependable”, with just enough modern features. Although I can’t say I like how it is “hopelessly slow” an with a CVT, my wife doesn’t mind it at all and completely loves the car 😊
By my name you may guess that speed is not my top priority but I got a laugh from AMD's exasperated choice of words today describing the engine compared to his optimistic remarks during the Jan 1 technical overview. Happy trails!
I saw one for the first time a couple of weeks ago in Florida. I thought it was a RAV4. I looked at the dimension specs, and it is only 2 inches smaller in each direction. It is a nice ride.
@stevecooper7883 I would think the drive train would be equally reliable. I recently saw a video from Weber University that demonstrated the eCVT. It is amazing how this works! I would like to see AMD talk on this, along with the rear axle electric motor.
Hopelessly slow … not an issue for me. I have a 2015 Yaris SE now. I fully intend to order the XLE … when it’s available in a Hybrid version. That could be a deal breaker for me if they don’t offer a Hybrid within the next year. I want a hybrid version vehicle now. I owned all kinds of Toyotas from the Echo and the Yaris, the Corolla, Matrix, RAV4, and two Siennas. At my age …72 years old, I now want a hybrid version and I want a common sense vehicle that will get me lots of mileage per gallon! I already get 50 km/g now. I want more!! The safety features are a plus. Let’s bring on the hybrid NOW!!!
The Corolla was always the every “mans” or “woman’s” car. Basic affordable dependable. Looking back through the years Toyota would add the Corolla name to introduce the new line. They should bring back the Tercel.
Never had any problems with the ones I’ve owned. I had a little oil consumption issues with the used one I got for my son, but It was abused before we got it. Then my son beat on it for a couple of years. Until it was wrecked. So what business is it of yours to tell me to move on. Just curious??
4 years ago I had a 1994 Tercel 2 door base model 4 speed manual. No power steering. I liked it. But, it was also abused before I got it. It popped out of 3rd gear going uphill had to hold it so it wouldn’t. And of coarse oil consumption. Other than that I liked it.
Enjoyed your review of this vehicle. I love technology in vehicles, but at 50 the simplicity of this vehicle is music to my ears. I don't need or want a bunch of confusing buttons, knobs, etc. I just want a vehicle that takes me from point A to B and has a few amenities. This seems to be right up my alley.
I'm about to purchase a Cross. Waiting for it to be delivered to the dealership, so I can test drive it! I've had 2 Corolla sedans and this will be my third Toyota vehicle. Toyota is my favorite. They are super dependable! ❤️ Can't wait for my test drive! 😁
Agree 👍 I have been driving my LE Premium Cross for over a month now and have been very happy but yes slow off the hop, but once you get going speed isn't a problem.
With mention of slow. FOR example if a car is in front of me and starts breaking. Would this Corolla cross have isuse with that? As in taking too long to stop and might hit the ither car?
i have a corolla cross with 2.0 engine. i use extreme driving style to get 5.0L/100km, which is 47MPG. i never go over 100km/h, seldom let the engine go over 2500rpm when accelerating and hyper mill when ever possible. so l smile when i see the gas pump, and its a different kind of fun to squeeze for MPG.
33k seems steep for a spec’d model.. I’d go for a lower trim personally, or a lower trim Rav. In my experience it’s always better to go for the next class of vehicle at a lower trim level than a lower class at a higher trim level. I do like the styling of this better than the Rav though. Most Toyotas these days are hideous to the point where I won’t buy one just because of the looks. This is a big step in the right direction.
I just added the bumper protector and the door sill protectors. I also put on wheel locks but another zonk is that there is no eye glass holder strange does Toyota think we all have 20 20 vision. they have the room where they could have added the eye glass holder. Other then that it is a great vehicle very quiet ride. Like Toyota says you ask for it you got it Toyota
Bought one last month and very happy with it. Was going to wait to see what the new HR-V would look like. Now that I see it will look just like a Ford Escape....I have no regrets with the Cross. I love it and it's very comparable with my 2015 Rav4.
I currently drive 2007 Corolla. You own RAV 4 and the Corolla Cross. Which one do you recommend? Is the acceleration ok? Comparing between the two. Thank you, Dan.
@@seattledreamer9901 Hi. Acceleration in the Corss is good for me but definitely not powerful. The backseat is smaller than the RAV4. But still fine with people in the back. I love the Cross so far. It's a Toyota so you know it will have very few issues. If the price is the same I would go with the RAV4. But if you can get the Cross for a good amount less, it's the way to go. Great has mileage as well. I get 31mpg right now. Half highway / half city. The front seats of the Cross are very comfy as well. Anyway, hope this helps a bit!

