Again, for those who don't own an abandoned and overgrown ancient villa built with nearly impenetrable stone and sometimes strange internal workings embedded within that impenetrable stone, it's your villa to repair and design as you wish. I think you are doing a great job!
Tips on garlic. In North America we plant garlic in the fall and leave them in the ground over winter then harvest them in early June. Then you braid the greenery together and that makes the long rope effect of the garlic plant go dry out. You have done a great job and always fun to watch. 🎉❤🙏
Love it that you think out of the box. Just a wee bit of a thought, when I've designed homes/floor plans & the customer wants to keep the bathrooms small & tight, they often regret it. On paper, graph paper or computer generated 3D images, it all looks good. The tough thing is when it's done & you can't change it. Straight up Sam, as good looking as your design is, the sink is too close to the tub. (Love the curve of the counter.) I truly believe it is a mistake to have them so close together. You might also consider creating much more counter around the sink. Lastly, I humbly suggest you might consider backing the toilet fixture further away from where you are brushing your teeth & keep your bathroom glass. Google info regarding how particles of water & whatever spread & how far they travel when the toilet is flushed. Well, this wasn't a wee bit o a thought! Please know this input comes out of a well intentioned place. I so admire the work you & your family are putting into your magnificent home. You're aesthetic is very pleasing & your work ethic is out of this world! Your videos are easy to watch & really enjoyable! Thank you! Cheers!
When designing your bathroom--think how often that room gets used--by whom and how long you plan to live there--Think practicality--when injury happens--or when illness comes to visit how many twists and turns does one have to make to use each "station" ..When one is young it is not an issue--but when mobility is a challenge how easy will it be for a person to get around.
Having grown up with my fathers adventures of trying to do a bathroom, my best advice is to get help planning it out. If you were a contractor that had done bathroom renovations all the time, go for it. Get some help with the plans, you have the skills to build it, but I worry about the placement of everything.
In italy we don’t water garlic but we sow in october-december. You have to harvest it now when it’ completely dry. Potatoe are sown in april, you can water them but harvest when the plants are almost dead, in this period. In bocca al lupo!
I like your design for the bathroom, it is very naturalistic, I can imagine lot's of lush plants, natural materials creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Speaking of nature, the biodiversity going on in the garden is amazing. Every pest has a predator which is beneficial to the garden, you really seem to be enjoying the garden and growing food. The garlic needs a good spell of cold weather to form bulbs, so better planted in late autumn to overwinter and be harvested in early summer the following year.
A suggestion about the boiler for your bathroom & the villa in general, why don’t you install a continuous hot water system. They are much smaller & you never run out of hot water. As the villa is so big perhaps a unit for each floor of the building. You can get gas or electric versions. It’s just a suggestion as you wouldn’t need to install such a big unit above your shower, it would also be cost saving as the a boiler would need to keep water hot for whenever you need it, a continuous unit doesn’t.
I enjoy greatly the filming of the insect world surrounding your villa, especially now with the vegetation you are planting. This may also draw a variety of birds and wildlife of sorts😊
The issue with fungal disease like blight or brown spot is it stays in the soil. You don’t want to discard the affected plants in your compost or near the beds either. Soon as we saw one tomato with blight, we pulled the whole plant, then burnt it in our fire pit. We use the Ruth Stoudt potato planting method too, where the potatoes don’t have contact to the soil. We do a layer of straw, then a thick layer of our compost, seed potato topped by a thick layer of straw. We keep adding straw as the plants grow. We’ve had great success & no disease. Much easier to harvest too(& cleaner). Ring your onions out, meaning scrape the soil away from the bulbs so that only the roots are buried. Your bulbs will be able to expand.
I'm looking forward to seeing the finished bathroom and seeing your vision. Let ppl have their opinion, but you don't need to justify your design decisions. You're doing great!
