The best ending would have been The Borg just start pouring through the portal saying"Resistance is Futile" as the ultimate joke and "f*ck you" to all the fans.
Yeah it feels like lots of shows are struggling to nail their endings lately. Apparently Mr Robot’s last season was its best one, I’m starting that now!
Such a disappointing ending, especially the fact that the writers did nothing to finalize John's arc. How did they mess up so badly in the last episode when the previous one was such a great success and one of the most pinnacle and epic moments in the show. The show ended for me in episode 9.
I thought for sure he was gonna be a good guy by the end. Everything they did leading up to that was setting up for that ending. And frankly I think it's defensible, he got a chance to see what it could've been like via the portal and it did nothing but confuse him because at heart he's still the same man no matter which side of the portal he's on. You know who he reminds me of a lot? The guy in my avatar picture. The same guy who said he did everything for his family, but that's not at all why he truly did it, as we come to find out as the show progresses. And there is no good ending for a man who did all the evil things John did.
Alternate ending: Rather than committing suicide, John Smith escapes to the rift on foot and arrives as it is turning on. A bright light appears and the first person he sees, is his son Thomas, dressed in a US Marines uniform, prepared to apprehend his alternate timeline father. The end sequences shows The US on the Ally Victory timeline has been researching the rift and after becoming privy to the alternate timeline Nazi's sabotaging their nuclear program. They set up a faux war in vietnam to cover for what is truly a fight with the Nazi's in the Axis timeline. After many years of fighting, the Ally's win, close the rift and the "Vietnam War" ends in what appears to be a stalemate, but the soldiers who fought know that they actually defeated the Nazi's again and it is why they never speak of their war time. It ends with an aged Thomas Smith telling his "stories" to his grandchildren as they laugh on a holiday, as they scatter his sister Jennifer smiles from across the room because she knows the truth.
Side Note: I interpreted the ending the same way you did, essentially "i guess people can live in whatever universe they feel is best for them now or something? yay" But if you really think about it... this universe was one completely controlled by Nazi's/axis powers up until 5 minutes before these people walked through the gateway... so essentially it turns out that the portal is just a beacon for people who wanted to be Nazi's, but couldnt in their own world. Long story short... The portal is now a beacon for all Nazi's in the universe and the good guys lose >.>
Nice theory dude, that would also explain why the vietnam war lasted longer than it did, because it took time to beat the nazis all the way back to the germany, not to mention that they also needed to rebuild america as a state.
Goddamn! This was good actually! You should be the write of this show, you know that? Tbh, that would be better than the actual story which ended in an ugly way.

Tagomi gone because the actor didn't sign on for another season so the plans they probably had for him likely changed the whole story. or at least the season or first half of the season. Eds character as well due to having another role on another show was just gone completely. his best friend well basically his brother was killed off and he just drops a banner and peaces off to the neutral zone happily ever after, after he went on about that shit of "finally feeling what freedom is" and then just vanishes. Johns Daughters while one is brainwashed and the other isn't now have to deal with the fact that their father and mother died due to Rebels. how do they deal with that? Robert sells his shop then just fucks off no where to be seen, we can only guess if the Yakuza held their end of the bargain and let him board or fucked him over. and if he did board the ship to japan we have to guess/assume he dicked around for a bit until he found his wife. and then the portal people/portal being left up has no explanation just gotta hope whatever the fuck juliana said was enough..... just ugh i'm so sad i watched the final season. When you’re such a badass no one can kill you but yourself Edit: I don’t think John was made Führer of America. More likely he kept the office of Reichsmarchall while taking Himmler’s position of head of the SS (Reichsführer die SS). They most likely call him Reichsführer since it is the higher office. This can also be seen on the seal behind his desk when he makes the speech in the last episode which is that of the Reichsmarchall
I'm pretty sure it was a situation where he was given a lot of autonomy over running *Nazi* America as he saw fit, with a lot less oversight from the German Nazis.