I really like this car and I used to own an 83 Corolla which I got well over 400k miles and sometimes drove it in back roads in Nevada visiting ghost towns. This new one is very tempting
I have watched a ton of Cross reviews on youtube. The "Nut" has produced the best common sense review that I have seen! This review, along with his technical review tells it all. If his "day job" plays out, he can always be a top notch Toyota salesman. lol
Test drove many subcompacts before choosing the Cross. For the price, quality, horsepower, cargo space, gas mileage, comfort and ride - it was the clear winner. Test drove 2 times before deciding on the LE AWD. I love this car. Was hoping for years for Toyota to come up with something smaller than the Rav4 for city driving. I don’t find it slow at all. I would say it is perfect for a good majority of people. If you are an aggressive driver, this may not be car for you. Even my husband, who drives fast, finds it just fine. He decided to push it during our test drives and had no problem merging or keeping up on highway traffic. He also tried throwing it into manual and we zipped along no problem. We like the ride and feel of the cross even more than the Rav 4. Decided to order now and not wait as cars just keeping going up in price. Hopefully next month I will get it! (I’ve been waiting 5 months here in Canada. :)
Great, accurate, fair review of this car. I bought it back in December and have had it for 6 months now. It drives well, has good features for its class in my opinion. Although, I do agree that it’s slow overall but the sports manual feature helps you mitigate this issue and it becomes pretty fun to drive. Cannot express enough how fuel efficiency this vehicle is as well! For me, it’s literally only 45$ to fill from empty…maybe 55$ if I get premium gas. All in all, a wonderful, reliable SUV that has great value! I highly recommend buying if you’re looking into compact SUVs
Toyota dealerships marks up the vehicle 10% over MRSP, they are not available and you cannot order a car the way you want it. Add in the only way to get heated seats is with XLE trim, it is a hard pass on this vehicle. I will get a Mazda Cx-30 or Subaru Crosstrek
Its worth it for the FULL SPARE TIRE alone!,,, I am a Driver and let me tell you,,, a Dummy tire you can only drive 35 mph and they only guaranteed for maybe 40/50 miles,,,, that wont do if you have a blow out flat on a weekend and nothing near you is open,,,, you never leave home without a full spare, a 4 way lug wrench and a jack.
When I first saw the Cross, my first thought was, "Looks just like a Mazda CX-5!" But shame on Toyota for only offering a puny 2.0L engine. My daughter's CX-5 has the 2.5L SkyActive engine but Mazda also has one with a turbo!!
I have mines since past year and Im in love with it. I have recieved many compliments about the color( green), the design etc. I travel a lot and I have felt very safe. 🤘
I really like the Corolla Cross. I really the exterior styling, was glad to see it didn't have the obnoxious grille that Toyota has seem to be stuck on for the last few years on the sedans. Driving one feels like a bigger Corolla. Very nice ride and quiet and solid feeling. It's a good around-town vehicle. It's definitely pokey slow on open roads and highways. I've never liked any version of the Corolla CVT and this is no exception. I can understand Toyota's logic behind using the Corolla drivetrain in this, but like you said, the 2.5/8 speed would have made this a lot more competitive and enjoyable in the small crossover market.
@@shadowhound5113 They definitely won't put a different engine for 2023. Maybe it will get a Hybrid version but probably 2024 at the earliest in the USA. Toyota plans and develops way in advance, and uses engines for a long time.
We bought one, an FWD LE. I like it overall, but not a big fan of the headrests. I wish the seat bottom on the driver seat would move up & down because I like to sit higher up when driving. And from what I've seen, the muffler looks a bit restrictive, a big barbecue pit type muffler. I ponder the idea of replacing this one with a freer flowing muffler to maybe help it "get up and go" more, but then again, I'm not looking for any louder exhaust system noise & I'm not about to eff with a brand new car under warranty. But it sure is a hell of a lot better than that 2015 Chevy Traverse we got rid of.
I decided against buying due to lack of power and CVT, Hate the engine is anemic, as I looked forward to purchasing when it was introduced here in 06/21
Thank you, AMD!!! Loved your common sense and basic functionality review! All points spot on!!! Love it!!! Common sense, quality and does NOT you $60K for a car that last at least more than 10 years!!!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and your experience with this new car. So many people (as you have stated) jump right in on what it does NOT have tech wise. You are correct that this is a simple get from point A to point B without having to stress out. I am now looking at helping our daughter get a new car and this one is number one on the list so far. I always enjoy your reviews because you do not try to impress us with your knowledge or have a need to fill your ego. I rather hear a review from you ADM since you actually work on the cars you speak about. Thanks again for your time and effort!
Back in 1989 I bought my first Toyota. The car was a corolla 4wd est. I loved that car, very practical but it only had a 1600 engine so was lacking in power. Traded that lovely corolla in 1995 for a gen 1 RAV4 and since then I am now on to my 8th RAV4 hybrid. Maybe if I want a smaller car might go back to this new Corolla, but hanging out for the new BZ4X. Good video.
The logo on the windshield is actually that of the Corolla Cross. It's the concept lines Toyota used before the CC was unveiled, and the lines help accentuate the fender creases along with the sleek roof accent found on the CC..
I really like it. It's what I want for a small family hauler. I have the Camry XLE for a cruiser, this would be great for when I need space. Don't care how slow, really not a fast driver. Problem though, no one has it on any lot. All I see are dozens of RAV 4.
I have a cross and drove a rental 2022 Camry recently and the leg room is not much different. I was surprised because I previously had a 2011 Camry with plenty of leg room. It appears they’re making vehicles smaller now.
The power of the engine is the only thing that's preventing me from buying one. I've had 3 Corollas and while they were very solid, reliable cars, merging onto a crowded freeway was almost always a challenging experience. I'll have to go with a RAV4, which isn't really a sacrifice because it's still a high quality vehicle.
@@thetechlibrarian I’ve never had a problem merging with my 19 RAV4. If people won’t let me in I hit the rock strewn shoulder. They back off quick when their car gets pelleted with rocks. The rocks don’t hurt the RAV4 with all the molding on the bottom.
Thank you so much for doing a review of this model! Have been curious. So glad it’s back to basics. I prefer the older model RAV4 and Highlander. Don’t like the newer models AT ALL. I OPTED FOR 2018 Outback instead of RAV4. I’m looking at Corolla Cross to replace my Outback. Agree lack of zip is a drawback but I don’t cover much distance. The hybrid version would be PERFECT. We just bought a 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid. Very happy with the car. Just replaced our 2011 Siena with 200k. It was a very good car but we need to update. This is much smaller than the sienna, but still plenty of room for us. Great mileages , so far we are getting 40.2 mpg. Very comfortable, not that noises, the ecvt tranny is a but noises to take off but not that noisey drive around. We have the xse model. Power lift gat and sunroof. Very comfortable seats. Let you know in a year how it’s doing.
If you are a passenger in the back seat pray you don’t go on a long trip. I saw your knees almost touching the front seat. It would be a big problem if the front passenger pushed the front seat back.

