right back at you. this is analysis video with a majority of facts with personal opinion only stated at the end of the points. it takes special people to get this rilled up by facts
i also found it a bit weird how they kept specifying how it was a female member who got assaulted by Joost, i feel like if it was a male member who got assaulted they wouldnt mention that part. feels like they're trying to make the situation seem 'worse'
@@em..lovescats123 what #joostice mate? what justice??? The NL singer harassed a crew member (male or female, does it matters????) because supposedly the crew member threw the camera into his nose and didn't respect his privacy (or at least, that's what I understood from the NL side) . How can you defend this? The DQ is absolutely justified and NL should be happy they only got away with this. Do you actually think EBU is happy they had to take such a decision?? NL is the biggest financial contributor , outside of the big 5. Do you really think EBU would want to get into a fight with the NL broadcaster if it was only "a small incident" ??? Especially in these moments when more and more small broadcasters don't afford the participation fees??? Do you really think that? Joost is in 99.99% of the scenarios GUILTY and the disqualification is absolutely deserved. I don't get how everyone throws the blame on EBU but maybe you should point the finger towards the "artist". Guy just harassed someone and , out of the bloom, he's the victim. WTF?! So what "#joostice" you talk about there? I'm genuinely curious to hear some arguments about it
@@EurovisionESC From what we currently know, Joost had a verbal altercation with a person filming them backstage and pushed away a camera (possibly causing it to fall). This person had been filming Joost at a prohibited time several times and had been told to stop several times before, including by the EBU. Even from what little information we have now that is verified by the different parties involved to a reasonable degree; Joost was the person being harassed here, not the other way around. Within the limits of the facts we know, the response he gave may range from somewhere between unideal (but understandable) to problematic. The EBU, knowing about this much, disqualified The Netherlands stating: "We have a zero-tolerance policy towards inappropriate behaviour at our events and will always take necessary action to address threats to staff - no matter who they come from." Joost's behaviour wasn't "good", but, without making assumptions about the exact further contents of the altercation that remain unknown, certainly understandable in this context. We could discuss for a long time about whether Joost should've been punished or not. In the end, that much wasn't disputed by the Dutch delegation, nor most people I've seen talking about this. The big problems come from the severity of the punishment given the circumstance in question, the EBU's inconsistent enforcing this "zero tolerance" policy to the detriment of the comfort and safety of artists and press (which could've prevented this situation too), as well as the EBU's subsequent actions, such as their comments taking aim at the constants (broadly) and their (at best) irresponsible (and at worst libellous) actions towards Joost following the incident. Or in simpler terms: Joost received a disproportionate response to bad, but understandable behaviour under a selectively applied "zero tolerance" policy, followed by a bunch of problematic actions by the EBU; including some that could've unduly destroyed Joost's reputation.
@@wumwum42the juries would hate on estonia this year regardless, even a sizeable tele portion saw it possible estonia would NQ or do horrible in tele in the final(and estonia did do horrible in tele in the finals), but considering how hard they tried to erase the existence of the Netherlands from the final it's not hard to see thst they also had a problem with the estonian representatives saying thank you in dutch instead of estonian or english, the EBU has proven many times its claws run deep💀💀💀
Dutchie here. No country has ever been disqualified in the 67 years it exists. But then The Netherlands got the honour. They did'nt only disqualify Joost, but a whole COUNTRY! How do you explain to your children that he isn't allowed to be in the final when you don't know yourselve what happened? Even now we don't know what exactly happened! Kids crying, us not understanding. It was a terrible day. We did'nt watch the final. We let our kids to stay up late (because I promised they could stay up to see the final) and watched some movies.
Israeli here. Welcome to the club of being sh!ted on and trying to explain that to your children. We feel you. At least you don't have teenagers uploading videos online, trying to be liked for hating you as well
Omg so sad I'm sobbing 😭. Your kids are lucky that they didn't get to see a role model of a childish kid, who isn't willing to look at something he doesn't like and bullies people he doesn't like.
The most ironic moment was when the EBU, desperate to erase Joost from the contest like he never participated, BANNED EU FLAGS FROM ENTERING THE ARENA. They made awful choice after awful choice, but this one was the more braindead of all.
Remember when we were all arguing about whether Sweden or Finland should have won and people went crazy with conspiracy theories. I'd like to go back to that...
Remember the time when we stressed about the winner being a bad song? I don't think I can ever truly do that anymore. Not after Stefania and Hurricane.
@user-wf7yg7uy2e it objectively isn't. Maybe it's not your thing, but that doesn't make it a bad performance. The singing was good and it had different genres mixes in one, so it wasn't as "generic" as most other songs this year. Cry harder
I’d argue it’s always kinda been like this. I am not a big Eurovision fan, but 1944 by Jamala will always hold a special place in my heart. The comments on that video are VILE, saying she’s a terrible singer or sounds too emotional when she’s singing about generational trauma. OF COURSE SHE’S GOING TO BE UPSET.
@user-wf7yg7uy2e Nemo has amazing singing skills and the song was actually good. Although I have to admit I didn't like Bambie Thug in the least, at least I can admit that it simply isn't to my taste and not a question of being good or bad (in fact, I do like a few parts of the song...the non screaming ones...). Every type of music and song has it's expected audience and we can all enjoy different types of music. But the fact that Nemo gave a great performance has nothing to do with taste. There were indeed songs that were not as good as others (or not too bad but ruined it with the whole "running around without pants"). I didn't like cha cha cha in the least last year (to this day I still don't understand why people wanted that song to win when there were a lot of better songs/performances there (to my personal view, at least)) but I won't say it was a bad song/performance because I understand that my PERSONAL taste does not equate to something being good or bad.
The Joost Klein incident sounds like a classic middle school situation where one child bullies another and the second child gets in trouble if they fight back. I wouldn't say that either side in perfectly innocent in all of this, but the context matters a lot and EBU seems to have ignored it.
one is a crew member. the other is a fk artist that is there to fulfil his fk dream I wonder which one should know to fk behave? (of course, both. But which one had more to lose from a fight????)
Disappointing but unsurprising, another Eurovision RUclipsr had her video demonetized right after sharing on her community post that all earnings would be donated to a charity helping Palestinian civilians, the EBU's claws run deep.
@mikaq817 now THIS is insane. In my case the clip I used was just too long, but with everything that happened in ESC this year as a backdrop, that sure doesn't sound like a consequence 💀
the EBU know that they made some extremely horrible decisions that spiraled the whole contest right out of control and even almost threatened its existance, but they still hate receiving criticism for it and try to cencor anyone who makes videos or talks about the situation online. That's how I see it at least. I honestly wouldn't be suprized if in 2025 at least one of these three things happens: 1. KAN is expelled from the EBU and therefore Israel is barred from ever participating in the future 2. MASS withdrawal from countries regardless of wether or not Israel competes in 2025 3. Boycotts unlike we've ever seen before I've already lost interest personally in this contest since 2022, but now I'm not sure if I even want to watch 2025

@@andreaslefteri3661 If they lose the Netherlands they'll hit a funding problem since they're the 6th highest contributor. At least it seems AVOSTROS will pull out and it doesn't seem like another broadcaster will happily step up.
A bit of context here - Israel's involvement with the contest has always been a hot topic ever since...Israel first competed. Not many know this, but countries from the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa) are also eligible to compete as long as they have EBU membership (for that they need to be in the European Broadcasting Area, which encompasses not only Europe). Tunisia tried to participate all the way back in 1977, but didn't due to...Israel participating. Jordan omitted their entry from their broadcast of the 1978 edition and as far as they were concerened Belgium (the runner-up) was the 'winner'. Morocco entered for the first and (as of 2024) only time they took part in the ESC, but that was a year in which Israel didn't compete. Lebanon also tried to enter in 2005, but due to laws forbidding broadcasting Israeli content in the country, they didn't enter. Algeria, Libya, Egypt and Jordan could also technically participate, but due to Israel's participation they don't
Lebanon was so funny! They even chose a song and all, and then they realized they have to broadcast the whole show, without censoring Israel, so they withdrew.
@@jor.mungan The EBU could've split them in the semi-final and give Lebanon a pass by not airing the semi-final involving Israel. But what if both made it to the Grand Final and the EBU would've been like "Uh-oh, we have ourselves a problem". But I think the requirement is for any participating country to broadcast all 3 live shows - both semi-finals and the Grand Final. Perhaps Lebanon should've known better that Israel was going to compete anyway and not bother
All of these countries need to realise that Israel is using this competition heavily to promote its image and appear "European". They need to look and feel European like the rest of the continent. And all of these countries need to realise that being on EU screens is more important as a promotion than it is to ban Israeli materials from their programs. Having them appear with their heritage, their songs and feel like they belong as much as Israel would boost their image in media. Having said that, Eurovision is so LGBT friendly that having such a program on TV in predominantly Muslim countries feels like fever dream.
@@ivankrizanic507 ESC Gabe has a great video about how Azerbaijan and Israel are "art-washing" (Israel also pinkwashing) their image through Eurovision. Worth a watch!
as a Dutch person I am pissed that Joost was disqualified while it was the camera woman who was in the wrong in the first place. What we know for now, he made a "threatening gesture" to the camera woman. Sure, that is not nice, but this was already the SECOND incident where he was filmed against his will, and I think anyone would be upset by that. Multiple artists had spoken out about how the mood was backstage and that they were often filmed without them wanting it. Edit: surprise, surprise the court dropped the case because of lack of evidence, but the EBU doesn't agree lmao.
We don't know all the facts yet, so we can't really judge the situation. In any case, innocent until proven guilty was not applied here, which is why it pisses so many off. Especially because the zero tolerance policy appears to be zero tolerance for anyone but Israel. And let's also understand that this camera person was working within the same pressure cooker as the contestants. She is now either swimming in regret, because she overreacted and blew this way out of proportion and feels like she can't go back now. Or she felt genuinely attacked and now sees all the support for Joost across the globe. Either feeling is a shit feeling. And on top of that, whatever the outcome of the investigation and suit, if her identity is ever revealed her life is ruined. There are just no winners in this scenario. Either way, the complete disqualification was the worst possible decision and it should not have gone down like that. I don't think many here in the Netherlands will be Eurovision fans after this.
It amazes me how people will chat "believe all women" only when its comfortable for then. The second it hits home and you actually have to sacrifice somthing real, it's back to the old ways
@@noamkoren7390 what if the camera person had been male? Why was it relevant for the ebu to mention gender at all here? In their statement they said "a female crew member", why couldn't they just have said "a crew member"? It should not make a difference. As I said, if he did wrong he should be punished for it. If they thought he was a danger, they could've told him he couldn't be in the arena and played his performance from the second semi final instead and then disqualify him after the fact if need be.

