It’s hard to believe how many things you’ve worked on and accomplished in just five years, house, family, farm, job. You’ve made intentional, intelligent, and tasteful choices. Congratulations!
What you have done is nothing short of a miracle with your husband. This renovation is simple, charming, and has so much warmth/soul. The fact that you have accomplished this goal over time with eight children, and a business just blows me away!
I have an 1800s farmhouse too..I pulled back the carpets upstairs and its those dark, really wide plank floor boards. I cannot WAIT to get it shined up. I'd rather wear wool socks than have carpet. I love to see restoration in old homes. I feel like its a crime against humanity when people modernize😱
I like wall to wall in bedrooms so they can get down on a cozy floor. Plus it’s only one surface to clean. Living room I like a rly big rug so we can sit on floor too. Wall to wall is nice.
Kitchen dining halls foyers baths laundry staircases all of it needs bare floors for easy sweeping! I do have an anti fatigue mat at kitchen & stove tho.

I like the double for the girls, my oldest 2 slept in a double always. My youngest 2 have only quit at 16&18 becuz the 18yo is so vicious in her sleep. God help her future husband!
(My friend made a triple bunk for her 3 oldest girls and the kids all thought it was the best thing ever. The boys would beg to sleep in the top for treats! She ended up with an even dozen babies.
I never realized the fireplace wasn't real. Very cool! You are blessed to have a man that will go along with your dreams. 😊

I love how welcoming and cozy your home is. I also really like the direction you are currently taking. I think moving towards a victorian style suits the home and feels more authentic than modern farmhouse. I grew up with family homes like this and your home gives me nostalgia even though I haven’t ever been there.
You took a house and made it into a home. For me the best part is that it is far from perfect. Perfection is seldom attainable even with a couple of kids, never mind eight kids. So by not striving for perfection and having a "lived in" look, it is easier on everyone. Best to have a comfortable and workable home, than having it always magazine worthy and overly staged.

We had an 1892 farm house. We kept the woodwork natural and painted the walls really light so it wouldn’t be dark. I know you made the house your own when you painted the doors and someone will come along after you are gone and clean the paint off. The big value in our house was the stained natural woodwork.
I understand people tend to have strong opinions on woodwork. I dot regret our decision and I also believe in making our house our own while we live there...not with other potential owners in mind, but again that is a personal choice.
Such a wonderful creative partnership and marriage you have! I think I’ve been following you through your last three pregnancies. I think of all the great skills you have developed and your children have learned. If you ever open your guest house as an Air B& B I would dearly love to visit!💕

Your kitchen area and pantry are my favorite in all of RUclips makeovers. I’ve probably watched the different videos 20 times each gleaning so much inspiration.
I knew I couldn’t afford wallpaper like what you have on your stairwell, so I picked a similar paint color and a stencil and copied the pattern the best I could in my laundry room. A couple of children who were visiting said it was the prettiest room they’d ever seen. It was so cute!
You are my go to for inspiration. While I don’t live in an old farmhouse, I’m smitten my what you’ve done and am learning how copy it on a much smaller scale. Next is my pantry which is super small but with some paint and a few small touches, I know I can give it the same feel as what is so attractive about yours. So thank you Lisa.

We live in a 124 yr old farmhouse. The upstairs wood floors are painted. I have read that back then they used cheaper wood for 2nd stories and just painted them.

Wow, 5 years already. Your family has done really well bringing this home back to life. Such nice continuity from room to room, it's gorgeous!
My town has a number of historic districts that encompass a good bit of the original city borders. The brown paint is a real staple for some! Oak floors and even some pine floors are usually refinished; others are managed with paint and large rugs. I have sometimes seen living rooms or parlors with floors that have been designed to accommodate rugs out to about 1 to 2 feet from the walls. The architecture is incredible!
Along that line, I am so glad you reconstructed the side porch. That is very much like my grandparents' home I recall from visiting as a child.

Absolutely one of my favorite videos! You have brought this house drab to fab! You kept the updates to mimic the era but with a fresh look. I do want to mention something I feel is very important. The open flame candle near the curtained window is unsafe. This very thing started a fire in my nieces house. The curtain caught fire with a draft of wind and ignited the wall. Thankfully it was contained to that one room. Consider the realistic battery operated movable flame candles. Please do not take this as criticism. It is such a beautiful home and want you to be safe.

As you take us through the house tour, I see pieces that I remember you selecting, refinishing, shopping for or making. I think my favorite is your pantry. 🥰 I watch programs where young couples think everything should be move in ready and perfect. That’s sad because the journey together involves change all the time. I would be bored with a designer home with everything completed. We could all benefit from looking back on our lives and seeing the small, seemingly insignificant ways we have been blessed,only then realizing that we ARE truly blessed! I know no ones lives are perfect, but you truly have everything i hope and dream to have some day! Many beautiful children, acreage, garden, animals, old farmhouse, skills in the kitchen (sourdough, preserving, cheesemaking) etc... it is a dream that brings tears to my eyes. I live in an urban area and my husband and i dont make much money. I cant imagine this dream ever coming true for me, but i pray it does. But i also pray that even if it doesnt, i would find my contentment in Christ alone. God bless you. 🙏

Beautiful home Lisa, I also live in a 1900 victorian , we have the very dark reddish woodwork as well in most of the rooms. Im surprised you painted your woodwork. I'm in the market for an original marble bathroom sink with the high back, I think the older fixtures hold up so much better. GOD bless your family.