It doesn't make you smile for its fun but it does makes you impressed by its reliability. A Hassle free car through and through.
This reminds me of the 2009 Pontiac Vibe, which was basically a Corolla. I liked the 2005-2008 Vibes for reliability, but the first 2003 looked the best. the 2009 vibe was kind of puffed out as is the Cross.
I had a 2008 auto with the moon and tunes package, bought used with 36k miles. It was a great car, just not quite enough leg room for me. Sold it to a shorter friend after three years and he loved it.
Toyota = KISS which is what we love about our 2023 Camry XLE AWD. Keep It Simple Steve!!! Will DEFINITELY be checking out the 2025 Corolla Cross (hybrid?) when my Kona lease is up late next year!
We sat in this car the other day at the Seattle car show. Frankly it's darn nice. As you pointed out its simple to the point and affordable. We were thinking of the Lexus UX Hybrid but now are seriously considering the upcoming Corolla Cross Hybrid.
If I didn’t know for a fact that my 2005 RAV4 is going to run another 10 years; I would run out and buy this one, if I could find one that is. I’ll wait till they add a bigger engine/horse power.

Good review. Slow or not, it will sell in big numbers. Two other compact awd crossovers that sold well from the begining and still are in demand are subaru crosstrek , Honda hrv and to a lesser extent, the mitsubishi rvr( the stubby one ). All three of those vehicles started out with just barely adequate engine power and were in the 0-60 range of about 9.5-10.5 seconds. Evenetually both the mitsubishi and the subaru offered a slightly bigger motor with a 170-180 HP . That made the vehicles a bit faster, around 8-8.5 secs and the mpg did not suffer much. The only hold out was the honda hrv with it's one and only engine of around 145 hp. Customers still bought them because they did not need or want a ''fast'' vehicle, they were looking at good mpg, functonality, roominess for a compact crossover, reliability, day to day driveability, a dependable commuter/ small family car or a first time young buyer/ older retiree who wanted something affordable and basic. I think toyota will offer the hybrid in the corolla cross, but it will still be all about getting the best mpg and really, maybe the 0-60 might achieve only 8-8.9 seconds. Which would still be very very acceptable for most new car buyers in this category.