The night shots of your Villa Dreamy!!! So Beautiful 🌌🌝🌠the sound of the June bug taking flight from your hand summer music to my ears👏😁🐛🐝🐜🐞🌞🌼🦎so enjoy your filming of the plants and all the little insects 😊😊😊😊your Villa is full of Life your bathroom is COOL!!!! 😁😁😁😁😁😁💯💯💯💪🏼🤙🤘Super PROUD of you!!!!
The shower and tub bunched together will look so cramped. You should extend the plumbing to the other side of the room so all the water-using parts aren’t bunched together.
I was in the “don’t put it on the diagonal” camp Until I saw your design. It’s quite excellent. LIDAR is such an amazing tool. Even though We needn’t have the design, I imagine taking the time to do it will save you sleepless nights ahead. Marigolds and cinnamon could help the rodent in the garden issue. You are accomplishing a Very great deal all at once. Those of us watching are grateful to live vicariously, and you certainly needn’t apologize about anything. Your video quality has improved since starting. Do you follow Martijn Doolaard? He is another Dutch RUclipsr there in Italy. He has been renovating/homesteading a pair of stone cabins in the mountains above Turin. His work, although quite different from yours, may be instructive as well as inspirational. Anyway, Thank You so very much for sharing your journey. You’re doing great work and are quite the inspiration in your own right.
After you plan and draw your bathroom design and are happy with it. Mark it out with tape to exact measurements on the floor with tape and walk around and use it, it’s really worthwhile exercise as sometimes it works on paper but not in reality and you can change it before any work starts.
Please can you take the time to google companion planting instead of saying might as well try it, it’ll save time and effort, also very important to check spacing when planting and also print off a veg calendar - when to plant, these 3 things are the most important in my opinion
Seeing your design makes a huge difference in understanding what look you're doing. I really like that you are using timber and that you mentioned using stone. The shower design looks amazing, I didn't fully understand the explanation for the area above before seeing your design. 👍
It's so exciting to see your first harvest! Nothing tastes better than food you grow yourself. Pest pressure can be reduced with more airflow around the plants. You will learn so much about growing food in the next few years - it's a giant experiment you can eat!
Keep up the good work 🎉 I know way it is all in the same spot it is because all the plumbing it all in this corner and ouf.... this concrete wall is very hard ..... love your blog and yes keep up the good work young men 💛💚💙🤍👍👍👍👍👍
Another great way of propagating more rosemary is to pin some of the side branches down and slightly cover with soil, after a while one branch can yield multiple plants.👍
Easy way to do cuttings of rosemary - use the small young sprigs, pull off so there’s a small tail left on the bottom then put in a small pot and cover with a plastic bag
Hi Sam, Great video as always, I'm sorry about the troubles in the garden, I have no idea I'm sorry, but as you say this is your time for learning and finding out what grows well, where on your land. I think the bathroom looks great, really like the design of the bath on an angle, I don't think the people who are saying its cramped, remember the problems you've had with pipework and drainage embedded in the walls! I think t makes perfect sense to keep it nearby existing drainage etc otherwise youll be there forever chasing pipework through the floor and walls. You do what you need to do in your own time, thank you for taking us along for the ride. Let us know how you got on in your exam, I'm sure you did great, your english is flawless! Look forward to the next one, Take care 😊
I really love the adventure you are on and appreciate all the videos you or are creating. I just want to share my experiences of having a free standing, claw footed bath in the past; they are an absolute nuisance to clean behind and beneath. My advice to you is make sure you have left enough room for arms to reach in to clean. With mine, I had to lie on the floor and reach beneath the bath with dry and wet cloths to clean as the space was quite low. That was in the late 80’s so there may be better cleaning options today but worth considering.
Question: Would you consider adding a heated towel rack in your bathroom design? Perhaps on the wall where you proposed shelving for decor? You could still have one shelf for decor and the heated towel rack close to the bath and shower.