@Turska64not to hate, of course, but i'm pretty sure that the contest was held in zagreb at some point (before croatia became an independent country and was still part of yugoslavia if i recall correctly)
Eurovision has truly become a capitalist dystopian nightmare. Big sponsors get special treatment while poorer countries keep withdrawing due to financial issues. Might as well promote Israel to Big 5 status considering how much money "Moroccan"oil contributes.
@@butterenthusiast the point is that because morrocanoil is an israeli company and the main sponsor(plus EBU swept the actions of the Israeli delegation under the rug to not anger said sponsor) Israel might as well become another automatic finalist
"Capitalist blah blah". My god. The EBU acted unprofessionally but not unfairly. The entire contest runs on money, and if you don't have money you won't be able to perform. The Israeli delegation was annoying yes, but there was no actual reason for them to be disqualified. A lone member of a delegation acting childish is not the same thing as when the artists themselves acts that way.
I think it DOES make a difference that Joost is a male artist and it was a woman holding the camera. Suppose the genders were the inverse, and a cameraman was ignoring the boundaries of a female artist. In that case she wouldn't have been disqualified and the cameraman would have lost his job. I try to say that sexism hurts us all.
Now get out of your binary position and accept that non-binary people also exist, one won the contest. If it were Nemo and not Joost, would that have made a difference? What about if it had been Olly Alexander, Silvester Belt or any of the other gay artists being harassed by a (possibly heterosexual) woman? What if it had been Saba, a lesbian, pushing away the woman's camera? Please check your patriarchal and heteronormative ideas at the door.
the double standard in the joost situation is crazy. I would have ALSO pushed the camera away if someone was asking me about my dead parents after REPEATEDLY telling them to not record me (especially in an area you weren't even allowed to record in)
At this point, Eurovision for me became solely an event, where I could discover artists and follow them in the future. I don't care what place the artist finishes or how their song is received. Croatia was my top favourite, absolutely adored everything about the song and performance. I loved Ireland too, it was so artistic, bold and captivating. I'm still gonna follow Joost and his future endeavours in the music industry. And the same goes for Norway, who were ROBBED. In the end, screw the contest, but it allows me and millions of other people to discover new artists and potentially becomes a stepping stool into a successful career for some of them (like Baby Lasagna, who went from an unknown guy writing songs in his bedroom to a Croatia's hero, I seriously love his story).
I feel like us croatians forgot about eurovision and baby lasagna being robbed of winning. Everyone is celebrating him like he won 10 eurovisions 🥳 just the other day I was on a festival where he performed, it was crazzzy
I've been following the contest since 2011 and that has ALWAYS been my reason to watch it. I don't really care who wins, I'm never rooting for my country (Germany. Haha.), my favorites never win anyways (It was Norway this year, that really hurt) but I get to find new songs and artists to like. I count this year as a win in terms of that. Many many excellent artists with great songs, I don't think I ever had so many songs that I liked.
Imagine being Dutch and hearing your country is disqualified, but they refuse to tell you why. And you wonder: if it was so obviously bad, then why not tell what happened so we know how to act and feel? Because your contestant is getting dragged through the mud by everyone who assumes he assaulted a woman, and you don't know whether to agree or support them. It was such an unnecessary cruel and dumb way to handle the situation, and creating all this space for assuming the worst without any clarification could have resulted in the kind of misguided outrage that gets people hurt or worse.
When an artist sings about his parents who passed away and gets emotional, he is a human. When my father passed away and I held a piano recital, I made my teacher cry. That is what music is about. EBU is basically condemning a human to act like a human, while allowing others humans to kill other humans. I am sorry. Eurovision is hunger game. Except it is way darker than you think.
Ah let's face it the Netherlands entry also was unprofessional from the start with diva requests. No one comes out looking good from the Joost-gate, everyone behaved badly.
I was so disappointed with the points Norway got. Their song was so freaking good. They took a risk with the kind of song they sent and it should have paid off. Norway robbed (12 points from 🇦🇺)
@@josephnewsome2935 I believe they focused public vote on the selection of songs they thought would beat out Israel after the public voting was leaked and Israel supporters made it known they'd be mass voting (on multiple platforms/devices sorta thing). That meant so many amazing performances like Norway's got pushed to the side :( Nemo's performance definitely felt like it was made to almost feed the jury with elements they like but they absolutely earned their trophy. I just wish Norway could have placed higher because it's a genre I like. (Also salty Australia didn't go through to the grand final but that's an entirely separate subject.. I'll cope with it)
@@josephnewsome2935 if they put as much energy into the MV as they did on stage, and maybe showed off more cultural locations instead of just sitting in front of the camera the whole time maybe we would have gotten more hype 😞 It was a good entry but compared to our competition, yeah we were unlikely to top last year with Voyager, let alone place. It just sucks because it was a big display of Aboriginal pride and they could have done so much with that. It's a really good song :(
The main reason I think that Israel was allowed to compete while Russia was banned was because in 2022, several countries threatened to drop out of the contest in February if Russia competed, while this year no countries threatened to drop out until the contest was already in progress and they really couldn't
Yes. If the broadcasters felt that strongly, they should have all said something at the beginning. They have the power and the money. They shouldn't leave it up to the artists to all protest individually.
Exactly. EBU even issued a statement about Russia staying in the contest because "it is not political" and we should all stay "united by music" yada yada yada. A huge outcry started but EBU ignored it. Only after ten delegations threatened to withdraw if Russia stay, EBU change their mind and decided to ban Russia. Russia then left EBU "in protest", effectively making themselves ineligible to compete in the future (you must be a member to compete, or have a special agreement like Australia).
Countries didn't threaten to walk out. It was some of the artists who protested Israel participation but the broadcasters never endorsed the artists protest officially .
Problem is also, if a country threatens to drop out unless Israel goes, Israel is going to switch into 'Help, Help, Antisemitism! Shoa! Shoa!' mode and play the eternal victim with this deadbeat argument.
Ik it’s kinda late, but on the Israel note, Portugal was harassed by Israelite people due to the performance representing Palestine. Kinda sad nobody talks about it.
3:39 The only reason Russia was excluded was because multiple broadcasters threatened to withdraw. They were originally going to do nothing. No one did the same with Israel this year. It’s not hypocrisy. It’s lack of broadcaster pressure. The broadcaster ultimately hold the power.
Excluding Israel would have played into the hands of the Israeli government who wanted to withdraw from ESC for some time already. Excluding KAN and the Israeli Eurovision Fans would have been punishing the good guys in the game....
@@republikadugave420 which is actually not true. But of course the ESC is broadcast by KAN the public station, because it is a Contest provided by public broadcasters. Nevertheless the government wanted to close down KAN and withdraw from the ESC so boycotting Israel at the ESC is actually kind of working for the Israeli Government...
Not entirely true, Russia was banned from several global events including several major sporting events before the EBU banned them. it was easy for the EBU to jump on the bandwagon and join other organisations in banning Russia. In contrast Isreal to date still hasn't been banned or restricted from any other major event including the olympics which is only months away, had large groups like the IOC or FIFA taken action I bet you the EBU would have too but no way were they going to be the first and due to that we got the shit show that was this year.
@ztoical funny, isn't it? I think excluding countries from entering major events does nothing other than playing onto the hands of propaganda OK, Russia is excluded from pretty much everywhere at this point and you know what? The government is LOVING it It's easy to push the rhetoric of "everyone hates us, the world is the enemy" when you can't partake in anything global (other than go and die in war, I suppose) I hope you catch my drift It's easy to spin a narrative you want when there's basically nothing to oppose it It's great that everyone managed to unite this once, but I don't think that it's a good decision for anyone in the long run
I think something important to bring up about the Joost Klein incident is that there was no police report for a good amount of time because multiple press teams had contacted Swedish police to the point where they were contacted so much Swedish police reached out to the EBU and then the official complaint was put in. That means his suspension wasn't based on there being an active police case, hence why we were stuck in limbo for ages. Personally, it seems like it reached the point the EBU felt they had to go the legal route simply to get people off their backs for the dodgy suspension.
@user-wf7yg7uy2e i say israel shouldve been smart and not competed this year. And yes i personaly think if your country is invading a region you shouldnt be allowed to compete but i prefer the countries in question voluntary decide to not compete , in this case that wouldve saved alot of controverses. Lol just look at israels song entries, they where litterly submitting propaganda songs , now they went the petty route and got the netherlands banned.
I mean, Petra’s song “We just love Eurovision too much” included the sarcastic line “and non-political, of course!” So of course, the EBU is aware, and by allowing that song as an interval act, they demonstrated they didn’t feel compelled to hide it.
Thank you for your integrity in discussing Joost Klein. I would like to add that Joost has Autism Spectrum Disorder and he has PTSD. Yes, pushing a camera away is not okay, but I believe harassing somebody (after he asked several times to stop) with a disability is a bigger offense!
Hey ! I've read the discourse about Joost Klein being autistic many times ! Can you tell me where did you find your source ? I can't seem to be able to verify this 😉
I think what most people forgot about was the ''emergency meeting'' before the final with the ebu and some contestants when they threatened to drop out. Afterwards when one of the artists Olly Alexander was asked about joost his first response was ''we dont-'' before correcting himself to saying he loved other artists while looking at someone else. Some speculated he wanted to say he doesn't like Joost, but personally i think he was gonna say something about not being able to talk about it. Something which most likely was discussed at the emergency meeting
For the Italian televote, it was spicious also for me. I live in italy and most of the people i know didn't even know that there was the Eurovision lol and who watched it didn't vote. Another strange thing is that, in italy, there was a huge amount of advertising that said to vote for Israel. There wasn't an advertising that said to vote an another country, only Israel and it was on RUclips and also on television.
You forgot to mention that Joost is neurodivergent, so being on stage just can be a lot of stress,so his reaction is more understandable. It was said to not film him. There was a clip you showed, where he was with headphones on his ears likely to reduce Stress caused by the overload. So being on such a big stage, you need to be left alone in order to destress and calm down. I can relate, because I am autustic myself.
I can relate to wanting to be on my own and wearing headphones too. If I was in his shoes and I was filmed without consent, I would've reacted in a similar way.
If there is something we Europeans have and had in common throughout history is that we had so much revolutions, protests, uprisings, strikes, building alliances and somehow we learned from them. We are political because fighting and discussing is the base of democracy. To keep out politics from events, from public spaces, from offices and families and to make talk about politics something impolite - that's the greatest threat to democracy.
Sure so why are you supporting a country that hates democracy and hate your values? Even when Palestine was free they would still k@#LL Lgbtq+ people I wish muslims will put shariah laws on your country when they become the majority ❤ then lets see if you support palestine
One thing that really irked me during this year's show was the excess of the stage. Sure, an event like this needs sponsors so that people actually get paid their due, but what it *doesn't* need is: - A stage that doubles as a high-quality screen, mostly for the sake of the cameras (even if some entries used it well) - An enormous screen that dramatically opens up in a Star Wars hangar-esque fashion to reveal the artists' greenroom behind it - Twice the wardrobe per amount of shows for the hosts To name some examples. I would rather have a small show heavily stripped of special effects, than a giant show with dubious sponsors pulling the strings. Calling this "The Hunger Games of Politics" really hit the nail on the head; this year's show gave me major Capitol vibes
I agree a simpler show based on the music rather than the performance might be a lot more satisfying and level the playing field between countries and the resources they have available.
Last year's controversy was basically "cute" in comparison to what happened this year. Honestly, this used to be so much fun, now it's quite literally contributing to my depression. I'm going back to enjoying Sanremo and literally nothing else related to it.
Yeah it's funny how I as a Swede felt a bit "attacked" last year by Käärijä-supporters (I myself voted for him and wanted him to win though). If I only knew what this year would bring haha
Hey, brazilian here, and i need to share something weird. I wasn't big on eurovision until like february of this year, i knew about the contest, but since it's fairly unknown and doesn't even air here, i never really gave it a look despite sounding interesting, until your video from last year suddenly got recommended to me and i decided to look more out of curiosity than anything else, i didn't even knew who Loreen was back then. Three months have passed and the video spiraled me into a streisand-effect-esque eurovision obsession, i watched several editions, became a gigantic fan of Marija Serifovic, Konstrakta and Senhit (Adrenalina is fire and i won't shut up about it), and i was mega excited and also mega worried for my first ever experienced watching eurovision live, and as soon as it was over, i knew your follow up would've been wild. And it was, i really like the way you presented your thoughts in a cohesive and engaging way and made me notice things that i had never even realized (recorded backing vocals were introduced after the pandemic?? makes sense, but i thought it was an older thing). I feel like you should make more eurovision videos if you feel like it, you really got the hang of this! And by the way, as much as the idea of transforming the jury score into a boost is cool, i personally got way more interested into another idea you proposed on the last video: Increasing the public strength by giving points to the top 15 countries instead of top 10 (as well as diversifying the jury, of course), while keeping the jury at the top 10, that way, we won't have to sacrifice the classic douze points for the jury while increasing the public's power, and a personal proposal: Instead of having a rest of the world vote, having five votes for that purpose: Non-participating european nations, north america, south america, asia+oceania and africa.i know that this would be really complicated in logistics but it would certainly help as well. What do you think? Either way, thanks again for the great video, maybe Martin Österdahl can learn a thing or two from this hahahahaha