I bought one - got the XLE w/AWD and I absolutely love it! Best and safest car I’ve ever owned!
I trust your opinion above all others. You bring massive value to your viewers!
Simplicity can be so Beautiful. Thank you TOYOTA.

After your review, I may buy one. I'm driving a 2013 Corolla and it's been the best car I've ever had. So, I say to myself, "there's nothing wrong with your car, you don't need a new one". But I want one! ☺️
I’m on the same boat (matrix 2009) that’s the “problem” with Toyotas, be careful what you wish for 😂
I have Toyota Matrix 2006 with 260,000 mileage on it still running, from your review I’m considering a Toyota Cross to be my next car.
I’ve had my Corolla cross for 8 months now and it’s an excellent car, high quality, and comfortable. I disagree with your opinion that the engine is hopelessly slow. I have no problem around town, it’s excellent and has adeQuate speed when required. As for highway, I also have had no issues with merging or passing. People will test drive and will find out the suv is not slow at all.
100% agree. Not sure why people expect a Corolla to be a speed demon. I’ve got no problem merging onto the freeway/interstate or passing someone with mine. No, it is not a Toyota supra, it’s a Corolla
Will this last 300k miles+ like a normal Corolla
I've had mine for almost 6 months love it everything is great
I hope I can afford that car someday. Totally what I have been looking for a long time. I drive a 2012 Corolla LE now 161k miles. Still GOING👌
Toyota never disappoints! My first car was a 1965 VW bug. It was really slow but it was very reliable and I loved it. It was basic transportation just like the Corolla Cross. Hey! Even Scotty said he would buy this vehicle when his own Toyota wears out.
I had a 62 beetle and my ego was hurt everytime a greyhound passed me, and I was freezing in it every winter in upstate NY.
But I loved it
His Matrix might never die
I ordered one for the wife yesterday, won't get it until 2024. Everybody wants one.
Cross is what the RAV4 used to be during Gen 1 and Gen 2, before it started getting plussed up for Gen 3, and becoming a head turning near-Lexus that it is now.
The newest RAV4 is now legit midsize, the same size as the 1st Gen Highlander. The 6th Gen will be the same size as the 2nd Gen Highlander.

Man, you always nail a very in-depth honest review. This is why I prefer Toyotas over other manufacturers, they put their technology into reliability. Like so many other manufacturers, Honda puts their tech and research into flash and glitter to sell their cars. Toyota always puts reliability and safety first.
Again, you're honest and it tells your viewers everything we need to know about this crossover. Well done!
I purchased it in February for my daughter
We loved it absolutely great vehicle
I saw one for the first time a couple of weeks ago in Florida. I thought it was a RAV4. I looked at the dimension specs, and it is only 2 inches smaller in each direction. It is a nice ride.
I'd rather get the rav4 though, as Toyota has been putting those out for decades and worked out all the bugs. Same size, more power too
more bucks too I imagine
I'm with you. If I could afford a new car, this is the one I'd get... with the hybrid option.
I own one. Yes it's around 10 seconds 0-60 but in real world driving it's perfectly fine. Is made for economy and practicability not for speed
Wolfy is interested in the Corolla Cross, but MUST have in hybrid version. If not, then RAV4 hybrid will be the way…
Hopelessly slow is how you get good mpg without hybrid.
They just announced the hybrid version this morning!👏👏
The Corolla was always the every “mans” or “woman’s” car. Basic affordable dependable. Looking back through the years Toyota would add the Corolla name to introduce the new line. They should bring back the Tercel.
Pronouce "Turd-sell".
Never gonna happen, move on
Uh, no. The turdcel stunk. 💩🤣

Thank you . We are planning to buy cross . The only thing we need is good reliable car which takes me from A to B .