When you understand that the book, as incredible and ahead of its time as it was, ends with the main characters literally (no pun intended) realizing they're in a book, it makes the confusion of writing an ending for the show make a lot more sense.
Watching the first three episodes took forever, but everyone said keep going you’ll get into it. Thanks to this recap, I’ll never have to slog through another minute of this nonsense.
John Smith needed to die if he had any shred of integrity. However, he could have defeated the nazis to begin his atonement and as a final karmic repayment he could have killed him self. There was no way he could have been forgiven.
@@captainkane1984 exaclty at the end I think they shouldnt give him a full redemption arc and turn him into a totally good guy, but he never was fully comited to all nazi ideas and the right ending for him should have been when he turned into north americas's fuhrer stopped the invasion of the west coast and free america or at least dont use concentration fields and the nazi methods anymore, just reunite america in a kind of pacific way and then the country could become the one from the world that he visited and only had Thomas
So one thing that I wish this series focused more on is the infighting that took place between the Japanese army branch and Naval branch. Even during peaceful times.
In the films, there are universes where Juliana was shot by Joe Blake, then Joe Blake shot himself dead. The people on those universe must have taken control of their portal and crossing over to Juliana's universe.
Tagomi being assassinated early on I think is because he either couldn't or wouldn't return to the show for the final season. Another character who didn't show up was Ed, Frank's friend.
Yeaaa, finally!!! I couldn'thave watched this series without you, Man of Recaps!!!! (Literally, I am too lazy to watch the whole thing episode by episode). Thanx!!!
I also hate the whole subtext of the BCR arc. They’re pretty much saying communism is “the answer to America’s unfulfilled promises” “America had a promise that was never kept”.
wdym, you do realize, in that timeline, like the 1940s to 1960s Black People were heavily discrimnated against lol? so that was the promise America could never fulfill, to make all men equal, and so, like many repressed groups do, they turned to communism.
In their timeline it never came true.... The US never recovered from the great depression, the nazis took over, they never knew a US without segregation or persecution, even less so when the Nazis killed all the minorities in the American Reich, they had to flee to mexico, the JPS and the neutral zone
Well that fell apart brilliantly. After they introduced the BCR, I was out. I didn't understand why another rebel faction would be introduced in the final season. Thank you for finishing it for me.
Best recap ever, the commentator reviews, facilitates, explains etc. and certainly makes it more fun hearing & watching the entetainment. Hope this trend gets supported by the studios, being one of the best marketing techniques for promoting their products. I now find the show in my list of 'to watch' material, especially that the embedded multi-verse & the suggested implications 0f the concept are now known! Surely it'll be worthy escapes watching all this in detail over four seasons.
0:30 EXACTLY!! In my opinion one of the biggest mistake this show has done it's killing Joe Blake. I mean why kill one of the main characters of the show and the one Juliana has feelings for? Makes no sense
I just love alternate history/reality stories and this was a great show barring the rushed ending. I'd like to see other alternate history novels getting their dedicated TV series as well. Bring The Jubilee, The Yiddish Policemen Union, Pavane, Fatherland (it has its low budget movie and I liked the movie nevertheless), The Difference Engine (Steampunk, YES!), The Years of Rice and Salt, Leviathan series (Steampunk and Biopunk), The Gate of Worlds, The Guns of the South, West of Eden series, The Iron Dream etc. Also, people should check out SS-GB television adaptation as well.
After the importance of the movies in this show, I think it would have been better at the end for the portal to have opened and 'played' various/numerous alternatives, or for Juliana to have returned to a vision with Tagomi where some deep philosophical point is expressed in line with the metaphysics of the tale. One thing that was sorely missing from the entire concept - space travel. The Nazis had rockets from the late 30s and Von Braun already had a scaled-down version of the Saturn V (which was actually tested), so if they had achieved supersonic flight and atomic tech, what would they have put into space by the mid 60s? Could have added another layer to the culture, but they certainly created a very sinister 'what if' scenario for most of the show.