15:12 =Frankly... EBU did not follow contract they stipulated with the artist. Even if Joost Klein played by the EBU's hand (It was released that Joost showed the camerawoman his fist and broke her camera which I think its still safe as she wasn't actually hit) and got him kicked out, my biggest question is... Why, despite the contract stating that there should have been no cameras when he gets off the stage, there is a camera woman using a camera on him the minuete he exits in the first place? Its like they wanted a disaster to happen.
Did they finally confirm Netherlands contractually opted out from the social media filming sequence and it was not just a verbal agreement? Anyway so far the impression has been that the team who was responsible with filming these short sequences wasn’t aware of the agreeement. Which makes sense, these people were doing their job. If an artist opts out then it means you get a 5min break.
@@PixelTheMushroom So it was confirmed that it really was written in the contract? Sorry I’m insisting on that, it was unclear if it was a contractual obligation from the start or an agreement made prior to the event in which case it could lead to miscommunication.
By whom? It's not like the jury ignored the song and the people at home loved it. I found the song boring and the performance of Gåte sub par. I'd prefer to see Armenia getting more points... but that's what competitions are about
The irony of the EBU trying to paint him as an evil sexist who threatens women yet in turn making him into a matyr for those who are sick of the obvious favouritsim and corruption in the EBU to rally behind
He’s also an International artist now!! His tickets for NYC and LA were quickly sold out upon going live on the ticketing websites, the fact that he was disqualified yet had the biggest career success this year says a lot!
Great video, as an immense Eurovision fan from the Netherlands, this edition was truly awful. Normally me and my family watch it all, but this year, we just went to sleep after seeing the commentators and people at avrotros cry right before the show, and Nikki de Jager announcing she wouldn't announce our points. The entire day had been hell, and the disgust and anger i feel towards the EBU is immense. From them doing nothing about the continuous, immense and very obvious harassment from the Israeli delegation and media towards several of the artists, like the commentators calling on people to abuse Bambie Thug, to not vote for Switzerland, Ireland, Norway, etc, and the use of social media advertisements calling on people to vote for Israel, despite this being not allowed, or the media abuse, like when Israeli media barged into Marina from Greece's dressing room without permission. And then to see EBU disqualify us over nothing, whilst Israel suffers no consequences, it was infuriating. And the cencorship was disgusting, Eric Saade for wearing his dad's scarf, and Iolanda for having watermelon coloured nails, and them playing her SF performance during the grand final instead for this. But what disgusted me most, was the treatment of the artists, the harassment and bullying towards Bambie in particular, only for them to break down on camera, and be bullied even more for it by people saying they cried because they "lost to israel", and on the flipside, Ollie recieving so much hate for competing and not boycotting the event, and the hate towards Nemo for winning, despite the fact they definitely deserved it just as much as baby lasagna. I wish I could say I'm glad this edition is over, but that would be a lie, this is not the end, and I fear for the future, especially after it was announced that Moroccanoil would be kept as a sponsor, which I believe caused most of this years problems and Israel's horrible participation, because sadly the EBU only seems to care for money. Finally, I despise the sentiment that Eden Golan is just an innocent little girl, she actively chose to represent Israel, she and her delegation broke many rules and harassed, threatened and bullied several artists, she tried to bring politics into her song, outfit and performance several times, and has actively stated her desire to join the IDF due to her strong anti Palestinian sentiment, to only name a few things, screw Israel, and screw the EBU.
And considering several countries, like the UK, Portugal, Norway, Switzerland and Ireland wanted to withdraw even right before the grand final started, I would not be surprised to see several countries not take part next year, especially my own, alienating the Netherlands, who have competed since the start and contribute a lot of money to the EBU, isn't going to work in their favour. And I secretly kind of hope we, along with others, won't compete, just to serve as a wake-up call for the EBU that they need to do better.
And one final note, the EBU originally didn't want to remove Russia from the competition after they invaded Ukraine, only after several countries threatened they wouldn't compete alongside Russia, did EBU remove them.
@@lilirmscastelino208 they released a statement saying they'd continue to be a partner next year, although it's unsure if they'll be the main sponsor again.
Imo the Finnish national contest has the best system. There is a jury vote, however it's only a deciding factor when it comes to a tiebreaker situation. Jury has much less votes to give overall. This year Windows95man came LAST on the jury vote, still won the contest. And despite they didn't win the ESC, they did a fine and remarkable performance. And this is how finnish entries are mostly loved by the fans.
I'm from Argentina, so I have not a single horse or pony on this race...but I have been following Eurovision for YEARS (used to watch it or the recaps with my mom, who left us in 2018) so for me Eurovision is really emotionally charged to me in a way. Makes me miss mom a little bit less, you would say. This year it was painful, absolutely painful. I tried so hard to focus on the music, but soon realized it was what the EBU wanted and I became absolutely angry. This was about the music, about having fun between all countries...how could people not be angry at Israel joining while Gaza is going on?! How could the organization expect people to not be upset? The fact that Joost got taken down over someone ignoring his pleas of being left alone doesn't help, and he wasn't the only one being harassed or treated awfully by the Israeli press. I loved the music, sure...but all the mess that happened in between the music made this year's Eurovision absolutely bitter and sour for me and others. I'm still sad about it, even if people mock me a bit. This was supposed to be a contest to party, sing, and have a good time all together, European or not. Thank you so much for this video! edit: my favorite this year was Australia, tbh. I loved the idea of finally bringing the didgeridoo and an Aboriginal singer (Electric Field's singer, Zaachariaha Fielding, is Aboriginal) to the Eurovision! I loved hearing the didgeridoo. Then my vote went for Estonia, and then Croatia when they took Netherlands out >:C
Regarding the Joost Klein incident, it’s actually still unclear what exactly happened. It has been a long discussion on r/eurovision, people have been comparing statements from different sources from different countries. Here’s the hypothesis that was pieced together: 1/ It doesn’t seem like “the agreement” was communicated to the staff and the camera woman was just doing her job which was to get footage of all the contestants after their performance for social media. It’s also unclear who exactly her employer is (by that I mean there were a lot of different companies and contractors involved). 2/ According to Swedish people, calling the cops is a normal procedure when there’s a conflict (kinda like a mediator). Regarding the “lawsuit” it might be because of unions and/or insurance corporate policies (eg. Union needs a paper to protect the employee from the employer; If the camera was broken, it’s common practice for insurances to ask for a copy of a legal complaint to cover costs etc) 3/ to my knowledge the camera woman has never made a statement, all statements were managed by the EBU. What this means is that her version of the story has never been shared. 4/ the incident was not managed until it was too late. The fact the press and fans were left to their own devices to “guess” whatever happened is quite telling. By not making a statement they allowed gossips and wild sexual assault claims to fester. There was also the fact a few days prior some people from the Israeli delegation were making fun of Joost (and others) and filmed him against his consent, so the rumour quickly morphed into “the Israeli delegation has been harassing Joost and he defended himself”. Let’s keep in mind the absolute priority was the safety of the event and police officers were preparing against riots and terrorist attacks. When I heard the news on the French radio, they said Joost had been disqualified because he *assaulted* a crew member. With such a rumour going on, they couldn’t really let him participate like normal without doing anything (note that the “anything” could have been deescalating the incident but that’s not the solution they chose) In hindsight the situation spiralled out of control and it ended with an overreaction, but it does make sense, it just looks like terrible crisis management.
I still can understand why they play victim even now with all the clips from KAN broadcasting mocking and insulting several contestants who are not "friends of Israel". They had an obvious special treatment and felt powerful doing all this without consequences. And it's so sad from a contest I just to love.
Did you learned hebrew? If not, how do you know what they did or did not said? Also, did you checked all the other countries and what they said about this or that participant?
Your video was really emotional. Here is my emotional comment as a Eurovision fan and as a Ukrainian who stays in Kyiv. My nation, our culture is at the risk of being erased by Russia and forgotten by everyone. Only 2 years ago you supported my country but now you want to hear nothing about it. Eurovision for me personally is the small window to the peaceful past I used to have. I retrieve the emotions I used to get before the genocidal war. After the first semifinal this year, Russia launched massive missile attack on my country and on my city. I was sitting in the shelter half of the night, praying our army will destroy the rockets so that no one dies. I heard explosions, the building was shaking because of it. And in 4 hours I was at work listening how my European coworkers were complaining because they had team building, stayed up late and didn’t sleep well. At such moments I feel like the whole Europe doesn’t give a shit. But watching eurovision, seeing my country’s performers on that stage gives me a sense of unity. It gives me hope that we are recognized. We don’t want your pity votes. We are trying really hard each year not for the rank on the board but to be heard, to be seen, to be a part of Europe. Also national final is a huge deal in Ukraine. It give opportunity for young artists to find their listeners. It’s a great boost for Ukrainian music industry. And you suggest to “disqualify” my country. For what? For being little bit uncomfortable because we’re being killed every f**king day. Sorry for being emotional and so rude but I’m too f***ing tired with this kind of bulshit from our western “friends” who would gladly sacrifice my country to have their lives back “to normal”.
I agree with you 100%. This was a very bad argument in the video. I love Ukraine's entries and I would stop watching the contest if they excluded Ukraine for being attacked. Slava Ukraini
you put this so well, and i am happy that you could feel a sense of nostalgic peace and unity watching your entry and hearing your beautiful language broadcast to all the world. and i am so disappointed that people are so easy to forget the pain you and your loved ones have to endure every day. my heart is equal parts broken and full of rage every day. i'm sending you so much love and a dream of better times.
I don’t believe that she says to disqualify you specifically but that her logic is that disqualification should be all or nothing to avoid conflict within the contest
@@jacob4448 honestly I don't care at this point what her logic is. She felt entitled enough to suggest my culture be stopped represented, in the time of genocidal w@r. For example today Kyiv was again massively attacked by ruzzians...in the middle of the night. She has no empathy, she did not apologize, and she did not say that she still supports Ukraine. I scanned through all her replies. This indifference makes me angry. And I believe rightfully so
If we banned every country who participates in an active policital conflict for this year we wouldn't had Azerbaijan and Armenia too. And as Germany and All other countries do participate in one way or another in both the Ukraine/Russian and the Israeli/Palestinian conflicts, there would be NO PARTICIPANT. It's pretty short-sighted to think we can just ban every country that participates in a war from the ESC. The same short sightness the EBU has with the no Politics. 😅
i think she means being directly involved in the war/conflict as the perpetrator or victim. also, aren't azerbaijan and armenia in asia? i don't get why they'd be here... additionally, when azerbaijan hosted the esc in 2012, i'm pretty sure they had to demolish homes (that still had people inside, might i add) simply because they wanted to construct the venue for the contest. i think they've been getting accused of human rights violations too... (i know nothing about armenia though, so don't ask me lmao) sorry if i seemed rude with this reply in any way!!!
@@sussyhildaculturally Armenia and Azerbaijan are post Soviet countries with lots of Slavic cultural influences, so even though they might be near Asian territories geographically culturally they are big percentage Eastern European and them not participating is not acknowledging that fact. Ebu is either political or not, if you ban Russia than automatically Israel should be banned, when Israel is doing wayyyy worse than Russia matter in fact
@@RaiiSkaii lmao there's no Slavic cultural influence on the Caucasus. If anything, the Slavs' (Russians) inhabiting the northern Caucasus culture is uniquely Caucasian and not "slavic". And sorry to the pan-Slavists here, but there's no single Slavic culture or any strong bond between the slavic nations' cultures other than some common folklore. Compare Balkan Slavs like Bulgarians and Slav Macedonians to Greeks and then compare them to Poles. Who are they more similar to?
@@sussyhilda the entire EU is actively involved with the Ukraine war, what are they doing here ? Israel is also in Asia, so any country can join this event
I think my favorite year was 2021 (bit biased because it was in my country). My favorite band still is Måneskin from Italy. Iceland was great, Ukraine was amazing, I still listen to music from Blind channel from Finland, France and Switzerland were good, Norway.
What bothers me (even though I like Nemo's song) how is it possible that 90% of the juries thought that' s the best song of all? Like, really?? You all think there is no better song? I don't know...like last year...like did they really all thought Sweden has the best song?
I think it's more understandable this year than last, because while Tattoo felt like just another well performed pop song, The Code showcased (and Nemo mastered) several different singing styles and genres, making it a much more artistic and impressive entry than Tattoo was. Given the criteria, I think it's very understandable why the jury ranked Switzerland so high, and the jury winner taking the crown is not a bad thing per say - but I don't think it should be possible for them to tank one entry the way they have these past two years. I objectively think the best song won, but I also objectively think the competition should be more open.
@@eleanornightwalker When the juries around the countries voted , any jury person that voted for israel was threatened by by the higher ups of the country people already said that If the war didn’t happen more juries would vote israel and give less points to nemo leading croatia for the victory And its not about just the song they gave him extra points because he is non binary Thats the message they wanna show children🤢
