- We've finally finished our epic chateau guest room project! What took us so long? Procrastation plus many other jobs around the property.
Plus we give you an update on Mimi the chateau cat and did we pick a bathroom color?

Welcome to Our French Chateau!
We are Amanda and Lincoln. With our two daughters and pets in tow, we moved across the world from our home in San Francisco California to buy and restore a petite chateau on 40 acres in the beautiful French countryside of Brittany.
Our channel will document our triumphs and failures in restoring the 19th-century Chateau de Lingourdy. We plan on returning the gardens, cottages and barns back to their former glory (on a tight budget) and opening it up to the public for events and luxurious stays. So if you're interested in observing daily life through the eyes of an American family whose French language skills are quite lacking and who have amassed a menagerie that includes cats, dogs, and donkeys, please join us...

Just beautiful. I have been following chateau renovations on youtube and you are the only chateau owners who style their rooms by combining period pieces with modern. Your style choices result in an amazing fusion of the two - one enhancing the other. Thank you for sharing these beautifully finished rooms with us. It's an absolute delight to follow your progress and to see the stunning results. I don't live in a chateau or plan to but I really appreciate how you plan and design your beautiful home. Agree.. There a lot of people out there overpaying various brocantes for terrible old tat that looks like stuff my Aunty Doreen ditched in 1970. Just because something is old doesnt necessarily make it beautiful or practical in the modern world. I laugh at all the men cooing over manky old copper pans that they're never really going to cook in, or polish 😄
There are chateau owners that want to make a business out of the chateau keeping the interior design and decor the closest possible to the time the chateau was built and it really works. Europeans and people from all over the world like to get marry and stay in a chateau that is restored with antiques.
Chateau Lalande is one of them. The chatelaine Stephanie and her team has done a great work making of Chateau Lalande a prosperous business.
The way you decorated was literally just chef's kiss!!! So great! So you can decorate and cook!!! Damn it!!!

The Black would have looked great with the black poster bed, and true the armour did't fit in, but the grey paint works beautifully matching the fireplace perfectly. Great job guys, love it

The new guest bedroom is beautiful. It’s so elegant. The leak at the window with the faulty keystone could have a temporary solution if you add a shield of sorts just below the bottom of the stone to divert the water . Amanda, you and Lincoln have great taste.

The sofa is perfect for the room. Perhaps what it needs is a small side table next to the fireplace? The room might also benefit from a large floor rug to tie the room together. The bed is wonderful! It is a lovely room, made all the more exquisite by the presence of the cat. I applaud your devoted love of the creatures in your care. Beautifully done.

Good video! The guest room is very nice. Can't wait to see the finished bathroom. Glad Mimi is doing ok, despite the setback. Sorry to see the flooding in the basement and leaking in the guest room. Just adds more things that have to be done. But you still have a wonderful home and you are making progress with the renovations. Happy New Year!
I love the new guestroom. Your color selection was excellent. I loved the white plate with the angel face that you placed on top of the fireplace. I absolutely loved that. I also really liked the fireplace inserts and the personal touches of the pictures. The picture of your donkey made me smile. Here is my thought process on the sofa. I would leave that one there and not get anything bigger. The Jewel of the room is that fireplace and I think a bigger sofa would steal some of its thunder. When you walk into the room you want your eyes to go to the fireplace not the big leather sofa, that’s just my opinion, I never saw an armoire with mirrors on the front and I absolutely love that too. You and Lincoln did a beautiful job. I would also like to add that I’m glad you took your time panning around the room so we could really absorb everything you did.