They just left so many loose ends. Johns daughters being one of the main ones. how are the sisters going to go on now that they are orphaned? ones been brainwashed and one hasn't. how is the fallout after that? finding out their parents both died due to the rebels. will one sister dig into her beliefs for the reich? will the other be sad but happy she is free? will they grow apart? will they come together? just pure filth this ending is. Ed having no appearance in the entire last season as well was super shitty. Not being able to truly flesh out how he feels and deals with Franks death was annoying. his best friend/basically his brother of MANY YEARS was taken off and killed......this time for good and he goes off to live happily ever after, dude decides to drop a banner and peace out???? after all that stuff of finally feeling what "true freedom is" And Robert was never seen getting on the boat to japan despite giving the Yakuza his shop for it. he basically disappears after that point, so we can only assume or guess the yakuza honored their part of the deal and let him board and he fucked around in japan for some time until he found his wife. I guess the actors for Ed and Tagomi took another job or didn't sign on for this season, which honestly is probably a huge part of the reason for why this show felt rushed towards the end...the potential story and plans they probably had written for these characters were not allowed to be fleshed out. I know amazon most likely didn't want to wait and they clearly didn't wait for the 2 actors to be available to film the season instead they just wrote them out and made it so "ones in the neutral zone living happily ever after" and "one got killed.
People in the end are people who was killed by nazi. I don't remember the exact episode, but Abenson told that it's possible to travel between world because many people were killed.
Unpopular opinion: I liked the BCR plotline, since it adresses the fate of minorities under each empire, something that was glossed over for most of the show and had likeable characters like Mallory and Equiano. Although it was very rushed and didn't develop all the stories it had planned. I thought we were going to see Mallory's dreams of luxury clash with her ideology. Maybe a good way analyze how a people's movement can be derailed when the disenfranchised take control. If the BCR had been introduced earlier in the show this wouldn't be a problem
@@connorbestbarlow1043 The BCR would have made more sense if there had been a fifth season. I thought they were fine but I'm not sure it's a good idea to introduce a new player so late.
You know, I was expecting a happy ending where the US soldiers from the main timeline appear and aid the rebels in defeating the Nazi regime. Perhaps this would have been a likely conclusion after many more people from the portal step in? There is much to discuss even after the final season.
The show went downhill right after season 1, episode 6 where they introduced how ‘meditating’ can make you travel into future worlds/dimensions. If they wanted to go down that route of time travel, they should made it more logical and maybe introduced a time small machine device that the Japanese, Nazis and Resistance fight to gain possession of.
Yeah that's when I zoned out. You're getting a realistic scenario about an alternate world with so many plotlines and developments, and then suddenly you can meditate into another timeline. That's where they lost me. Almost as if the show got bored of the alternate history timeline
im happy that i gave up on the series,i though this was gonna be a spy series cold war between japan and germany with us resistance fighting both,i lost it when the multiverse crap was introduced
something was great something was bad, all season feels like it's hurry to somewhere, BCR appears from nowhere, why they not mention them in previous seasons? Ending was in hurry too Anyway, it's was supergood to see them again
THANK YOU. I hear two days ago about this serie for the first time and REALLY made me want to see it but come on, I bought the idea of the multiverse without being 100% convinced and they give me an ending like this?
More like so many people died that it was easy for lots of people able to cross the multiverse to settle in this one, giving it enough diversity that no new Nazi movement can take hold again.
@@OolTube02 Most likely all the added diversity would make everyone realise how badly they needed the Reich in America. Diversity only manages to work in real life because it happened so slowly and the media goes to great length trying to convince everyone it's normal. Dump 10s of millions of non-whites claiming they're entitled to the country all at once and they'll get the push back they should have received in our reality.
This entire series would have been a lot better as just an alternate reality scenario with no universe-jumping or portals or any of that nonsense.

That’s the ending?? I’d be pissed if I read an entire book and THAT was how they tied up the end of the book.
People have to realize that just because America is autonomous now doesn’t mean they’re independent. They’re still subservient to Berlin.
Yeah and communist in the us?