@@eleanornightwalkerI disagree as I see that many talented songs were ignored such as Norway, Georgia, Serbia and Slovenia. This year should have been suuuuuper close as it had so many good entries, but many were left for dust as Switzerland soared ahead. I believe that an apolitical year would have given us a much closer year and I personally believe that Italy could have won
@@jacob4448I agree with you, yes he was artistic but I think they ranked him high because he's an LGBTQ artist, they want this LGBTQ friendly image of themselves. He was not the only "artistic" as well, you have Armenia, Greece, Norway who showcased their culture and it was fun to watch. Even Ireland was artistic, yet people did her dirty by calling her satanic when seh also showcased her culture I loved Italy too, it was a nice discovery.
Regardless of the situation in Palestine being "more complicated and long term" I think the recent ruling of the International Court of Justice makes it quite clear that killing civilians is a war crime under every circumstance. Even when being justified by "the right to self defence". That makes it even more infuriating knowing the Russians were banned for the exact same thing. I guess EBU is above international law. And unfortunately I will disagree - this is the Hunger Games, we are living through it right now, but we are the Capitol.
I tried leaving my own stance on the conflict out of the video to better judge things from the chain of events that happened in esc - but since this is the comment section, I will say that Israel has NOTHING to do in eurovision as long as they're committing war crimes. This is after all a contest based on peace after WW2. Not to mention the double standard with russia and a clear favourism of Israel in the contest
@@Michael-wq7qx When people who have never watched eurovision use all their votes for Israel and there was a boycott this year which meant regular watchers did not votes, there is a very clear skew to regular public votes. You can pretend that Israel has huge public support all you like but we all know its not true and very clearly not reflective in the results this year. Also hard to call it a war when one side doesn't have a standing army and regularly get random civilian and children thrown in another country's jail for years without charge.
@@Michael-wq7qx But there is no war between Israel and Palestine? There is occupation, colonialism, and genocide, and there is apartheid lasting for decades. 'There are no wars without war crimes' really sounds like justifying brutally and indiscriminately killing tens of thousands of children and women, not to mention displacing them and making them leave their homes to go to 'safe zones' only to bomb them there. I could go on for much longer, but I think you get my point.
I'm a Spanish viewer and our singers, Nebullosa, have talked about their experience during the contest to the point that they highlighted the presence of g*ns in Israel team, the insecurity and of course the behaviour of its team that was disrespectful towards other singers like the singer from Ireland. The situation was so disrespectful that in Spain there was a big movement against the contest and even the hosts that were translating everything were pointing things like "and now the Israel participant, surrounded by whistles" Having such disrespectful behaviour was horrendous and during those days our government was recognising Palestine as a country while having threats from Israel, it is not a plain war, it involves more than two countries and baning the freedom of speech just makes it worse. The double standards are terrible, Russian conflict is also complex and has an historical background really complicated too, but they were banned because it is easier to point who is the bad guy in that case. ***Edit: Spanish televote was also showed at the end of the contest and "we" voted 12 points to Israel. The reality behind those votes are more than questioned having that the big majority of Spain are against Israel and more since the threads against our president
@@galikafry8494 well, I think that since Spanish civil war we learnt to not like wars... however tahnk you for reminding something that happened in the 16th century. @@charlyromero7388 so a country who didn't start a single war in history and doesn't want war should be banned for being at a war it didn't start? Which didn't heppen as you gave recognition to a country after it started a war by doing the biggest m*ssacre since the Holocaust.
Some proposals for Eurovision, adapted from when I typed it somewhere else a while ago: Social media and other delegation generated content: Delegation members are not allowed to publish content with other delegations without consent. Their content on social media cannot be negative about a member of another delegation’s person, identity, politics, appearance, outside of genuine critique of an entry’s song and staging. Larger social media free zone backstage, in hallways, parts of the pressroom, parts of common areas, etc. and take input from delegations about this. The only filming and photographing that can happen in common areas is with consent of the subject, and only by the ones given consent too. Contest rules: More control of what is released from rehearsals for delegations, in terms of what and the amount. Delegations get to hold back surprises for the broadcast (and jury) shows (but I think not in between SF and GF), if it doesn’t impact the lighting and camera work. They do have to perform it in front of head of contest, and relevant technical personnel for approval. The Jury and rehearsal shows with audience or press have a strict no phone - no recording and no publishing policy, so that acts that wish so can keep surprises. Revert the rule that backing vocals can be pre taped. A limited amount of vocal samples can be used, but they have to be used creatively, not to make it easier for the lead vocalist. (examples to be allowed: Dadi Freyr’s 1000 voices, Joost Kleins instrumentalised voice). Backing vocalists need to be on stage - visible, lit and in shot - credited in text at the stage ready screen. That way they get credit and we can accurately judge how much help the lead performer gets. Number of people on stage can be increased to accommodate this, so we can still do the one lead singer 5 dancers entries. The EBU publishes raw microphone inputs as an additional audio track on the RUclips livestreams and performance uploads, again to best judge vocal performance for the viewers that wish to do so. Running order gets a random draw. The producer gets to swap up to five adjacent songs freely for entertainment reasons, more if needed for technical reasons, after consulting with delegations and head of contest. Voting: Broadcasters and their nation states are not allowed to recruit votes in other countries. ROTW voting should start at the same time as competing countries voting. ROTW should have a spokesperson. Voting starts after the last song has been performed. Juries in the semifinals. Add an audience vote, so staging that involves the crowd, are easy to watch for the crowd and are crowd favourites are encouraged, and to deter booing if there’s major discrepancies with the jury or end results; at least the audience gets a voice. It also tips the balance jury vs. public slightly to the public. Audience members cannot vote for their country of residence or the host country. Pool the results form rehearsals with audience, jury show, family show, so you can mitigate the danger of vote recruitment if one show is terribly out of sync with the others. The voting codes remain secret until the start of the broadcast, to prevent extreme vote recruitment; goal is to have every voter having to have watched the show. I'd imagine the voting codes will be leading or trailing characters tacked on the to running order number, or something similar. Miscellaneous: Make the new head of EBU have a non-lame catchphrase, or no catchphrase at all.
This is such a good video. I've had the same thoughts and feelings about this. I hope the EBU is watching it. One of the sad things is that Joost hyped up his participation and song so well on social media, that he appealed to a whole new audience. Here in The Netherlands a lot of people (and a massive amount of kids) who've never watched Eurovision before, we're going to watch this year. And as I understand, in other countries as well, 'cause Europapa was a hit. He could have been a gift to Eurovision, but the EBU shot themselves in the foot. Multiple times. And the lack of transparency, responsibility and accountability creeps me out, to be honest. If Joost did something wrong, of course he should be held accountable. I think he himself would not disagree with that. But the EBU needs a massive clean-up.
I disagree with banning Ukraine. Ukraine has been doing well in the contest for a while. I don't like Stefania, but I hate everyone saying they ONLY won because of politics. Ukraine did objectively nothing wrong, they were just invaded by Russia. I also disagree with the jury point cap. Then some juries just have their points going to waste.
My friend who was there said they dipped the audience mics and increased them on the other acts too so that the favourites sounded like the crowds were louder. He said the crowds were singing along to all the songs like Dons whose audience mics were incredibly low during the broadcast despite the crowd singing along with him.
To all Joost and Käärijä fans, please check their song Traffic, these two are friends. True winners from last year and this year. ruclips.net/video/uOGZy6thNvo/видео.html
Thanks for watching the video! After reading a lot of comments, I realize that I have to make a correction, as it didn't really come across the way I intended: I made it sound as though I'm actively requesting for Ukraine to be banned from the contest. That is not the case and I apologize for my poor wording. What I was trying to say, was that - realistically speaking - if there's gonna be a rule against active wars, it would also affect Ukraine, who are also in an active war. While we all agree that Ukraine are the victims in the war against Russia, the EBU should not be picking sides in wars - just look what happened this year, when they seemed to pick the "wrong" side. And even if they DO pick a side that we agree on, we will have scenarios such as in 2022, where all the competition goes out the window because of mass sympathy. To be clear, I don't think Ukraine gets a lot of sympathy votes anymore, but this is all generally speaking - a rule needs to apply to everyone or no one. Like I said, I supported Ukraine in ESC in 2022, and I think they have amazing entries to Eurovision. It would be sad to see them go, but I think this is a conversation that needs to be had if we want to have rules that prevent wars massively affecting the contest. I appreciate you commenting on these things so that I'm aware and can rephrase myself when needed and have a statement that I can stand by.
Thanks for making the video! I enjoyed the overview, really disappointed in the event this year, and this is like therapy. "Het is een wereld zonder grenzen"
Wars and political turmoil in individual participating countries has been happening since the contest began and that will probably never change sadly. It all depends on how each broadcaster and delegation wants to go about it and should be handled on an individual basis. Ukraine follows the rules and don't create a hostile environment so there's absolutely no reason for the EBU to have them removed just because of the war.
I actually understood what you meant, so this comment surprised me. I think your opinion was clear. But maybe some people need this clarification. 🤔 This analysis was so good, thanks so much! ♥️
So this year, there would have been no Israel, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Armenia if this policy would have existed and been in effect. Is that what you mean? Edited to add: reading back, this can be taken as an offensive comment but please know that I just meant it as a question for clarification, nothing more.
I think that the crowd could have protested whit lot less hatred pointed at Eden. War is started by politicians, not by musicians. I would like to know how Israeli delegation harassed other artists? What were they doing? I think that Nemo deserved to win, more than Baby Lasagna. I suggest you listen to the Rammstein's songs- Du hast and Links,2,3,4 and then you listen to Pain's - Party in my head, and then Baby's song. I would like to know your opinion about that. I also would like to know opinion of all who watches your video and reads the comments. Gote were awesome. They were whole package. If they have won Eurosong, it would be deserved. It's a shame that they were last. They should have got at least 100 points more. But, first or last, good song will always be listened and people will accept it sooner or later. Position doesn't say anything about quality of the song and it has been proven year after year. So Norway, heads up and keep making good music.
Last year I felt betrayed by the Polish preselection, where the voting was rigged and the professional jury decided the winner. This year I felt betrayed by professional juries once again. Professional juries are merely a mechanism to course-correct in case the televoting results do not align with the preferences of the national broadcaster or the EBU. In the past the winning song was at least in the top three with the public... #mylasteurovision
Another thing that kinda bothered me is that most songs were all sung in english. If you are representing your country wouldn't it be better if they sung songs in thier own languages? As a german I was so dissapointed to here an english song and a very generic one at that. German is kinda mischaracterized as an extremly aggressive language and while it is half true german can also be beautiful and moving. I would love to hear different languages getting more actual representation in the future since many people (myself included) would probably love to hear what these singers have to offer when they properly represent thier home. But maybe thats just me idk...🤔
English unfortunately works better with the juries...plus most people wont know what the lyrics mean. That's why Norway did so badly. Joost Klein had German in his song though, Many people from other countries also want to communicate to each other in English as it's a global language.
Historically when you could only sing in your native languages the English speaking countries had a massive advantage. Look at UKs Irelands and Maltas results in the 90s and it starts to make sense why it was removed
im not even from europe but joost didn't deserve those allegations at all. imagine you lost your parents at a young age, you're left with all that trauma and guilt. talking about it, especially in front of thousands of people cannot be easy. he wanted to share the message his father had left for him and it was perfect for eurovision. he gave them a heads up and he told them to not record him in those later moments, yet his boundaries were broken. this was his dream since he was a child. he was so vulnerable with his emotions in those last couple of seconds in front of all of those people, that takes a lot. don't try to tell me if you were in his position that you wouldn't have pushed the camera away either, because its a lie. plus, the underlying message that the ebu was trying to give about an "incident between joost and a female" with no context making him sound like he's sexist and violent is just so horribly wrong. joost deserved so much better.
Love the video thus far. One point I feel like you missed as to why Israel was so strong on the televote: People voted for Israel even though they dont watch Eurovision. Sadly my parents and brothers are pro Israel. They didnt watch Eurovision at all, they didnt even listen to the song, yet they all voted for Israel. I watched every single video that came out that was about Eurovision, and I didnt vote because the Netherlands got DQ'ed. As a dutch person, my heart still breaks a little when I listen to europapa.
If it helps, he now has more fans than ever before, me included. And it's been a blast seeing him enjoy himself playing the song live after the ESC, he's really in his element. My heart breaks for him too, but I know #joostice will be served!
