If I were to pinpoint when during my childhood I fell in love with the megane rs, it would definetly be during Vicky's review, totally love my 265. Proper beast with way more handling than power, awesome on twisty roads.
This is the first time I'm so intrigue by a car of that price range. The performance sounds great, the extirior is dare i say it beautiful. It doesn't look like a hatch back and the interior looks like something Porsche would put in their GT3 RS (colored seat belts, steering wheel center marker, the seats) Still can't believe it's that cheap! my god well done Renault.
You can't knock the car for quality, it's at a whole new level on this model. The interiors are soft plastics, there are no rattles, road noise is minimal (even with the optional 19" wheels). Drives like any other hatchback when Normal ESP is selected and then turns into an animal on Sport ESP growling and popping coming from the exhaust. Sweet!
Really excellent review. Well done. Love the gauge pkg on this model. All kinds of neat info. And your perspective is always appreciated. I hope you don't pay attention to the naysayers. Carry on.
@mattmopar440 may be they don't want too much torque steer as you would get alot somewhere over 200hp already. We don't get cobalt in europe, but I'm quite interested in its performance as I hear alot of things about it.
@moltress1925. most rs250 cups produce between 260-265bhp. the trophy 270. produces between 275-285 and got track tires. thats why it,s silly fast round nurburg.
beep cause its best to change gear according to the ecu. so be intrested to know if u take it around a lap changing when it wants u may have a faster time.
Great review Vicki. Sounds like this car is about high speed cornering. So many choices now in the hot hatch department. I wonder how this would compare to a stage 3 APR Mk5 GTI?
@sspope Hello ! The basic Megane RS 3 costs 29k € in France (38K $), the Luxe version costs 32K € (43K $). I don't add the duty fees from France to USA :D The LSD is an option not for the MS3, the Recaro seats and LSD are available if you take the chassis Cup (1400 € = 1800$). So your 24K is a sweet dream !
I love this gen megane so much esp the RS! It's even prettier than the current megane (pls, 3 door, renault!!) Even in miniature form is just as sweet!
. she told she doesnt need the beep limiter. but when she review the nissan 350z she says y cant they put a beep limiter? for me to hear it instead of a small red light
@MikeyS01 the gti is a great car, but i recently test drove a 2006 manual, and felt the gearbox and engine left much to be desired. it didn't feel as fast as i thought it would, and the gearchange was too artificial for my tastes. i'm in america, so i can't get a renaultsport, but i'd probably buy this if i could.
I had a Renault Megane coupe a few years ago,the reliability was poor back then.... but it was my favourite car ever despite the reliability issues,I wish that I could buy Renault Megane RS 250 if I had the money :-(
I've owned one of these (250 cup like the one being driven, albeit with the 19" alloys and a few other bells and whistles because it's the '11 model) for a year now, and it really is the best car I've had the pleasure of driving thus far... in terms of power delivery and handling, that is. For fun, though? RS Twingo all the way!
Honestly? I don't even notice it until I have other people in the car with me, at which points the complaints come in thick and fast. I like to feel the road, so I have been perfectly happy with it. It's definitely stiff, mind... and I have to concede that speed bumps and pot holes are a bit of a bastard! Not long ago I drove over 600 miles in one day, and save for a bit of a dead leg at one point, I was perfectly comfortable throughout.
amapolishplummer No mods to the Twingo, no. Overall, I much preferred the Twingo - it's easily the most fun I've ever had on 4 wheels. The Megane is a superb car, mind. You can't go wrong either way really.
Paul Jackson Does the Twingo sound any good? I know the Megane with the silencer taken out pops and crackles like mad but with the Twingo only being a 1.6 NA can't think it sounds that great. But to be fair my Seat Ibiza 1.4 was had a sweet raspy roar just was super quiet.
VBH this is what 5th Gear needs more of most of the time. as for the car , well i'm not a fan of Renault but i do like this lil` car. i'd like it a lot more with another 100hp. TQ steer blah control it with the go pedal. 5th GEAR HOW ABOUT SOME FULL LENGTH EPISODES ? small clips are so 6 years ago.
