I love the arguing about mapping the ford then trying it - What people are missing is the Ford is known for being the fastest hatch out there, by spending 10k less you can buy a megane RS, map it and it'll be quicker. That's why it's impressive, it's not a £400 increase for the ford but at least 10k extra + the £400 map. You're comparing 2 of the best hot hatches with a massive price difference, only £400 to be better than the best makes it a no brainer.

I reckon it's only when you file a claim, they might argue that you fail to inform them of the upgrade itself, and thus they might not pay out based on that
TextuReProGameR If you wanna straight pipe it or like go to a steel induction... small stuff you should be ok. Renault would not mind and most likely keep your warranty intact. But remaps, decats... etc No Car company would let the warranty stand then.
so this is a faster version of a megan and it beats the focus by what 0.07 was it? Now the focus rs500 which is 50 bhp more than the focus and the quarter mile is about 0.4 seconds faster, i would like to see an rs500 vs a superchips megane. agreed?
A remap alone for the mk2 RS usually means about 340bhp and just a preposterous amount of torque like 350lb/ft plus. The Megane is a really nice car and you want to map them but you want to map the Focus as well. Considering you have paid the extra for the Focus you should probably pay the extra to have it mapped, which would demolish the Megane again. I have owned a lot of mapped cars now and it's virtually always a no brainer. You can gain quite a lot of performance for relatively little cash as long as the car has forced induction. Case in point is the Audi S4 B8. You can easily gain like 70bhp with just a remap. Makes it a 400bhp+ monster that does 0-60 in very low 4s. You simply have to remap it if you have one.
It,s ok mapping the focus RS. but it,s shit in the twisties with 300bhp. what do you think it gonna be like when you can go faster in a straight line? brake even earlier or end up in an edge bottom. best thing to do with focus RS is lighten it. and sort out the suspension. 300bhp is plenty if you know how to use it. any moron can drive fast in a straight line with 400bhp.
santclause1 An RS is shit in the twisties? Have you even driven one? It's a limpet. It has so much front end grip and the point is, it works in the real world. It's comfortable and usable too. It's probably a bit too heavy, but that is the nature of the mark 2 focus anyway. The 5 cylinder engine is just brilliant and worth the extra weight for the sound alone. It's pretty amazing how well sorted and hilarious it is to drive on a B road. I would map the Megane, but I would map the Focus as well. It's chassis easily deals with the extra power no sweat.
vulcanproject Yes i have driven one. and you obviously haven,t driven one hard enough to say it has so much front end grip. but maybe it,s just me. because i,m used to my Renaultsport. personally your sat way to high. and it understeers way too much. yes you can play with the lift off oversteer but thats not fast. that just hides an ok chassis rather than a great one. yes the sound is nice but all Volvo 5 cylinders sound lovely. but that alone isn,t enough to warrant buying one. especially when Renaultsport do it better for cheaper. Also for 10k people are better off picking up mazda 3 MPS. underpinnings are the same as focus. just tuned diffrent.
You're not wrong on power gains.. Mine is at 315bhp and 370 lb/ft (map, catback exhaust and panel filter) Chassis can easily take it and more and I am fully confident that mine could leave a standard and mapped Focus RS for dead. The torque steer alone in the Focus is likely to kill the driver anyway! (Yes, I've driven one)
steerj07 There is extremely little torque steer on an RS. On a stock one if you accelerate in a straight line you can feel it, but otherwise it's damped out incredibly well and this is why the RS handles even more power and torque fairly easily. The Volvo engine is immensely strong, which explains why there are so many stock turbo 400BHP+ 450lb/ft+ examples around. It makes a beautiful sound again difficult to replicate in the Renault. Both have their strengths, but if you are into tuning beyond a little map or so the Focus is probably the better bet.
@stevesikora97 1a) ?? Before the remap of the Megane 3 RS (MRS3), it had 60hp less than the Focus RS... Thus where is the objectivity to do a run like that between 2 cars with 60hp of differences??!! Here the MRS3 have 300HP the same power of the Focus RS & we can to see with more objectivity who is the best in the same level of power engine!
Wezzerm holy smokes (I’m not in the UK). If the car was mapped how would insurance even know? I mean, if 10 yr old cars are involved in accidents are the insurers going to front up every time with OBD devices to download and analyse calibration values?