I’ve grown up in the Jewish community so I do believe that Israel has the right to exist although I do not condone the genocide happening again the Palestinians. Despite this it made me really angry that my community was spam voting for Israel even if they don’t watch the contest. Vote for who you like if you are voting for or against a country based on what’s happening not the song then there is no point of the contest
@@AN63753They didn't watch the contest! It's a song contest but a who can mobilise the biggest mob one. Say what you like about Stefania but at least the people who voted for it watched the bloody contest and it was third in the odds BEFORE Russia invaded Ukraine. If you voting in a SONG contest you should at least be listening to the bloody songs otherwise your vote is an effing travesty.
I think its funny how EBU says the contest is not political while it was literally MADE FOR POLITICS , idea of eurovision was to cool off tensions after WW2 and even the first winner was political ( most neutral of them all , Switzerland ) later on It completely let go of politics tho to the point where even an communistic country won while all the others participants were capitalistic , but you cant say its not political ever since current system was introduced with which came neighbor points came from which also mean that country with more neighbors has more chance to win. If they don't want it to be political either give televote 75 % influence with jury having 25% or replace Jury with some music professors and Songwriters that are from Canada or some most neutral political country ( Canada is most neutral I could think of ). Also politics of LGBTQ+ have dominated eurovision too much I'm not homophobic but its overused and gives a song more attention that it deserves to the point where my Croatian friend commented that they are only gonna win if they send a transgender black twink ( with a specific person in mind ) .
I highly disagree that Ukraine should be banned. I understand that the 2022 contest was less interesting because the winner country was obvious, and of course I also admit that the votes are biased towards them. But the thing is, I think it's wrong to penalize them in this case. It's not like they were the ones that started the war, Ukraine is the victim in this conflict. Banning them would pretty much be equivalent to considering that they are the ones at fault here (plot twist : they're not). Instead, I think that we should blame the actual perpetrators. Yes, Ukraine's entries these past few years were political, so blame Putin, not Ukraine. I think we should accept that the contest is political and tolerate it. On the same basis, this allows us to justify Russia's ban, and to justify a potential ban of Israel and Azerbaijan (which unfortunately will likely not happen). Let's try to make a morally acceptable contest, without using dumb "objective", "apolitical" criteria to justify it, like the political nature of songs. Russia was banned because the other countries collectively agreed that it should be, and it should be the case with Israel as well.
Agree! If we banned just any country with active military conflicts even if they aren’t the aggressor then a big chunk of other countries would also be missing, and then it wouldn’t be a point to have Eurovision since many European countries would be gone ……
Israel should not be banned, they were not the ones to attack first. Think about this: Ukraine gets attacked. Then they push back and invade Russia. Should they be disqualified? No. Because it's a defensive war and they were pitched onto the offensive.
@@Tenryu_ Israel is committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, and it is suspected that they are currently committing a genocide in Gaza according to the UN. The fact that they didn't attack first doesn't justify any of it, if Ukraine did the same as what Israel is currently doing then they should have been disqualified (but the thing is, they did not). Plus, it's not like everything started on October 7th, the Israeli government has been practicing apartheid for decades. Let's not forget that the Israeli government was the one who helped Hamas to gain power in Gaza in the first place, back in the mid-2000s. Many things they have done are illegal from an international law standpoint, and also deeply immoral for obvious reasons. The Israeli state is using the Eurovision as a propaganda tool, which I agree is the same as the other countries, except that Israel is trying to justify a genocide and to make it look like the European population widely supports it. I don't think that this is an acceptable behavior.
I don't understand why'd you restrict Ukraine of all countries from participating. While it obviously is at war, the context is vastly different from Israel or Russia and it most certainly isn't responsible for the conflict itself. It's a frankly baffling take overall I just can't get behind
Someone else made a comment about how there are various other european countries also at war, and that was a very good point thag I hadn't thought of. I think I've been blinded by the fact that the Israel-Palestine and Russia-Ukraine conflicts are the most visible ones My original point was that, if there's gonna be a rule for it, everything should go or nothing should go, which as a side effect would also affect Ukraine. The war in Ukraine has also affected the contest a lot in a political way, but it's much less visible now than in 2022
Honestly, I wouldn't find it too bad of an idea to implement a rule that you can't particpate if there is valid reason to believe a certain political situation may influence the vote for that country significantly. Let's be real about this, Ukraine didn't win in 2022 only because they had a good song. You're never going to get politics out of the contest entirely, but I think if the vote gets influenced to such a degree, it completely ruins the intergrety of the contest. This ruining of the intergrety was actually my biggest concern about Israel's participation this year as well.
Because, as she explained, it skewed the votes from other participants and turned the contest into pitty-voting. I'm not a fan of UK, but they were the actual winner that year because people voted for the song, the artist, and the performance - not because they felt sorry for the guy
@@almamater489 You can call pity voting on half of Eurovision contestants. Following your logic, any representative of the group that is oppressed or suffers in any way must be removed to avoid pity votes. Did Nemo win because of pity votes? Because they sang about identity struggle and wore a skirt? Did France receive pity votes for the sad personal story? There were just as many people who actually liked Ukraine's song in 2022 because it was more original; many people are tired of commercial trade mill songs - it's a taste thing. This is why there is voting and 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, etc.
One good ending is also the words Nemo said during the winner press conference about how they broke the code, they broke the trophy so maybe Eurovision needs fixing too. I have hope in the Switzerland team to try to fix this especially since the EBU headquarters are also there too. I'm crossing fingers for next year to be better obviously because as you said musically speaking this edition was among my favorite with no clear winner. However both Israel and the Joost's incident changed what could have been an interesting contest. We can't really imagine what the Netherlands being there would have meant but at least for Israel we can check how the points would have gone if we award the 11th country in each voting for instance. Either way as you said, I was so relieved by the end of it instead of being depressed. Last year I was among those who rooted for Kaarija and I still feel sad he lost but somehow this year it did not affect me as much because I was neither rooting for Baby Lasagna or Nemo (my favorite being Norway and Greece) but also both songs deserved it, both countries did not win in a while/or never in Croatia case, both artists were new artists we did not know for the general audience, both has a genuine experience bringing emotions and good that I felt either ways it was a good victory. What helped me after Kaarija's loss and I wish to say for Croatians and supporter of Baby Lasagna is that even if he did not win the contest, the pride he brought Croatia and how his concerts are now filled with so many people is his victory, one so much more meaningful than Eurovision and I wish for him all the happiness Kaarija brings to us since last year 💖💖
And regarding the future if the ESC, I'd ask this question - what is even the point of participating? What is the overall incentive for nations like Bulgaria or Czechia to take part when they rarely will have a fighting chance? Sure, for a nation like Spain or Germany as long as the ratings are decent enough, RTVE or ARD to keep chugging along even if they are just treading water. But for a nation like say Georgia is there a point sending entries on a yearly basis which would be shafted at the bottom every single time with diminishing returns or be Top 5 only when the planets are aligned. Or with the case of Bulgaria - what would be EBU's sales pitch to convince the national broadcaster (Bulgarian National Television) to take part despite interest being at the bare minimum? Bulgaria will never have the chance to win (that second place in 2017 was our peak that we won't match for a long time; I believe however that 2007 was our best year), because Bulgaria is not, was not and will never be a key player in the geopolitical landscape compared to say Ukraine, nor an influential one like Sweden or Finland. Bulgaria is like the NPC in Eurovision's game
I was not 100% against Israel's participation, but the EBU made a terrible mistake in accepting Hurricane as Israel's song. No matter what (nonsensical) changes to the lyrics they made, it is still a melodramatic song about the inciting incident in the war they are currently engaged in. The pro-Israeli folks know it. The anti-Israeli folks know it. As soon as the contest was over, Eden went back to singing it as "October Rain." The EBU should have made Israel sent a completely new song. And if they persisted in sending songs about their current conflict, they should have continued to be rejected.
Hurricane was a sensitive song about pain and grief. It was not talking about war or sides. Ukraine's staging explicitly showed falling missiles in the air and dead bodies lying on the ground in the last seconds (for me, that's fine, that's what Ukraine sadly is living now, but then you should also accept the non-explicit lyrics of Israel). Btw Ukraine's song 1944 of Jamala had the lyrics "they come into your house and kill you". That song was allowed and even won. That was not delicate. That was very explicit.
I don't really get why it should have been rejected. Yes it is based on a sensitive topic to say the least. But it is a power ballad about loss and grieve like many others before. Of course it is inspired by the masscare of October 7th, but this shouldn't be and exclusion criterium. Art alsways is a way of processing things/traumata. And the song is not political in a way that says " vote for this" or "one should expell people" or something like that. It was a very good song, performed extraordinarily well and the rest is a question of taste. For me a Top 5 song of this year's edition and a Top 3 performance. And if Eden goes back to Israel and performs it as "October Rain" is her business and not ours....
16:30 I work as the lead photographer in my schools robotics team and I ma technically allowed to record anyone during practices and competitions. But if someone ever tells me or any of my other photographers to not record them, we take that request very seriously. I find the photographer in this situation disgusting.
I was hoping you would comment on this year's event-come-shitshow and you didn't disappoint. Also I'm surprised you left out something else: Russian Television was expelled for breaking EBU rules by being Putin's obvious mouthpiece. KAN (Israeli broadcaster) is not affiliated with Netanyahu in any way and has even produced pieces criticising him, so you can't call them a puppet broadcaster. That said, while the EBU should have explained that better publically, you'd think that more involved would've had better situational awareness.
It is hilarious to think that people would claim Eurovision wasn't always Political..... The entire concept and existence and ideology behind eurovision is overtly political....
Remember, getting your country to pay a lot on adds and propaganda + having right wing ringleaders advocate for voting for you while not watching the show, helps get a lot of votes.
Having countries who aren’t the aggressor not participating because of “active military conflicts” would literally erase a big chunk of countries of participating as well then in Eurovision… what’s the point of having a “Eurovision” contest if half of the countries would be gone then… ex: Belarus, Azerbaija, Armenia, Georgia, Moldovan and many more….. I really disagree with that point
I've been a fan of Joost since 2018. The way this has been handled really brakes my heart, it feels like they needed distraction drama and wanted to film some reality tv like emotion. The camera has somhow been given personal rights, and an artist rights are virtualy dissolved. Ebu has a zero tolerance for violence and personaly intimidating people and dominating behavior. Sadly they have very different meanings for staff and artist.
Anti-booing is like the laugh track in comedies - it's fake, annoying and shows your own insecurity as a creator, because a genuinely good song/comedy would not need to usher the audience what to feel but evoke it from within. And for an artist which did not have a say in the matter, it just becomes part of the list of things the EBU whose audience hate they push onto the contestants. Oh and also the Eurovision nowadays is just a clown show, everyone pathetically attempting to imitate the uniqueness Verka Serduchka brought to it without committing fully to it due to not being their own
About the fake applause part - it’s a valid point to say we want to know the authentic feelings of the crowd in the arena. Except this time, people actually bought tickets just to come and boo her. This is not the Eurovision spirit and I believe it was a good decision since this is not what the people at home want to hear.
Exactly, people are saying it was taking away from the authenticity of the contest but most of the people booing were not booing her because of a bad song but because of politically motivated reasons
29:01 so depending on how you count "active" (I would count it as people still being affected by it) would also include Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Moldova. Do you wanna include those with troops in other countries on a side of a war or civil war...? There's also the issue of dancing while your neighbours are dying...seems kinda yikes. Makes all the songs feel empty and shallow by comparison. And like Ukraine's participation has a purpose, the last 2 entries raised money for charities and made sure people didn't forget that people are dying. Of course, an alternative is letting the non-competing countries in as interval acts. It's all-round morally fucked either way. You can't have a family reunion when a chunk is missing because of actually important reasons.
So many people bring up Russia to say Israel shouldn't have been allowed to participate. People act like the wars are the same. They are not. Russia invaded its neighbor unprovoked (despite what their officials say) to topple its government and claim land. Israel is engaged in a war against Hamas, who attacked Israel on Oct. 7th. This brutal attack can be seen online. It is not the same at all. Unfortunately, it is urban warfare, which is the worst milieu for battles. Also, Hamas hides itself under civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and aid organization buildings. It's completely different. Israel is not engaged in the same kind of conflict as Russia and Ukraine. The fact that so many people get so violent over Jews fighting those who seek to eliminate them in their homeland says a lot about the world, the protectors, etc. People have the right to protest and disagree with me and all of us supporting Israel. They don't have the right to get violent over it, and yes, I do expect better from my fellow human beings, no matter how unpredictable. We all know better when supporting a cause we find important and meaningful. Violence destroys your credibility and turns potential supporters away from you.