But, The general that took power WANTED independance
Its more than likley, he declared independance from the German Reich
No they’re not gotzman or whatever his name was told John smith the American Reich was his he only wanted the European Reich
The whole "only an american can rule America" made me cringe so hard
Isn't that the story of the 🇺🇸 in this reality ¿?
Watching the first three episodes took forever, but everyone said keep going you’ll get into it. Thanks to this recap, I’ll never have to slog through another minute of this nonsense.
I didn't like that John Smith kills himself he was my favorite character.
John Smith needed to die if he had any shred of integrity. However, he could have defeated the nazis to begin his atonement and as a final karmic repayment he could have killed him self. There was no way he could have been forgiven.
@@captainkane1984
I like the way alt Smith became a travelling salesman because he believed he should not have any power.
I must say I’m guilty of shedding a few tears after helen and John died
Thank god it wasn’t just me who was unclear with the ending.
In the films, there are universes where Juliana was shot by Joe Blake, then Joe Blake shot himself dead. The people on those universe must have taken control of their portal and crossing over to Juliana's universe.
Thank you Man Of Recaps for doing great recaps and for being hilarious.
Tagomi being assassinated early on I think is because he either couldn't or wouldn't return to the show for the final season. Another character who didn't show up was Ed, Frank's friend.
It’s sad that I didn’t even know he was gone. I lost interest when they made him gay out of nowhere and for no reason with no warning
Hello and welcome back to man of recaps
Will never get tired of this 💗
Yeaaa, finally!!!
The show joined the liberal movement in season 3, sadly.
wdym, you do realize, in that timeline, like the 1940s to 1960s Black People were heavily discrimnated against lol? so that was the promise America could never fulfill, to make all men equal, and so, like many repressed groups do, they turned to communism.
In their timeline it never came true....
The US never recovered from the great depression, the nazis took over, they never knew a US without segregation or persecution, even less so when the Nazis killed all the minorities in the American Reich, they had to flee to mexico, the JPS and the neutral zone
@@jesusramirezromo2037 Couldn't have said it better myself.
Glad I watched this instead of dragging myself through all 4 seasons!
I’ve been waiting for this for so long. Thank you.
love this show just from your recaps xD
The high hand salute loop at the end....wow dude.
WUUTTT SEASON 4. BRUUUHHH ❤❤
They could have done a whole sequel series with a John Smith redemption arc
Holy shit that ending. I'm so glad I watched this recap rather than spend time watching all the episodes. Wtaf
Great video. I really needed that for this last season.
Season 1 was interesting as hell. But it gets more complicated to follow as the season progress
0:30 EXACTLY!! In my opinion one of the biggest mistake this show has done it's killing Joe Blake. I mean why kill one of the main characters of the show and the one Juliana has feelings for? Makes no sense
i've been waiting all my life for this
Leonardo Zúñiga same
Thank you so much for this. I want to know what happens without sitting through every depressing episode.
“Soo...can I go?” Lol, that made me laugh
"...Oh I just realized I am the bad guy" and kills himself. LOL this had me rolling.
Amazon: (This show) It has to stop....
Writers and producers: I don't know how...
I am so happy I found your channel because this show is so slow and boring but the way you explain it it's fast paced easy to enjoy
I am completely shocked and disappointed when Tagomi died.
He was my favorite character in the series
7:44 this scene is fucking amazing & worthy a laughter😂
Thank you! That has just saved me 10 hours 😍
Bad part of this show is I found myself sideing with john Smith got to say I likethe bad guys in movies or shows
Sympathy for the devil...as it were. It's a nice little trick Hollywood does. And what it does is ebb away slowly at your morals and convictions.
Yea, we all kind of understand that when we look at you.
Nice nice!
Another epic recap
This and the bachelor!
Keep it up.