I agree on the drivers capability, but lets not forget that the megane beats the focus around the Nurburgring stock vs stock. Certain aspects of the focus i like, but i cant ignore the megane and it shall be my next car :D
Both fantastic cars! There is a problem though. The driver of the French car is the one saying 'go' and via a radio. This will add crucial milliseconds onto the RS drivers reaction time but shave milliseconds off of his own. Could easily be worth a quarter second! I'd be interested to know the limits in the Megane engine and whether the tune is actually safe! The RS is built like a tank of course but if Renault warranty is affected perhaps they don't trust it! Mountune is the Ford tune of choice and warranty (up to a point) remains intact. I'd have both cars though. Love them!
Try a Fiat coupe 20 valve turbo. Can be bought for less than £1500 and with a £270 remap to 260 bhp, would be quicker than both these cars being so much lighter!
jonscoupe can also buy a £20 gtec chip for it which takes it to 250/260 but i'd spend a bit more and get a hybrid turbo for a safe 300bhp= mega 3rd gear 50-100mph fun.
renault its the only brand which take f1 with its body and engine, the ather two is merc and ferari, but i think they are rubish too, take lessons from citroen at wrc

Elle marche bien la m3rs, un bon stage 1 fait largement l'affaire, amplement suffisant pour une traction, j'adore la focus rs mk2 mais elle est très cher et pas forcément plus fiable que la mégane
I've always loved Renaults. When I was little I had a toy Clio sport, but had my dreams crushed when I found out they don't sell Renaults in America...
Some people have put the RS on the rolling road and got 280 bhp, maybe this one is down in power a bit. I've also seen some making 315 bhp on the rolling road.
My friend.... My opinion is that the 300 factory horses of ford focus are better.the driver didnt you them correct i thing. and not to mention that ''how long will handle the remap pushing it all the time in a track'' or every day at work
lloyd dixon have fun with.. Terrible quality Bad body work Unreliable engine Shit engine sound compared with an Rs Loads of Renault Megane rally history, oh wait.. What does RS even stand for on the Megane? "Really Shit" by any chance? And a Renault badge..
lloyd dixon Ive owned the MK1 Focus RS, and clio 172/182 and to be fair the reputation of cheap and flimsy is fairly accurate on the older renaults. I really like the new megane though and sitting one you can tell reanult has worked hard on upgrading the quality of the interior. Just wondering if you have had any problems with your at all? You can buy a good Megane RS for 12k now which is around 6k cheaper than a budget RS. I dont think the MK2 RS looks as good as the mk1 in my opinion and its worth noting the engine is always shy of 300bhp, probably need a remap to make the claimed 300bhp lol. But driving the mk1 it always felt special while driving it, the boost was strong and felt like an aggressive car which is why im still torn
While French hatchbacks have better cornering ability than most cars - Never mock the Focus chassis as it's better than most people think & The Revo Knuckle will pull the RS out of the corners better than The Megane could ever hope to do, but then again it all depends on the driver's capability anyway.
@matthewruss different approaches to different cars though, you would have to mod the shit out of the RS to get it round corners like a Megane, which costs ALOT more then tuning the engine
Quick re-map in the Focus and away it goes. The megane is a seriously good car but with an extra 500cc in the focus and the meganes lump being pretty unexciting (quite a limited cylinder head design) comparing the two in a straight line is as stupid as comparing them in corners!
like was said before, they are comparing a megane rs tuned, if you dont afford a focus if you can buy a focus rs good for you and tuned, even better. But for the renault money you dont buy a ford, 10k its a huge diference. Great cars
@mattsnell89 Since 2005, Renault has adopted a program for improve the quality and reliability. Now you can see in de ADAC Pannenstatistik inform, how the new Renault models, are in the top of reliability. The results of this program called CONTRACT, are very brilliant.
I have an RS it's awesome you always remap it I have already done so and supercharged the engine it's awesome what you can do to cars these days it has a monster energy paint kit a carbon fibre wing and a sport pack only cost about £35,000 I don't dislike Renault but ford are more popular especially the focus zetec it's everywhere
@MrAlastair10 Back tracking much. You originally said "I have an RS it's awesome you always remap it I have already done so and supercharged the engine it's awesome" - that would suggest that YOU supercharged it. Anyway, I did as you suggested and on the first page, guess how many supercharged RS's I found? None, zilch, not a single one. So it can't be that clear ... I look forward to the video - with modern day phones etc I don't envisage taking more than a couple of hours to take a video.
