Man I love the RT, have the 18' model with the Nav VI and its issues :(. But this technology really seems to be getting in the way of enjoying the scenery as you ride. Seems like you spend about 80-90% of your time managing the electronics and then 90% of the remaining time ensuring road safety, leaving about 2% of the time to enjoy that gorgeous German countryside. I be sticking with my round dial 18' for a few more years at least. Good video though.

Hi . I really enjoyed this episode. I also have a 2021 r1250rt. I have really learnt a lot. I never miss an episode . I'm from Australia 🇦🇺 and enjoy riding the motorbike. The only problem I had with the bike was the lid for the charging compartment not opening. Love the Scenery that you ride. I hope to come overseas one day. Keep up the great work 👍.

I really appreciate your taking up wifi nav technology. Most reviewers spend no time on it, just repeating marketing claims. I don’t see this technology becoming practical any time soon and am skeptical of paying for multimedia and TFT features.

Hello Scott. Let me be the first one to comment on this new video. Thank you very much for this information. I ordered my bike (JUST LIKE YOURS) 1/6/22 and it was delivered to me here in the Chicago area on 4/6/22. I just went out to the garage to check the software version, and it is the 2022 Spring version 012008040! I have about 160 miles on it now after taking it on the maiden voyage up to Wisconsin last weekend. Would you tell me what option you have for your number three button to show the full map version? I had troubles displaying that on my trip (Due to my inexperience with the system) even though I was able to get the turn by turn to show on the right side. Other than that the navigation worked perfectly for me too. Please provide more videos on THIS bike as they are what I am interested in, as your subscriber. Thank you and ride safe. 😊

And finally, new software update! I would like to make some side comments here about it, although I´ve only ridden around 60 km,
    - now the Gps voice instructions play over radio (at least over DAB radio), so no more missing turns!
    - Favorite buttons: you can choose over quite a nice list of options, from heating menus, to main menus, or radio and media directly, including Gps.
    - as far as connection: new Bluetooth icon during searching.
Later edit: - during a phone call the screen stays in split screen with maps on the right side! no more interruptions!

It sounds like your phone is taking priority away from the BMW app, check those settings. But I've noticed that too, when using the phone for anything else while using the BMW app, it will often disconnect the Map Mode but will usually find it back but once this happens, then it is more apt to disconnect.
It's new tech and no other OEM has it as good as this. I mean there are other OEM's doing this same thing (Ducati, Triumph, Honda) but it's much worse, except for maybe the Honda AT but that is only for iPhone and not android. That has always been BMW's problem then want to be the first/leader in new tech but that often comes with a price/problems.

    • @NothingToProve

No, the App does not recommend alternative navigation routes in the event of traffic jams. But the app takes the current traffic situation into account when planning the route according to the navigation settings in the menu "More" then "navigation setting" then "consider traffic" at the bottom right of your BMW Motorrad Connected App, . Which does not help in real time but hey, it's a free app. I would pay to have BMW to offer this as an option but for now, they don't 😢

    • @NothingToProve

It really depends on the phone, my Samsung S20 FE, it actually lost a little charge but this year I upgraded to the S22, just the normal version and I will always end up with more at the end of a ride. For example if I start out with 50% battery life and at the end of a long ride, it will be at 80 to 90% charge. I just got back from Sardinia Italy, 10 days there riding every day. And most mornings I'd start with around 60-80% charged and I'd end the day with 98-100% charged, so as I'm getting off the bike and into the hotel most guys are saying I need to charge my phone, NOT me, I'm still taking pictures and videos of the ride with my phone that is fully charged Loved that fact!
So it depends on the phone and how it manages power...I guess???
      take care,
      Scott
P.S. My old S9 did about the same as the S22, so I only lost % on the S20FE of the 3 phones.

    • @NothingToProve

It's better but it's like the system has good days and bad days. Some days it never fails but just this last Thursday I went out for a 5 hour ride with Karl the 1290SAS guy and it disconnected 3 times and would not reconnect while riding, so had to pull over and shut off bike...etc. to get going again. It really frustrated me. But on Monday I did a 4 hour ride by myself and it never disconnected at all. So I'm at a loss for why it does this...sigh...frustrated...confused...wondering if it's an App on the phone that's interfering with the BMW app...or BMW just does not like riding next to KTM...LOL!

Well, if you have a friend that has a GS/RS/R/XR, you can steal the back side of the clutch/brake levers, the side facing you while riding, and swap them for theirs. But then they won't be able to mount their mirrors 🤣🤣🙄
Or you can just order them from Wunderlich: RT Hand guards mounting kit for SOS-system or if you don't have SOS...too...I do so I got the SOS one.
Then you just pop off the stock and put these on and you can mount mirrors or as I did, mounts for other things like gopro 👍👍

Na, it's a Schubert R2 helmet with the SC1 communication add in it, it's basically the Sena 10 communication system. You can also put it in the C4 and C4 Pro helmets, but the C5 is a different system, still Sena, I think, but shaped differenlty so I can't move the one I SC1 into the C5 but I can into the C4.

The legs aren't what they used to be. I've never taken the Mrs for a ride on my bikes which were a 1200 Bandit then GSX1250, now. Id like something she would be comfortable on.

This is the second review I've seen recently where a potentially nice European motorcycle disappeared behind complaints about the bike's smart phone integration failing.
    I work in Technology.
One of the reasons I started to ride was to have a refuge FROM technology.
Integrating any smart phone feature set with on-board bike systems all but guarantees that technology will no longer be fully functional after about five years or so. I like my bikes to last longer than that.
BMW really lost me when their motorcycle show presentation was entirely about how to pair your smart phone technology with their new software display. It's a dumb life cycle decision, it introduces tons of cost and complexity, and al I really want is two clocks and to ride my motorcycle.
I just want to know how the bike feels on a hard corner exit. That even in the saddle, we're still talking about the damn phone just makes me sad.

The cradle just fits a iPhone 13 pro max without a case, what if I use a larger phone or the fact that most phone gets bigger each year? It’s the dumbest design. Just give Apple car play and android auto for the split screen. The current bmw app that has to keep my screen on and running to use the maps in mirroring mode is archaic and annoying.

Just like to relay one concern on the rear axle: On both my latest bikes, 2015 RS and my 2021 RT, the oil in the rear axle quickly gets contaminated with metal particles during the running in periode. BMW tell you to change the 180ml of oil after 1000 and 21000 km, but I highly recommend every 1000 km untill clean then with every engine oil swap.
