    Welcome to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. Today we're keeping it real with the Tumnus from Wampler Pedals. The Tumnus combines two highly desirable features into one pedal: a dynamic, transparent overdrive and a microscopic form factor. The Tumnus makes no bones about its resemblance to another mythical pedal, and expands on its rich heritage while keeping its hoofprint down. Three knobs are all you need to wring the most tone from your amp, and its deceptively simple controls hold a ton of settings. The Gain knob is actually a blend control, when set all the way left, the Tumnus gives you a clean boost that sounds good with literally anything before or after. When the Gain is cranked, you're treated to some seriously rich grit that stacks equally well, courtesy of a fine-tuned clipping arrangement. Players piloting a rig that tends to be a little dark can boost any lost treble frequencies with the handy Treble knob, which does a good job of keeping your tone out of the weeds at higher Gain settings. Any selection between both ends of the Gain knob gives a mix of boost and drive, for maximum adaptability. Because of its stacking ability brought on by a legendary buffer section, you can place the Tumnus at any point in your signal chain to add a hint of sparkle that elevates your tone no matter where it is. And like all Wampler pedals, the Tumnus is made right here in the USA.

    Thanks for doing a low-gain demo. It seems like most people making demo videos just go for the extremes and don't understand that musical expression is often found in subtlety (or that's just not something they're concerned with in the genres they're interested in). This is especially true with electric instruments which are often naturally compressed so the sense of dynamics is conveyed through timbre. I wish everyone doing demos would explore the entire range of a pedal, not just what's between 12 O'clock and 5 O'clock on the knobs.

    • @cwwisk
      @cwwisk 3 года назад +1

      That is an interesting point on compression and timbre. I somewhat agree, but a guitar with good pickups should have noticeable logarithmic volume (which is what we hear in music) directly relative to the attack or power of the stroke of the note. Volume swells are definitely more noticeable on a nicer guitar than a more entry level one and react similarly to an acoustic. Timbre is another way to soften a sound, but you will not lose noticeable volume. And those who can use both have a firmer grasp on overall tone.

    I've had one for a while, and it's as amazing as Andy showed. I use it with a clean boost before it and another stacked OD after. I can get a ton of different combinations. Well worth looking into.

    I've recently gotten a hold of one of these and it is not just about the sound, but the "feel" as you are playing it, something no youtube demo, however well produced, can show us.. We all know our own guitars tone and sound right? Well playing this you can "feel" the original tone, sound and nuances coming through but with a gorgeous mid range punch and grit - you have to play it to understand it.. Great pedal at a great price (even better if you can pick one up used)..

      Need to come back to this. I must confess I was oblivious to this album. "All you can carry" caught my attention (took me one afternoon to transcribe it completely) - to me the sound simply justified the need to learn guitar. Now I am learning "Shadow people" which is beautiful in its simplicity. To all who read this : Tom's sound proves that a masterpiece does not require complex chords. Truly amazed and respectful! And Andy's approach truly nailed it, excellent choice for demonstrating WT! Would appreciate tips to approach the Shadow people guitar tone, got the WT pedal, the tubescreamer mini, the Xotic SL drive and a Katana MKII. Thanks!

      Picks affect Attack not Tone. The core voicing of the pedal will not going to change with pick vs fingers. I've heard players with softer pick attack than my nails as well. I was still able to hear the pedal doing its thing. Hope this helps.