Megane won by the narrowest of margins, everywhere else we call that a car length, that's with loads of wheelspin and Mat Watson who notoriously cannot drive manual, even to this day on CarWow
megane rs as standard produces up to 280 hp, not only 250 as claimed, this makes it as powerful as focus rs which has less then claimed, again around 280 hp. Thus, megane here has 40 hp advantage over focus and wins.
most of fords have 280 hp on dynos, not all, but most of them do, you are lucky to get more power, but it's a fact that they generally lie about amount of power which is shame
This is not a pointless comparison at all. The main point of this video is to show the differences between the mapped and stock Megane RS.....YES?? Then the guy even says, that the map gives the megane the same power as the Focus RS, They then a have a bit of fun and the Renault comes out on top. This video is not measuring the megane and the focus, just saying that for a few hundred pounds, you can have something faster than the RS.
so pay the extra 400 for a superchip for an extra .6 of a second? and a standard rs is quicker than the standard megane, im sorry byut 400 seems a lot for so little time loss
Hand on heart the new civic type R would destroy both cars lol yes! I'm a big honda fanboy. But if I had to pick it has to be the megane, because it reminds me of my first hot hatch I ever owned...the renault 5 gt turbo. Not in looks or anything just the charm renault hot hatches have. Maybe I really have a soft spot for racy renault's. Don't get me wrong, the RS is an awesome car in all departments.
Alan Ton Megane RS is like... 5 years old? Which means... A LOT in the "car world". The new Renault Megane RS in 2016 will obliterate Type R on the Nurburgring... just as THIS one obliterated EVERY other Type R.
Eazy E you can't really compare this rs to the fn2 or ep3 because both are NA and the rs is running boost. If you put a big fat blower on the k20 I don't think it would stand a chance. Sorry.
Alan Ton" Hand on heart the new civic type R would destroy both cars lol yes! I'm a big honda fanboy." I'm talking about stock cars. You're comparing newest car to an old car, what's the point? Which difference is bigger 1 year or 5 years? Of course 5 years, so wait a year more for the new Megane RS and you'll see.
It's well known early examples were only producing around 270 bhp on dyno runs & not 305 as first thought = do your research !!! The original debate concerned a Focus RS getting tuned ( as the renault was in this video ) = The Revo Knuckle is designed to take the extra torque produced by the RS power unit & turn it into traction. Clio doesn't need torque due to it's lightness/ flimsy build. Why you're on about standard cars - you only know ??? Ranault Fanboy :D
all of your arguments for the RS ignore the fact that a brand new megane is 20k and a brand new rs is 25k. for that extra 5k you could make that meganne leave a focus for dead. or you could enjoy knowing your car handles better, and laugh at rs drivers as anyone can drive quick in a straight line, skill comes into it when your in the bends!
The focus rs is 10.000 euro's more expensive. Ok, its faster. But not 10.000 euro's faster. This is just a realy good option to do. And the megane is price-performance wise (and fun) the best hot hatch in U.S. and Europa. So why would you spend 10.000 euro's more for the ford? On the "ring" the trophy is almost 19 seconds faster. And only 7 seconds slower than the focus Rs500?!? (rs500 is 10.000 more than teh normale focus rs and 20.000 more than the megane rs?!? It is the best option i think...
Focus RS Ring time was with a 2009 car ( Approx 30bhp down on later models ) & a later model could make the times closer than they are ! Day to day driving on the roads - there's fuck all between them. Sarcasm is said to be the lowest form of conversation, So i'll leave you to chat to yourself on that one.
yeah right...lets talk about price difference and bang for buck, or maybe compare the lap times on the' Ring where the Megane holds the fwd record and the Focus is 19 seconds slower. where the RS does beat the Megane is in torque steer but thats not a competition you really want to win lol.
WE DONT NO WHAT CONDITION CARS WAS WHAT FUEL TEI USE AND DIRES OR UPGRADES and drivers is different . focus not bad driver but finis is not good some error and what conditions dires is and full tank or something else
@carpetmonstero true say, almost everyone who has focus rs has it remaped buy saying that doesnt mean megane is shit for the money i think its great and but it doesnt stand a chance againt rs.