Goed bezig! Afrikaantjes en goudsbloemen planten tussen je groenten helpt tegen beestjes. Knoflook kan best vóór de winter geplant worden zodat je het aan het eind van het voorjaar kan oogsten. Succes!
Hi Sam, It's Debbie from Australia here. I say its your plans, design & your time & money, so do what makes you happy. Are the onions u pulled out (spring onions), I dont think they grow very big, but I'm probably wrong. Take care
Great crop of potatoes best eaten when little 😋 your garden is a haven for bug's you have to except the good with the bad. Bathroom is looking interesting don't forget the towel rails.
I don't like to write negative things, but you have a huge room for your bathroom and your design is so cramped, squishy. On the bright side I am glad I won't have to clean it!
Sam your bathroom design is not good why do u want cramp it all together. The bugs r beetle and they will destroy your who crop u have to spray to kill them.
Keep up the good work 🎉 I know it is that way because all the pluming is only on this wall and I saw you piercing this so thick concrete wall.....so keep on 👍👍👍👍👍👍💛💚💙🤍
kijk uit met die witte vlinders > dit zijn koolwitjes en komen op je groente af voor de rupsen maar wat zijn jullie opgeschoten met het huis, had je al een tijd niet meer bekeken dit ziet er echt mooi uit
hi, Sam. a suggestion about the steps to the bath tub 4 U to consider. The drawing shows a frame short wall around the tub. then, the red steps on top of the wall. That image is pleasant on paper. Yet, the use of it is awkward to the human legs & feet. Suggest a more functional line of ascent to the elevated bath tub. Allow the bath tub floor to be the landing step. Hence, the short walls stop at the corner of the red steps. The aftermath is a smooth, more functional ascent and descend. Adam from south of Modesto, California.
I love your videos I’m having a hard time with your vision of the bathroom but I’m trusting your vision. Enjoying your videos though I’m with you from day one but this is my first time commenting.
Shame about your potatoes but you did get some harvest, all your brassicas need netting, the white cabbage butterflies don’t eat the cabbages, the lay eggs that turn into caterpillars, they then destroy the plant. The split onion must be a shallot that’s what they do. Good luck you’re doing really well.
cleaning around open bathtubs like that can be challenging. Consider spraying foam insulation under and around the tub to help keep the bathtub water warm. The lips of the tub look more like a built in design and therefore more fragile than a standalone, consider enclosing all sides of the tub,
Your black beetle with white spots, looks like jewel beetles or metallic wood-boring beetles in the Buprestidae family. Have you seen "Dreaming of A Chateau"'s channel? Theirs is a bit smaller, but essentially structurally similar to the state of your place. They've got quite a few videos on their progress. They've nearly finished a kitchen other than fixtures, they have a Summer kitchen mostly done. Bedroom, guestroom, bathroom and washroom finished or mostly finished. I think that's a 1/3 of their place. And Alla loves gardening as well. Just thought you might get some ideas or even tips. They've done it all themselves as well. They are on Lake Como. No idea how far apart you are from them. You might be able to visit for inspiration.
Garlic and onions are day length sensitive. Garlic begins to die back once day length reaches long days so it needs to be planted in late fall, early winter to reach good size. Onions depend on the variety as well as your latitude in determining when they should be planted as there are long day and short day varieties.
so sad to lose so much crop! All your hard work!! All those gnocchi you could make with the potatoes!!!!! Very nice design! I don't think, from a strictly mechanical engineering standpoint, that a full tub atop wood would be safe!