@Syakir2004 Funny thing is if you look at the RenaultSport Monitor they show in the clip, the warning buzzer is set to 0 rpm which means it will sound exactly on the redline. And the very next gear change she hits the limiter LOL. What happened to your ears Vicki? Still think she's hot though! ;-) And they are a great car.
BUT ENGINE is made of that good stuff. My Ep3 type R with Bolt ons approx 250-255 bhp down some twists let's see which is fast more reliable and more fun.
@danny200878 Not only Renault Sport World Champion 2010 in F1 with Red Bull Renault & its Engine ^^ it is actually a French Rules in the main Races cars World championships ^^ Because don't forget Peugeot with the Peugeot 906 World Champion 2010 in Le Mans Series and Citroën World Champion 2010 in the WRC with the C4 WRC^^
correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Nissan own a stake in Renault, if so, why can't the bring this car over to the States and market it as a the next Sentra, or a ToyoBarru/Focus ST fighter, or just bring it over period. I would buy it, I'm sure many of us Yanks would, this thing is awesome...
@AMVDawg Yeah it changed today again a bit, a bit better... but some bug on the main page... Nothink happens if i press on the "X" on my subscriptions... ohh well... >.>
Do your homework, please. Quoting from Wikipedia: "Bugatti was founded in Molsheim, France as a manufacturer of high performance automobiles by Ettore Bugatti" Yes, they are owned by VW, but they are still French. And I don't argue that many of current French models are not "awesome", but I object to your generalization.
@mishocker Bugatti French??? You must be joking... After all Bugatti IS VW concern, so my friend it is in fact German! I have no idea where could you possibly get that information. French cars are made to break down so they can make more money on servicing than the full sales value. French manufacturers calculate the lifespan of each individual part so it doesen't last too long.
I just don't get why people tend to blast French cars all the way, obviously forgetting in the process that the manufacturer of some of the most magnificent cars around here - Bugatti - is also French?
Renault make the best handling hot hatches. there is no arguement against this. it is fact. i am by no means saying that they are the one you should buy though. there is more to a daily hot hatch than just performance. depends what floats your boat.
the chevy cobat ss turbo beat an evo and the is f and some other cars around a track in Virginia on this video...i wish we got cool french cars in america
I think this car, especially in white, looks like a sports trainer shoe. Quite sleek, but the rear window in minute and the boot opening is very impractical. Stylish but not very practical for a hatch.
@chaosmonkey79 I know right?! I also think the Focus has a hint of 'Chav' to it, bright green with huge flared wheelarches, twin massive exhausts. The Megane looks civilized you know? I think its pretty damned gorgeous too! And I think the interior of the Ford is dreary, boring, needs updating badly. AND the Ford is too expensive!!!! Renault all the way. I own a Megane, I love it!
I still have one. Absolutely love it.
3:34 - i dont need to listen for a beep to tell me to change gear.
3:45 - hit rev limiter lol
Why is the beep a problem ? The car has the RS monitor, so under setting the beep RPM can be changed or turned off all together.
I loved the beep sound on my 250 cup. Wish my honda fk2 type r had it
If I were to pinpoint when during my childhood I fell in love with the megane rs, it would definetly be during Vicky's review, totally love my 265. Proper beast with way more handling than power, awesome on twisty roads.
great renault sport car. i have a renault 5 gt turbo of 1991 and still drive me crazy when i take it for a ride great car
Am I the only person who likes the beep?!
yes
The beeps helps a lot on track, she's just being a blonde bimbo.😘
I'VE HAD my car mapped to have a shift light 😂
This is the first time I'm so intrigue by a car of that price range. The performance sounds great, the extirior is dare i say it beautiful. It doesn't look like a hatch back and the interior looks like something Porsche would put in their GT3 RS (colored seat belts, steering wheel center marker, the seats) Still can't believe it's that cheap! my god well done Renault.