Not really fair to compare a tuned car to a stock. The Focus RS has had many, many parts upgraded from the ST to handle the power & torque in order for it to be reliable on not just the street, but primarily on the track. A tuned car is the opposite, becoming more unreliable (anyone whom thinks otherwise is daft - car manufacturers don't invest extra money to make their components any better than they absolutely have to be at stock levels to save on expenditure). Focus for me anyday.
now do a remap to the focus RS and do the run again the result will dont be the same (focus will have nearly 340hp) 300hp remap are not the same thing that 300 hp stock

I reckon it's only when you file a claim, they might argue that you fail to inform them of the upgrade itself, and thus they might not pay out based on that
Yes they can run a diagnostic its very easy to find out.

How ?? If your getting your "Renault" for example on a dyno and tuning it a small bit lets say 20bhp how will anyone ever find out ?
TextuReProGameR If you wanna straight pipe it or like go to a steel induction... small stuff you should be ok. Renault would not mind and most likely keep your warranty intact. But remaps, decats... etc
No Car company would let the warranty stand then.
So my brand new Yaris GRMN and Is quicker than a Focus RS in the 1/4 mile and it's only costing me £109 a month.....I win.
And how much more have you pay'd for the Ford
LtheYak ?
so this is a faster version of a megan and it beats the focus by what 0.07 was it?
Mine is at 315bhp and 370 lb/ft (map, catback exhaust and panel filter)
Chassis can easily take it and more and I am fully confident that mine could leave a standard and mapped Focus RS for dead.
@smithy855 I found it a good comparo, but I agree that if you went and got a mountune or puma speed tune on the RS, it would walk all over the Megane.
@stevesikora97

Before the remap of the Megane 3 RS (MRS3), it had 60hp less than the Focus RS...
Thus where is the objectivity to do a run like that between 2 cars with 60hp of differences??!!
Here the MRS3 have 300HP the same power of the Focus RS & we can to see with more objectivity who is the best in the same level of power engine!
hi guys how can I find this chips
@dangerousdeano the renault was pulling away in 4th gear mate..just sayin
ya but if the focus is one from the first yea of production, it only has around 250 at the flywheel the later models have closer to the 300
Then don't forget to factor in the £1989 insurance premium increase
Can be bought for less than £1500 and with a £270 remap to 260 bhp, would be quicker than both these cars being so much lighter!
jonscoupe can also buy a £20 gtec chip for it which takes it to 250/260 but i'd spend a bit more and get a hybrid turbo for a safe 300bhp= mega 3rd gear 50-100mph fun.
for a drivers car the megane is light years ahead...dont believe me? go out and test drive them back to back!!!!
renault its the only brand which take f1 with its body and engine, the ather two is merc and ferari, but i think they are rubish too, take lessons from citroen at wrc
RS🔥
I've always loved Renaults. When I was little I had a toy Clio sport, but had my dreams crushed when I found out they don't sell Renaults in America...
Some people have put the RS on the rolling road and got 280 bhp, maybe this one is down in power a bit. I've also seen some making 315 bhp on the rolling road.
My friend.... My opinion is that the 300 factory horses of ford focus are better.the driver didnt you them correct i thing.
and not to mention that ''how long will handle the remap pushing it all the time in a track'' or every day at work
Cuantos Hp alcanzó el Megane con el chip?
300hp
Put a remap on the focus and let's see the outcome
I've just bought a 2016 275 RS definitely getting it mapped for pound for pound unbelievable car 😅
I wonder why they never put the chip on the RS? Maybe because it'd of pummelled the megane!
lloyd dixon have fun with..
Terrible quality
Bad body work
Unreliable engine
Shit engine sound compared with an Rs
Loads of Renault Megane rally history, oh wait..
What does RS even stand for on the Megane? "Really Shit" by any chance?
And a Renault badge..
Tyler Ainsworth But to be fair the Megane is a pretty good track car.
lloyd dixon
Ive owned the MK1 Focus RS, and clio 172/182 and to be fair the reputation of cheap and flimsy is fairly accurate on the older renaults.
But driving the mk1 it always felt special while driving it, the boost was strong and felt like an aggressive car which is why im still torn
wich the same driver? i dont think so.
@TheHendricks34 Its too dark outside i cant get a good video, Ive got some pics tho
While French hatchbacks have better cornering ability than most cars - Never mock the Focus chassis as it's better than most people think & The Revo Knuckle will pull the RS out of the corners better than The Megane could ever hope to do, but then again it all depends on the driver's capability anyway.
