We are always introduced to the Mighty Morphin team as the originals but before them there was another team and their leader was a woman.
Power Rangers is an American television series and franchise of the tokusatsu genre, version of Super Sentai Series, a Japanese television series of the same genre. It has been broadcast since 1993. From 2002 to 2009, the franchise was owned by The Walt Disney Company, but was reacquired in 2010 by Haim Saban, its creator and original driving force between Mighty Morphin and Wild Force (the latter created early in production before the sale of Saban Entertainment to Disney). On May 1, 2018, it was confirmed that the franchise was bought by Hasbro.

So, the Sentai team the "super sonic rangers" are based on are the "fivemen" whose parents were astronauts taken into space by aliens just a few years before the real moon landing. Just a fun note there.
Also, chronologically, the first red ranger, by the sentai timeline was the Red Zyuranger (Our MMPR) since they were from 65 million years ago, as was Bandora, who became the US Rita
Zyuranger is finally available on Tubi to watch, and it is glorious.

@@peterparker-wu3io yes, I suppose they could have as I hadn't tried Tubi in some time since it used to be rather terrible in it's implementation. Thankfully it's now an excellent service. I was looking on Pluto before, who also has a bunch of Super Sentai, but not Zyuranger for whatever ridiculous reason.
Sentai atarted in 1970s and power rangers came in 1990s so.... Ranger are based on sentai not the other way around.

Imagine the Power Ranger movie franchise that could be built upon these stories and history of the Rangers. I think it would rival DC and Marvel.

well tecnically the first rangers on earth was the emisaries that before becoming one with the morphin grid they were the first sentient habitants on earth, a really advanced race where the ghost ranger came from and where he first discovered and proposed the theory of the morphing grid, setting up the events for the first rangers to appear once a evil enemy from the void tried to explode the morphing grid to destroy the multiverse, also this First team of rangers also had the first red ranger who was also a Woman, just that not this one from 1969. once they defeated the enemy and saved the mutliverse the big amount of morphing grid energy wiped out all life on earth reseting the world and turning them into the emisaries so yeah... tecnicaly not the first red ranger but the first red ranger was Indeed a woman

This story is from the Boom! Studios series from 2016 (I believe). If I’m not mistaken, it’s part of Shattered Grid.
To me you have to look at the comic series as an alternate universe MMPR set in the present day. It's not aimed at kids like the original tv show it's more like the MCU movies it is aimed at an older audience, but nothing bad for kids to read.
and you know what that means. That the original red ranger is still billy. Making up a prequel story after decades of the original... with a woman replacing a man, screams woke all over the place, just like today's hollywood.
In this case, there is no damage being done luckily. Its just a story and the woman character is an extra character, not a full replacement. So overall its not that bad. But the annoying thing is that they keep doing the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over... So now, every time I see a genderswap, i'll burn that show to the ground.
Same thing if you raceswap. Thank god they dont raceswap Blade.

Hate to break it to you, but Grace Sterling was *not* Earth's first Red Ranger. The TV show established that the ancestors of the main team were in fact the first Rangers, and thus, the first Red Ranger was still a man.

The comic series you got this from was someone trying to reset the original power rangers. It's actually not original lore. With that said the morphin grid does expand over endless dimension so some where in the multiple dimension this could have happen. You say this is first power rangers but what about the Morphing Masters? They were rangers millions of years before both of these sets of rangers were made. Even before Zordon was a ranger.
They turn the leader into a girl because they've run out of relevant stories to tell. It's the comic book trope of tropes now. Make the superhero a girl to subvert things 🙄

They were never mentored sense the 1969 power ranger series wasn't planned. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing a presequel. How shocking would it be if we found out Tommy parents were power rangers? Show should have gotten into more depth with who his parents were.

The first group of Power Rangers are Zaito's first team from Dino Furry. And Zaito is the first Red Ranger.

There may have yet to be a female red ranger on the tv show…but i seem to recall there being an older power rangers series, from like the turn of the millennium, where the pink ranger was technically the leader. I can’t recall which series it was tho! i was a tiny little kid, maybe 7 or 8 years old, so maybe I’m just remembering wrong.

You're living in a bubble. Power Rangers fanbase is tiny in the grand scheme of things. I loved PRs but as a hardcore fanbase it is super niche. The movie failed at the box office regardless of its quality because it has very limited appeal, that's the reality. As big as Power Rangers was in the early 90s it paled in comparison with Transformers in toy sales and general popularity. Turtles, He-man and Transformers dwarf any other kid shows success historically.

Back in 1993 it was a lot simpler. "Let's make a children's show as cheaply as possible. We'll recycle footage from this Japanese show and add American sitcom elements to it! Plot? A witch on the moon wants to conquer earth! And that was about it. The show got really popular and fans love the original (Original as in who we first saw on TV) rangers. The people writing the stories and adding to it today likely had nothing to do with the franchise 30 years ago, which is why you are bound to have inconsistencies with the story.

This story arc is actually good for an older audince but too dark to be a kids show. No ranger ever died except for Zordon when he sacrificed himself at the end of PR in Space. This story arc leads to a later story from the Boom comic universe. So Grace was the very 1st. MM-Red Ranger but later on she tryed with a bunch of researches to replicate the the morphers and the 6th. ranger the Dragon coin of the MM Green Ranger. It was a guy called Mattiew and he was supposed to be in a relationship with Kimberly after she brought up with Tommy. But meanwhile Tommy didn't liked him at all. And it turned out in battle between Tommy and him. The GREEN VS. the WHITE RANGER.

Super Sentai is it's own thing. Power Rangers is an adaptation of it. Just because Power Rangers is based on Super Sentai it isn't connected in anyway shape or form to the stories.