Limited slip differential is not only in the Cup version, Vicky.
Carry on.
Yes but do you still have to take the front wheel off to replace the headlight bulb?
I liked the Clio Williams when I first saw it! Tiff said it was a dream to drive. I wish we could get it in America!
@bele77 how is it? when its better than a focus rs and every other hot hatch out there, except the clio.
it looks really good too
I bought a 2012 RS 250 CUP today! Lucky me.
say what you want about the french, but they do know how 2 make hot hatches! This is my new favourite
@mattmopar440
may be they don't want too much torque steer as you would get alot somewhere over 200hp already. We don't get cobalt in europe, but I'm quite interested in its performance as I hear alot of things about it.
These are great videos, fifth gear is fantastic.
It may be French, but it feels like a German car inside. Very solid.
Congratulations dude ! Very very nice choice! Greetings from Italy
@moltress1925. most rs250 cups produce between 260-265bhp. the trophy 270. produces between 275-285 and got track tires. thats why it,s silly fast round nurburg.
@Olaf16 you can always use the old one
beep cause its best to change gear according to the ecu. so be intrested to know if u take it around a lap changing when it wants u may have a faster time.
Great car, i got 263 bhp (standard) using BP Ultimate 97 ron. mabee get more with Shell V-power?
What the best chassis to drive on normal road? Cup of Sport?
@straped Because the dials are the same in the left and right hand versions, and in most of the world people drive on right side of the road :D
You can set it to beep on the limiter or up to 2000rpm before the limiter in 50rpm increments. Any other questions, just ask :o)
Great review Vicki. Sounds like this car is about high speed cornering. So many choices now in the hot hatch department. I wonder how this would compare to a stage 3 APR Mk5 GTI?

No wonder it's bleeping 1000rpm in to redline.
Vicki, Tiff and Chris Harris should be the only people allowed to review cars.
@santclause1 ehm the 250 means 250hp and the 270 means 270 hp
@Lenny66692 LOL. Is that sufficient answer?
this car made her happy, it is the first film where I see her a bit excited
The car makes 247bhp in test conditions but like all turbo cars if you feed it nice cold dense air on a cold day it will make more!
I had a Renault Megane coupe a few years ago,the reliability was poor back then.... but it was my favourite car ever despite the reliability issues,I wish that I could buy Renault Megane RS 250 if I had the money :-(
Renault still does the beep shift stuff? I still like this car though.
I love this car!
The beep can be turned off love
looks nice, dont think australia will have it for sale
I've owned one of these (250 cup like the one being driven, albeit with the 19" alloys and a few other bells and whistles because it's the '11 model) for a year now, and it really is the best car I've had the pleasure of driving thus far... in terms of power delivery and handling, that is.
For fun, though?
RS Twingo all the way!
+Paul Jackson How has the suspension been to live with on a daily basis? Alot of people tell me it's way too stiff/firm to live with on bumpy roads.
Any mods to your Twingo? And also do you prefer the Twingo over the Megane overall?
amapolishplummer No mods to the Twingo, no. Overall, I much preferred the Twingo - it's easily the most fun I've ever had on 4 wheels.
The Megane is a superb car, mind. You can't go wrong either way really.

In Bosnia the cup version costs 2500 euros and you get aircon. And the base price of the car is 22.000 euros. :D
you can turn the beep off? why would it be a problem lol. get the control panel out! :)
@TheNickko11 Why not? ... wicked fun
First and best car i bought all on my own!
just stunning x2
@aerorobnz tahnks for clearing it up...
@moltress1925 driver?
I would soooooo buy one of these if they were sold in the states...come on Renault please please please ...
@derbigpr500 this is true, autocar dyno this and the FRS and they both put around 270hp!
This is still road car that is super fast on track. And you will be driving in 90% of time on road and 10% on track
@hishonline u have a logan not a megane rs you don't have almost 300hp...