Just as parts of Ukraine, the Palestinian West Bank and Gaza strip is occupied or beseaged. Occupation in both cases mean: theft and demolition of land, housing, water and other resources, making the lives for Palestinians miserable for 75 years now. So, no: the war didn't start the 7th of october. And no: the provocations have come continuously for 75 years from the Israeli government and the US, not from the Palestinians, who are hardly able to do anything against this brutality. And thus yes: there is a clear resemblance between Russia's and Israel's warmongering.
@@andrekloer In what way was Gaza occupied? Israel left Gaza in 2005, dismantled all the settlements and forcefully displaced Jewish people who lived there in Gush Katif and other settlements (yes, Israel displaced Jewish people, not Palestinians). Gaza was completely self-regulated for 19 years. And it has a border with Egypt, so you can't say it was besieged by Israel. All these years Israel was shipping food, medications, water and fuel to Gaza. Hamas was using all these resources not to improve living conditions in the strip, but to build its terror infrastructure. So, it's fair to say that it's Hamas who made the lives of Palestinians so miserable. In the West Bank the Palestinians are also self-regulated, they have their own government.Israeli aithorities in no way govern the places where most of the Palestinians live (area A). I can't wrap my head around the fact why people continue to repeat this nonsense about occupation. There facts that show clearly that it's not an occupation.
I'm glad that this video took the correct stance that Eurovision is political,. However, given this stance, I strongly disagree with the argument that Ukraine should not be allowed to participate. Yes, the reason they won in 2022 was political. However, by accepting that Eurovision is a political event, you have to also accept that it will create political results. As you pointed out in this video, it always has, given that it's framed as a competition between countries, letting people's biases slip through in how they vote. The only difference between 2022 and most other years was one of degree, which means that if you create the precedent of banning countries based on the possibility of public sympathies distorting the competition, you have to draw a line somewhere as to how much politics is too much politics. In that case, we're back to another version of the current problem of having to pretend that certain results aren't political. Additionally, preventing Ukraine from participating would, in effect, be punishing them for the fact that they were invaded, which would be a terrible decision both from an ethical and optical standpoint. Instead, I think that the EBU needs to embrace the politics. This does mean accepting that sometimes outside factors, such as the invasion of Ukraine, will influence the competition. However, it also means that the EBU could make overtly political decisions about participation for the good of the competition, such as banning Israel from competing. Obviously, as you correctly point out, the situation in Israel/Gaza is more morally complex than Russia/Ukraine, but that does not justify Israel's actions in Gaza. Even besides that, they should also be disqualified for their delegation's behavior during the event (ruclips.net/video/1af8llc2OBI/видео.html by ESC Gabe for more details).
22:43 yes! They did the backing vocals at the American Song Contest too! It was so loud we could hardly hear some of the artists. They already took away live musical instruments, why would they take this away too?
About Joost: I’ve said this many times and I’ll say it again - IF there was a contract of him not being filmed after his performance (and to me it seems like there is) the woman was SEVERELY violating that contract. As a photographer, it’s very, VERY common for artists have rules on when, where and what kind of images are allowed of them. If I were to do what that woman did I would lose my job. But it seems like this woman had no consequenses, only Joost. And some have argued that maybe she didn’t know about a possible contract, and in that case that’s on EBU - it’s their responsibility to inform their employees on these things. Of course I wasn’t there and don’t know for 100% what the deal was, but to me personally, it seemed like there was an actual contract which this woman broke, and Joost got punished for it.
Literally said all of this millions of times to people in the EBU groups on Facebook and they will just call you antisemitic. But honestly Eden was being used as this weird scapegoat. Did she deserve to be booed? No. But they knew there was going to be problems.
Note that the anti-boo tech was not meant to drown people’s reaction to the music, but people’s reaction to the country who was performing, hopefully this won’t need to happen again
Enjoyed the video and haven’t had a chance yet to see if many have been uploaded critically addressing the issues brought up in this years contest. I definitely think there are a few points which could have been emphasised more, specifically the bullying and harassment by the Israeli delegation towards other contestants. It was touched upon but the fact that it wasn’t emphasised I think just doesn’t demonstrate how much they were also at fault for some of the drama. Also that Eden Golan did not help her own image, but instead made people less sympathetic towards her as an independent artist when she gave an interview saying she wanted to join the IDF. Generally though, I did actually enjoy what you presented and I think you have a point that quite a few things need to change with the EBU. I’ll be interested to see what happens.
5:14 this pissed me off cause they not only let a genocidial state participate but then had the gall to invite someone who THEY ABSOLUTELY KNOW is half palestinian and then act shocked and hurt when he wanted to protect the genocide in his ancestors' homeland.
I also want to note that whilst the conflict between Palestine and Israel has been going on for a long time if you look at what's happening right now and the map over the years it's very obvious Israel is the main aggressor. ISRAEL HAS KILLED OVER 15 000 CHILDREN.