The guest room is lovely,i especially love the marble coffee table, in my opinion,I would put a rug underneath,to give the room a more cosy feel , I think the couch is a perfect size,love stripe fabric in any shape or form!👌
The bedroom is beautiful! Also, I grew up around horses and burros. It's funny but they won't go into shelter during bad weather. Another funny thing is, in our case, the burros would go into canyons during windy blizzards but the horses would not. It's not so windy in the bottom of a canyon. In more recent years, we had a horse who joined the herd. That particular horse will go into a barn during particularly bad weather and other horses tend to follow. But, in the end, they all tend to stand there, outside, with their backside towards the wind, and suffer through it. That's what they've been doing for hundreds of thousands of years. If you have a blizzard, I'd do everything I can to get them out of the wind.
I can't understand it! Maybe we need to build another house for them...
@@OurFrenchChateau Honestly, I would not worry about it if I were you. Burros are smart - at least compared to horses (and perhaps a few people). But, here is a suggestion: you could find a feed they particularly like. In the part of the world I live in, we have something that is called cotton seed cake. It's candy for burros and horses (and cattle). Develop a call for your donkeys or get a horn or bell or something you could train them with - like Pavlov's dog. Yell out your donkey call and give them their donkey candy in their shelter. Maybe they'll stay there in bad weather. Burros are herbivores and herd animals. They like to be in the open where it is easier for them to watch for predators. The only thing you really need to watch for is prolonged blowing snow. The snow can build up around their noses (like stucco) and suffocate them. I don't see France having too many blizzards like that. Anyway, love your program and your chateau. It's not too plain, not too over-the-top, nicely distanced away from cities and highways, and is just right. You and your family are doing it a great service.
Oh my goodness, hope your basement dried up and the leak upstairs didn't do too much damage. By the way, I love your photographs - you've got a good eye and great design sense. All the best in 2023! 🥂

As a Portuguese citizen married to an American and living in Texas, I hope we can one day follow in your footsteps. I have always been drawn to French items when thrifting. I think a grey leather sofa in the guest room would look too modern for a chateau. Maybe you could visit a local charity shop or brocante and pick up something inexpensive. Good luck.♥️♥️♥️♥️😘

Guest room looks charming with your modernist slant. As i saw your flooded basement I might suggest an electric sump pump that automatically come on when the water table rises. I have no experience with donkeys, perhaps a cold shower was enjoyable? Happy New Year!
Happy New Year. I grew up in an old farm house with terrible windows. The rain never stayed out, and in the winter " Jack Frost," was on the inside of the windows.

You and Lincoln did such a wonderful job on the guest room, it looks calm and restful. Oh no, leaking and on all your new painting too, how dispiriting. Poor Mimi, I can sympathise, as I have just finished 7 weeks of radiation therapy for Breast Cancer on the Dec 19th and oooo the radiation burns to my poor boob. I look like I have some kind of 16th-century medieval disease!! Those donkeys make me laugh, they are such characters. Happy New Year to you Lincoln and the girls.

Lovely renovation. That plate thing with the head is quirky. Maybe talk about the pieces like that in the video, you mentioned the table. People find quirky things interesting.
You live near the coast. As you probably learned from living in the Bay Area, there are sea and land breezes that result from the temperature differences between the land and large bodies of water. The English Channel is quite deep and cold, with fast-moving currents that keep water temperatures quite low. These wind-effects occur at different times of the day, because of the warming and cooling effects of the sun. When I first saw one of the bedside tables, I thought, wauw - what a beauty, compared to alot of the ones I've seen! Beautifully aged wood! Next clip, I see, that there is actually a matching pair, which is not so easy to find. Then, I see, that you painted them.....🙄

Have you ever considered a run in shed for the donkeys or a lean to by the donkey house. Horses don’t like spaces where they don’t see the horizon. I can’t imagine they ever go into the donkey house but a lean to that keeps them out of the rain and wind with 2 sides open would get them out of wet weather. Getting wet this much doesn’t dry quickly
Glad you finished. Personally, I’m more a fan of antiques and / or reproductions from the time period. Not a fan of painting true antiques.
Stay upbeat. The leaks are a pain but you two will solve it. The guest room is beautiful. The course and ambiance. Very cosy. Will pray for Mimi's nose to heal. All the cats look so happy. Amanda, you ask for our opinion so here goes. I love the color of the walls in the newly finished bedroom. The armoire is beautiful also. Okay here goes what I don't really like. I think the furniture is too modern, the little couch, round brown table ( paint same color as end tables ), I would change the big picture to maybe floral print or a tapertsty and put a mirror above the fire place. I would also get sheers to drape on the bed on either side on the top frame to make the bed more romantic looking because of its modern appearance. I hope I didn't hurt your feelings of course everyone has their own taste, I'm a lace, sparkle, antique type of lady. God Bless, Kathy 🇺🇸