@@gloriasmestad3803 it's the weight of the tub full of water that is so heavy that the feet go deep into the wood base. It will no longer be level, since wood isn't the same strength at every point, which jeopardizes the drain seal. Trust me - #WoodNotGoodUnderTub
You may like to put the bath in the middle of the room, you have a lovely big bathroom. Also put nets over your veg those are white cabbage butterfly's they will eat all your plants. Xxx
tip for garlic and tomato.5 gallon buckets .Make a hole in the bottom ,in the middle place the tomato plant in the hole ,fill the bucket with dirt and hang it up,Tomatoes will not rot and bear more fruit, Garlic fill the dirt half way and place the garlic sets ,,put more soil ,water and cover the top with plastic ,artificial greenhouse effect
Your problem with the bath position is not how you want it or how others think where it should be positioned. If you need to change the taps/pipe work or carry out repairs, you need to have adequate access, especially in an emergency. I’m looking forward to seeing how you progress, however you do it, I’ll enjoy the process. Rob,Cardiff, Wales 🏴
That's going to be great bathroom. Did you consider sink under the window for more space around the toilet? Sink with a view :), it's done in kitchens why not in bathroom. Have fun
Hi, Sam! Why not mix the styles? Keep the terracotta floor, have classic tiles on the wall and modern appliances like sink ,bath tube ,toilet and add antique mirror, shelves… Symmetrical disposition of everything- this is the classic style, no diagonal… You will have the cosy old vibe over the villa and the comfort of the modern life You have an email with ideas. 😊
Can I ask what software you are using to do the lidar scanning with? Are you doing it with an iPhone or a specific camera ? 😊 not sure on the design but as long as you like it that’s all that matters 😊
My grandma and mom use regular dish soap, after washing the dishes, she used the bubbles to keep the bugs off her plants, she (mom) was 95 yrs, her mom was in her 90s when they passed, no pesticides, they both lived primarily off their gardens. I'm in my 70s now, and wish I did the same. I'm healthy, but I can taste chemicals in store bought foods, definitely not my Mom's home grown. PS, so glad you will not grow bamboo. I think your bath design will turn out fine, never though I could put a deck and a concrete walk space between house and garage, but mentioned to a neighbor, and it turned out wonderful. I did do potatoes ONE YEAR, have to say every time I got one up, I laughed, it was like finding candy with every scoop. 😊
Question...because I have no idea of the base materials used in the tiles & steps. The tiles look like clay & stairs look to be marble....as you do the remodeling, you will create construction debris, which you will carry throughout the house on your shoes & clothing....for example, the tiny shards of tile & mortar.... do you need to use cardboard or some other material to protect your flooring?
Curious why all the bath fixtures are on the same wall. In Chicago we plant garlic in the fall, it grows a bit, then sits over winter and continues growing again in spring and is usually ready to harvest in June.
Maby it is cool! But in his last Q&A did he answered some questions. Also about the bathtub. Maybe you can look, beceause then you know why it is not possible to place th tub in front of the window 😊
Daarna laten drogen.
Oh my! Most people would love to have a bathroom with those dimensions! So why not a large 'walk-in' shower in the corner? It could be at least 2 - 2.5 metres wide and 1.5 metres deep, along the corner wall. Then, your bath can be used as an end wall, towards the window? And, if I may suggest, don't use wood in the bathroom, steamy moisture and wood don't make the greatest of companions! Can't wait to see how it turns out, good luck with it!
the black bug with white spots: Oxythyrea funesta/mourning roses beetle. spray with milk and water will kill many of those different kind of garden creatures
Going to be different. I like different!! The computer design will not be as good as the real thing. I look forward to seeing it all completed. Oh ,if your girlfriend is going to use that shower, I would consider putting some sort of can light in the ceiling makes is so much easier to clean lady parts and just generally better.. When my husband built our showers, I asked for this in mine as well as our daughter's showers. Works so much better showering in the light.. for anyone!
Having the bathtub face a wall, rather than a window where one could gaze upon the sky, seems like a missed opportunity. It also seems odd to have one’s back to the door. Will it be up to code?
I don't know what those beetles in your flowers are, but a lot of beetles use flowers as a sort of love hotel where they all go and get really freaky and promiscuous. It's cool or gross, depending on who you ask. They're just some real freaky insects in the natural world. There is also a number of insects and animals that eat parts of flowers in the world. It might be unfortunate for our eyes to see flower petals taken back like that, but it's their home and their food as much as it is ours. I have a flower garden in my front yard and I just let them have their dinner most of the time. The flowers always bounce back with regrowth. That's part of what makes them so interesting.
you're right, and im all for sharing the beautiful plants I have planted. just curious to learn how different plants and animals interact. it is magificent, I agree! thanks!