Getting one soon after 10 years+ now...
in Australia the cup gets air con.
I watch this video only for Vichy
Did she say 4WD??
1:12 - The predecessor isn't the 225 its the 230 F1 Team R26 Vicky!
a very attractive package, has that Scirocco rear
@chaosmonkey79 And is also built to perfection, unlike the Honda which feels like its made of TicTac boxes inside.
BUT ENGINE is made of that good stuff. My Ep3 type R with Bolt ons approx 250-255 bhp down some twists let's see which is fast more reliable and more fun.
Golf R is not a car made for the track, you can't deactivate ESP on it, that means u can't even slide it sideways.
And by the way...this car doesnt have 250 hp, it has about 272 on dyno.
i love that car sadly in my country renault doesnt sell not even the normal version dammmm
@danny200878
Not only Renault Sport World Champion 2010 in F1 with Red Bull Renault & its Engine ^^
it is actually a French Rules in the main Races cars World championships ^^
Because don't forget Peugeot with the Peugeot 906 World Champion 2010 in Le Mans Series
and
Citroën World Champion 2010 in the WRC with the C4 WRC^^
Try wearing a helmet and having a straight pipes K20A or 4g93 Mivec screaming beside you..then tell me if you can hear the engine revs!
she knows what she's doing, she's been a motoring journalist for years and can probably trash most men on a track
correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Nissan own a stake in Renault, if so, why can't the bring this car over to the States and market it as a the next Sentra, or a ToyoBarru/Focus ST fighter, or just bring it over period. I would buy it, I'm sure many of us Yanks would, this thing is awesome...
I would much rather have this renault than a golf gti but too bad they dont sell these in the states.
when it comes to hot hatches, the french always know what they are doing
@AMVDawg
Yeah it changed today again a bit, a bit better... but some bug on the main page... Nothink happens if i press on the "X" on my subscriptions... ohh well... >.>
Best hot hatch sounds nice. :p
It is, and a funny shape. Cant find anymore faults though so far !
My fave is hot hatch is the scirocco R
Nice machine; will we ever see a similar machine in North America under the Nissan name plate?
I doubt it!
Post a video to show me how an experienced driver should drive please.
the sound of the shift-up
I thought REN-O was a shorter way of saying REN-ULT
the rear look amazing..but the front is a bit dulll
Mini Cooper S JCW is also something to consider.
Just putting it out there! :)

@bele77 some "sport" car which is better than a focus RS
I just don't get why people tend to blast French cars all the way, obviously forgetting in the process that the manufacturer of some of the most magnificent cars around here - Bugatti - is also French?
you dont have to accelerate like having a Skyline dude..Front wheel drive is really more predictable I think..I personally do prefer FWD against RWD.
Renault make the best handling hot hatches. there is no arguement against this. it is fact. i am by no means saying that they are the one you should buy though. there is more to a daily hot hatch than just performance. depends what floats your boat.
I'm considering swapping my Civic Type R for Megane RS250.. I need to test drive one
Sasa Jungic you have had 6 years to decide , did you buy one ?
@shifttradition
jajaja yea i love vicky´s reviews
the chevy cobat ss turbo beat an evo and the is f and some other cars around a track in Virginia
on this video...i wish we got cool french cars in america
@akumadriver focus rs is
the car looks great its a shame its only have 247hp if it was over 300hp it will be nice esp since its a light car
I think this car, especially in white, looks like a sports trainer shoe.
Quite sleek, but the rear window in minute and the boot opening is very impractical. Stylish but not very practical for a hatch.
I like it! The Renault isn't bad either
@TaBoca43 It's cheaper than MazdaSpeed 3 and poeple in US buy MS3 a lot. This would be more like 24k in US.
Yes it is!!
how much horsepower does this car have , they should bring this to the us its not fair USA doesent get all cars that europeans get .
@chaosmonkey79 I know right?!
I also think the Focus has a hint of 'Chav' to it, bright green with huge flared wheelarches, twin massive exhausts.