Oh absolutely! The slimy disgusting yet so pathetic ways the EBU is trying to get people on their side....
The EBU, knowing about this much, disqualified The Netherlands stating: "We have a zero-tolerance policy towards inappropriate behaviour at our events and will always take necessary action to address threats to staff - no matter who they come from."
Joost's behaviour wasn't "good", but, without making assumptions about the exact further contents of the altercation that remain unknown, certainly understandable in this context.

@user-wf7yg7uy2ehow you can say Ireland had the worst performance, when Britain was an absolute shambles on stage, is beyond reasoning

This is very interesting, I might have to read up on that
Lebanon was so funny!
EBU wanted him out anyway they even asked Bulgaria to vote against him, while Bulgaria didnt even participated
Didn't he slap her? That what I heard
Here's a positive: somehow, this year was the best in decades in terms of musical quality.

Eurovision has truly become a capitalist dystopian nightmare. Big sponsors get special treatment while poorer countries keep withdrawing due to financial issues. Might as well promote Israel to Big 5 status considering how much money "Moroccan"oil contributes.
That spot is already reserved for Ukraine since Ukraine always has a 100% Qualification rate.
Israel literally NQ’d in 2022, a year that had Morrocanoil as a sponsor.
@@butterenthusiastlol not even Moroccan Oil could save that disaster and embarrassing performance by Israeli 😅😂

Yeah, first men have more rights and then for a short time it was equal and now women have more than men.Just stupidity.
I would have ALSO pushed the camera away if someone was asking me about my dead parents after REPEATEDLY telling them to not record me (especially in an area you weren't even allowed to record in)
Why are you making up a story to be angry about?
I'm still having nightmares from the Irish submission. Omg!
I'm new to Eurovision have learnt the hard way not to care about the jury voting and winner. It just leads to heartbreak, rage and anger

3:39 The only reason Russia was excluded was because multiple broadcasters threatened to withdraw. They were originally going to do nothing. No one did the same with Israel this year. It’s not hypocrisy. It’s lack of broadcaster pressure. The broadcaster ultimately hold the power.

