  • Meet Phil Espositio. If you clicked this video, there’s a good chance you know who this player is. The NHL scumbag who traded his loyalty for a roll of the dice and a bottle of booze, all while betraying the trust of his family and fans. If you used to watch Ice hockey in the 60s, I’m sure you know who I’m talking about. Yes. The same guy who led Team Canada with his passionate speech after a crushing Game 4 loss in the 1972 Summit Series, hyping up both his teammates and fans while also ending up somehow cheating on his wife.#hockey

That speech changed the series for Canada and disagree with what you say about Phil back in his day fighting was part of the game and what he did off the ice is none of our business

I used to drink with Phil and later Tony back in the day in a bar north of Chicago. I had nothing but fun partying with half the Blackhawks team after our games had ended. Jim McMahon ended up buying that bar a long time later.

You do not plan on creating an addiction. Cocaine is a very affective substance. If Espo was addicted, he was one of thousands that fell into that trap. I watched him in Boston in the 60.s and 70’s. He was a great player and team captain. That is how I will remember him.
I do not know who put this video together but if it’s found out, you better not show your face in Boston. Why would anyone want to make something like this?

Espo is one of the greatest hockey players ever period. He was the leader of Team Canada 1972. Phil was the key of why Canada won that series. He was a goal scoring machine with the greatest player ever Bobby Orr.

I can't tell if this is tongue-in-cheek or a clickbait hit piece. Espo was one of the greatest players ever, and if he partied it up and banged a few hosebags, well good for him.

This was a man who wasn’t perfect, but he was a person. This is not cool to go this far, and how many times can you say “his wife”? All players back then for the most part spent the summers playing softball and having beers…that was training back then. My uncle used to play softball with him and Tony.
The only thing he did that I didn’t like was trying to sell the very team that his father and Bumbacco and such built…..The GreyHounds. The Central Park became that after it was Esposito park, and all due to the loyalty this town has for its hockey team. We turned it around and the team seems to be well adjusted, and managed now.
    This is absolute click bait.

Phil Esposito had the record for most points in one season and goals with 76 but not assists with 76 in 78 games for 152 points. It wasn't until a kid named Gretzky broke his record and Orr's assist record along with it about 10 years later that someone else had it.

What a piece of shyte hit job this is. Espo was a player that put every thing into every shift he played, The talk he gave at the end of game four of the Summit series , unified the players even more and fired up the Country . What went on with other teams he was involved with, is no different than what any other coach or manager would do. His personal life is not for any one else to judge.

Okay this video has at least 4 or 5 reasons to be reported which I gladly do. Phil was always a nemesis to my team the Flyers but I always respected him as one of the top sports icons of the 1970-s. Guys, if you fed up with this bullshit that this guy does join me and report this harmful and misleading clickbait.

  • @ronnieking9089

The narrative here is antagonistic and obviously from some one not well versed in hockey culture. Was he perfect, no. His cheating on his wife is almost a guarantee for any superstar athlete in any sport. Drinking is a societal norm for 98% of hockey players, cocaine not so much. You never even mention the emotional toll his daughters sudden death had on him. And those so called "garbage goals" came with consequences. Those being a boat load of slashes, cross checks and butt ends to stay affixed in the slot. Eddie Giacomin, the Rangers goalie during Esposito's heyday said something like this when people brought up Esposito's so called "garbage goals" he said, some guys couldn't shoot the puck in the ocean off a pier from the slot, meaning they couldn't keep their focus on getting off a shot on goal as they were being slashed, cross checked, or butt ended in the slot. And what nonsense is the creator of this NHL ICONS channel trying to sell about Espo's iconic CBC speech at Vancouver's Pacific Coliseum being on or about him, complete garbage from this creator of a channel supposedly steeped in hockey's legends. Know your subject and get your research straight, Phil Esposito flourished in the 70's not the 60's ! And please, no more intentional "hit job" retrospectives.

Video does not do Esposito justice. It is crap. You forgot to point out that he was very instrumental in the beginning of starting the Tampa Bay organization. A sucsseful franchise. You stopped the documentary at the point of his play with the New York Rangers. You are an anti Esposito person. Get off of YouTtube so we don’t have to watch your bias video that was pure crap.