Not being able to truly flesh out how he feels and deals with Franks death was annoying. his best friend/basically his brother of MANY YEARS was taken off and killed......this time for good and he goes off to live happily ever after, dude decides to drop a banner and peace out???? after all that stuff of finally feeling what "true freedom is"
And Robert was never seen getting on the boat to japan despite giving the Yakuza his shop for it. he basically disappears after that point, so we can only assume or guess the yakuza honored their part of the deal and let him board and he fucked around in japan for some time until he found his wife.
I'm glad I found this channel, let's me go through shows I gave up on. And with that ending, pretty glad I gave up on this
My head-canon to the ending of this show is episode 9 where all the Nazi's die & the Reich is split & John liberates America.
exaclty
I love these recaps video. I just subscribe and I feel this season could do better
Really wanted to see aliens come through that damn portal. This last season was so messed up they might as well have done that.
Or fucking Space Marines
Finally been wanting since season 4 came out
You are doing a great service my man.
Thank god I decided to drop the show in middle of season 1, and watch these recaps
People in the end are people who was killed by nazi.
I don't remember the exact episode, but Abenson told that it's possible to travel between world because many people were killed.
thx for recapping all i watched in 2 days in less than 10 minutes
You're funny as hell, keep it up
The whole thing could be peak 90s command and conquer plot
Red Alert 2 type! lol
Unpopular opinion:
I liked the BCR plotline, since it adresses the fate of minorities under each empire, something that was glossed over for most of the show and had likeable characters like Mallory and Equiano.
Maybe show the BCR stray from their ideology and become oppressive like the communists in our world
@@connorbestbarlow1043
The BCR would have made more sense if there had been a fifth season.
I thought they were fine but I'm not sure it's a good idea to introduce a new player so late.
I couldnt be more grateful to you for recapping this show for me... you saved he hours of this crappy show!
Why do you need it recaped if you think it's crappy
I cried more for the normal John Smith than for nazi John Smith.
That just saved me 4 seasons of wasted time. thank you :)
I like how you talk about this, its hilarious!!!
I just finished season 1 and thank you for saving me form the rest of the seasons
You know, I was expecting a happy ending where the US soldiers from the main timeline appear and aid the rebels in defeating the Nazi regime. Perhaps this would have been a likely conclusion after many more people from the portal step in? There is much to discuss even after the final season.
Yayyyyyy! Another series I never got around to finishing.................now I'm done :) Thanks MoR !
Sorry I should have said...Her Obursturmermurmerermerfuhrer.
Thank you for the recap. I only watched seasons 1 and 2 and no patience for 3 and 4.
im happy that i gave up on the series,i though this was gonna be a spy series cold war between japan and germany with us resistance fighting both,i lost it when the multiverse crap was introduced
Thanks for that I didn’t have to waste my time watching series 2-4
So glad I didn't waste time watching the last 2 seasons. Your recaps are brilliant.
First season 10
Second season 8
Third season 5
Fourth season...I didn't bother watching
Thanks for the recaps!
something was great something was bad, all season feels like it's hurry to somewhere, BCR appears from nowhere, why they not mention them in previous seasons? Ending was in hurry too
Anyway, it's was supergood to see them again
BCR - > BLM ?
@@suzyqualcast6269
They're the Black Panther Party from the late 1960s
So glad it stopped watching after s2. Thanks
The end of Season 4 shows all those people who WANTED to join a Nazi-run state.
I'm so glad I only saw the recaps and not the full series. I would have felt it was a big waste of time
Wow S4 what a let down to a really fantastic tv series !
Thank you for saving hours of my life🙂
And there you go, in just one hour, merely by watching recaps instead of investing my time in watching the show, I saved myself from a shit ending :D
Was writing an essay today and could hear it in your voice 😂😂😂
You should do recap of The Hobbit and the Lordi of the rings
THANK YOU. I hear two days ago about this serie for the first time and REALLY made me want to see it but come on, I bought the idea of the multiverse without being 100% convinced and they give me an ending like this?
I interpreted the ending as all the people who died in the concentration camps coming back to life as a way of restoring this reality to normal 🤷♂️
Reminded me if imagery from the original Poltergeist & Close Encounters films.
That's kind of lame and gay.