@ztoical funny, isn't it?
I think excluding countries from entering major events does nothing other than playing onto the hands of propaganda
OK, Russia is excluded from pretty much everywhere at this point and you know what? The government is LOVING it
It's easy to push the rhetoric of "everyone hates us, the world is the enemy" when you can't partake in anything global (other than go and die in war, I suppose)
I hope you catch my drift
It's easy to spin a narrative you want when there's basically nothing to oppose it
It's great that everyone managed to unite this once, but I don't think that it's a good decision for anyone in the long run

The moment a broadcast tells you it’s not about politics, it’s only about politics

One thing that really irked me during this year's show was the excess of the stage. Sure, an event like this needs sponsors so that people actually get paid their due, but what it *doesn't* need is:
- A stage that doubles as a high-quality screen, mostly for the sake of the cameras (even if some entries used it well)
- An enormous screen that dramatically opens up in a Star Wars hangar-esque fashion to reveal the artists' greenroom behind it
- Twice the wardrobe per amount of shows for the hosts
To name some examples.
I would rather have a small show heavily stripped of special effects, than a giant show with dubious sponsors pulling the strings. Calling this "The Hunger Games of Politics" really hit the nail on the head; this year's show gave me major Capitol vibes
Why do the hosts have to change dresses 10 times per show anyway? Does ANYONE at ALL care if they wear the same dress throughout the night? 🤔
I agree a simpler show based on the music rather than the performance might be a lot more satisfying and level the playing field between countries and the resources they have available.

Fuck they decided to keep Moroccanoil!?
I'm so tired of people saying Eden Golan is innocent.

Here’s the hypothesis that was pieced together:
1/ It doesn’t seem like “the agreement” was communicated to the staff and the camera woman was just doing her job which was to get footage of all the contestants after their performance for social media.
Union needs a paper to protect the employee from the employer; If the camera was broken, it’s common practice for insurances to ask for a copy of a legal complaint to cover costs etc)
3/ to my knowledge the camera woman has never made a statement, all statements were managed by the EBU.
With such a rumour going on, they couldn’t really let him participate like normal without doing anything (note that the “anything” could have been deescalating the incident but that’s not the solution they chose)
In hindsight the situation spiralled out of control and it ended with an overreaction, but it does make sense, it just looks like terrible crisis management.
I still can understand why they play victim even now with all the clips from KAN broadcasting mocking and insulting several contestants who are not "friends of Israel". They had an obvious special treatment and felt powerful doing all this without consequences. And it's so sad from a contest I just to love.

Nemo said in an interview that the esc needs some fixing. I think they is wright

And I believe rightfully so
Let's be real here. There is no way a contest concerning most of europe would not become political over time.

Very true, I've put like 10 songs on my "Best of ESC" playlist this year, and usually it's 4-5
True. I added eleven songs, a personal record
Yes! We had such an amazing year this year! That’s why I got so upset to see it ruined by politics.

I'm a Spanish viewer and our singers, Nebullosa, have talked about their experience during the contest to the point that they highlighted the presence of g*ns in Israel team, the insecurity and of course the behaviour of its team that was disrespectful towards other singers like the singer from Ireland.
The situation was so disrespectful that in Spain there was a big movement against the contest and even the hosts that were translating everything were pointing things like "and now the Israel participant, surrounded by whistles"
Having such disrespectful behaviour was horrendous and during those days our government was recognising Palestine as a country while having threats from Israel, it is not a plain war, it involves more than two countries and baning the freedom of speech just makes it worse.
The double standards are terrible, Russian conflict is also complex and has an historical background really complicated too, but they were banned because it is easier to point who is the bad guy in that case.

Some proposals for Eurovision, adapted from when I typed it somewhere else a while ago:
Social media and other delegation generated content: Delegation members are not allowed to publish content with other delegations without consent.
Let's be honest. Norway did in NO WAY deserve last place. And you know that's true when I'm saying this as a Swede
I guess the EBU just couldn't do without the lucrative deal they cut with their principal corporate sponsor, the Israeli company Moroccanoil.
Sorry I can't get over how Eurovision always tries to seem so unpolitical when it never was. Ever since inception.
Great video!
My friend who was there said they dipped the audience mics and increased them on the other acts too so that the favourites sounded like the crowds were louder. He said the crowds were singing along to all the songs like Dons whose audience mics were incredibly low during the broadcast despite the crowd singing along with him.
I cried only two times:
- When I found out the context of Joost's song
- When I found out that Joost was disqualified

my dad actually voted for israel because he liked the song best and hes not on twitter so he didnt care about the drama
Thanks for watching the video! After reading a lot of comments, I realize that I have to make a correction, as it didn't really come across the way I intended:
I made it sound as though I'm actively requesting for Ukraine to be banned from the contest.
This analysis was so good, thanks so much!
Yeah lol Joost had more German in his song than Germany did for like 12 years
But I agree 100%. I'm happy Joost had a dutch song like S10 last year. My favourite entries are almost always in non-English
English unfortunately works better with the juries...plus most people wont know what the lyrics mean. That's why Norway did so badly. Joost Klein had German in his song though, Many people from other countries also want to communicate to each other in English as it's a global language.
I mean, only one entry that didn’t qualify _wasn’t_ in English, so I think we’re starting to see this trend reverse
LOVE YOUR PARENTS AND BROTHERS !!! They know what injustice means... so they reacted accordingly
And the new voting system allowed more time for people to vote
The only good thing about it is that Ukraine did great despite performing second
I have to agree. The correct countries have been banned: Putinstan and Belarus. One weak argument I could find in the whole video.
>Ukraine is the victim
What?
I don't understand why'd you restrict Ukraine of all countries from participating. While it obviously is at war, the context is vastly different from Israel or Russia and it most certainly isn't responsible for the conflict itself. It's a frankly baffling take overall I just can't get behind
Someone else made a comment about how there are various other european countries also at war, and that was a very good point thag I hadn't thought of. I think I've been blinded by the fact that the Israel-Palestine and Russia-Ukraine conflicts are the most visible ones
My original point was that, if there's gonna be a rule for it, everything should go or nothing should go, which as a side effect would also affect Ukraine. The war in Ukraine has also affected the contest a lot in a political way, but it's much less visible now than in 2022
@@eleanornightwalkerIt’s just Ukraine doesn’t bomb other countries and territories at all
Honestly, I wouldn't find it too bad of an idea to implement a rule that you can't particpate if there is valid reason to believe a certain political situation may influence the vote for that country significantly.
The Joost Klein incident is basically just your little brother being annoying and when you say "stop" he'll start crying and calling your mom
Not really. Couldn't he just not control his emotions and assault a women?
@brianbowman6639 Correct summation.
@@Angeles726 1944 was a song about her grandmother's experience in the Crimean war.
Lol, Ukraine won with Jumala and Kalush song twice. Both of them about war
I think we know more about the israeli censorship, do we? The Mossad is not better than the FSB.
I really disagree with that point
unity is not pretending that disagreements don't exist
People who never watch Eurovision and didn't this year voted for her so that goes both ways.
Exactly, people are saying it was taking away from the authenticity of the contest but most of the people booing were not booing her because of a bad song but because of politically motivated reasons
I wanted to hear people boo her...
You're operating under the assumption that people believe Israelis have a right to be there. Germany and the US look like perfect locations for a Jewish homeland.
@@stiofain881940s jews tried having a home in Germany, didn't work out for them
You can also look up "antisemitism in the usa" and realize what a Jewish homeland in the us would entail
@@yalieyal4362 They're very sorry for it and dying to make it up to you. Also the US has a lot of room that isn't being used. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem.
Any country involved in a big conflict should not be allowed to participate as it can lead to biased voting....
I like the fact its the same sort of drama every year
Literally said all of this millions of times to people in the EBU groups on Facebook and they will just call you antisemitic.
We don't need a jury. We don't need a jury. We don't need a jury.

26:13 Me, a German, who celebrated finally not being last again 🥲
5:14 this pissed me off cause they not only let a genocidial state participate but then had the gall to invite someone who THEY ABSOLUTELY KNOW is half palestinian and then act shocked and hurt when he wanted to protect the genocide in his ancestors' homeland.
8:21 if you're wondering why they decided to participate it's pretty clear, garner more sympathy from people, play victim and whitewash their crimes.
I also want to note that whilst the conflict between Palestine and Israel has been going on for a long time if you look at what's happening right now and the map over the years it's very obvious Israel is the main aggressor. ISRAEL HAS KILLED OVER 15 000 CHILDREN.
speaking about ukraine and russia, their conflict didn't start in 2022 either...
someone told me I “looked like the big blue bird from Eurovision” because I had a blue jacket on