cleaning around open bathtubs like that can be challenging.
You. Ow have some lovely new potatoes enjoy
so sad to lose so much crop! All your hard work!! All those gnocchi you could make with the potatoes!!!!!
Very nice design! I don't think, from a strictly mechanical engineering standpoint, that a full tub atop wood would be safe!
There could be a platform that is solidly built and covered in marine varnish or tiled.
@@gloriasmestad3803 it's the weight of the tub full of water that is so heavy that the feet go deep into the wood base. It will no longer be level, since wood isn't the same strength at every point, which jeopardizes the drain seal. Trust me - #WoodNotGoodUnderTub
@@gloriasmestad3803 besides we're talking about 1500 lbs of tub & water, on 4 tiny legs pushing into a relatively soft surface.
@@brookestephen Maybe brick underlay with treated, finished wood (spar varnish?) for the visible portion?
You may like to put the bath in the middle of the room, you have a lovely big bathroom. Also put nets over your veg those are white cabbage butterfly's they will eat all your plants. Xxx
tip for garlic and tomato.5 gallon buckets .Make a hole in the bottom ,in the middle place the tomato plant in the hole ,fill the bucket with dirt and hang it up,Tomatoes will not rot and bear more fruit, Garlic fill the dirt half way and place the garlic sets ,,put more soil ,water and cover the top with plastic ,artificial greenhouse effect
Wow potatoes !!! Organics!!!!
Have fun
Start with beer on a plate and place in the garden. Hopefully it doesn’t rain again! In the morning hopefully you will have a plateful of bugs!
And slugs and snails!
Try it out, it can’t hurt. I hope this helps. Wishing you well from Nova Scotia..
Indiana folklore uses beer also. My gramps used this method and it worked.
fun video.
Now I see why you planted so much the extra is for all the little friend (bugs birds rabbit etc
Those baby potatoes are going to taste so good. Throw the blighted greens from the potatoes in the garbage not in your compost...ever.
Will you not isolate the bath before you get it plastered? Ik keeps the tub so much longer warm…
I cultivated many plants/trees/pineapples. but the plant should always be kept in a dark container for rooting
It’s your home make your own paradis
Hi, Sam!
Why not mix the styles?
Keep the terracotta floor, have classic tiles on the wall and modern appliances like sink ,bath tube ,toilet and add antique mirror, shelves…
Symmetrical disposition of everything- this is the classic style, no diagonal…
You will have the cosy old vibe over the villa and the comfort of the modern life
You have an email with ideas.
Put the glass on the bathtub side so you have a ledge in the shower for shampoo.
the cabbage moths are probably after moisture and minerals in the ginger pots.
Put the tub in front of the window a foot away. Or put it on the back corner Use pretty shiny plumbing We'll look a lot nicer..
Can't wait to see how it turns out, good luck with it!
my mother planted marigold flowers around the whole garden.they ward off critters and bugs
Not intending to be offensive so I apologize beforehand if I do,The bathtub looks odd the way you want to place it ,Im sorry ,,,oh goodness
the black bug with white spots: Oxythyrea funesta/mourning roses beetle.
spray with milk and water will kill many of those different kind of garden creatures
Cabbage White butterflies lay their eggs on brassicas, the eggs hatch and the caterpillars feast on the plant leaves.
Works so much better showering in the light.. for anyone!
Possibly ladybird lava
That's part of what makes them so interesting.
you're right, and im all for sharing the beautiful plants I have planted. just curious to learn how different plants and animals interact. it is magificent, I agree! thanks!
those insects look like asparagus beetles but they have some orange on them, maybe they are just young