This is an excellent car for my 80 yr old mother!!! She would love it and I think it’s quite nice too, especially the Hybrid!
i have a corolla cross with 2.0 engine. i use extreme driving style to get 5.0L/100km, which is 47MPG. i never go over 100km/h, seldom let the engine go over 2500rpm when accelerating and hyper mill when ever possible. so l smile when i see the gas pump, and its a different kind of fun to squeeze for MPG.
Good choice of words: a car that won’t add a burden to people’s lives.
The best car with out too much Junk, Very practical Good job Toyota!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that's a front end I could fall in love with.
Would have liked to see Toyota offer the manual transmission as an option. A 6-speed AWD version would be pretty sweet.
Yes, 6 speed manual, AWD and Camry 2.5 engine would be even better!!

I absolutely hate cross overs. But I'm loving this. Great review as always, AMD. Thanks for this video.
Why do you not like cross overs?
I really like this car and I used to own an 83 Corolla which I got well over 400k miles and sometimes drove it in back roads in Nevada visiting ghost towns. This new one is very tempting
Is it one of those legendary AE86 models?
I am happy with mine, a hybrid, what with rising petrol prices. Very practical, safe and easy to handle.
I have found the acceleration to be more than adequate driving around the city and no problems merging onto the freeway.
I have watched a ton of Cross reviews on youtube. The "Nut" has produced the best common sense review that I have seen! This review, along with his technical review tells it all.
If his "day job" plays out, he can always be a top notch Toyota salesman. lol
AMD would do a great job at any Toyota dealership that expects their sales people to tell the truth.
Does the Cross actually get better mpg than a more spacious, made-in-Canada RAV4?
I have the LE AWD in Canada too, and I have gotten 6.6L (35MPG) on it. Which is amazing! So yes it’s possible. Drive it nice, and it will reward you.

@@chrispapas303 That sounds great! Good to see you are enjoying it.
The cost to fill a tank depends on the size of the tank and the price of gas in your area. Literally nothing to do with the fuel economy of the car.
Offer the 6 speed iMT manual with AWD in a new SE trim!
Yes indeed, AMD has officially pronounced judgment and the 2.0 is 2 point slow in a Corolla when it weighs as much as a Camry!

😁😁
Hopefully Toyota puts a better engine in it for the 23 model. I like the cross but I want to get 0 - 60 in at least 8 seconds.

The logo on the windshield is actually that of the Corolla Cross. It's the concept lines Toyota used before the CC was unveiled, and the lines help accentuate the fender creases along with the sleek roof accent found on the CC..

The power of the engine is the only thing that's preventing me from buying one.
It would sell if you can get one when you need it tho.
@@moeanthony9308 ...mmm...eventually this vehicle scarcity, new and used, over pricing fiasco-drama will subside and life will return to normal. I hope.
I buy used vehicles anyways. Cnnot afford to buy anything new, do not want to finance for 5 years. So i buy $5k-7k vehicles in good condition and with low maintenance .
So hoping it gets better in the ensuing months or by next year.
@@tonya.1697 Makes total sense to some degree and i can tell you, i drove many old cars but from a safety perspective and driving a newer car. Thankful before i leave this earth to splurge. Lifes too short if you can afford
@@tonya.1697 Cars are appreciating will be awhile yet before they drop including used
@@moeanthony9308 , ya, i understand needing a new vehicle now and then. Sometimes ne has to break open that piggy bank and get something new/safe/reliable/something fun or that suits their daily needs
. I have had about 3 new vehicles in my 36 years of driving history. But i lie in a city with crappy, stagnate wages and very very high costs of living. I do not want or cannot afford to get buried in car loans when there is a struggle to pay rent/food/monthly expenses. I'm good with buying 7-10 year old Japanse , averaging about 5-6 years before i get bored and move onto another vehicle. I maintain my vehicles very good mechanically and also with the interiors, so i usually sell my vehicles pretty quick as most buyers are impressed and agree my price is very reasonable for what they are getting.
Actually , just tonight i had two cousins over and they really loved my 2006 nissan Xtrail , commenting on nice shape it is in. One of them said if i want to sell it, he has a buddy who needs a vehicle for his daughter and my suv would easily sell if i'm interested. Probably is, i sell it for $4k-8k....i go spend even more for something old and high mileage . Probably just wait it out and drive my truck .
In my country, this car is quite expensive for an entry level basic vehicle. Thanks for the review, really honest point of view, which will help me with my choice for the new family car.
When they stick a hybrid powertrain in that baby Rav 4, it will become their second best selling vehicle. Good review!
They should put a 6 cyl in more Ravs and stop making all new Toyotas with CVT's, that was a big mistake