What if i get my focus RS upgraded as well? Where is ur god now?
for your info the Renault Megane RS265 won against the Nissan Z370 (which is not 2.0 or even 2.5, but 3.7L engine!)
It sounds epic, faster than a focus rs in gear.....until mr focus spends the same £400 on a dream science map
YOU TOOK THE WORDS OUT MY MOUTH !
megane rs is not stock
Power ! No shit it says it in the video
Renault megane 👍🏆
Focus RS 500 Monster !
When first released some focus rs only produced around 280bhp so the outcome is unsurprising
tim brownridge true my friend bought his focus rs brand new after a year or 2 he put it on the dyno ... only to see he only had 273 hp
There is one thing that kills megane. Focus RS sounds like a beast while megane like a slightly tuned 4-banger...
c'est marqué dans la description elle a ete reprogrammée a 300 chevaux c est donc pour ça ....
Don't forget that the Megane is powerchiped, the Focus is stock.
If the focus was powerschiped also, the megano would cry. :P
Well every car is different, so you can't really generalize like that.
difference is max 10bhp so i can generalize like that in this case
CroGamer1 Then how do you explain how I can own one which has got 308 hp?
most of fords have 280 hp on dynos, not all, but most of them do, you are lucky to get more power, but it's a fact that they generally lie about amount of power which is shame
CroGamer1 Yeah if that is the case I agree. Maybe it differs based on what kind of petrol you use as well.
focus looks better, better built sounds 10 x better and is a 2.5 torque is so important these days, reasons why i bought the ford
Thing about ford is that it should have been an AWD or RWD it just doesnt put power down quick enough
This is not a pointless comparison at all. The main point of this video is to show the differences between the mapped and stock Megane RS.....YES?? Then the guy even says, that the map gives the megane the same power as the Focus RS, They then a have a bit of fun and the Renault comes out on top. This video is not measuring the megane and the focus, just saying that for a few hundred pounds, you can have something faster than the RS.
a stock 265 trophy will still beat a stock focus rs on the drag strip and will make the focus spew around a track.
You miss the start. If you have a good start the distance is evan bigger.
Um like you said that renault is the upgraded version no wonder why it won try it againg the updated focus the focus rs500!
Matt's been drag racing longer than Dominic Torreto lol.
so pay the extra 400 for a superchip for an extra .6 of a second? and a standard rs is quicker than the standard megane, im sorry byut 400 seems a lot for so little time loss
Eazy E haha. Well just have to wait and see.
Eazy E you can't really compare this rs to the fn2 or ep3 because both are NA and the rs is running boost.
If you put a big fat blower on the k20 I don't think it would stand a chance. Sorry.
Alan Ton"
Hand on heart the new civic type R would destroy both cars lol yes! I'm a big honda fanboy." I'm talking about stock cars. You're comparing newest car to an old car, what's the point? Which difference is bigger 1 year or 5 years? Of course 5 years, so wait a year more for the new Megane RS and you'll see.
Actually +50hp should ve made more difference..
@Fisherdaz1 you dont need to.focus is already more expensive :) thats the point :)
all of your arguments for the RS ignore the fact that a brand new megane is 20k and a brand new rs is 25k. for that extra 5k you could make that meganne leave a focus for dead. or you could enjoy knowing your car handles better, and laugh at rs drivers as anyone can drive quick in a straight line, skill comes into it when your in the bends!
2.0 T (orig. 250HP) vs. 2.5T (306 HP) yes it's not a fair test:D
WE DONT NO WHAT CONDITION CARS WAS WHAT FUEL TEI USE AND DIRES OR UPGRADES and drivers is different .
focus not bad driver but finis is not good some error and what conditions dires is and full tank or something else
All 3 take over 14 seconds to do a quarter mile lol.
@TheHendricks34 I dont have renault, i have the focus rs
you can see the format for carwow begging to come together in this video :)
Focus for me anyday.
now do a remap to the focus RS and do the run again the result will dont be the same (focus will have nearly 340hp)
300hp remap are not the same thing that 300 hp stock
Yep and remap the focus & the focus would easily pull away
gee wiz jack parow is into cars now!!!
ok fair enough, now Remap the RS. Comparing a modded car to a standard car just isnt fair period.
