MAINE!! Take that from a lifelong Mass. resident. We drove up Rt. 1 along the coast then north back highways to Katadhin, the mountain at the top of the Appalachian trail, and I have NEVER seen such vivid and continuous color in my life, and I am over 55. Plenty of forgotten American history, like the first naval battle of the Revolutionary War in Machias, where, also, the river is beautiful any season.

Love your videos. Makes me miss my Dad and brings back wonderful memories of our trips together. He planned summer trips for our family for years while I was growing up… and he really appreciated going on trips I planned as an adult. These included a backpacking trip to Yellowstone, two Route 66 roadtrips, and hiking trip of the circuit of High Sierra camps in Yosemite as a retirement gift. Enjoy your times together!

The Phone tip is priceless! Many mapping applications like Google maps and Apple Maps. Allow you to download an area and keep it off-line. I’m gonna make sure I do that before I get to New Hampshire. Thank you. Vs

I was there a week before you and drove up to Mt Washington. I was surprised to see the the difference in climate between what you experienced and what my daughter and I experienced. Ours was sunny and not too cold. My daughter planned our trip which included the high points of New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. I definitely want to return and do some of the things you did on your trip. Being from the Evergreen State, New England in the Fall is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. So beautiful.

Want multitudes of red trees? Machias area Maine “Downeast”! Completely dazzling!!! No lie. I have lived in N.E., Mass., all of my life, seen many areas in autumn, and never anything to match it. #1 GORGEOUS. You’ll never forget it.

thanks for the video! i think it's also expensive b/c these are smaller new england towns vs big metropolitan cities where they have more hotels/accomodations. more hotels = more competition, so prices will be lower.

One tip. i always go into Google Maps and download the area I'm traveling to for offline use. As long as you have GPS reception (which should be always) you can search for locations and get directions.

I bought your ebook, which I think is a great idea so I don't have to try to write furiously as you're talking. 😀 One question I had was about the app you used, the Gypsy Guide. Did that download everything to your phone so it didn't matter that the internet was cutting out, or was it a problem using it when there was no connection?
FYI, the link at the bottom wasn't clickable, but the QR code works.
    Thanks for the information!

@@marknapiorkowski I’m curious what northern or central Vermont and New Hampshire looks like during that time, I know it will be past peak but I wonder how far past and if theirs still great color, as much as I love the peak colors I do appreciate the rustier tones, deeper oranges, yellows and even browns that the oaks show and the bright colors of fall colors still left on the maple trees while they’re falling off. Seeing the leaves on the ground is also a pretty site and the leaves showering over top of you while you’re walking through the forest.

We were there about the same time you were, but in our small trailer. Our month or so in New England was one of our most expensive time periods in the last year and a half of full-timing. Campgrounds were pricey and I had a $22 glass of wine in Bar Harbor. Not even a nice glass and it was in a plastic cup 🤣 BUT fall there was magical! In New Hampshire we had a lakefront site and I was 100% mesmerized by the reflections of the trees. Just stunning! Bummer we didn’t run in to you somewhere! Fantastic video as always Josh.

3:42 This is Sleepy Hollow Farm. Just a heads up Cloudland Road, which is the dirt road where the farm is located will be CLOSED to tourists from late September to mid October 2023 due to some tourists being disrespectful to private property, leaving trash, and being verbally abusive to locals living nearby.
Also its been very rainy this summer and most hiking trails will be wet and muddy. If you plan on stretching your legs with a little hike ,maybe bring some extra socks, shoes.
This video is one of the more informative posts I've seen on the subject, really well done.
I live in Vermont and fall is my favorite season so I can hardly wait!
