Yeah the spec is one last ugaduga from the impact or the hand held wrench. It’s a caliper. Not a fucking lifter on a header. Just make sure it’s tight but not over tighten you noob
Correct way to do this service. Same on Model S and been doing that on our S cars since 2013. ( did this on all our ICE cars back in the good old days but brake pads had to be changed every second year ).
And no thread-lock on the bolts! Apart from that it was clear & anyone with common sense can change brake pads. I would have hooked up the calliper to make sure it didn't drop & check the condition of the brake pipes for any nicks or signs of cracking & check the calliper dust seals were not damaged .
It’s incredible the amount of people that don’t believe me when I tell them Tesla recommends servicing the brakes every 12 months. Thank for proving them wrong. Although they might say no one follows recommendations anyway. Hilarious. I’m guessing they’re confusing replacing with servicing. Great video by the way.
Tesla manual Additionally, Tesla recommends cleaning and lubricating the brake calipers every year or 20,000 km if in an area where roads are salted during winter months.
Great video. Thank you. I know essentially nothing about car repair, but I do have one question... Isn't there some sort of paste that is supposed to be applied to the backside of the brake shoes to prevent squealing? It looked like the pads you removed had dried stuff on the backside, which if true could have been the paste I mentioned. Not sure if my memory is correct, hence the question. All the best.
I love when I finish the front side of a car and forgot to turn the wheel out for easier access. Rear pins need attention some too. Very little lube in them from the factory.
It's a good first attempt. Next time maybe clean better and yes a wire wheel on a drill. Also remove rotor and put some anti seize. Also lube slide pins.
I have a TESLA model Y. Want to know on average, how long do the brakes last before need a change ? Do front brakes wear faster than the rear? Usual in conventional car, front brake wear out faster due to increased weight of engine. when should you bleed brake of the TESLA? Reply
Great video, thanks! I did let Tesla do maintenance on the brakes pre to my first oficial revision on my Tesla 3 2021. Do you know if the Tesla service workshops are doing something more when maintaining the brakes?
Thank you for the video.. helps a lot. Do you think other tyre companies can do the job ? I got quotes from Tesla and A tyre company.. 200$ with a Tyre service centre and 536 $ with Tesla
I have Model 3 and driven about 85,000km (4.5 years) and NEVER KNEW I had to do service brake.... Do you recommend getting checking by Tesla or would it be okay just to do it by myself?
You may want to do it first by Tesla and do it yourself going forward. It’s a lot easier to maintain as a DIYer when they’re already cleaned and maintained.
New brakes always get treated with lube there, since it's a moving part. EVs need this because the brake pads and rotors last so long since they get less use than ICE vehicles. So, this is to keep the brakes working well for a lot longer. Many EV brake pads can last 10+ years.
Do you happen to know the torque setting for the rear caliper bolts?
Should be 19 ft/lbs. I just didn’t have a torque wrench for the smaller sizes.

What does this mean? Do I have to tighten it in a certain nm? Sorry about my English
@@AzizIzginyes
@@AzizIzgin 19ft-lb is aprox 25.8 Nm
Thank you! I was going to to go to Tesla services cuz I didn’t know how to change the brakes, but this video is super helpful and easy.
Thanks. Good luck
@@northerntesla Since they the pads are similar which one goes in the back?
I have been changing my tires but having the Tesla service do the brake service. Looks easier than I thought. Thanks!
💯 if you’re already down there, might as well.
I think you missed checking the rear pins for seizing, you could have also cleaned them and re- lubed.
Best Tesla brake service video on RUclips. Thank you.
Thanks!

Thanks. You’re probably right in regards to people confusing brake service with replacing.
And this job from Tesla is like 500 bucks.
@@daviidfm923is it really?

@@meanboy2000so we spend 536$ every year for cleaning and lubricating the callipers ? 😢
Thanks so much for this! I'll be taking mine apart in the next couple weeks; this clarified all of my questions 👍
Awesome. Good luck!
Great video just one concern on my part that pad you showed had a pretty good Crack in the inside and split to where it connects to metal back
Great tutorial... I would suggest emery cloth for the pad ends and pins.
Thanks for the tip
At the rear - You can take out the bottom bolt and losing the top and just swing it up to get the pads off right?
GOOD JOB MAN

You can add a bit of lubrication on the back side where the pistons touch the pad. But it’s not necessary according to Tesla service.
I love when I finish the front side of a car and forgot to turn the wheel out for easier access. Rear pins need attention some too. Very little lube in them from the factory.
I think it would have a been a good idea to lubricate the rear clipper slide pins too

Can you show us. How
Good stuff, my man! Great info, well made video and details. I salute you.
Thanks, appreciate it.
rear caliper bolts are reverse thread?
Did you grease the sliding front mounts as well during this?

I’d imagine you’d probably never have to change the brakes. I’ve seen pads last as long as 350,000 km.
I think I’ll try that next time!
Easy and straightforward
Thanks, for the video, easy task. Just checked if there is something special for this task, Very good video and clear content.

The only additional thing they do is check the brake fluid. The total cost with labour of the tesla brake maintenance is around 280-320

Do you need to push the Pistons in?
Not unless you're installing new (thus thicker) pads.
Thank you for an informative, accurate video but your background music is very annoying.

I believe he meant, “with the brush”.
Don't get lube on the brake pad

Normal for a troll
Wheres the regenerative braking mechanism? This Looks just like a regular car brake system.
It still has a traditional braking system. It’s just not used very much
Regenerative braking happens in the motor and it's not actually through the braking system. That's why brakes don't get used that much.
