    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    Spaz (Jack Blum) has a run-in with some jerks from Camp Mohawk, while Tripper (Bill Murray) spreads some false information about the rival camp.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    Set at a low-end summer camp and aimed squarely at a teen audience, Meatballs is a light screwball comedy that turned its low-budget Canadian roots into a very profitable box-office run. The biggest reason for the film's success is Bill Murray who stars as Tripper, the head counselor who runs things at Camp Northstar with the help of his love interest Roxanne (Kate Lynch) and the camp's director Morty (Harvey Atkins), who is affectionately known as Mickey. Camp opens with Tripper and Morty preparing the misfit counselors-in-training -- Spaz, Fink, Crockett, A.L., Candace, Wendy, and Wheels among them -- for the arrival of their hyperactive little charges. After settling in, kids and counselors begin their activities with a soccer game in which depressed 11-year-old Rudy (Chris Makepeace) accidentally loses the game. Cast out by the other children, Rudy runs away only to come across Tripper, who befriends the boy and makes him his running partner. Romance, sexy fun, and comic hijinx -- usually with the heavy-sleeping Morty as their target -- lead up to an annual Olympiad in which Camp Northstar battles the wealthier and athletically superior residents of Camp Mohawk. The challenging events include cup stacking, potato-sack racing, and a nauseating hot dog-eating contest in which the portly Fink devours his way to victory. With the two-day event tied up, it comes down to the cross-country run, in which Tripper enters Rudy. Meatballs was the first major directorial effort by multi-talented filmmaker Ivan Reitman, whose name has since become synonymous with the comedy genre.

    The camp scenes were filmed about fifteen minutes from where I live, and this particular scene was filmed in the parking lot of the K-Mart in my mum's hometown, Lindsay, ON. Her friend actually got to be an extra in this scene. Very cool to watch, because I actually recognize a lot of the locations.

      He actually either rewrote or improvised the best parts of the movie. He was bored and he knew he could make better material than the writers. They let him do it because it worked.

    Bill Murray has done so much great work, comedic, dramatic, improved, or clever interpretations of the words in the script, but this little bit he does, from the moment is notices the reporter through when he wishes him a good summer is in my top five. He's so loose, so casual, and it's all done effortlessly. Even some of his great bits in Stripes and Ghostbusters aren't as seamless or natural. I'd love to get my hands on the original script to see what was in it and what Murray improvised, and possibly what Ramis wrote with Murray in mind.

    If you ever make a comedy with Bill Murray. All you have to do is write one line of dialogue and Murray would take care of the rest. Best improv actor l’ve ever seen. Him and Robin Williams would have been excellent in a film together.

    Actually, this was Ivan Reitman's second film. His first one was the offbeat horror comedy, "Cannibal Girls", starring Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin, who both later starred in the sketch comedy series, "SCTV".

    • @andrewbloom7637
      @andrewbloom7637 Год назад

      Reitman's directorial debut was 1971's "Foxy Lady", which featured both Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin in their film debuts. "Cannibal Girls", released in 1973, was his sophomore effort, but it was his third film, 1979's "Meatballs", that became his true directorial breakthrough.
